Department Of Education - Our Work Here Is Done

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Jim Quinn via The Burning Platform blog,

It appears a few children were left behind.

The Department of Education was created in 1979 and now has an annual budget of $73 billion, with 5,000 government bureaucrats roaming its hallways. When you include all Federal, State and Local spending on public education it totals about $700 billion per year, or $13,000 per student. The Department of Education was created to improve the education of our children.

After 37 years and trillions of dollars “invested” in our children, see below what they have achieved. The public school teachers who have been on the front lines for the last 37 years work 9 months per year, earn above average salaries, get awesome benefits, and have gold plated pension plans – all at the expense of taxpayers. And look what they have accomplished.

The tens of millions of illiterate drones think they deserve $15 per hour because it’s fair, even though they can’t count to fifteen or spell fifteen.

  • According to the 2007 California Academic Performance Index, research show that 57% of students failed the California Standards Test in English.
  • There are six million students in the California school system and 25% of those students are unable to perform basic reading skills
  • There is a correlation between illiteracy and income at least in individual economic terms, in that literacy has payoffs and is a worthwhile investment. As the literacy rate doubles, so doubles the per capita income.

The Nation

  • In a study of literacy among 20 ‘high income’ countries; US ranked 12th
  • Illiteracy has become such a serious problem in our country that 44 million adults are now unable to read a simple story to their children
  • 50% of adults cannot read a book written at an eighth grade level
  • 45 million are functionally illiterate and read below a 5th grade level
  • 44% of the American adults do not read a book in a year
  • 6 out of 10 households do not buy a single book in a year

The Economy

  • 3 out of 4 people on welfare can’t read
  • 20% of Americans read below the level needed to earn a living wage
  • 50% of the unemployed between the ages of 16 and 21 cannot read well enough to be considered functionally literate
  • Between 46 and 51% of American adults have an income well below the poverty level because of their inability to read
  • Illiteracy costs American taxpayers an estimated $20 billion each year
  • School dropouts cost our nation $240 billion in social service expenditures and lost tax revenues

Impact on Society:

  • 3 out of 5 people in American prisons can’t read
  • To determine how many prison beds will be needed in future years, some states actually base part of their projection on how well current elementary students are performing on reading tests
  • 85% of juvenile offenders have problems reading
  • Approximately 50% of Americans read so poorly that they are unable to perform simple tasks such as reading prescription drug labels

Shut the federal Dept of Education down.  There are already state and local departments of education in EVERY gubmint school district.  There is no need for a federal department other than to have the federal government in control of local education.  And boy, do they make sure that kids are not very well educated.

Similar issue with the Department of Energy.  Their sole charter when Jimmy Carter created it was to get the U.S. off of foreign oil dependence.  Complete failure yet they are still in existence and well funded.  Shut it down.

"Reality is not in the world, it's in the measurements made by professionals." -- John Ralston Saul

So, a bunch of professionals went out and did a bunch of measurements.  What did they come up with?  Failure?  But failure is great for either undermining the existing system and promoting replacement system (in this case, more private education because the public system can't) or to bloat existing budgets (our futures are our children and we are failing so we need more money and resources).  Or, to bash teachers and unions, in general, which of course serves those that wish to shape public education for their own self-interest like the promotion of managerial sciences (STEM, math and science) above all else.

I'd like to know who's funding these "studies."  Far too often in our modern world, "professionals" are hired by those with money in order to push one agenda or another.

We all know that BLS and other governments routinely fake unemployment and GDP numbers.  Did you actually think that faking these kinds of statistics is a bridge too far for them?

Part of me makes me think that no matter what the statitics are, they've massaged to come out with whatever predetermined outcome those that paid for it want to see.  So, they designed a test beforehand to ensure that students fail so they can trot out the doom statistics to freak people out and make them accept whatever hairbrained prescription the best of the lobbyist class can come up with.

I wonder if they want us all to think people are stupider than they are.  If the average joe was as stupid as the MSM and the professional class keep telling us, then why the groundswells for people like Trump and Sanders?  The rise of both seems to be proof that people aren't as stupid as the elites constantly like to tell us.

