"He Is Going To Fail": Georges Soros Slams "Would Be Dictator" Trump

Tyler Durden's picture

Billionaire investor George Soros spoke to Bloomberg TV in Davos, and said the euphoria among stock investors since the victory of President-elect Donald Trump will end as uncertainty takes over.

In an interview that may have been even gloomier than his last address to Davos in January 2016, when he said he was short the market, predicted a Chinese hard landing, and said the Fed's hike was a mistake, on Thursday Soros unleashed the hate, saying America has elected a "would-be dictator" as president, the European Union is disintegrating, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May won’t last long as her nation prepares to secede from the EU, and China is poised to become an even more repressive society.

Talking his book, Soros said that 'Uncertainty is at a peak, and actually uncertainty is the enemy of long-term investment," said the chairman of Soros Fund Management. "I don’t think the markets are going to do very well. Right now they’re still celebrating. But when reality comes, it will prevail."

As a reminder, the WSJ reported last week that Soros lost nearly $1 billion as a result of the stock-market rally spurred by Trump’s surprise win in November. Soros became more pessimistic immediately after Trump’s election. But stocks rallied on expectations that Trump’s policies will boost corporate earnings and the overall economy.

The key highlight of the Soros interview, however, was his vicious slam of his nemesis, Donald Trump, saying "I have described him as an impostor and con man, and a would be dictator" and said that "I'm personally convinced he's going to fail" because the "the policies that guide him are inherently self-contradictory."

He said that "Trump would be a dictator if he could get away with it" but believes that the Constitution of the United States is strong enough to prevent Trump from taking too much power.

As a reminder, Soros was one of Hillary Clinton's biggest donors, and has spent millions to prevent Trump from entering the White House.

He also said that it's impossible to predict exactly how Trump will act because he hasn't actively thought it through, he was surprised when he won. He added that he only started thinking seriously about what he would do after he was elected.

Some other notable quotes via Forexlive:

  • Trump stands for a government that's the opposite of an open society, something like a dictatorship or a mafia state
  • Trump believes his ideas are the will of the people so anyone who is against him is against the people
  • Markets will falter as uncertainty takes over

Speaking about Europe and the UK, he said that Europe is in the process of disintegration. “If Europe breaks down, the consequences will be very dire,” the investor said. “But I do see a way it could be saved, and this is also recognized by many of the people in Brussels. They can’t say so publicly, but they know that Europe is not functioning.”

He forecast that "if Europe breaks down, the consequences will be very dire, it's currently going on the wrong direction."

He also took aim at the UK saying, “it is unlikely that Prime Minister May is actually going to remain in power,” adding she has a divided cabinet and base and Britons are in denial about the economic impact of Brexit. He predicted that inflation will be the force that will lead to declining living standards in the UK but said that it would take some time.

Going back to China and Trump, Soros then said that Trump is definitely gearing up for a trade war with China which is irreconcilable with economic prosperity. He pointed out that, ironically, Trump would do more to make China an acceptable leader of the international community than Chinese could do by themselves.

Soros continued to take a dim view of China's economy, saying the nation is at a decision point and must choose whether to become a more open or closed society as it transitions to a consumer-led economy. “China has not actually succeeded yet in changing its growth model and probably won’t do it in the next two years because Xi Jinping wants to maintain an unsustainable rate of growth,” he said. Jinping “is doing that by rekindling the furnaces and producing more goods that are already in supply.”

He also predicted that if Trump names China a currency manipulator, they will retaliate.

Finally, on the topic of China, he also warned that a trade war can easily spiral in a real military conflict.

To move forward, he called for cohesion among for unity and said that he hopes "the people who believe in an open society can get together."

He concluded by expressing his frustration with the recent Hungarian crackdown on his various NGOs, reading from a pre-written statement and saying that the processes taking place in his native country impair human values and democracy.

George Soros said: The euphoria among stock investors since the victory of President-elect Donald Trump will end as uncertainty takes over. Uncertainty is the enemy of long-term investment.

What Soros forgot to tell you is that: Most people don’t care about the stock market. That the stock market is a fraud with the intent of siphoning wages. And that EVERY stock market eventually fail.

~""I'm personally convinced he's going to fail" because the "the policies that guide him are inherently self-contradictory," said George Soros.

"And I will do everything in my power to insure he does fail!" he concluded.~

you and escrava bring up excellent points, uncertainty is the enemy of long term investments and the crooked markets and their naked shorts are the enemy of market transparency. soros can corrupt the market in the short term.

but, imo, even though most people don't care about the stock market, they should. at least as an asset class they have consciously decided not to invest in (good idea now; silver miners are much better).  what i mean is: no debt unless inflation is less than what you pay to borrow and what you spend the money on increases in price more than what you pay as vigorish.  notice i put the concept in twice.

