Russia Denies Shooting at Ukrainian Military Plane In Black Sea

Tyler Durden's picture

With the US State Department in a state of protracted hiatus for the time being, tensions are again rising between Russia and Ukraine, and especially in East Ukraine, where over the past few days the number of soldiers killed in an offensive by pro-Russian separatists has reportedly risen to seven, Ukraine's military said on Monday, in the deadliest outbreak of fighting in the east of the country since mid-December.

The clashes between Ukraine's military and the pro-Russian separatists coincide with U.S. President Donald Trump's call for better relations with Moscow that has alarmed Kiev while the conflict in its eastern region remains unresolved. According to Ukraine sources, the rebels began attacking government positions in the eastern frontline town of Avdiyivka on Sunday. Five soldiers were killed and nine wounded on Sunday and two more were killed on Monday, they said.

"The situation in the Avdiyivka industrial zone is challenging. The enemy continues to fire at our positions with heavy artillery and mortars," Ukrainian military spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk told a regular daily briefing. Naturally, since the media on both sides is clearly biased in its coverage, it came as no surprise that both local separatists news agencies, and Russia, denied escalation had occurred.

In the meantime, it appears that whether real or fabricated, the push to escalate another conflict is building, and on Wednesday, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said that a Ukrainian An-26 transport plane came under rifle fire from a Russian drilling rig while flying near the Odessa gas field in the Black Sea. The plane was allegedly involved in drill over Black Sea, and was flying in Ukrainian air space.

"A Ukrainian transport plane came under fire today while flying over the Ukrainian maritime economic zone during a training mission. The crew members were not injured," Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak reported to President Petro Poroshenko as cited by Poroshenko's press secretary Svyatoslav Tsegolko.

Moments later, as expected, the Russian Black Sea Fleet categorically denied these claims.

"All Ukrainian claims of the alleged shooting at the An-26 plane are absolute lies," an official from the Black Sea Fleet's headquarters said in a statement. According to the statement, the Ukrainian An-26 military plane carried out on Wednesday afternoon two provocative approaches at extremely low altitude to Russia's Tavrida and Crimea-2 drilling platforms.

"During the plane's second approach, a security guard at one of the platforms fired four signal flares to prevent a possible collision of the plane with the platform's mast," the official stressed.

The news comes amid the joint naval drills of the seven North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states with the Ukrainian Naval Forces in the Black Sea, which started on Wednesday.

Moreover, the situation near the industrial town of Avdiivka and neighboring Yasynuvata has been tense for several days, with civilians being deprived of running water, central heating and electricity. The Ukrainian forces and Donbass militia are accusing each other of being responsible for escalation of fighting.

With the ongoing political power vacuum in the US, it is a possibility that the dormant conflict between Russia and Ukraine is rekindled in the coming days.

Ukraine is following the exact same playbook they always do. Here's how it works:

1) Ignite conflict with Novorussians in East Ukraine.

2) Immediately get ass handed to them.

3) Release some lies and bullshit to "blame Russia" for what is happening and cry to west for help.

Is Trump as dumb as the previous administration to fall for it?  I sure hope not.

SoDamnMad's picture

The oligarchs are still screwing the country and stuffing as much aid money in their pockets as they can steal. Porky refuses to get a prosecutor who will get the job done.

All this noise and the renewed shelling of Donetsk by the Kiev Nazis is a Soros / Brussels poke at Trump and Putin.

Manthong's picture

I think that maybe Trump and Putin should go clean up the Obama/Hillary/Nuland/McCain mess in Nazi occupied Kiev as a warm-up before going after ISIS big time.

Is Obama running the shadow gov? Looks like more of his Nobel Peace.

The stupid dumbfuck Ukrainian neo-Nazis have regularly been murdering civilians in east Ukraine. It looks like Trump may pull the plug on unconditional US support, so the stupid dumbfuck Ukrainian neo-Nazis are shitting themselves.

The Novorossian forces gave them some payback a few days ago (ammon normally expended in a month was dumped on them in a few days) so they suffered massive losses of men and machine. If Trump does pull support, they are going to be seriously trashed. This may give warning to NATO to cease the bs as well, as the Novorossian army is only a few years old. They will face the real McCoy.

But very tired of the absurd phrase Pro-Russia separatists.

