An Inconvenient Truth: How The Obama Administration Became Earth's Largest Arms Dealer

Tyler Durden's picture

With the Obama presidency in its final year, there is one central element of his foreign policy that has received little attention – the dramatic acceleration of lethal weapons exports by the U.S. military and defense contractors. As details,  the Obama administration has approved more lethal weapon sales to more foreign countries than any U.S. administration since World War II.  Many billions more than G.W. Bush's administration, in fact. And some of these sales will likely result in unintended consequences i.e. "blowback" – especially as more than 60 percent of them have gone to the Middle East and Persian Gulf.

(After all, U.S. weapons supplied to the mujaheddin in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets were then used to help launch Al-Qaeda. Arms supplied to Iraqi security forces and Syrian rebels have been captured by ISIS. And “allies” from Bahrain to Egypt to Saudi Arabia have used U.S.-supplied weapons to defeat homegrown democracy movements.)

On May 23rd, President Obama announced at a press conference in Hanoi that the U.S. would be lifting its decades-long embargo on sales of lethal weapons to Vietnam. Such a reversal in U.S. foreign policy raises questions: How does the U.S. arms export market actually work? Which companies in the military-industrial complex profit from these sales? Who really ends up with U.S. weapons? And most importantly, how many of those weapons could eventually be used against us?

Nobel Peace Prize winner, what a joke.  Constitutional lawyer....another joke.

America has always been a warmongering country and the largest exporter of weapons in the world. ALWAYS.

Kirk2NCC1701's picture

And it doesn't like competition. Especially from the Russians or Chinese. The feeling is mutual with those countries.

There's no business like Arms business. Preferably with alternating cycles of Destruction and Construction.

beemasters's picture

Could they have implanted chips to disable the weapons at a flick of a switch? I guess not, that would be bad for business and especially when their agenda is for everyone to kill each other....and some Americans to heighten fear and military expenditures.

Sensable gun control talk is funny. Can we first address what is being sold to non-american citizens?

"Can't have these damned terrorists on No Fly Lists buying guns! However, there is no such thing as an Islamic terrorist!, just...errr....ahhhh....ehhhh...jus jus jus, shut up and gimme your guns!"

Apparently, no such thing as due process in ObamaConstitutionWorld either.

Top Republicans join Obama in condemning Trump’s words

Americans love The Doanld.  The good news is these "Top Republicans" will be voted out of office since they no longer represent the will of the people; they only represent the MIC and Wall Street bankers. When they bash Trump, this handful of traitors bash the American people. They will be voted out!

Hillary was head of sales and marketing. The commissions were clearly good.

Frito's picture

But probably not good enough for the Hildabeast. She'd get double secret commissions [donations] on top of it all.

Obama has bombed hospitals and droned wedding parties; I would not be surprised if ZH sustains a drone attack by Soweto ... "by mistake" of course, similar to Bill Cklinton's destruction of the Chinese Embassy during his invasion of Yugoslavia when he claimed his pilots had outdated maps and bombed the wrong target.

A better example of our fascist system cannot be found.   It is also an excellent example of where libertarianism falls short.  Pure libertarians should be quite pleased with the idea that the US government does not interfere with weapons sales by private US companies to our enemies.  We certainly don't want our government interfering in such things, right libertarians?  We can't put a government gun purchased from the private companies to the heads of the private companies and tell them where they can sell arms.

booboo's picture

"After all, libertarians should be quite pleased with the idea that the US government does not interfere with weapons sales by private US companies to our enemies."

I think you missed the central point, the crux, the genesis of arm sales, that being Government to government.

LetThemEatRand's picture

You're missing the fact that the arms lobbyists want those sales, and are going through a middle man to get them.  Or are you suggesting (based on what?) that the arms manufacturers are only selling their product because they are forced to?

Beam Me Up Scotty's picture

Except for the fact that, these companies DONT GET TO SELL arms to other countries without the US governments approval.  Not to mention, most "libertarians" aren't going to want to sell arms to the very people who are going to turn and use those arms against them.   Why sell a gun to your most hated enemy??  So he can turn around and kill you??  Your "profits" don't get used very well when you are on a permanent dirt nap.

