Why The Media Lies So Much

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Fred Elliott via Salina.com,

I recently read an article on rt.com written by Cynthia McKinney, the first black woman elected to the Georgia Legislature. The title of the article was “Why Does The U.S Media Lie So Much?” I’ll continue after a brief aside to talk about rt.com (which stands for Russia today).

Rt.com is a news outlet sponsored by the Russian government, much like British Broadcasting Corporation of Britain, CBC of Canada and ABC of Australia. A few months ago, I was in a discussion group and I mentioned rt.com, which I visit daily, and a young man (30-ish) interrupted me to inform me that rt.com was nothing but Russian propaganda.

I immediately thought of the quote attributed to everyone from Shakespeare to Mark Twain to Winston Churchill, “Never do battle of wits with an unarmed man.” Contributors to rt include economists Paul Craig Roberts, Richard Wolff, Michael Hudson, Noam Chomsky, Lee Camp, Gerald Celente, Max Keiser, Larry King, Thom Hartmann and other Americans. Also George Galloway, former member of parliament in Britain. Why would any of these people want to be part of Russian propaganda?

Anyway, back to McKinney’s article. Why does the U.S media lie so much? The simple answer is — and the courts have ruled — that they can and it’s legal. They claim that it is part of free speech and that the responsibility is on the public to be informed as to whether the information is true or not. Thomas Jefferson said basically the same thing.

Therein lies the problem.

The American public has been lulled into watching the evening news and thinking they are being informed. They aren’t. They’re being manipulated. If you question the reports you are given the handy label conspiracy theorist and dismissed. A study showed that Fox News told the truth 17 percent of the time. Critics have even divided the remaining 83 percent into partially true, mostly false and ‘pants on fire’.

Not only does the media lie, so does the government.

I have friends who are always posting pro-Democratic and Obama memes on Facebook. They don’t seem to realize that Democrats initiated our involvement in the three worst wars of the 20th century.

Bill Clinton did away with the Glass-Steagall Act that, since the 1930s, kept the banks from gambling with depositors’ money. Hence, the crash of ‘08 and the robbery that continues. Clinton also pushed for and succeeded in passing NAFTA, the most disastrous “Free Trade Agreement” ever (only to be outdone by TPP, which is NAFTA on steroids, which Obama is pushing).

The news nightly blabbers about the “recovery.” There is no recovery, folks. We are falling further and further behind every day. The economic reports are laughable. Retail sales were up in January; unemployment has decreased under Obama.

Yeah, right, retail sales are so good that Wal-Mart is closing 269 stores, and unemployment is down? Oh really, what kind of jobs? Any $22-an-hour jobs with benefits? No! Mostly part-time, low-skill jobs at minimum wage with no benefits, no security. This is not a stable or sustainable economy.

The most laughable meme is that oil prices under Obama are drastically lower than under Bush. The president has no control over oil prices. If the president had that power, don’t you think that Jimmy Carter would have lowered the price back in the early ‘70s, when gas prices caused gas lines like soup lines in the ‘30s? Who falls for this nonsense? The current low price is because the Saudis lowered their price to hurt Iran, Russia and Venezuela, but mostly Iran. Three nations the U.S. hates because they won’t grovel and go along with our desire for complete world domination, as wouldn’t Iraq, Libya or Syria.

I hate to say this, but America has become the playground bully. If you don’t go along with our idea of world order or can’t be bribed or coerced into joining our — what Gerald Celente calls — coalition of the killing, you will have economic sanctions imposed on you, and if that doesn’t work, we will simply destroy you.

Today, America is an empire and the power elite love it. Any remotely close examination of empires shows two major things:

One: They all die, usually from internal collapse.

Two: The average person was destitute.

A view of the Russian Empire in 1913, and the following few years, graphically shows what empire collapse can look like.

At the end of World War II, it was obvious that the British Empire was collapsing. They had the choice: Do away with democracy or the empire. I think they made the smart decision. Will we?

Now that you’re all cheered up, I’ll let you think about that for a bit.