I can't wait to see what Trump says about Soros on Twiiter. I bet it will be classic.

Actually, I would argue the inverse. I think too many people have their heads wrapped up in their IRAs and 401Ks, and save for the house they live in, have not diversified anywhere near enough. The inherent problem is that they are almost exclusively vested in US Dollar-denominated investments or investments that are Ameri-centric. That though may be beginning to change.

Keith Wiener pointed out just this week in his newsletter that something curious has occurred in the gold market. The scarcity of gold has risen at the same time the price has. Normally the availability of gold goes up as the price increases, as hoarders become willing to part with their stacks as prices become more attractive. As Wiener points out, recently that has not been the case. Whether this backwardation persists has yet to be seen, but it does bear noting.

As you and many Zhers know, we live today in Alice's Wonderland, replete with certifiable Mad Hatters. Diversification means more than just not having everything you own denominated in dollars. It also means not being denominated in urban areas. Or limited food supplies. Or obtuse calibers. Those forms or mal-investment could possibly as ill conceived as just having a Roth and nothing else.

I'm not saying do not hold American dollars. Quite to the contrary. But if you are going to use the USD as an investment, (which will be, for a while, a very good idea), then hold US Dollars. For all of the zeros and ones the US government has created and called "dollars", there are precious few of them around to cover all of the markers, so to speak. If and or when a crunch comes, the ATMs will run dry overnight. There just won't be enough of them for all the people who wish to run to their implied safety. If someone else is holding your dollars, you're in the same boat as the guy standing in line at the ATM.

Soros and his globalist cronies will set the world alight before losing to the populists. The only question is can they sell the idea of global war to the masses. The biggest impediment is an honest press. We have seen the development of one, aptly named "alt-right". I think they will redouble their efforts to subvert the internet to take down the alt-right media so as to be able to freely attack the populist movement, not only in America but around the world.

Hey! Sorry I'm late!

I got run over by a gang of CNN & NBC reporters going after Soros for his comment about saying Trump will fail. When they got done verbally accosting Soros they ran over me again trying to get to Low-Renta Lynch and ask her what kind of EO Obama was going to sign in order confiscate all his assets & deport him for "interfering in our democracy".

Oh wait ;-)

that would include impersonations of keyser söze (or the zionists), including murder of the family and friends of targeted individuals.

George Soros/Gyorg Schwarz needs to be investigated, arrested, charged, and convicted of financial malicious mischief and instigating social strife.

Any of his organizations that participated directly or indirectly in rampages, vandalism, obstructions, or any other activity that resulted in personal injury and/or loss of life, destruction of property, public danger, and any associated medical bills and property repair, should have assets confiscated and distributed to the targets of his depravity.

And so as to avoid wasting time and energy by giving him free room and board in prison, he should be handed over to the Ruskies since they have a warrant for him anyway.

So we could get his infected carcass off our soil and make the Ruskies happy all in one move.

I'm tired of investigations for these people.  The powerful always skate free.  I'm now for summary judgement and a firing squad the same day.

If we want the truest form of justice, we have to administer it ourselves. Elite scum must simply be assassinated, suicided, etc. by citizens.

jeff montanye's picture

now this is chest pounding and name calling without the benefit of humor.

but, were it real, it would be quite unsettling.

(not that i advocate rule of man over rule of law).

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

The NWO psychopaths really do need a takedown, but how to do it?

They are all intertwined with each other and hide their rot within legitimate systems.

Ripping them out would only damage good structures and and the other psychos would scatter and regroup like roaches.

They will have to be carefully fleshed out the way a surgeon carefully cuts out abnormalities that are hidden within the folds of healthy tissue.

This will take time and care.

Maybe offer immunity to a few to catch the most deviant schemers.

jeff montanye's picture

it will take care and much preparation.  a half cocked prosecution is worse than none at all because if they escape it will be seen as an exoneration.

it will eventually come down to 9-11 and the wars made therefrom.  so the battle will be epic and very ugly.

one part where i think soros is right is that it is counterproductive for trump to have a full on trade war or other confrontation with china.  that will screw up too many important things, not least of all improving ties with russia and making the world less warlike.  some tweaking of them around the edges could be useful but china will defend their real interests well and tirelessly.

trade and aid not loan and drone.

The Gun Is Good's picture

You already have rule of man over rule of law.

Worse than that, you have corrupt man corrupting law in order to rule, corruptly. [See my post below for a little more explanation of what I advocate.]

What solution(s) do you propose?