How could they not be pro-Russia: They are after all Russians.

Are the French pro-France? Are Israeli's pro-Israel? Are Swedes pro-Sweden?

To run Deep Shadow State (DSS) you have to be a clever, cynical, duplicitous, traitorous, psychotic bastard. O'butty man misses on the clever.

You omitted step 0

0) Agencies of the USSA deep state consult and devise a plan that will violate Minsk Treaty and which may be used to blame all outcomes on a belligerant, war-mongering, hostile,  threat to global peace and welfare, conniving Putin, Russia.

News reports stongly suggest that the outbrak of conflict is due to the Ukrainian forces attempting to enter Novorussian areas on a metre by metre basis and getting their asses handed to them in meaty chunks as the Novorussians defend their territory.

Trump should send Tulsi Gabard on a fact finding mission.

fleur de lis's picture

Sushi,

That is a great idea -- Tulsi Gabbard really is a truthseeker.

Her word is honorable and reliable.

The constant demonization of the Russians stems from perverts at our end, and the MSM concubines only fan the flames.

An honest broker like Gabbard is critical.

Personally, I think this is some kind of remote controlled disaster like that Malaysian plane that vanished into thin air.

Yes, they can make that happen.

All kinds of perverts at the top.

The CIA probably did it as a false flag to force Trump's hand against Russia.

Ukraine is following the exact same SOROS playbook, because SOROS is too busy poisoning Syria right now to update it.  He needed Hillary to take some load off, but she couldn't even win that sure-thing election thingie.  Sheess.  No good help!

Certainly, FortRUSS has some good reporting today: http://www.fort-russ.com/2017/02/is-war-in-donbass-back-on-3-possible.html

Including a Tonchka missile launch from Mordor, plenty grads and over 100 orcs dead already, about the same amount wounded, take a look.

Time for Nuvorussia to sort them out once and for all.

"an offensive by pro-Russian separatists has reportedly risen to seven"

You might wanna fact check this Tyler.  The Ukies have lied consistently during the entire war.  I have little doubt that they were the ones doing the offensive operations and then screamed for international help once they got their asses kicked on a small scale.

My impression from some reports is that WUke has been starting to increase pressure on EUke once again.  Smaller battles and engagements but showing a pattern.

Putin made a mistake by not fully supporting the EUke's and allowing them to wipe out half of WUke's forces during Obama's time in office.  Instead he forced ceasefires that allowed the WUke's to safely withdraw and take new positions.

HowdyDoody's picture

East Ukraine is not an existential threat to Russia. The US trained takfiri terrorists are (or rather were) so that had to be sorted first. If Russia had gone in, US sanctions would have stopped totally crippled Russia and prevented its actions in Syria - no air flights through third party countries, no external finance, etc, etc - which is why the US has been trying to goad Russia to do just that.

Blankone's picture

There was no need for Russia to go in with troops on the ground.  Putin stopped the EUke's from destroying the WUke's themselves.  The EUke's had fought and died to get in position to wipe them out and just as they were proceeding to do so Putin forced them to stop.  Putin saved the WUke's.

As for your other assertions, would the Putin booster club please continue their previous meme, you know, "Don't Poke the Bear", "Putin will not play around, he will destroy you", "Russia has the capacity to roll over Uke, Europe and Middle East with ease"

What you are telling us is that just a couple years ago Russia was so weak it had not capabilities.  If you are correct, nothing has really changed in two years.

Extract from great article by an Irishman in Russia - very witty and insightful:

https://www.rt.com/op-edge/375506-putin-sanctions-eu-euro-nato/

Bearing all this in mind, there seems to be only one way Eurocrats can undermine Putin. One that, I will admit, is somewhat counterintuitive and probably unfathomable to Brussels – how about a formal invitation for Russia to replace Britain in the European Union, on condition that it also joins the Euro? Because in the (admittedly unlikely) event the Kremlin would accept such entreaties, Putin would be gone in short order. After all, look at how successful the Euro has been at destroying living standards across Europe, and the hopes and dreams of millions? From Athens to Dublin, it has wrought damage that the EU’s biggest enemies could only have dreamed of.

Kirk2NCC1701's picture

And, just to be sure, they should also invite Russia to join ZATO?

