Trump Tells DHS To Prepare For Border Wall Construction

Tyler Durden's picture

A memo from the Department of Homeland Security, which was recently reviewed by Reuters, suggest that the Trump administration plans to hit the ground running on the construction of that U.S.-Mexico border wall when they move into the White House later this month.  The memo apparently summarized a meeting held between DHS officials and Trump's transition team on December 5th in which requests were made for an assessment of "all assets available for border wall and barrier construction."

In a wide-ranging request for documents and analysis, President-elect Donald Trump's transition team asked the Department of Homeland Security last month to assess all assets available for border wall and barrier construction.

The requests were made in a Dec. 5 meeting between Trump's transition team and Department of Homeland Security officials, according to an internal agency memo reviewed by Reuters. The document offers a glimpse into the president-elect's strategy for securing the U.S. borders and reversing polices put in place by the Obama administration.

The Trump transition team also allegedly took aim at Obama's executive actions, requesting "copies of every executive order and directive sent to immigration agents since Obama took office in 2009."

The transition team also asked for copies of every executive order and directive sent to immigration agents since Obama took office in 2009, according to the memo summarizing the meeting.

Trump has said he intends to undo Obama's executive actions on immigration, including a 2012 order to allow children brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents to remain in the country on temporary authorizations that allow them to attend college and work.

The program, known as DACA, collected information including participants' addresses that could theoretically be used to locate and deport them if the policy is reversed. Another request of the transition team was for information about whether any migrant records have been changed for any reason, including for civil rights or civil liberties concerns, according to the internal memo seen by Reuters.

Trump

Among other immigration-related questions, the Trump transition team also hinted at expanding an aerial surveillance program and growing detention capacity for captured illegal immigrants.

One program the transition team asked about, according to the email summary, was Operation Phalanx, an aerial surveillance program that authorizes 1,200 Army National Guard airmen to monitor the southern border for drug trafficking and illegal migration.

The program once deployed 6,000 airmen under President George W. Bush but was downsized by Barack Obama, a move blasted by some conservatives who argue the surveillance is vital to border security.

The team also asked about the department's capacity for expanding immigrant detention and about an aerial surveillance program that was scaled back by the Obama administration but remains popular with immigration hardliners. And it asked whether federal workers have altered biographic information kept by the department about immigrants out of concern for their civil liberties.

Which sent two of the largest publicly-traded operators of private detention centers soaring even higher.

Immigration

Now, it seems the only question left to answer is if/how Mexico will pay for the "f**king wall"?  Cash or credit, Mr. Fox?

been there done that

let me tell you how it ends.  one dc agency suing another dc agency over the harm the wall will do to wildlife - the tumbleweed lice or the spanish horned fruit fly, etc..

wall hard stop

There is already a wall for much of the US-Mexico border.

A wall isn't effective, when there is little or no consequence for illegal immigrants once they get past it.

The wall become merely a hurdel to overcome, an inconvenience.

Trump's wall is a giant gift to his friends that own Nevada construction companies.

If you really want to stop illegal immigrants and drug smuuglers, then shoot a few.

Chupacabra-322's picture

Perhaps so Hedgeless. However, some strategically placed sinper towers would be a highly effective deterrent.

Build the wall 100 ft. high.  Cover it with razor wire.  Light it up with 100,000 volts.  Now, let's have a couple Mexicans try to climb it to see how well it works.  Let the bloody, crispy critter carcases lay there as a deterent to others.

beemasters's picture

Maybe 100ft deep too, huh? Just in case they might dig a tunnel through.
Drain those tax dollars!

Given the choice of building a wall and jailing Hillary, I would rather choose the latter.
Use cheaper alternatives of electronic surveillance systems along the border instead.

But of course, knowing Trump, he probably prefers something HUGE and concrete to seal his legacy/for the people to remember him by.

Davy Crockett's picture

A wall is a real thing that can't be easily removed by subsequent liberal administrations.  That's why you don't want one.   You know that electronic survellance can be turned off, decommissioned, or have it's wires mysteriously cut.

Trump needs to build the wall because when President Pelosi wants more democratic voters in 16 years, it won't be so easy for her to get them.

The solution is to, after a certain grace period, tattoo the face of any illegal that gets caught, and deport them. If a so tattooed individual is caught in the US, immediate execution. On the spot.

