Monsanto Colluded With EPA, Was Unable To Prove Roundup Does Not Cause Cancer, Unsealed Court Docs Reveal

Tyler Durden's picture

If we had a dime for every kooky, left-wing theory we've heard alleging some vast corporate conspiracy to exploit the treasures of the earth, destroy the environment and poison people with unknown carcinogens all while buying off politicians to cover their tracks, we would be rich.  The problem, of course, is that sometimes the kooky conspiracy theories prove to be completely accurate.

Lets take the case of the $60 billion ag-chemicals powerhouse, Monsanto,  and their controversial herbicide, Roundup as an example.  For those who aren't familiar, Roundup Ready is Monsanto’s blockbuster weedkiller, credited with transforming U.S. agriculture, with a majority of farm production now using genetically modified seeds resistant to the chemical.

For years the company has assured farmers that their weed killing product was absolutely safe to use.  As proof, Monsanto touted the approval of the chemical by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

That said, newly unsealed court documents released earlier today seemingly reveal a startling effort on the part of both Monsanto and the EPA to work in concert to kill and/or discredit independent, albeit inconvenient, cancer research conducted by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)....more on this later.

But, before we get into the competing studies, here is a brief look at the 'extensive' work that Monsanto and the EPA did prior to originally declaring Roundup safe for use (hint: not much).  As the excerpt below reveals, the EPA effectively declared Roundup safe for use without even conducting tests on the actual formulation, but instead relying on industry research on just one of the product's active ingredients.

"EPA's minimal standards do not require human health data submissions related to the formulated product - here, Roundup.  Instead, EPA regulations require only studies and data that relate to the active ingredient, which in the case of Roundup is glyphosate.  As a result, the body of scientific literature EPA has reviewed is not only primarily provided by the industry, but it also only considers one part of the chemical ingredients that make up Roundup."

Meanwhile, if that's not enough for you, Donna Farmer, Monsanto's lead toxicologist, even admitted in her deposition that she "cannot say that Roundup does not cause cancer" because "[w]e [Monsanto] have not done the carcinogenicity studies with Roundup."

And just in case you're the super skeptical type, here is Farmer's actual email, from back in 2009, which seems pretty clear:

"you cannot say that Roundup does not cause cancer..we have not done carcinogenicity studies with "Roundup".

And while the revelations above are quite damning by themselves, this is where things get really interesting.

In early 2015, once it became clear that the World Health Organization's IARC was working on their own independent study of Roundup, Monsanto immediately launched their own efforts to preemptively discredit any results that might be deemed 'inconvenient'.

That said, Monsanto, the $60 billion behemoth, couldn't possibly afford the $250,000 bill that would come with conducting a legitimate scientific study led by accredited scientists.  Instead, they decided to "ghost-write" key sections of their report themselves and plotted to then have the independent scientists just "sign their names so to speak."

"A less expensive/more palatable approach might be to involve experts only for the areas of contention, epidemiology and possibly MOA (depending on what comes out of the IARC meeting), and we ghost-write the Exposure Tox & Genetox sections...but we would be keeping the cost down by us doing the writing and they would just edit & sign their names so to speak."

Finally, when all else fails, you call in those "special favors" in Washington D.C. that you've paid handsomely for over the years.

And that's where Jess Rowland, the EPA's Deputy Division Director for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention and chair of the Agency's Cancer Assessment Review Committee, comes in to assure you that he's fully exploiting his role as the "chair of the CARC" to kill any potentially damaging research..."if I can kill this I should get a medal."

All of which begs the question of whether the D.C. swamp is just too large to be drained.

dead grass rhizomes make some of the best soil.    they take up all the nutrients which is why they say to keep grass away from young trees.   and the soil microbes love that stuff.

been doing a similar method to yours (but with wood chips) with similar success.  good thing about wood chips is that any errant growth can be pulled quite easily.   it's a process, but the soil created is well worth the effort.

I live right next to a soy field in Columbus, IN.

That farmer must not use it because the soy bettles are thick as midnight.

They harvest pretty late here, like first week of Nov. I think they just let it dry up on its own. Was pretty gradual.

Round Up doesn't kill beetles, or Round Up Ready soys. It would be useless to spray them to make them dry faster in the fall with Round Up.

Dude, you think that's bad?

I took a train from Zhengzhou, Henan, Central China to Shanghai in January to meet a Zerohedge friend. I could have flown but I wanted to see how bad the pollution was.

It spread like a thick blanket upon the land; enveloping everything, to the point that visibility was 50-100 meters. This blanket of toxic smog was hundreds of miles in diameter.

I used to think the Collapse we'll soon experience was to be civilizational; and then late last year I realized it was ultimately a collapse of the ecological system. That's why I took the train.

There'll be no recovery, I just hope Yellen can hold it together for another year or two.

Since Monsanto knows what these things will do, they don't publicly do the studies.  Studies are funded via the "petty cash" box through universities whose tenured professors insure that no one knows what is being studied.  Many products are tested overseas where the findings are supressed. Look at a lot of the sugar cane workers in Central America who are dying from liver diseases.

So you're saying that I might have to stop putting RoundUp in my coffee?

You don't need to put it in your coffee. The Global Extermenists already did.

BTW - Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Round-up, is the active ingredient in Agent Orange.