If I were Russia, I'd front-run that move, and openly invite the former Satellites into a New-European Trading Zone.

Said Zone would be an Economic Area with reduced or absent Trade Tarriffs, that use a variety of currencies for trade, in a free-market environment.

Said Zone would also include a mutual Non-Aggression Pact, to ease political and social tensions, and increase stability and prosperity in the Zone.

IOW... A Safe, Secure, Libertarian ('Laissez-faire') Environment for Trade and Commerce, that respects local and regional culture, norms and heritage. (I.e. No "Invasive Species" allowed).

Radio Liberty said the Ukrainians were seizing border territories in the gray areas of the conflict and the separatists responded.  In one village they hid in  truckslike those used in the towns pig farm and jumped out and caught the separatists off-guard.  Now all the guns have been pulled out of the storage sites according to OSCE and are firing.  This 6-8 soldiers killed could be one direct hit by a shell.  Past news was that the Ukrianians had downloaded an personal app on their mobile phones which the separatists used to locate the phones positions and fire counter-battery rounds which significant success.

I am amazed at the amount of video footage from cell phones and GoPros that I am seeing from conflict zones around the world.  When I was in the service (long before digital recording - cellulose and magnetic tape only) we were not allowed to be in possesion of any recording device at all.  The idea was that any thing on that film would be captured by the enemy, when their intellegence services stripped our bloody corpses.  I have seen videos of forces in Syria preparing for an attack, carrying out the attack, and then discussing the outcome.

As bad as that is, now each soldier has a device that emits a trackable, identifiable signal, and allows him to communicate outside his unit without command authorization.  What fool of a commander or NCO would allow his troops to possess a cell phone?  I am suspicious.  I recently saw an ad for new television show purportedly based on GoPro footage from a GI in Afgahanistan.  Either that show is based on pure, unadulterated fraud, or the US military has lost its mind.

The observations on the 26th pointed to the preparation of a full attack which was launched on January 28:

The SMM recorded fewer ceasefire violations in Donetsk region between the evenings of 27 and 28 January compared with the previous reporting period (including about 330 explosions compared with about 520).[1] In the following 24 hours, however, the SMM recorded over 2,300 explosions, primarily in the Avdiivka-Yasynuvata-Donetsk airport area.

The SMM observed that the intense artillery barrage was launched north to south originating from the government held area.

The NAZI volunteer battalions from west-Ukrainian Galicia are spearheading the attack. There is ongoing fighting with intense artillery usage on several points along the ceasefire line (map). One main battle ground is the city of Avdeevka in the demilitarized zone north-west of Donetzk city.

The Germans already know what's up...porkie ployed them too many times.

The Ukrainian government has so far avoided to fulfill the Minsk II agreement that would allow a reuniting of the country. An OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM), which includes officers from NATO countries as well as Russia, is supervising the ceasefire and issues daily reports.

On January 26 the SMM reported:

The SMM recorded more ceasefire violations [1] in Donetsk region, including about 420 explosions, compared with 228 in the previous reporting period. More than 160 explosions were recorded around the Svitlodarsk area, with exchanges of fire also recorded around Avdiivka and Yasynuvata.
...
The Mission revisited a Ukrainian Armed Forces permanent storage site, whose location corresponded with the relevant withdrawal lines and observed that 12 tanks (T-64) and four mortars (2B9 Vasilek, 82mm) were missing, as previously noted.
...
The SMM followed up on reports of a blockade of a railway track near government-controlled Hirske. The railway leads towards the “LPR”-controlled settlements of Donetskyi and Sentianivka (formerly Frunze) (49 and 44km west of Luhansk, respectively). The Mission had observed a train travelling east through Donetskyi on 23 January. The SMM observed that the tracks had been blocked by tree trunks under a bridge on the southern edge of the settlement. About 20 unarmed men wearing camouflage clothing told the Mission that they were veterans from former volunteer battalions. The SMM observed a tent near the blockade site.

The OSCE has proven themselves to be nothing more than a forward/mobile observation group for the Ukie Army.  There are multiple reports from civilians of Ukie attacks that they show to the OSCE, which aren't documented or reported or if they are the Pro-Russians are getting the blame.  They also seem to move away from areas that get attacked soon after.  They nare more than useless !!
