California City Erects 'Prison Camp' To Deal With Homeless

Tyler Durden's picture

There are two major problems that come to mind, explains SHTFPlan.com's Mac Slavo; first, the level of homelessness, poverty and idle populations in California and across the country, and second, the divided world between the 1% and the struggling 99% is coming to a head.

Economically, things are very close to the brink, and there are far too many people who’ve given up at the individual level. This crisis has given the impetus for cities like Santa Ana to take drastic action.

The other side of the coin, is that if they can do this to homeless vagrants, and out of work families, they can do it to anyone. If civil unrest comes, perhaps in combination with mass unemployment, a crashed stock market and monetary system and great misery, those keeping society in check will feel compelled to come down with a heavy hand. People will be rounded up, some of them unfairly. Entire communities can be disrupted, or forced under an emergency to evacuate and take shelter in FEMA centers while the cities become off limits. There are a lot of things that can happen – including to hard working, employment, head-above-water American families.

When this thing starts to unravel, making do in the current atmosphere won’t cut it; in the aftermath of what is coming, many people will be desperate. Tent cities and migrating Americans looking for temporary work will return; millions more will flock to government welfare programs, and be dragged into the dregs of collectivist measure to ride out bad times. They are moving to sweep up the disarray of a society that is crumbling, and a financial landscape that is no longer survivable for a wide sector of the general population.

City Erects Prison Camp To Deal With Homeless – Cutting Off Food And Water

Authored by The Free Thought Project's Matt Agorist,

The City of Santa Ana has come up with an innovative and despotic way of keeping their homeless population in check — imprison them. The city is now party to a federal lawsuit over unreasonable seizure, false imprisonment, and due process violations.

Heading up the lawsuit on behalf of Michael Diehl, who has lived at the encampment for three years, is the ACLU of Southern California. The lawsuit demands the immediate removal of the 6-foot-tall chain-link fences penning in 75-100 people and their belongings.

“Defendants’ actions have not only illegally restricted the liberty of the homeless people living in the encampment, but it has also cut them off from access to food, water, and medical care thus threatening their health and well-being,” the lawsuit states.

According to Courthouse News:

Diehl was shot in the head at a Tustin convenience store in 2009. He lost his right eye and doctors were unable to remove the bullet from his head. He takes medication every day to control seizures that have become more frequent with the increased presence of authorities at the encampment, he says in the complaint.

When a woman suffered a seizure at the encampment after the fence was erected, Diehl says, paramedics had difficulty reaching her because the barriers have blocked parts of the sidewalks at Chapman Avenue and Orangewood Avenue where people used to come and go.

If people living at the encampment cut holes in the fences with bolt cutters, Orange County Public Works employees repair it. For the elderly and disabled it is neither safe nor realistic to scale the fence or navigate the river to get to a steep, rocky embankment on the river’s west side, Diehl says.

“Children, people with severe disabilities, the elderly and others are deprived of food, water and access to restrooms,” said ACLU homelessness policy analyst Eve Garrow. “The county should take action to rectify this egregious violation of basic human rights.”

Naturally, the county is claiming that they are not doing anything wrong and that the fence, put in place after the homeless community began growing there, is for ‘flood control.’

“The county is aware that there are homeless encampments in the project area. Flood control channels are not a safe place to live. Sign postings and in-person notifications about the project have been provided to those encamped along the county maintenance road,” the county said in a statement.

However, according to Diehl and the others who are imprisoned in the camp, police told them that they should move there to avoid citations for sleeping in public in the other parts of town.

What this case in Santa Ana illustrates is the state’s continued war on the right of people to exist. Every time a group homeless community finds a safe spot, located out of the way, they are targeted for removal, or, in this barbaric case — imprisonment.

Earlier this month, the Free Thought Project reported on another war being waged against the homeless population in California. Known as ‘The Promised Land,’ a group of homeless people in Oakland sought to improve their situation by creating a camp that would foster sobriety and help people to get jobs. It was located out of the way, under a series of overpasses. They had running water, were growing their own food, and did not allow drug or alcohol use within the camp.

As cops and officials allowed the other heroin riddled encampments to continue, they targeted The Promised Land for destruction.

Diehl now seeks an injunction ordering the county to provide him with “reasonable means of leaving the riverbed and being able to retrieve his property.”

