Texas County Enacts "Emergency Paper Ballots" After "Software Glitch" In Voting Machines

Tyler Durden's picture

Just yesterday we noted several social media complaints from Texas voters who alleged that when they voted a straight republican ticket that voting machines were switching their presidential selection to Clinton/Kaine.  While most undoubtedly dismissed these reports as conspiracy theories, new official reports from Chambers County, Texas suggest that there might be some truth to the voting machine "irregularities".  According to an NBC affiliate, polling stations in Chambers County had to enact emergency protocols yesterday and revert back to paper ballots
after a "glitch" was discovered in the county's voting
machines.

The issue was actually discovered on Monday morning when Chambers County Clerk Heather Hawthorne was casting her own ballot and the voter next to her noticed that one of her votes was not filled in when she reviewed her electronic ballot  Hawthorne told 12News on Tuesday.

An error in the voting machine programming by Election Systems & Software (ES&S) caused votes for one statewide court of appeals race not to be entered when a voter tried to vote straight ticket in either party according to a release from Chambers County.

ES&S is the vendor that Chambers County contracts with to program their voting machines.

The Texas Secretary of State's office informed Hawthorne to create emergency paper ballots to continue voting until the problem could be fixed according to the release.

Below is the official press release from the Chambers County Clerk:

Chambers COunty

Of course, these confirmed reports from Chambers County seem eerily similar to problems reported yesterday on social media from people who also experienced problems when voting a "straight republican ticket."

Texas

The following report also surfaced in Arlington, Texas from a person who voted a straight republican ticket only to find just before submitting her ballot that her presidential choice had been switched to Clinton/Kaine.  After reporting the error to polling officials, the voter was told that these errors "had been happening."

Texas

This Reddit user also noted multiple reports of voting errors across the state of Texas.

Texas

Of course, the real question is how many people submitted erroneous ballots before this "glitch" was caught and how many other "software glitches" exist in other counties around the country that will never be caught?

If the purpose of a voting machine is to accurately tabulate votes, how can it failing to do so be called a "glitch"?  It's failed it's primary purpose.  And, frankly, how hard is it to make a machine count how many times somebody checks one box vs. another box?  That's enemy action.

Another conspiracy theory turned to conspiracy fact.  Media apologies?  Crickets.

I wonder if this glitch happens when voting straight democrat as well?

ghostofelvis's picture

That's what I was going to ask.  Is this only happening to those not voting Clinton.

Something similar to this happened in Ohio in 2004.

BUT WHEN it happened to DEMS in 2008, and 2012..... meh, who cares?

I am starting to get the felling that THE POWERS THAT BE love all of this RIGGED shit because it is destroying America piece by piece, and taking us all into the THIRD WORLD.

WE are inching closer everyday and the RIGHT -WING SCORCHED EARTH, apocalypse loving, end of the worlders out there are ignorantly helping it all along.

Tight leash on HIllary and an equally tight leash on Trump.

No matter who wins, we all are going to lose.

GOD HELP US.

Well of course. Right now a huge part of the plan is to drive down first world living standards to third world levels, and do it slowly enough so as not to cause large-scale unrest. I think they're going to succeed. I can think of a number of effective actions we coud take, but all of them require a MUCH larger number of people on board when we're ever going to get. End of the day I think we're fucked. The future will look like a horrific combination of 1984 and Brave New World... on steroids.

Lots of FBI immunity will have to be given out after this Election. Trump 2016

Motasaurus's picture

I'm telling you. It's 1864 all over again. TPTB want Tim Kaine to be Pres because he can be relied on to do what they want done. But, there's no way in hell anyone would believe that he would win an election. So, they have to run a terminally ill (but believable) candidate who they will "kill" (read: fake their assassination) before they actually take office, but after they rig the election.

The fix is in. The Dems will win. There will be massive discrepencies between exit polls and the official count. Those places where the discrepencies are just too large will void their votes, but it will all be forgotten when the "president" is "assassinated" by "the enemy" and the nation goes all in on the war.

The very easy fix for this is to make the source code open, and let the world design the software. You will have a much more secure system that way. Good luck trying to hide a security flaw when 1000's of programmers get to view the code. Or just use paper ballots and watch them like hawks.

Davy Crockett's picture

The very easy fix for this is to make the source code open

Open source code doesn't allow you to see that they always put Hillary on the left side of screen, and then purposely miscalibrate the touchscreen so that voter touches are all offset to the left by 200 pixels, skewing the results to Hillary.

Such things wouldn't be caught by looking at the source code.

Fuck computer voting.  I make my living with them and love them, but they have no place in a national election.  Brexit would NEVER have passed if they had not insisted on paper ballots.

RockySpears's picture

I'm pretty sure all our ballots are paperlesss.

Just hope they always will be.

And we should stop with the "anyone can have a postal ballot" thing.  Only those needing postal, should get postal,

tricorn teacup's picture

A key detail is the code and configuration being open for public inspection, even if it's developed in a closed office.  With closed source and without a paper ticket it's easy to show one ballot and record another.  Or edit the record after the fact without a trace.  Which makes a voter verifiable record, not just a temporary screen display, essential.

Touch screen calibration could be mitigated, and made blatantly obvious, if the software showed where it thought you touched.

And how many voters didn't notice that their vote was changed?

Paper ballots a must

Yes, voters unknowingly voting for Clinton.  I wonder how many vote she has illegally gotten so far with weeks to go before the election.

