Iran Admits It Test Fired New Missile, Putting Nuclear Deal In Jeopardy

Tyler Durden's picture

After yesterday US officials reported that Iran conducted a nuclear ballistic missile test on Sunday, which some claimed would be another violation of the UN resolution and Obama's nuclear deal, on Wednesday Iran's defense minister admitted that the Islamic Republic had indeed tested a new missile, but added the test did not breach Tehran's nuclear accord with world powers or a U.N. Security Council resolution endorsing the pact.

Iran has test-fired several ballistic missiles since the nuclear deal in 2015, but this is the first during U.S. President Donald Trump's administration. Trump said in his election campaign that he would stop Iran's missile program. Furthermore, the confirmed launch comes at a precarious time, with president Trump seemingly looking for excuses to scrap the Iran deal, which could potentially lead to the reestablishment of Iran sanctions and the halt of Iranian oil exports to global markets, taking away as much as 1 million barrels of daily supply.

"The recent test was in line with our plans and we will not allow foreigners to interfere in our defense affairs," Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan said, according to Tasnim news agency . "The test did not violate the nuclear deal or the (U.N.)resolution 2231," he said.

A U.S. official said on Monday that Iran test-launched a medium-range ballistic missile on Sunday and it exploded after traveling 630 miles (1,010 km). Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif neither confirmed nor denied the U.S. report, but said on Tuesday that Tehran would never use its ballistic missiles to attack another country.

The U.N. Security Council resolution, adopted in a deal to curb Iran's nuclear activities, "called upon" Iran to refrain from work on ballistic missiles "designed to" deliver nuclear weapons. Critics say the language does not make this obligatory.

However, the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and world powers does not include provisions preventing Iran from conducting ballistic missile tests.

Ultimately, it will be up to Trump to decide whether and how to retaliate to Iran's latest show of force, which comes just days after Trump announced travellers from Iran could be temporarily banned from entering the US, sparking retaliation on behalf of Iran which blocked US visitors to the Islamic Republic.

Jarrett and Obama made sure they got plane loads of cash Swiss Francs , gold, their US deposits back already as well as Russian uranium.

They don’t give a flying F about the US now.

It’s Bibi’s problem until they prove out a decent ICBM.

Obama and Jarrett should be in jail for that unlawful gold and cash deal.

FreezeThese is a horrible troll. Not only is he not funny, but he's not witty either.

In case his comment is serious, hey dumb ass, at least Bannon won't send over $ billions and do nothing.

I'm not big on infringing on free speach, but this guy should be blocked. Not funny, not witty, and doesn't lend anything to the conversation. Either a liberal who really just is that stupid, or he's paid to act stupid. I'm betting the latter because if he really is that stupid, he's lowering the bar pretty far.

But hey, if we want to keep him on here to remind us how dumb the left is that's ok too. Everyone needs a village idiot. Whoops, FreezeThese, was that insensative against people who lives in villages? Whoops, so sorry...

The Iranian's,  being Iranian's,  are going to test Trump right off the bat. It is their nature and quite frankly, they can't stop themselves.

I'm sure they have seen how that has gone so far? But they of course assume they are different. Somehow exceptional and they will experience a different result.

Stay tuned.

Fuck you you lemon-head. The first role of the state, is the protect of its citizens. It is cunts like you that wish to arm yourself to the teeth and for others to be defenceless and at the whim of your mercy. No American I have met, who is pro-gun, would accept such a position, thus making you my friend, a bloody hypocrite. Iran has the right to defend herself from any possible aggression, with the same weapons at the disposal of her enemies and neighbouring states and if you disagree, are you willing to sign a pact, like the USSA has with Israel, to come to Irans aid if attacked? If the answer is no then, fuck off back to your cave.

Given history over the last 100 years, it should be the Iranians fearing for their safety, than the belligerents who wish to impose military impotence on her. Fuck you and all like minded thinkers like you. No country in the world could impose, or demand military impotence on my beloved United Kingdom and thus, I would not demand it from anybody else. How many countries has Iran attacked in the last 100 years? Now ask the same question of the UK and USSA? Debate over, don't you think?

But Murican accept the criminal State of Israel with reputed 400 atomic weapons.  Until the USA dog is directed by the Jewish tail it will not act about the criminality of the Pariah state . Have you forgotten the USS Liberty ? It was not Iran that did it ! it was the rogue state that controls the USA . Until the USA and the UN resolve the problem with the criminal state of Israel there is no moral reason to attack Iran.

Last time I checked they were chanting "Death to America" in Teheran, not Tel-Aviv.
The US has no problem with Israeli nukes for the same reason it doesn't have a problem with British or French nukes - they are not pointed at American citizens.

cynical_skeptic's picture

i seem to recall something about "the dancing israeli's". ring any bells?

monoloco's picture

You might be chanting "death to America" yourself, if you lived in a country with a long history of interferrence by the USSA, including having a democratically elected president overthrown in a CIA directed coup.

BabaLooey's picture

Yo...fart blower.

Did I say anything about Iran defending itself?

NO.

You shit out two loaded paragraphs about fearing for their safety and fighting enemies.....

While I ONLY derided Barkey Soetero for his Lurch Ketchup yammeringly stupid, then shit-cash pallet deal WE got fucked over on.

Back off bitch!

To Hell In A Handbasket's picture

I get your point and I'm sorry for my colourful language, but the fact remains the USSA, via the Kenyan kneegrow, was directed by his handlers to impose military impotence on a nation, on terms the USSA would never accept herself. This just boggles my mind. IMO it was  Lurch Ketchup yammeringly stupid, to even demand such a deal from Iran.