As in, The House of Orange, The Royal Dutch Family, (Royal Dutch Shell)

Prince Bernhard (Of The House of Orange), a former NAZI S/S officer was not coincidentally one of the two founders of the Bilderberg Group.

And forgot to mention... all the major vaccines have been found to be spiked with live cancer viruses. The original Salk Vaccine alone has killed 25 million people according to the U.S. gov (Which is a total low-ball number/lie) and people continue to die at a rate of 1 1/2 million per year from that Simian cancer virus spiked vaccine alone. The CDC and the American Cancer Society say they 'didn't know' it was contaminated, continuing for almost 30 years to soft kill the American population with this one silent weapon. The Round-up is just another component of the Globalist sterilization/soft kill program to contaminate the food and water supply. And of course most all the municipal drinking water is poisoned... Obama's former Science Adviser, John P. Holdren is one of the wheels in the global extermination program.

You and banana hand are unscientific turds. The main ingredient is H2o, second is SALT. Just get some 47 cent a tub  salt from the save-a-lot and do your own experiments if you don't believe me! The other stuff they put in there is seriously dangerous. Organophoshates may sound organic but they are not. They connect to T cell receptors and disrupt the electrical currents in your body causing permanent damage in most cases. They go through your skin like paint thinner. First attack is the nervous system and the lungs/stomach. Mustard gas,VX,aldicarb, And atrizine are in the group, but the one in roundup causes males to become females or infertile. Organophosphates have no political boundaries when spread evenly.

So if the surfactants help the disolved glyphosate penetrate and be absorbed, for sure, you would only want to test glyphosate by itself.  Criminal.

Thanks for Monsanto's defense of glyphosate!  The fox will always defend stealing chickens, no?  Glyphosate is a carcinogen and it has been found to be widely present in commercially prepared foods not grown organically.  Glyphosate is also suspected to attack good gut bacteria, which can lead to reduced immunity.   Anyone who trusts anything coming from Monsanto is crazy.

GardenWeasel's picture

While the "inert" ingredients are known to be harmful,  glyphosate is the key bit. It is extremely water soluble, it goes wherever water goes. If it can't penetrate the leaves, it will enter through the roots. It is now so ubiquitous that it can be detected in rain water, and even in air samples in New Orleans.   Glyphosate blocks the "Shikimate pathway", a process in plants, bacteria and fungi that produces among other things tryptophan, which the body cannot produce, necessary for the production of serotonin. 89-90% of serotonin is produced in the intestines by bacteria and fungi.  Glyphosate kills these microorganisms and reduces the amount of tryptophan and thus serotonin.  The affects?   From WebMD:

"As a neurotransmitter, serotonin helps to relay messages from one area of the brain to another. Because of the widespread distribution of its cells, it is believed to influence a variety of psychological and other body functions. Of the approximately 40 million brain cells, most are influenced either directly or indirectly by serotonin. This includes brain cells related to mood, sexual desire and function, appetite, sleep, memory and learning, temperature regulation, and some social behavior.

In terms of our body function, serotonin can also affect the functioning of our cardiovascular system, muscles, and various elements in the endocrine system. Researchers have also found evidence that serotonin may play a role in regulating milk production in the breast, and that a defect within the serotonin network may be one underlying cause of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome)."

The epidemic of depression, sleep disorders, learning problems and plain old pyschopaths in the USA since the mid 90s  is no coincidence. That is when they started spraying Roundup all over the place.  They now spray 2.2 Billion KGs per year.   It also causes leaky gut, gluten ssensitivity, and food allergies, but I'll leave that for later.

Don't eat poisoned food, folks.

These 4 are the worst...they suck it up...and you eat it.  And don't say you "Don't Care".  You should.  My father died of Cancer...and I wish I would have read this book before he died...  Please grab the book Never Fear Cancer Again written by some guys that studied why some communities around the world have a cancer rate of ZERO...and almost everyone in the US will die of it.  Great book. Note: I gain nothing by showing you may save your life.  Isn't $9.00 worth it? This book will change your life.

There are people that say chaga fungus (grows on birch trees) is a cure for cancer. And I still remember this woman who said spruce gum was an old folk remedy:

Is it true? I don't know, but I'd trust a random Indian elder over most doctors and their 'treat the symptoms, would you like an SSRI?' brainwashing. Chewed some sruce gum on my hike today. It isn't a sweet taste that you get with the corporate chemical gum, but it was the original chewing gum.

Same here. My wife is doing anti-inflammatory research with various foods - it'd be interesting to see if the author is finding the same conclusions.

Also from her research - eat plants/spices with deep colors. Blueberries, turmeric, paprika, red (really purple) onions, etc. I tried doing that and cutting out Red Bull this year - lots of ongoing problems from the last two years have largely vanished.

Most cancers can be rid of by eliminating unnecessary sugars(carbs are sugars) and replacing with lots of garlic. Unfortunately cancers can be caused by blocked lymphatics and to make it really short, NEEM is a cure all, but hard to get in USA, and no directions because no doctors are allowed to even recommend it.

I've added Frankincense oil to my diet. A couple of drops a day, up to four a day if I feel I might be coming down with something, under the tongue.

I got it for my brother's pancreatic cancer, but too late. He died Jan 2. He was 55. And I miss him.

I wish I would've known about Frankincense oil earlier, when he was first diagnosed.

Our destruction of the Natural System is due to Capitalism.