Any libshits that tattoo themselves to show "solidarity" get it too.

If they want in, they will come by the proper channels, period.

goldsaver's picture

Pelosi won't be alive in 16 years. The one I'm concerned about is President Keith Ellison. Sounds farfetched? Neither party has a bench. In the Republican side it gave us the McLame and Romney candidacies. Both empty suits with no chance of winning and no plan to govern. On the Democrat side it gave us the Great Pretender and the Wicked Witch of NY. Do nope be surprised if the DNC pushes Ellison for 2024.

He might want to consider land mines, autonomous robotized M2’s, and 400 kV electrification to help persuade folks to stay away from the fence/wall.

The fence could become a part of the grid to distribute electricity to border town in the Southwestern states.

The wall includes a complimentary sigh in spanish announcing the lethality.

Yes We Can. But Lets Not.'s picture

I'm thinking a shitload of razorwire, in two parallel bands around 100 yds apart, done right, will get the job done a lot cheaper and faster than a solid wall.

Manthong's picture

..don't forget the land mines in between.

It is not inhumane if it is a known and barrier defined hazard.

..just like you don't want to play football in a fenced-in electrical sub-station with abundant signage.

I believe there was a similar wall in Europe in the recent history... It does not help if the intruders can stay... All the hurdles will be overcome.

beemasters's picture

I agree. Some people think walls can't be removed/dismantled and will remain forever.

I had the distinct pleasure of patrolling the former East-West German border back in the 1980's. The Soviet client state was quiet successful in preventing border crossings...of course, people were trying to get out, not in. Some made it..heroes all, but on the whole it was an effective "wall". For the most part chain link and concertina, a ploughed strip, anti-personel mines, lots of observation posts with automatic weapons. 1980's technology but it worked well. It was the men in the OPs and patrols that made it work, not cinder block and mortar.

Ghordius's picture

all true (but I'm slightly puzzled about that "pleasure" word)

Yes, reinforcemnt of the wall with some 50 cent lead suppositories should do the trick...

It won't take long for the message to be heard loudly and clearly.

I've heard many government agencies have been stocking up for years.  So there's plenty of inventory and it will not add to the Federal deficit.

Obama’s Legacy.

CuttingEdge's picture

Obama's legacy is the +1000 serious felons he has given clemency to in recent months...big ouch for him when 90% of those motherfuckers start reoffending.

That is notwithstanding the Jihad warriors he is bringing in daily from Syria.

That's his plan. If you haven't noticed he is an anarchist. Just like putting the jihadis in Gitmo in federal prisons, where they can preach radical Islam to soon to be released inmates. You get the picture, it's bad news, can't we just drone him already.

froze25's picture

With "Shooting a few" you wouldn't need a wall. Cross the boarder and be prepared to die.

Yep.

Way more effective and way more cost effective.

Unfortunately...

Government pork...it's what's for dinner.

Grimaldus's picture

Soooooooo HH dude, prison walls do not work? I think they do, because they are part of a deterence package.

There has to be zero tolerance for illegal immigration in addition to a fence or wall. That is a winning combination.

The threat of being shot should actually be there too, I agree.

Prison walls work only because they are manned with armed men ready, willing, and able to shoot escapees.

Grimaldus's picture

"Prison walls work "

Very accurate statement HH. I agree. But you are saying a border wall wont work?

Hmmmmmm, you know there probably cannot be an armed guard around the clock positioned in overlapping feilds of fire along the entire border. Too great a distance. That is why a wall is part of the deterrence package.

Duh.

Your argument against a wall sounds like progressive talking points baloney.

I would like to suggest a "Go Fund Me" page where US citizens could voluntarily donate and where contractors, construction workers, and anyone with the gumption (old fashioned word) could sign up and donate their time and effort.  I'll bet the good people of the US could have that built at no tax dollar expense in less than a year.  Still need those gun turrets, though.  (But we'll build those, too!)  Kind of like Habitat for Humanity, don't you think?

VZ58's picture

Now that is friggin brilliant! Gotta get this done.

Citizen G's picture

Brilliant indeed. I would just love to see how much money got raised. I guarantee it would be an astounding figure. I personally would donate enough to thoroughly piss off my wife and jeopardize my retirement.
