5 Arrested After Egyptian Police Bust Staged Photo Shoot Of "Wounded Aleppo Children"

Tyler Durden's picture

Readers who have been following the crisis in Aleppo have seen media reports of videos and photos allegedly originating from innocent children victims, pleading against the advance of the Assad forces. And while there have been various accusations that these clips, like the infamous "chemical attack" YouTube clip from 2013, were staged, such reports were promptly slammed by the mainstream media as "fake news" and roundly ignored. However, if one ever needed a reason to be skeptical of claims, photographs, and/or videos coming out of the region, and the MSM's appeals to readers emotions based on fabricated facts, Egyptian authorities have just provided it.

Egyptian police arrested five people in Port Said, Egypt for making staged "wounded children" photos, which they were planning to use to misrepresent on social media as photos of destruction and injured people in Syria's Aleppo, the Egyptian Interior Ministry said on Monday. The group also made fake videos that purport to show the wreckage of air strikes in Aleppo.

The shooting team, which included the photographer's assistants and parents of the children, was detained in the Egypt's province of Port Said," the Ministry said on Facebook.

According to the Ministry, the police witnessed the shooting process, which was taking place near the vestiges of a building destroyed as illegal under the decision of the local authorities. A girl standing in a white dress covered in "blood" that later proved to be paint, drew attention of a police officer driving by. The girl held a teddy bear covered in the same "blood" and had her arm "bandaged".

The Facebook statement said the videographer, his assistants, and the parents of two children who appear in the footage were detained after a trail led police to them at a building site awaiting demolition. The five have reportedly admitted they were planning to distribute their footage on social media, which was supposed to show an eight-year-old girl in a white dress and bandages, covered in red stains while holding a teddy bear.

“A 12-year-old boy is also interviewed about what life is like under intensive Russian-backed Syrian government air strikes,” reported
The Independent

The photographer also admitted that he was going to publish these photos on social media as pictures of Aleppo.

To be sure, this one instance does not mean all footage coming out of the region is fake. It also does not mean every claim made by Russian, Syrian, and Iranian officials about the conflict is true in comparison. Still, the fact remains that journalists aren’t going to rebel-held areas for fear of execution. Instead, they rely on the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is run by one anti-Assad dissident in Coventry, England. So-called Syrian activists and the shady group known as the White Helmets make up the rest of the reports in Syria, even though they both have also been largely criticized and discredited.

Also troubling is the willingness of the conventional media to accept most of these reports at face value without ever questioning their authenticity.

The fact the mass media disproportionately focuses on Aleppo while turning a blind eye to the horrendous crimes being committed in Yemen courtesy of the United States, the United Kingdom, and an inexperienced Saudi-led coalition indicates the media’s concerns for human rights in Syria are disingenuous, as the AntiMedia correctly notes.

knukles's picture

Might be the first busted but this shit's (staged news, aka propaganda) been going on one helluva long time.
Just ask yourself this.
Who is doing the staging and what is the motivation?
And how is it so many openly participate yet claim it to be true?
Why does it seem that individual participation in such is so nonchalant?
Do you realize the depths of the rot of human character at all levels perpetrating the rubbish?
How are even major world players to know the "truth".
They can't.
Eventually everybody winds up believing their own propaganda and bon soir, yo.
It's frankly astounding, the breadth and depth of the mysticism.

I guess it all boils down to perception, doesn't it>

.....it is ok to lie about such things if you know you are right, since it simplifies the story for the masses.

What if this is actually a "fake" story about "fake stories" being manufactured in Egypt?  Next on deck, a fake story about the fake story about the making of fake stories in order to discredit the story about the making of fake stories.  The rabbit hole gets deeper!

Yes. There was too little to no blood in Foley's video but there's just too much on this little girl and her fluffy toy. Over-dramatization. I guess they'll get it just right the next time. Fake news sells well.

Fake footage aside, the bigger travesty commited by our state-run media IMHO where it focuses and what it ignores.  As the article points out, why do Syrian children matter so much more than Ymeni children?

As Marshall McLuhan observed, media doesn't have to tell you what to think to be successful, it only has to  tell you what to think about.  In other words, as long as you are debating "Coke or Pepsi" then have won, no matter what your choice.

Spigot's picture

Exactly. You see it is important that professional journalists and their corporations be the ones to manage the news on your behalf and watch over your poor, tender soul with altruistic motives. Only THEY can properly know when real news or fake news or faked real faked news is appropriate in any given circumstance. Trust them. Let them be the ones to make the tough calls. Be a good consumer and eat the well planned meal presented to you. They made sure all the right ingredients and tasty additions are arranged for you. After all, they are doing god's work.

According to scientifically conducted polls after the election it was evident that the "uneducated" voted predominantly for Trump.

Is there a better microcosm of the structure of the system that purports to be in charge of American life than the hubris of the "educated" eletist media and their reliance on degrees from accredited institutions?

I am uneducated in their terms, but I promise I can figure out a practical problem that they would have to pay money to a consultant or tradesman to solve for them. I have read Swift, Hawthorne, Twain, Dosteyvsky, Solzhenistkin, and so on. However, I never received a degree from a university. I am uneducated, although I have worked in the oilfield for over 30 years while using my math skills to solve equations applicable to the partial pressures of various hydrocarbon compouinds and hydrostatic pressures at the bottom of a 12,000 ft. gas well. I think not. Rather, I think they comfort themselves by believing they have all the answers to what is good for me and my family.

