White House Bars CNN, NYT, Others From Media Briefing

Tyler Durden's picture

Just a few hours after Trump warned during his CPAC speech that "we're gonna do something about the media", he did just that after the White House barred a number of news outlets from covering Sean Spicer’s Q&A session on Friday afternoon.  Spicer decided to hold an off-camera “gaggle” with reporters inside his West Wing office instead of the traditional on-camera briefing in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room according to press reports.

Among the outlets not permitted to cover the gaggle were various news organizations that Trump has singled out in the past including CNN, The NYT, The Hill, Politico, BuzzFeed, the Daily Mail, BBC, the Los Angeles Times and the New York Daily News.

Several non mainstream outlets were allowed into Spicer’s office, including Breitbart, the Washington Times and One America News Network.  Several other major news organizations were also let in to cover the gaggle. That group included ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, Reuters and Bloomberg, however AP and Time have boycotted the event.

The White House Correspondents’ Association sharply criticized the decision.

“The WHCA board is protesting strongly against how today's gaggle is being handled by the White House,” Jeff Mason, the association’s president, said in a statement.  “We encourage the organizations that were allowed in to share the material with others in the press corps who were not,” he added. “The board will be discussing this further with White House staff.”

The New York Times' Peter Bakersaid he "can't remember any press secretary from Clinton, Bush or Obama canceling briefing and handpicking small group for gaggle."

A White House spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.

CNN's political reporter Sara Murray confirmed that CNN has been blocked from attending a White House press briefing this morning.

Some boycotted the event due to CNN's treatment.

While some - including recently accredited - Breitbart were allowed in...

This follows President Trump's earlier remarks At CPAC against fake news.

Here is Sean Spicer saying "You don't get to just yell out questions. We're going to raise our hands like big boys and girls."

* * *

This move by The White House is in sharp contrast to what Spicer said in December (via HuffPo):

Sean Spicer, the senior communications advisor for Donald Trump’s presidential transition team and a leading candidate to become White House press secretary, said Thursday night that the incoming president would “absolutely not” kick out news organizations in response to critical coverage.  This is an understandable fear given how the Trump campaign blacklisted nearly a dozen outlets through much of the election. In addition to denying some news organizations press credentials, the campaign sometimes placed unusual restrictions on journalists once inside.  During an interview with Fox News host Megyn Kelly, Spicer said Trump would not “bounce” reporters from the briefing room and “has a healthy belief in the First Amendment.”

...

"So if the New York Times does a scathing editorial on President Trump, they’re still going to let the New York Times reporters in the press briefing room and have access just the same as all the other news organizations,” Kelly asked.

“They’re in the [press] pool right now and they still have scathing editorials and pretty poor reporting,” Spicer responded.

“So yes, the answer to my question is yes?” she continued.

“Yes,” Spicer said. “Absolutely.”

We now expect most if not all of the presidential press corps to boycott all future White House media events, as the war between Trump and the media goes nuclear.

How to Interpret the news:

http://biblicisminstitute.wordpress.com/views-of-news/

AKB0048Fan's picture

Most of the Bible is a crock of shit that is NOT the word of God... according to Deuteronomy 18: 20-22.

It plainly says how to recognize that which is NOT the word of God: the prophecy must come true within the lifespan of the prophet. If the prophet dies without their prophecy having come true, then that is PROOF that it was not the word of God. It clearly says this. has spoken it presumptuously, presume to speak, means exactly the same thing; surely that prophet shall die.

Nevertheless, most of what follows Deuteronomy in the Bible is false prophesy from false prophets who died without their prophesies ever coming true, and Deuteronomy clearly states that it is not the word of God.

20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, surely that prophet shall die.’

21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’

22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken; the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously; thou shalt not be afraid of him.

I am merely posting an effective anti-spam measure that will likely put an end to the "Biblicism Institute" {LOL} spamming once and for all. He should be moving on to greener pastures soon.

Trump comes from real estate/construction and his dealing where with contractors, meaning, try to squeeze as much as you can. This type of strategy doesn’t work in government very well, if at all. Stirring things up in government leads to chaos, because there are too many parties involved. Also, foreigners leaders have already enough chaos within their domains. The last thing they need is too be bullied around.