This "Fucking Bum" once worked 22 hours in the 60 foot deep hold of a ship from Brazil carrying hardwoods to Tampa Bay, chaining the logs up for the Crane to pull out (I'm guessing the Longshoremen didn't want any of that dangerous action?) After I took in my little Chit ! I got $28 fucking dollars after the child support pulled out what they think I owe them. Did it again the next day too, I really needed $28....Gas money for the house that had 4 wheels.

I could tell you about the ex-Wife who ran away with Joe Millionaire while I was working 16 hour days and about the bank account of our savings she Grabbed.

They had a fucking mansion with a Vineyard and a wine label so she said she was living at Mom's house to get the Welfare check for high-heels money.

I did not know, she never told a Judge to send me an invitation to defend my futile-by-possesion-of-cock, position.

Filed a False domestic violence report, told me later she had checked into a Women's shelter and used cosmetics to make the bruises in the pictures.

She wanted to get married because we had two kids and her Green card was probably fake. Hot Latina, not Mexican. She split, 10 weeks after the wedding !

Bitter as fuck, I could call ICE and she would be on a bus back to banana land in a month, I will never do that though, lowering myself to revenge.

I'm just a dull working Machine, it's all I know how to do. I would rather be thought a Fuckin Bum by Cunts like you and know that I Never was the Cunt.

Go and talk to some homeless people, they rarely bite. You might find out that a lot of them are Pretty Human and not Street Art to be observed from your sad small man Dodge Ram

I used to play chess with some homeless guys in the midwest as a college student. It was a good way to pass the time. There were some pretty good players and almost always excellent conversation.

All human life has worth and should not be tossed about casually. Not to sound too sappy, but this world is seriously lacking in human compassion for others.

Twee Surgeon's picture

It is certainly lacking in almost any kind of compassion or understanding, people are most often insulated from the harsh moneyless condition in the USA, Consider John Mc Cain for example, the guy would never have been in a Jet Combat Aircraft if his Dad and Grandad had not been Admirals in the USA Navy, would he ?

He has no experience of the real world, he sees it out of a Limo window or on CNN, these are our "Leaders". Clueless people.

Last time I was in Jail I did 41 days for FreeTravel (No Licence.) I had a 'Licence' but child support pulled it, so I can not go to work, makes sense, right ? There was no Alchohol or Drugs, Not my cup of Tea.

So me and this big fat Native American guy used to play Chess in Jail, he kicked my ass a lot and invited me to come to the Reservation, (after we get out) he has a house that Overlooks the Sea on the Rez and a Star Trek 4 dimensional Chess board, like Spock used to play.

There are a lot of Wasted Assets sitting around in Governmental nonsense Probation land.  God don't make no junk. What a Silly fucking condition we live in.

You must have never lived near Vancouver's east side. The bums there do bite, and stab, throw feces etc. Offering a helping hand will probably end up costing you a finger or two.

Twee Surgeon's picture

So Punch them in the mouth, get out of your car and kick a fucker in the nuts, you have as much right to be here as they do, are you willing to defend that reality ?

Go back a week later and track a shit tosser down, it is called Social responsibility, Balls the fuck up and grab a nut job, stop getting pissed on by anyone.

I will go to East side Vancouver and walk freely and feared because my creator gave me Balls and experience and good health, I can defend my position.

I will walk down that street any day of the week, with you, if you want to foot the bill. Shit tossers will not even look at me after the first scan.

BE THE SCARY GUY.

I guess I am trying to understand why people in this day and age want to marry and have kids.  I mean, before you stick your unprotected dick in, does anyone have the thought that maybe this will be a prison sentence being tied to a kid and a so called 'wife.'  It seems to me that things have progressed in technology today that there just will not be decent jobs for over half the population, yet people continue to pump out babies like there is no tomorrow.  The scary thing about the poor is that they feel totally entitled to being taken care of and having more babies for the few remaining working people to care for over future decades.

Oh well, I guess as usual, Mother Nature will have to sort this out with her usual arsenal of starvation, disease, and war.  So, I will say this, if you are paying 'child support' to some 'hoe', perhaps you should not have stuck the dick in.