Yes I remember it well.  Our teacher stopped teaching grammar the day our schools were integrated. It was a slow creep from there to by the 8th grade we were no longer expected to read and the teacher read the books for us.

All the while drugs and violence were everywhere.  A whole lot of kissing the minorities’ ass and not a lot of education.   I lost five years of school down the affirmative action shit hole.

Then you get the shit every time you steep foot onto a government office.  I guess it finally caught up to the UMC.  Dumb MF’s waking up after 50 years of hibernation.  Rolmao watching this shit.

OAN, well white america systematically destroyed any hint of progress shown by the black america to raise it's economic, educational, and cultural well being (read: Greenville, OK, the Black Wall St., and of course there was '20's and beyond... Harlem; infiltration of community groups for nefarious mean - Bloods, Crips, and lastly MLK hit, heroin into Harlem coke into CA, on and on...)

You created the mess, now live with it.  Good luck and God Bless.

Still blaming whites for your inability to compete - it's actually funny. The sooner you accept your inability to compete with whites is genetic (you have an average IQ of 80) the sooner you'll be happy as your expectations in life will be more realistic with your capabilities.

the good teacher (good as in the opinion they have of themselves) is conflicted and many are out right nuts..

education is not the goal..indoctrination producing the walking insomniacs we see all around us..happy asleep sheep is the product..(although some sheep get anxiety from all the contradictions of PC idiology)

the stress of teachers is :some are aware of the role they play and it conflicts with their own self image..the conflict of reality with state fantasy.

like telling normal healthy teens males  they should have sex with each other, the obvious facts of biology ignored.- of course the teachers of such concepts are stressed.

We homeschool.  It's really the only way to truly educate your children these days.  It's like anything else in life... if your choices are rotten - opt out.  Rotten television - turn it off.  Rotten music - tune it out.  Roten "art" - ignore it.  If more people did this, the demons who peddle the filth would die on the vine.  It astonishes me how debased peoples' tastes have become.

Is their inability to compete genetic or just society pandering to da poor oppressed bruddas? I hear in some other countries that blacks are like normal people instead of mostly violent, ignorant animals.

My kid goes to an 'International School'.  He's in the 8th grade, and I just talked to him about your reading experience in class. He just told me that the last book he read on his own was in Elementary school. He reads at home all the time, but turns out the whole class is 'reading' "The Secret Life of Bees" together, which amounts to the teacher reading to the class. He says there a number of kids in there who can't read. WTF, they don't even take turns reading the story together. Glad I took the time to pick out a decent High School for him next year. This is Unbelievable.

Another bullshit article that ignores the demographics.

White kids are doing fine.  The niggers and spics pull down the averages, making it look like school is a failure.  See, bad schools.  Gimme more money.  NO AMOUNT OF MONEY can educate kids with a 70 IQ.  They are not the same no matter what social justice warriors say.

If you want your kids to have a decent education and life, get the fuck away from large cities and suburbs.  These places are a sewer of nigger culture, crazy liberals and over crowding.

The Jamul, California High Schools are filled with the children of the advantaged and wealthy.

They are typically white...and Asian. There are few Hispanics and even fewer Black students...if any at all.

The test scores are in the BASEMENT....sub standard. Their scores are comprable to the scores of innercity schools.

Being indulged by their teachers and being spoiled by their wealthy parents, combined with a plethora of entertainment distractions. these children are failing to learn the required material.

It was the best choice to pull my nephew out and send him to Cuyamaca Community College.

Maybe California schools should instead have a California Standards Test in Spanish

He wants to attend Stanford University, the bastion of the left coast indoctrination?

Last week, a leftist activist group at Stanford University called “Who’s Teaching Us?” (aka WTU) made demands that Stanford hire only non-white faculty, expel anyone on Stanford's faculty who engage in micro-aggressions, and that Stanford be required to hire WTU-approved women of color as its next president and next provost.

Can you think of a better way of identifying the lower literate or illiterate?