Well, I think that I and a whole bunch of my fellow American workers on election day told those arrogant elitists what we think about their New World Order. They are now having a hard time coming to grips with the reality that they do not have all the answers for everyone.

I voted for Trump, even though last summer I thought I would never vote for him. The thing that convinced me was Loretta Lynch meeting Bill Clinton on the tarmac in Phoenix, and a week later, Comey saying that although HRC violated every law that they were investigating, there was no reasonable prosecutor who would seek an indictment.

It was then that I realized our country would continue to decline, that my children and grandchildren would have to learn to live in servitude to the government, that the American experiment would fail if I did not at least try to give someone else a chance to to bring some semblance of self government and constitutionality back to Washington, D.C.

And "my children and grandchildren", it is the what comes next is all that really matters.

As ZH continually points out "on a long enough timeline we as human beings are already dead".

Maybe not so for those not yet born if we manage to change it for the better and that means worse for those living off the backs of other peoples suffering.

Do not call yourself uneducated.

That term has been thoroughly discredited by academia, the MSM, .gov troublemakers, etc.

You have read books that have been missed by a high percentage of "Ivy Leaguers" at the student and teaching level.

Furthermore, both University students and teachers are for the most part unproductive burdens.

The students get loans to attend expensive schools where they don't study and spend too much time protesting something, adding to wasted taxes for additional police.

Others get scholarships that go to waste.

Then after goofing off for years, they can't find work, or maybe think they're too smart for work, then they can't pay their loans and someone else has to pay for them.

Again.

They can't even write clearly.

The teachers are the same, putting Marxist ideas into empty headed morons who think they know everything yet can't name their own state governors.

Those same teachers coach the MSM idiots who attended the same colleges and got the same vapid teachers, then go on to broadcast their stupidity to the whole world, being too stupid to realize how stupid they are.

You actually work and produce, are well read, weigh arguments, observe and note inappropriate .gov behavior, and use reason and logic on an everyday basis.

Don't ever give the academians and the MSM too much credit by calling them elites.

There is nothing elite about them.

They are are empty headed actors, not much different from the actors in that commercial about the Electoral College, yammering about something they don't understand.

You, sir, are Atlas and in Trump we Atlases have shrugged a bit. What will now proceed will indeed be what is best for the strengthening of this nation. However it will be hell in no uncertain terms. And well it should be, since we have been living in a fools paradise, and have become a nation of fools, far too long.

At this stage in our lives this is about making sure the children and grand children get a good start and have the skills and savvy needed for their part of the journey. They are the future, but will need our contribution to assist them in securing it as best as they can.

I know you joke. The current thought and mantra since the 60's has been that the ends justify the means. That is:  If it is necessary to commit the sin of lying to our country, then we, the leaders of the nation, should lie in order to make sure the people are happy with the outcome we will deliver. If they turn out to not be happy, well at least we will have the power an wealth to be happy ourselves. So, in the end everyone who agrees with us will be happy and wealthy. :)

As I learned in 9th grade geometry: If a statement says A & B, but A is false, or B is false, then the whole statement is false. That is, even if there is a scintilla of "truth" in a statement while there is also a falsehood included, then the statement cannot be relied upon as being true.

It is not a matter of perception, unless one cannot perceive when a lie is being told.

Where? Where is the blood? But yeah you busted us, we were hanging out with the cool kids the day the bio prof explained exactly what happens every time someone gets shot in the back 8 or 9 times. On the fake media, yes it has always been happening.

The MSM under Bill Clinton though now called upon to use their tools for the globalist agenda.

The brainwashing is starting to fail now with overuse and it was never proven it could work at the 24/7 level.

Very easy to prove the lies in all the fake propaganda and the reinforced concept of what fake propaganda is that you are now aware.

Imagine if they had used it as a one off every now and again (as they did), we would find it hard to see it and miss many.

WORSE FOR THEM THOUGH...

Economy was never going to fall apart with the propaganda supporting it.

Looks ominous now that the failed economy can no longer rely on this support mechanism.

All kidding aside, and all politics aside - the extent and degree to which the corporate media actively peddles disinfo to the public is frightening.

more alarming to me is how many people still buy into it.

I read but dont post to lots of msm comment sections and, granting they filter and censor, but the 'all in' uncritical acceptance of what those propagandists say is amazing. mostly fairly smart, educated people...

none.

I think the more correct statement would be not to believe ANYTHING you see these days on any part of the spectrum.  Makes trying to find the truth much more challenging.  No, that is not correct.  It is more that now it is very easy to see that the news is biased in many directions (as it always has been).  So trying to determine what is the REAL truth of a situation/story becomes more challenging as we can no longer simply believe what we are told to believe.

I suppose that is progress - but very challenging nonetheless!

Bit like the Fallon UK defence minsiter trying to justify all the suffering for military intervention when you know those responsible in the west are still causing it. As for installing democracy in Syria, total bollocks and because of this lack of governance in all the newly created failed states the human suffering will be greater and last for decades.

In the process you also put your own population at risk from violent backlashes because of the warmongering.