Puh-leeeeeze. I am so weary of hearing "America" is a bully. What is America if not its people? The American people, lulled as they are, have little to do with this. The Barons of Basel essentially own the entire global central banking system which, in turn, owns/controls all the governments and government propaganda [not to mention financial markets/international trade]. The Barons use the U.S. military as a private international police force to impose their will on their next economic target. Clearly the thugs in DC do not "represent" the interests of the American people; they belong to the Barons. They barely acknowledge the Sheeple exist. Talk to the Hand; it lives in Switzerland.

excellent point adanta, as is the point of this article - we should remind ourselves everyday that corporate "news" is manipulative perception management and experimentation on ourselves ... they can and do lie to us intentionally everyday and they are mostly script reading from Boston to Miami to Houston to Minneapolis to Seattle to San Diego and all points in between.

and indeed the marching orders must come from the international financiers, the Bankster class in Switzerland.

Its just like when I fart in the car and my wife asks "did you fart"? Of course I am going to lie and tell her no.  She believes it, and I can then let another one out!

"Why The Media Lies So Much"

Easy... because lying is part of the media owners' religious creed.

"You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."  John 8:44

The British Empire didn't quite give up it's empire (in that it may have descended from the thrown by they still remain hugely influencial on a 'world power' level), they survived by hitching their wagon right onto the next empire in the line up, the good ole' USA.

As for the media, Conan has some really funny clips on it:

Twee Surgeon's picture

The British Empire was forced to dissolve its "Colonies" as part of a contract called the Marshall plan, following world war II, you might have heard of it, it is the one where Grandpa Bush was arrested and IBM was making counting machines for the Nazi's and miniature Japanese submarines had Ford engines and Pearl Harbor was completely unexpected, the one where 50,000 British men in there prime were ordered to surrender to the Jap's in Singapore and got to build a nice bridge over the river Kwai while whistling happy songs. the one where they had to check out the new Nuclear weapons on the dirty Jap's and millions would have died if they did not blow them up.

It was quite different from WW 1 that started, coincidentally, about a year after the formation of the Federal Reserve Bank/ Federal Reserve act, those wars are quite different. In World War 1 for example, they wiped out the cream of Europe at the rate of about 25,000 on the first day (After Sunrise but before lunch. )of the battle of the Somme lasted a year or more, so you do the fake math while some A-hole runs your sons into guns. The French, Germans and many others lost about 3 million at the battle of YYpres, the Scots and Belgique made a fine showing too, all financed courtecy of Wall Street U.S.A.

Check yer real history books if confirmation is required.

if you could, please elaborate a bit more about the Singapore surrender you mention above there ...that's not commonly discussed much

The British surrendered, expecting the Japanese to honor the "Geneva Conventions," of course, Japan NEVER signed onto the Geneva Conventions (oops!)

British Officers, "Mostly" Australian troops. (A few British, but mostly Australian).  England was on the ropes in late 1941/early 1942.  Primary focus was on North Africa where Rommel was parked deep in Egypt.  Home defence in England and the U-boat war were next.  Asia was where they parked the 3rd tier units with the weapons left over from the Great War and "hoped" nothing happened until things in Europe had turned around.  Troops with poor training, poor Equipment, and no air support.  After 10+ years of war in China, and a couple of sharp "border conflicts" with the Russians, the Japanese made short work of both the British and American starting forces (Philippines).  They "blew it" with the death marches/concentration camps, once it became generally known that surrendering to the Japanese was effectively a death setence, few people surrendered.  The "replacement" armies that the British and Americans raised were MUCH better equipped, better trained, and better motivated.

Singapore in paticular was a shock, it was a massive fortress, facing the Sea.  The jungles of Malaysia were thought to be impassible, so the landward side of Singapore was not fortrified... (bad oversight).  The jungles of Burma did live up to their reputation, or the British probably would have lost India to boot...