Small contractors don’t know how to defend themselves. Power does.

ich1baN's picture

Then you don't understand how we got ourselves into $20 trillion in debt... newsflash what we've tried the last 60+ years isn't going to be the paragon of economic prosperity... in reality what trump is doing is actually ingenious,it's about time government operators and contractors start thinking about cost instead of endless malfeasance and waste at the expense of taxpayers who bear the cost of their corruption.

Theosebes Goodfellow's picture

~"...in reality what trump is doing is actually ingenious,..."~

The White House Correspondents’ Association can go screw themselves. They're really missing the beauty of what Trump has just done. Since the media that was left out was going to write negative shit about the Trump administration anyway, he just cut them to the chase.

Now they can go and write their caca, devoid of facts, (they would have anyway), and everyone saves time. Except Time. Who will bitch and moan and now keep Trump from being their "Man of the Year" even though he is.

In all seriousness, you could not make this shit up if you tried. My only question is did WaPo make the cut? Them bastards skewer him mercilessly and he still gives them a pass. They'd be the first ones I'd hang out to dry.

Chaos?

Chaos is ObamaCare. Chaos is Libya & Syria. Chaos is not enforcing existing immigration law. Chaos is destroying the coal industry. And he isn't "bullying" any foreign leader. Telling them STRAIGHT UP how he's going to act toward them is not bullying, its called HONESTY Escrava.

I'm a small contractor and you're full of shit.  If one of my customers tries to "bully" me, I tell them to stick it and raise the price.  My customers don't do that though because they know I get shit done.  We have mutual respect.  The media DOES NOT respect Trump and he should keep kicking them in the nuts until they show some respect for the office of president at the very least.  They don't respect the office unless their guy is in...

Hooter Shaker, small professional contractor, is totally right. Anybody who is doing any job to the best of their ability does not have to take any crap from anybody. Any new, especially elected, leader deserves respect in the first phases. Later respect has to be earned. The media has shown no respect at all for Trump or his wife or his daughter or his son from day 1 of his historic campaign.  A lot of the media don't need to be at any briefings because they are not paying attention to him. It is clear that they never even listened to his campaign promises because all he is doing now is keeping them and they are so shocked and appalled. There are no suprises thus far, so why all the uproar? They just keep repeating and repeating that Trump is a racist, woman hating, anti-Muslim, homophobic, mentally ill Putin loving Hilter. That was yesterday's "news" and we are bored with it.

Yes, there needs to be less government. As a byproduct there won't be as many "parties involved" therefore less chaos.

So, Isaura, I hear you are from the Loser Socialist Nation of Brazil?
-And you have not bothered or desired to become a US citizen?

-And you have the audacity to criticize our President, & whine & complain about OUR Nation?
No nation is perfect indeed, so if you don't like it here,(as you have made obvious through your comments), & you are not a Citizen; get the fuck out, you unappreciative non-citizen!

Go back to Brazil & do your whining & complaining there, before you are duly deported; as you should be, since you do not apparently like it here enough to want to be a US citizen; then you can go exercise your 'free speech' as a Citizen of Brazil!

Escrava Isaura's picture

Ohh boy.

One: I have a blue passport.

Two: I am a contractor. I hate hourly wage, its rules, and its authorities.

Three: I am a agnostic liberal, meaning, I doubt the capacity of most humans to grasp reality outside of their professional domains. Biologists believe self-deception is built in the human genes so we can ignore life’s harsh realities. It came before language. Women does self-deception emotionally. Men, offensively, by acting up. And you can clearly see these self-deception genes acting up right here, blogging, even that blogging gives you the space/time to reflect, comparing within a social gathering, where the more self-deceptive you are, the more accepted you will be by that specific crowd.

Fourth: I want Trump to succeed, even that I don’t like his tax and healthcare policies. I welcome Trump’s shooting from the hips instead of Obama’s academic talk. The problem with Trump is that he lies, change what he said, and/or exaggerate thus giving ammunition for the critics to come after him. I also hope that Trump doesn’t listen to the libertarians and act up more like Reagan, meaning, deficits don’t matter.

ich1baN's picture

There's a difference between being pro America of the kind that will actually benefit the world and the type who on the surfaces professes to be for America through globalism and cultural Marxism that inevitably will lead to the destruction of the world... the kind you profess will lead to catastrophic ruin. Look no further than exhibit A, Brazil... whatever you call the sweaty pestilence infested event, Carnival, is a reflection of a culture in terminal moral and economic decline. Make no mistake, if we follow the latter path, America is headed there too. On the one hand this is supposed to be an event of celebration but in reality there is immense chaos lurking underneath the surface with cops and gangs butchering and murdering each other, while party goers are oblivious amongst the mass drunken festival with elderly women as old as 90 dressed in bizarre decor that only someone as young as 18 would wear and men dressed in drag... i can only hope the world takes notice of how not to conduct its affairs in order to learn from the situation.

