"We'll Respond Totally Asymmetrically" - Russia Answers NATO With Three New Deployments

Tyler Durden's picture

Russia has wasted no time in responding to NATO's decision to deploy 4,000 troops to Russia's border. Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced that Russia will be deploying two new divisions to the West, and one to the South (reportedly with 10,000 troops each) in order to counterbalance NATO's increased military presence.

"The Defense Ministry is taking a number of measures to respond to the NATO military buildup at the Russian border. Before the year's end two new divisions will be formed in the Western Military District and one in the Southern Military District." Shoigu said.

Aleksandr Grushko, Russia's envoy to NATO said in response to NATO's plan "we are not passive observers, we consistently take all the military measures we consider necessary in order to counterbalance this reinforced presence that is not justified by anything. Certainly we'll respond totally asymmetrically."

Regarding NATO's confrontational approach, Grushko said "cooperation will be possible only when NATO countries start realizing that the policy of confrontation contradicts their own national interests."

Grushko also warned the U.S. about flying reconnaissance missions over Russia, something they followed through on twice over the past month, as the U.S. continues to push the limits.

"It seems to me that these [reports on potential resumption of flights by US reconnaissance planes] are nothing more than another propaganda volley, but made with an intent. Reconnaissance aircraft will not fly over Russia."

And finally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sums up what Russia is thinking, which is that NATO is approaching Russia, not the other way around.

"NATO military infrastructure is inching closer and closer to Russia’s borders. But when Russia takes action to ensure its security, we are told that Russia is engaging in dangerous maneuvers near NATO borders. In fact, NATO borders are getting closer to Russia, not the opposite."

Here is a map of Russia's regional military commands. Two divisions will be sent to the Western District, and one to the Southern District.

Incidentally, as joint U.S. military drills began today in Moldova, which is virtually bordering Russia, lawmakers from the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova and other protestors rallied to try and block U.S. military vehicles from crossing the border into Moldova..

Igor Dodon, the leader of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova called the drills a military occupation.

"Carrying out a march of NATO vehicles in Moldova can only be described as the military occupation of the country. It is a rough slap to the Constitution of the Republic and to the Parliament that adopted the declaration on permanent sovereignty and neutrality of Moldova"

* * *

With tensions already rising between the U.S. and Russia already, one incident in this newest development in the clash of militaries could very well lead to war. Furthermore, in the event of the U.S. electing a President Trump, with his shoot first, ask questions later attitude; or a President Clinton, with her neocon hawk backers pushing and prodding the world to the brink, may take the world there anyway.

As soon as the idiots in the west fires the first round, they will run back home and let the Eastern European nations get stomped by Russia.  Logistically, US cannot support the troops in the east, and they are within range of Russia's large and heavy arsenal of short range missiles (Iskanders, Tochka's, etc), air defense systems and air to surface missiles.  Having such two bit forces trying to surround Russia, isn't smart.  It took the Germans over 9 million men and even that didn't help them.

The US is postering, but it will amount to nothing, as these people may be stupid, but not that stupid.

The intent is clear - to put a land barrier between Russia and Germany. There is a modern day Maginot line running south west from the Baltics through Poland, Slovakia, Hungary to Slovenia. There are just token placements east of the line.

In part but the german army was poorly prepared to fight a winter war.

Manthong's picture

yeah, against the Soviets in a war of attrition on the eastern front in an unusually horrid winter,

but against the ‘mericans and Brits, near their home turf, they were pretty well prepared..

But their big, heavy Panzers and Tigers had a hard time against swarms of scooting M-2’s.

In case you might not be clued in.. swarms and constellations of mini-drones are the future of combat.

The "guts" of any autonomous weapon system (or better, decoy system) would be the command and control components; THE key component wil be the servomotor, and as you note China has a track record of producing these - initially "dubious" quality, nowadays "pretty good per buck spent".

http://www.banggood.com/search/rc-servo.html

These are RETAIL prices: Wonder how much per (better quality) servo their Military spend? Wonder how many their Industries can ship quickly (millions), and wonder just how many decoys that'll be sufficient for??

With just a VERY LITTLE more care in assembly / lubrication, these "cheap" servos last VERY WELL, and are VERY RELIABLE. Combine with the very good autonomous flight packages (such as the Co-Pilot system or similar), and there's a VAST availablility of Autonomous RC capability, that can easily, and QUICKLY be retasked for a military application.

Ace Ventura's picture

True enough, but one big reason for that was the sheer volume of light armor we threw at the germans on the western front. I believe the numbers of M4 Shermans alone was something like 36,000+ units. Lord knows how many M2, M3, and M5 units were along for the party as well. Some tank history guru on here can probably get better numbers, but I believe the germans had a total tank force of around 6,000-7,000 units? Can you imagine if they had used automobile plant infrastructure to build tanks instead of dedicated train manufacturing facilities? How would the allies have fared against similar numbers of Panther and Tiger tanks, instead of outnumbering them 5 or 6 to 1 ? Yikes!