LetThemEatRand's picture

And yet these private corporations are supplying the product, and lobbying to do it.

shovelhead's picture

Yeah. That pretty much fits the job description. It's called Sales. General Won Hung Lo doesn't get shit without an export license

There's at least one country starting with 'I' that's missing from that map. One that gets a LOT of military supplies from the US.

No wonder they want to take the Second Amendment from Americans - they want to kill you all.

RopeADope's picture

Once the sale is made the target nation becomes dependent on the US for upgrades, maintenance and resupply or else they write-off the initial investment.

It is akin to World Bank/IMF interest expenses to third world countries to extract resources. External military upkeep costs are the tools used to extract from more developed countries.

Ask Finland about their JASSM´S for a personal experience in their dependency, and what they had to do to finally get congressional approval. Took them four years.

This is considering that Finland has a large fleet of F-18´s but still Congress took their time.

Automatic assult weapons to Syrian. Then the MSM spins a gay club massacre of a Muslim who worked for a contract of DHS. G4S.

Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders is barking about automatic weapons ban. An AR-15 is a semi. Not full military auto. Let's get back to the killer. He workered for the Government and was a closet gay. Did I mention, the FBI interviewed him three times? Based on Islamic radical terrorism?

I think he wasn't able to find a Muslim fudgepacking mate. He should of rang Barrack Hussein Obama. He could of released his sexual feelings at the US Presidential bathhouse franchises.

I haven't seen many tears from the relatives, either.

No disputing that our arms sales are immoral you are simply incorrect to say it has always been the case.

Atomizer's picture

Arm sales are not immortal. I grew up in the era of having automatic weapons. I can pick one up and shot as if riding a bicycle.

I still haven't purchased a weapon for my wife. Think this rhetoric will end during Obama's passing.

I know how to change out a lower receiver. Can also build a gun using 3D printing. Can manufacturer a silencer. As of yet. Don't need a gun, nor do we own one. I have a phone if need one. Not necessary at moment.

Obama is a piece of shit. We'll arrest him before a civil war will break out.

shovelhead's picture

Moral? Surely you jest.

This is the only successful jobs program Obama has been responsible for.

The Khazarians have a plan for that, and as is typical of the "destroyers," they profit from the scheme as well.

Protocols 7:3 "We must be in a position to respond to every act of opposition by war with the neighbors of that country which dares to oppose us: but if these neighbors should also venture to stand collectively together against us, then we must offer resistance by a universal war."

Protocols 9:4 "...By these acts all states are in torture; they exhort to tranquility, are ready to sacrifice everything for peace: but we will not give them peace until they openly acknowledge our international super-government, and with submissiveness."

Protocols 5:11 "...By all these means we shall so wear down the "Goyim" that they will be compelled to offer us international power of a nature that by its position will enable us without any violence gradually to absorb all the state forces of the world and to form a super-government. In place of the rulers of to-day we shall set up a bogey which will be called the Super-Government Administration. Its hands will reach out in all directions like nippers and its organization will be of such colossal dimensions that it cannot fail to subdue all the nations of the world."

The Protocols are a copy/plagiarized update of various documents and testaments that were around since about the first Rothschild. A nascent form of the Protocols is a transcribed speech given about 1865 by Rabbi Reichhorn. He did have something to say about perennial war:

Reichhorn Protocols 7 "We shall force the Christians [Goy] into wars by exploiting their pride and their stupidity. They will massacre each other, and clear the ground for us to put our people into."

Yeah, they keep getting kicked out of communities and nations because of the dislike of their good natures?!

So how does this work.

The Democrats want open borders. They want to bring in as many refugees and Islamic people as they possibly can. They want to bring in as many immigrants as they can legal or illegal from anywhere in the world with no restrictions in place as to figuring out who these people are.

The Democrats also want to restrict any Second Amendment right to own arms.

So basically they want Americans not to own any weapons at all but to leave the southern border wide open for smuggling arms across the border.

Any talk about closing the Border or restricting illegal immigration is deemed racist yet they will disarm every single American and just leave them open to attacks from the US Supplied guns which are smuggled back into the United States over the open border.

You cannot be for disarming Americans and an open border at the same time. That is completely idiotic, hypocritical and un-American.