The irony is that you are throwing a stone in a glass house... you condemn the situation at hand without looking introspectively into the deeper game being played, either Trump and America wins bc globalism and cultural Marxism loses (and the world benefits in essence) or the end game of globalism wins and we're all slaves to the 1% of 1% (including you in Brazil)... the trench of this war is the billionaire corporatist owned MSM and the 2nd amendment, as well as an educated electorate that respects the precepts found in our founding fathers wisdom such as Alexander Hamilton's premonition on immigration that if allowed to march on indiscriminately, we will have accepted a Trojan Horse.

Why yes, yes he is ... on the other hand ..

"We now expect most if not all of the presidential press corps to boycott all future White House media events, as the war between Trump and the media goes nuclear."

See the thing is, there is no, has been no, real reporting of "the news." At least not via the controlled MSM, in my lifetime, and it has "progressively" gotten worse , over these many years .. dystopian ..

So tell me, what advantage is there to mass brain washing a populace unless the only aim, was to deceive? How many corporations control "the news"? Whose agenda?

and so I say, .. So be it .

edit;   .." ..I read the Washington Post and the New York Times every day, and I think .... " Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Supreme Court Justice, United States of Homeland ...

Reading the Washington Post, and the New York Times, every day, is the exact polar opposite of thinking. It is indoctrination and deception, and is dangerous because it allows many people to actually believe they are, "thinking." I say thinking for whom, by whom, to what end, whose "agenda?" The thought leaders and shareholders of fortress America?

Fuck, them ..

Not bizarre.  The Podesta emails clearly showed Israeli officials demanding, and quickly receiving, assurances from the Clinton campaign that none of 'those two-state solution people' (Sanders or so-called pro-Palestinian) would be allowed anywhere near the State Department.

Now Alan Dershowitz issues a hatchet piece saying he and all his Israel loving friends will QUIT THE PARTY if Ellison is elected DNC chair.

Hollywood is the shitiest and the most self-promoting industry. I lived in LA and half of my fair-weatehr friends were big ass producers, actors and models.

Actors are the most pathetic (and often mentally damaged) fuckers out there - all of them that I have met and spent a lot of time with  (and some where famous) woudl do ANYTHING for any role. The most desparate bunch of slimey characters I have ever seen. THey would lick any kike producer's fat ugly ass (or any other part of their body no matter how ugly/fat/inbred)  just to get any role - and I think all of them woudl do it gladly.

Psychopath producers I have met (born with a silver sppon in their mouth apart from one of them) understand the desparation and the oportunity they have to screw over the desparate (equally psychopathic) actors - so the way they use and abuse each other is a sight to behold. Like a snake pit.

Out of a few of the most profitable Hollywood producers / directors  I have met none really happy and/or confident (proud of him/herself).  Maybe Guy Richie is an exception. The actors and most of these producers are unhappy, drug addicts, have no real friends or understanding of art/value. They think like accountants and/or have OCD. They got where they are through contacts. They know they have money and fame - so they get angry because they lack happiness and friends - they don't understand you have to be a decent person to deserve good friendship and loyalty. They are like fake news - most things about them are fake. Thsi often includes their botoxed faces

It's really a pathetic , loser shit industry. I told my niece I woudl rather she becomes a prostitute than an actress - it's a much more honorable profession

BarkingCat's picture

Given the public knowledge of what happens in Hollywood, it is astounding that that anyone holds them in high esteem.

We all heard of the casting couch.

How many of these people have been through multiple rehabs for drugs and alcohol??

Also there were enough stories about young people being abused by those with power in Hollywood.

None of these actors, who claim to be such stalwarts for the disadvantaged,  use their fame to help the abused.

Fucking scumbags.