How many treaties has the USSA broken, or left if not in her national interest, yet this fucked up nation demands other nations to fully adhere to every treaty they have ever signed if it benefits the USSA? Come on man! Who would accept such a deal?

BabaLooey's picture

Never be sorry for your "colorful language".

The Lurch/Soetero deal was a bucket of shit. Period.

I'd like to point out that one of the first things they did with that cash is order a bunch of airliners from Boeing. Not exactly the action of a country that's planning the nuclear anhilation of the west.

No shit.

Let's see, the Iranians are watching the west (CIA and Mossad) wreck a half a dozen neighboring countries around them and bomb the places into rubble (Using some tactical nukes, BTW. .. I'm sure there will be wailing of denial, but a fact nonetheless. .. Want to see the videos?) and we are suppose to pretend they don't have reason to be panicked and wanting nukes and delivery systems for self defense?

Bibi Baby is up to his eyeballs in this intrigue, heinous fuckery and bombing Muzzie countries into the stone age campaign, BTW.

Reign in that asswipe and things in the ME will calm down a bit.

The Iranian regime is led by a bunch of crazy fundamentalist clerics, who murder and opress their own citizens, force women to walk around in tents and hang gay people off crains. What about the Iranian people? Don't they have the right of "self defense"? And how will they ever be able to overthrow this tyranical regime once it acquires nuclear weapons?

My sentiments exactly, THIAH.  You'll find that half of the people on this site believe all the propaganda against Iran and thus have the John Wayne attitude toward them.  I have to admit it gives me some delight knowing how that picture of a missile launched in Iran gives our gallant little ally in the Middle East the shivers.  Now they won't be able to bully as much.  Boo hoo.  Prepare yourself for all of the coming wailing and war-drumming in the Western media about the danger we all now face.  But, as you stated, Iran has the right to protect herself and her interests just like anybody else... ESPECIALLY when it has a mad-dog neighbor whose history is nothing BUT belligerence and aggression.

JRobby's picture

I believe the post was referring to the deal. Not weather there should be a deal or not? Your argument being they were forced into a deal to get sanctions lifted?

That was then. This is now. Perhaps the deal will be renegotiated?  But your stance appears to be no Western involvement in the Middle East period?

That's a discussion for sure.

Think what you want - which is not much.

1) I'm no worshiper - as you barfing babies like to label people. "Clever" monikers as to Trump makes you akin to a junior cub reporter on the high school gazette. You pick and choose posts, while disregarding those I disagree with Trump on. Plenty of other Trump taint lickers on her to pick on. Do this. Find ONE post of mine where I "gushed love" or pissed my pants over all things Trump.

Good luck. Trump - IMO - works for us. He's an EMPLOYEE. Fireable. He has no cover, as the shit-press - bought off as they are - will scrutinize every single thing he does.

2) The last thing I am is Jewish. Nice try.

I await the pithy response to come.

Baba, like your posts, but you're wrong on this one.

The Zios and the Wahhabists want Uncle Sugar to smash Iran, and are using nuke deal and separate, vaguely worded unsc res iran never agreed to, as a pretext

http://www.opednews.com/articles/Why-Saudi-Israeli-Team-Hat-by-Consortiu...

Bear in mind:

https://theintercept.com/2015/03/02/brief-history-netanyahu-crying-wolf-...

Iran did not break any deal they signed - its neocon nonsense. Israel goaded the US into tacking on the unsc resolution... and you know how Israel adheres to UN resolutions, right... trying to target conventional missiles and antiaircraft.

https://consortiumnews.com/2016/10/10/how-trump-got-the-iran-deal-wrong/

https://consortiumnews.com/2016/11/18/iran-deal-tests-trumps-independence/

Basically Israel, with hundreds of nukes and chemical and biological weapons, currently occupying another people under a colonizing apartheid regime, is demanding Iran not develop any weapons to defend itself or counterattack when Israel gets its diaspora Jews to make war on Iran for Greater Israel.

Stop trusting Breitbart, Zio controlled, on Iran.

CNONC's picture

Too many here still analyze the world through the lens of "good guys" vs. "bad guys."  Global politics is not as complex as the striped suit crowd pretends, understandable only to the Phd elites, but it is a little more complex than cops and robbers.  Iran has nuclear intent.  I suspect they already have an advanced nuclear capability.  All available evidence suggests, to me, that the North Korean program is linked to the Iranian program.  I ask any reasonable observer to explain to me how an impoverished, autarkic economy has successfully produced a, likely already minitureized, fission weapon (70 year old tech, by the way) while much wealthier Iran, with substantial access to foreign technology and industrial processes, and a large cadre of Western trained engineers, has not been able to do so.  It is, of course, laughable.  That leads to only two possible answers.  Either the Iranians have no interest in gaining nuclear weapons or they already have them.  While it is reasonable to suggest that the Iranians have concluded that possession of nuclear weapons would destabilize the region and, thus, reduce their security, their ballistic missle program suggests otherwise.  The size of the potential warheads, coupled with the apparent accuracy of the systems, suggests that the military value of the missle systems is tiny relative to their cost.  Only WMD allows the missle systems to be militarily useful.  This strongly suggests, at least, nuclear intentions.  The only remaining question is what is, within the strategic doctrine adopted by the Iranian State, the place of these weapons.  Given the range of the most advanced of their missles, and the focus on anti ship missles, I suspect the potential target of Iranian nuclear weapons is not Israel, but US naval assets in the region.

For what it's worth. (which is nothing)