Dicey's picture
Dicey (not verified) Four chan Apr 10, 2016 6:46 AM

Agreed. They totally dumbed down the education system in the UK to aid non-whites because it was so evident non-whites could not compete. They followed this with massive grade inflation. They also removed qualifications from many jobs, as an example one needed 5 O'Levels and 2 A'Levels to be a Police Officer a couple of decades ago but they removed that barrier specifically to attract 'ethnic minority' candidates - they admitted that was the reason back then, of course they'd never admit it today. Enforced multiculturalism has destroyed Europe as these people are not our equal, for if they were they wouldn't be flooding Europe in the first place.

Lowest common denominator wins - white kids getting dumber, affirmative action for IQ 70 blacks.  Worst part - the hopeless blacks pick the presidential candidate for the Democrats and the Republicans rather let NeoCon Hildabeast win than stand up for their own electorate.  Niggers and Neocons playing togehter, working white middle class getting fucked in the cornhole.  Great

When I graduated from High School about five or six awards were handed out to the strongly achieving students.  When I went to my Son's High School graduation a few years ago there were two award ceremonies totalling about five hours of award giving.  80% of the awards were given on the basis of race or cultural upbringing. Inflation?

Public education is a progressive construct. The progressives crammed down everyone’s throat the idea that every child is a tabula rasa.  The simple and fallacious assertion was that with the proper tutoring every child could be a Mozart or a da Vinci.  We have spent billions trying to pour a quart into a pint. We spent more billions on perusing schemes fostered by one crack pot after another who were in the business to promote their books and sell their ideas to desperate administrations.  Every time a student failed, the tabula rasa mime emerged and the responsible administration was hammered with the mantra that the reason the child had failed to learn was because that administration had failed to force its teachers to teach.  Not once in the entire production process was the raw material looked at. Billions were spent on committees and workshops that were ostensibly designed to remedy the situation.  Millions of hours of classroom time were lost. Every three or four years a new scheme was launched.  A new set of workshops had to be conducted and new materials bought.   When all of that failed we spent more billions developing creative testing to hide the results.

Then, there is a good bit of truth to the assertion that integration compounded this problem.  When a black student failed and he failed in larger percentages than white students based on the size of his demographic then the answer was obvious, the system was racist.  Black students were failing because of the legacy of slavery and white privilege.   That charge put white administrators in a panic and caused many more billions to be spent to remedy what was deemed a cultural problem.

Then there was the assertion that all the little cupcakes were college bound.  Every  one of them was going to become a professional so there was no need for the mundane courses teaching welding, small engine repair or home economics.  We failed half the demographic by not teaching them any marketable life skills.  We left those programs to the community colleges were students had to pay for courses they once were taught for free in high school.

Then we imposed the entitlement system where girls could get their own section eight housing, Medicaid, EBT and WICK simply by spreading their legs.  Why should a kid push himself when his grandma and hoe were going to take care of him?  School was for social contact.  Education was for geeks and Oreos.

Then we were hit with hip hop culture where all the guys were going to be pimps and gangsters and all the girls were going to be hoes.  The end result was that a couple of generations lived out a movie with many of them getting shot or killed and many more winding up in prison.

Finally we built a huge bureaucratic behemoth with layers and layers of six figure fiefdoms that never ever walk into a classroom.   To justify their positions these faceless bureaucrats compound the process with endless reams of paper work.  When computers came on line the problem was compounded by hours and hours of electronic forms that had to be completed demonstrating that the teacher was complying with ever increasing standards.   Teachers spent more and more time on compliance and less and less time teaching.

Following the tabula rasa mime to its final conclusion, teachers will be replaced by minimum wage aids and instruction will be left to interactive programs.  We will spend more billions on interactive work stations.  After all the magic of technology has played out, at the end of the day, we will once again discover that slightly less than half the demographic has failed to become greater than below average.  Then the process will begin all over again.  Nothing in education will change because the entire premise is wrong.  Having said all of this, if you can read it is because some teacher taught you to read.