Their real failure (Japans) was not making an early "killing blow" to demoralize the wast (taking Australia, India, or Hawaii), (They tried for both Australia and India, might have been better for them if they had tried and succeeded at just one of the two...).  Once the American war machine got cranked up, it was just a matter of "how much time and how many casualties", the outcome was determined.  Parts of the Japanese military (Navy and Air Force) had a pretty good ideal that they were racing a clock, the army not so much...).

Admiral Yamamoto - "I can run wild for six months … after that, I have no expectation of success".[

"Not only does the media lie, so does the government."

The media lies because they are a propaganda arm of the US government, which lies.

Answer:  For the same reason people want to be part of [FILL IN COUNTRY] propaganda:  money.

Shizzmoney's picture

The analysis of media is so bad as well.  Yes, the 30-ish man saying RT.com is a arm of Russian propaganda in the US is right....but that is just for their newsdesk coverage.  But so does CNBC.  And CNN.  And BBC.  Yet this guy the represenative from GA got talked down to can't seem to figure that out: that ALL newsdesk media is corrupt and biased and influenced by government.  It's the only place government can get it's greedy hands into influencing thought because when it comes to editorial, they can't influence that.  Think of how Santelli is pretty much the only dissenter of the Fed while the whole lot of CNBC believe they are gods of the market.

When it comes to editorial, RT is probably some of the most frank and honest personalties around.  Where else can you get critique from a marxist (Richard Wolff) and a conservative who worked for Reagan (Paul Craig Roberts) in the same place?

Not NBC or CBS, I'll tell you that.

according to the zero post last week, reporter is one of the worst jobs, right ... unless you're a cia hack like Anderson Cooper, who just so happens to be so surprised about his mothers lesbian blahblahblah  {for some reason they keep certain headlines on for days and days, this being one - probably still up if you go to sfgate.com & other lib sites}

CAPOTE, TRUMAN. 20th century American writer. In an interview, he assailed "the Zionist mafia" monopolizing publishing today, and protested a tendency to suppress things that do not meet with Jewish approval. (Playboy magazine, March 1968)

CHRISTEA, PATRIARCH. 20th century Romanian prelate. "The Jews have caused an epidemic of corruption and social unrest. They monopolize the press, which, with foreign help, flays all the spiritual treasures of the Romanians. To defend ourselves is a national and patriotic duty -- not anti-Semitism. Lack of measures to get rid of the plague would indicate that we are lazy cowards who let ourselves be carried alive to our graves. Why should we not get rid of these parasites who suck Romanian and Christian blood? It is logical and holy to react against them." (New York Herald Tribune, August 17, 1937)

Asking the American Media NOT to Lie, is like asking a rattlesnake Not to rattle.

The American Media is incurious, slothful, consensual, pedestrian, biased without acknowledgement, fearful of challenging power, and not particularly honest,”  according to Brit reporter Ambrose Evans Pritchard

I informed a family member that the Boston bombing was a psyop and was actually a controlled detonation of pyrotechnics.

I provided evidence from "legitimate" media sources citing the place and time the "bomb" would detonate, the same place and time as the "terrorist" attack.

I was subsequently told "that's just ONE piece of information!", "proves nothing!", and "you need to get your head examined."

People don't want to think they've spent their whole lives being duped, and would rather continue to believe lies than reassess reality.

SixIsNinE's picture

 - on that, it SHOULD be enough to simply go to youtube and replay the actual video of the smoke bomb going off ... it's quite obvious it was a smoke bomb, as the runners passing by looked to their left pretty nonchalantly and carried on .... one runner is seen tripping over his feet because he was rubbernecking looking at the little smoke coming out of the garbage bin .... certainly not enough of a disturbance to cause the runners to think to cancel their plans to finish the race.

How this most obvious evidence routinely gets overlooked is just like 9/11 - just look at the twin towers being demolished in a few seconds, after less than an hour from the suppossed cause of demolition, an airplane strike - any adult who thinks that a 110-story skyscraper could be dustified in 8.5 seconds is probably not thinking very logically.    TRAUMA-BASED MIND-KONTROL