Semi-illiterate Hitler, who never in his life commanded any military unit,  thought he could command an army:

  • Hitler has stopped/prevented Field marshal Heinz Guderian from destroying the entire British Expeditionary army (~300,000+) in France at Dunkirk opening England to an easy invasion. Hitler has sent two of his personal emissaries to the Guderian's headquarter to allow the evacuation of the British and French forces to England
  • In July 1941, Hitler canceled the blitzkrieg in the Soviet Union when the road to Moscow was wide opened.
  • In the summer of 1942, after the Soviet catastrophe near Kharkiv when Soviets lost more than 400,000 people, Hitler has changed the Wehrmacht summer 1942 campaign plans and went to Stalingrad, the city without any strategic value. Field marshal Wilhelm List protested and was removed from the 6th-Army command. General Friedrich Paulus without any field-command experience was appointed to lead the 6th-Army. Hitler refused to evacuate & save the 6th-Army after it was encircled by the Soviets.
  • In summer of 1943, Hitler started the Kursk campaign in spite of protests from leading Wehrmacht Field marshals Erich von Manstein,  Heinz Guderian, Walter Model, etc.,
  • The list is going on...

Hitler was a great speaker and a great domestic politician but he was a complete failure as a geopolitical and  military leader.

The present Russian conventional army is a third-world power supported by the utterly collapsed industrial economy.

Shemp 4 Victory's picture

I think you mean the present American conventional army is a second-rate bankster goon squad supported by the wholesale financial fraud and blackmail of a country with an utterly collapsed industrial economy.

Hitler was a great speaker and a great domestic politician but he was a complete failure as a geopolitical and  military leader.

Obama is a skilled speaker and, for most, a convincing liar but he is a complete failure as anything other than an obedient puppet.

And if you think the career-track yes-men generals that remain after the purges of Chimpy Bush and Lester Obama are strategic thinkers or "leaders", you need to have the ward nurse increase your medication.

Parrotile's picture

> The present Russian conventional army is a third-world power supported by the utterly collapsed industrial economy. <

Interesting to recall that this "Third-World" Conventional military has the World's best Air Defence system, and seems to spend it's tiny budget far more effectively than "other Militaries".

Interesting to note how this "Third-World" Conventional military achieved so much more (in such a short time) in Syria recently, in comparison with "other Militaries".

Interesting to note who provides the ONLY means of passenger transport to and from the ISS - the "utterly collapsed industrial economy".

Interesting, too, who sells the US rocket motors,

- and who is modernising ALL their military,

- and who does not "re-invent the wheel" when designing "new" equipment; rather, design is evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

Anyway, continue to underestimate your opponent (after all that's the "American Way") - the Russian military prefer that. It will assist in emphasising the "Shock and Awe" when the Bear finally decides the time is right to fight back.

Snípéir_Ag_Obair's picture

Meanwhile the us military is increasingly aware that theyve been sold out by a Deep State owned and occupied by war profiteers, bankers, and Zionist quislings who labor under the misconception there arent a good number of people who understand the truth.

not dead yet's picture

Goering sold Hitler on the idea that the Luftwaffe would destroy the Brits on the beaches of Normandy and Hitler bought it. Also in the back of Hitlers mind was the idea the Brits would eventually come to their senses and make peace with him so it's possible that he thought if Goering failed it was no big deal and would maybe convince the Brits to make peace. Recent historians claim if Hitler had kept going just a little longer in Battle of Britain the RAF would have been ruined but he suddenly just gave up. Fighters usually flew above the bombers to better see attackers and gain speed diving to intercept. Hitler demanded the fighters do close support and remain tied to the bombers greatly increasing the losses of both fighters and bombers. Around 1942 the ME 262 jet fighter was operational but Hitler demanded it be reengineered into a bomber and by the time it entered service as a fighter late in the war it was too little too late. Hitler, the greatest general the allies had, wanted to conquer Stalingrad because it was named after Stalin and thought it would hurt Russian morale. Blitzkreig was lightning warfare where you bypassed pockets of resistance, like Stalingrad, and surround them and starve them out which he refused to do in Stalingrad and Leningrad. Hitler also had his troops march to capture the oil fields of the Caucuses but they never made it due to the difficulties with Stalingrad and were recalled. Another gaffe by the allies best general. Hitler also delayed the war on Russia when his pal in charge of Hungary was tossed out so he invaded Hungary to put him back into power. Hitler also tried to conquer Leningrad where the seige lasted almost 3 years. If a competent general was running the show instead of Hitler Germany would have been in Moscow and beyond long before the winter and muddy seasons set in. Germany would have had control of the oil fields and refineries to keep his war machine running. Hitler was the allies best general because his incompetence made it possible for the allies to win the war. In the end Germany may have lost but it would have taken much longer with the possibility of A bombs dropped on Germany too.