MASTER OF UNIVERSE's picture

Frankly, given your denigration of women it is no wonder why the opportunist you had children with decided to avail herself with alternative opportunities that wealth can afford. If you could prostitute yourself for $28.00 USD for gas, it seems reasonable that 'hot Latina' [not Mexican] could do the same thing for a mansion that has a foundation instead of wheels to make it mobile. With two children to take care of until they are able to get out on their own it makes sense to ditch the 'dull working machine' for the next guy that can afford not to be a 'dull working machine'. At least you will know that your children have a roof over their head and know where their next meal is going to come from.

As Twee Surgeon so eloquently showed, being poor or unemployed is not always their fault.

The ability to work and make money attracks alot of efforts to remove the proceeds of that effort from you.

I think you need some more TP for your bunghole

They can go ahead and try. Plenty of well-armed folks will have some other ideas, such as "repurposing their politicians as 'lamp-post decorations'".

If you go to a Day Labor place in Anycity USA you will meet the homeless or damn near homeless. Most will be white with 15% African American 5% females.

If a lot of Illegal aliens are returned to their Homelands you will see rents go down and homeless camps Go Away.

The "Homeless" are not the guy on the cover of Tull's Aqualung in most cases,Average people and some druggies, some drunks, The mentally ill get a check and do not need to be looking for work at 5am. The Day Labor business (Labor Ready for example.) will keep 2/3rds of the daily fee, they have overhead, rent staff, insurance, workmans comp, all that stuff.

The lucky stiff that bagged a days work will walk away with $40 to $60 dollars at the end of the day after humping sheetrock or putting up scaffold all day while watch innumerable Mexicans come and go on the jobsite in $40,000 trucks and will be writing the La Raza victory song lyrics in the job site port-a-potty.

The dirty hands blue collar world has a grim report and a huge grudge is understandable.

When checking trash cans is profitable (wealth transfer vis-a-vis the 5 cent per can toll) then you get a more and more people sustained by the state. Another humdinger is that you can fish without a license off of any man-made structure. Now in Dana Point we have a society that lives not on but in the levy to the harbor. It's a mess.

Socratic Dog's picture

Oh dear, people fishing without a license.  What is the world coming to?

Fuck your fishing license.  And your hunting license.  And your driving license, for that matter.

A few years back Mr and I rented a cabin from a sheep farmer on the north island of New Zealand. When we were getting ready for bed our landlord knocked on our door with some raw milk from his cow and eggs from the hen coop. He wanted to make sure we had something to eat in the morning. Mr looked at me askance. Raw milk? He was impressed.

During the night we had trouble sleeping due to rustling sounds in the trees. I walked up to the farm house and explained the situation. Oh, it the Possums. He handed me a shotgun and whistled. A small dog came running over. Just whistle for my Possum dog tonight. He will show you the tree and then you can blow it away. I walked the gun back back to Mr. He gave me a " Seriously, I don't believe you" look.

The next day I was walking the grounds and commented to our landlord over the inordinate number of fruit trees on the farm. You must really love fruit! He beckons me to the farm house. Row after row of stills lined the porch. For hours I sampled his stash. Staggering back to guest house I told Mr about my adventures in peach liquor. He just stared at me incredulously.

The next day we decided to have a walk on the beach. I was confused because there were quite a few nude people there." Is this a nude beach?" I asked a lady walking her dog. She looked at me nonplussed. " Oh, those are Germans. That's what they do." " So, this isn't a nude beach?" " Well, if you want to take your clothes off, we don't care if you do or not."

Further along we met a group of men fishing. I asked how much it costs for a fishing license. " What's a fishing license?"

At the end of the week I was physically trying to drag Mr on a plane for home. Oh dear god Miffed don't send me back to that Hellhole. I've got some serious Karma to pay for that.

Miffed;-)

Excellent story, Miffed.

You can rest assured, the wealthy Silicon Valley denizens buying up farmland in NZ are taking care of all the problems you outline.  No more raw milk or naked Germans.  They're bringing real civilization to NZ.

"What's that"?  My exact question, the first time I came across the concept of a fishing license, on my arrival here from Australia.

God forbid, they might walk into the lobby of the St. Regis or the Ritz and stain the carpets. Then they'll probably walk up golden lantern in a massive zombie mob to eat the rich people at the gated communities.

Homeless in Dana, Long Beach, San Diego and the rest are a human tragedy. Try getting out of your Mercedes and learn their stories. They are people and many have had very tragic circumstances i.e. it could have been you looking longingly across the harbor at the people eating at El Torito laughing over table-side guacamole and margaritas.