Maybe there is a count being relayed to her that will be hacked. I sure hope so.

socalbeach's picture

Total votes can't exceed number of names crossed off the voter list at each precinct.  Something like this might work.

If (Random (0.0, 1.0) < 0.15 AND (Pres.vote = "Trump" OR Pres.vote = "Johnson")) then Pres.vote = "Crooked Hillary"

The "Random" part was meant to indicate that at most 15% of the non-Clinton votes would be switched.

Will Amnesty demand that the Islamic State come clean about the civilian toll of its mere existance, much less its intention to conquer the entire planet for the glory of Allah?

I didn't think so.

Until and unless it manages to be truly impartial, Amnesty can go fuck itself.

Nothing new under the sun folks.  This same ES&S and Diebold have been "counting" the vote for years. Ever wonder what their common thread is?

http://www.rense.com/general52/bros.htm

Yup, all in the family

Couple that with Soros' "association" with Smartmatic in 16 states, this should be a slam dunk.

pods's picture

If this was a calibration issue it should show up on most ballots. I assume people touch the box they want and it selects it.

To be a calibration issue it would have to show up pretty often as people touch about the same spots to select a candidate.

To me, if this is showing up rarely but is real, then it could be something inside the code.  Like every hundred times this box is touched, the next time it is touched you register it as something else.

Way scarier and easier to game. Down by 1 percent in the real polls?  Have it 1 out of 100. Down by 2%?  1 of every 50, and so on and so forth.

But why is it that every other touchscreen in existence seems to just work and select what you press, yet voting machines cannot perform this simple task?

pods

froze25's picture

This is an different issue, the touch screen isn't what they are talking about. This is people that are just voting the Republican line, they just make one selection but instead of automatically selecting Trump, its selecting all Republicans and Hillary/Kaine. This is purposeful. My guess is it is set to do it about 6% of the time to people that select Republican only, giving Hillary a 3 point advantage.

should be the death penalty for vote rigging---

Vote rigging is on par with treason so yes I can agree to the death penalty for the worst (organised and/or insider) cases.

t0mmyBerg's picture

All I have to say is are you fucking kidding me?  How fucking hard is it?  Either the code for any machine ought to be public domain so it can be publicly reviewed, or there needs to be a commission that reviews the procedures of ALL machines to verify they do what they are supposed to do, simply register the fucking votes.  Unreviewed code and machines cannot possibly be allowed.  Another thing that didnt exist in the founders day and so wasnt addressed and so is used to sway the vote by unscrupulous asshats

Davy Crockett's picture

I have no confidence that they can't obfuscate their rigging in ways that will not be detected by a code review.  The touchscreen "miscalibration", for example, would never have been caught by such a code review.

Constitutional Amendment to demand paper ballots in all national elections is needed, to disallow the local political machines from attempting to use them again.

The difference back then wsa a vote for Kerry was turned into a vote for Bush. Thank you Ken Blackwell for stealing the 2004 election right after Katherine Harris stole the 2000 election for Bush, where the opposite thing happened (Vote for Gore became a vote for Bush)

Republican's thought that was hunky dory. Remember the "Brooks Brothers riot"....

For all the bluster, do you really think it is going to make a difference?

Clinton is going to have 400 electoral votes even without Texas.

SwiffFiffteh's picture

Hahaha lol that is bullshit. They did so many recounts trying to turn votes for Bush into votes for Kerry, or to be able to magically "find" whole boxes full of voter cards marked for Kerry that were somehow missed in all the previous recounts. Dems own voter fraud, don't kid yourself. Opposing voter ID makes it obvious.

YOU DONT NEED SOFTWARE TO ADD.

"software glitch"

It appears everyone is voting for Trump (even though we technically aren't suppose to admit we know that).  Regardless, that can't be right...throw away all the electronic votes and let's replace their votes with paper tickets.

...fixed

mkkby's picture

Stop worrying, you deplorable irredeemables.  It's just a SEASONAL ADJUSTMENT. It is more accurate.

Because minorities don't understand how to vote and get lost crossing the river, you need to add 6% to Hillary.  Just to be fair.

Banker Buster's picture

That's right Erkme, we need investigations that actually find and jail the perp.  Someone intentionally changing the code on a voting machine is committing mass voter fraud (voter fraud of mass destruction) and should be charged like someone who just attacked America with a nuke.

So voting regulators, in texas it is secretary of state (who happens to be born in Mexico), need to regularly randomly take out voting machines during elections and check the code.  If anything is wrong with the simple code, investigate and charge the maker of machines with treason and cancel makers contract to supply voting machines.  That will put a stop to these rat techniques the Democrats are using.

froze25's picture

The code is compiled, you wouldn't know what you are looking at. You would need to see the source code and have it compiled and loaded in-front of you.

Banker Buster's picture

ok.  There are however programmers who would know how to test it.  Maybe run an isolated set of tests on it to see how the votes are coming out of that machine.  any discrepancies, pull out the noose and find the person who owns the voting machine company.  lol

I know what should be done...  All machines are sent out with no code on them, but the code is given to the election administrator.  Then the administrator of elections for that area meets with a programmer from each presidential campaign.  They then inspect the code and everyone watches as that code is then disseminated throughout the machines.  They run some tests, then the machines go live.  They can perform the above mentioned random tests during election time to make sure the code hasn't been tampered with.  OR we can have some sort of double counting system with like a public ledger, like bitcoin uses.  Either way there needs to be something done about these machines.