And Russia has demonstrated they will NOT fight to the last Ukranian, Iraqi, Libyan, Serbian, Yemen, etc..

Russia calling a cease fire before Aleppo was retaken is the same game they played with the EUke's.  Calling ceasefires when the local countries ground forces finally had gained the advantage.  Putin refuses to allow them to win.

NATO is also moving it's missile defense system close to Russia and it's anti air missile systems.  As NATO moves into countries the political takeover also occurs ans suddenly the country is a NATO puppet.  This creats hostile countries on Russia's borders.  Shipment of goods then can be attacked either openly or covertly, including any oil transported through the country.

Russia response to having hostile missile systems and troops moved next to it's borders is to move troops WITHIN Russia.  Why is Russia's big counter threat the shifting of troops within Russia's borders?  Putin is reacting not directing the chess game due to weakness.

And why is it sooo scary for Russia to warn against overflying Russia with military planes.  Seems Russia feels so weak that there is a fear that such an action might occur.  A stronger country would sit back and if a military plane flew over their land mass simply shoot it down.  Like Turkey did to Russia's military jet.

Miketheterrible's picture

And what would Russia do? Bomb Turkey for shooting the jet down? Respons is needed and it is being done.  You think Russia will simply make the first strike? No.  They will let the US and NATO do it.  Turkey is far for Russia to simply move towards, but already hardened their forces in Armenia and Syria to face Turkey.  As for the western sector of the Russian armed forces, they are well hardned in their positions.

If you think the Missile defense systems are a threat, just look at Saudi Arabia's performance with it in the recent conflict with Yemen.  You will quickly find out old Scuds and modified S-125 missiles to hit the surface has caused a lot of damage regardless of these defense systems.

More on the response as well dated earlier this year:

From a conversation with the Western Command CinC and his expected new equipment in 2016.

New technology - increased capacity

Substantially increase the combat potential of units and formations district allows them to re-new and upgraded models of weapons and military equipment. In 2016 it is planned to receive from defense companies over 1100 of their units, including for aircraft parts - multifunctional fighters Su-35S, combat, transport and special helicopters Mi-35, Mi-8, Mi-28; for the missile troops and artillery - multiple launch rocket systems "Tornado-G" and "Tornado-S", self-propelled howitzers "MSTA CM" and "Coalition-SV"; for anti-aircraft missile units - S-400.

According to Colonel-General Kartapolov in 2015 on the basis of implementation of the state defense order share of modern weapons has increased significantly, military and special equipment in the district troops. Overall, the increase was 20 percent, including the Army - 23 percent, 16 percent - in the Navy and 19 - in the VCS.

A Su-35S squadron to start forming.
More Mi-35's... there must be further orders.
The new Tornado-S brigade will be in the West... most likely the 79th in T'ver.
Expects Coalition-SV unit.

I identify you as a troll.

Paid or not, youre the sort of fella, if Putin walked across the Baltic Sea, who would spin it as 'Putin can't swim.'

Hey asshole - how many countries, troops, artillery pieces etc are arrayed against a Russia essentially standing alone?

You vapid twat - the very danger is the Anglo-Zionist Empire pushes until things go nuclear.

For all the experts that pop up on this site when Russia comes up, few have pointed out how blind us forces are without sat uplinks.

Here's a hint: That ain't a strength.

you strain so hard to fault Russia/Putin for things that arent their fault you're either a simple troll or too goddamned stupid to grasp that its well over a dozen countries against one - one that has more nukes and subs the us cant reliably track.

You'd have better cover if you spent some time criticizing the Zbig/Wolfie crowd. And changed up your verbiage.

XxoO

And apart from all the dick measuring, the war on Russia is not by people who care about Americans, Europeans, or are averse to Christian Europeans slaughtering each other by the millions.

You seem to think Russian forces can or should respond like a peer to the us+nato+islamist proxies all while riddled with a 5th column of oligarchs and surrounded.

Blankone's picture

Russia essentially stand alone because Russia/Putin has sat back and watched as all of Russia's "allies" were destroyed.  Doing nothing.  Well, worse than doing nothing if you notice how Russia/Putin give their consent to the wars against Russia's allies in the UN.

Turkey shot down Putin's jet.  Nothing.

US has put troops into Syria. Nothing

Turkey puts troops into Syria. Nothing

Everybody flies into Syria and bombs anthing they want. Nothing

Shemp 4 Victory's picture

Yeah, and you're the same boorish lout that was saying for months how Putin would never deliver S-300s to Iran.

Not bringing that up any more?

Of course, the feeble-minded can't think ahead any further than a few weeks at best. What you don't understand (and really, how could you?) is that the Russians have been acting in their long term interests.

Still, though, that's not your concern. For some reason, you have a strong desire or motivation to see Russia act impulsively, brashly, without thinking ahead, which plays to the interests of the criminal Vichy DC regime.

Your trolling is weak, transparent, and uninspired. Don't embarrass your employer by writing such nonsense.
