"Relief For Europe": Wall Street Analysts React To The Dutch Election

Tyler Durden's picture

While some were worried about an "unexpected outcome" from yesterday's Dutch general election, in the end the country's center-right Prime Minister Mark Rutte managed to fight off the challenge of anti-Islam, anti-EU rival Geert Wilders to score an election victory that was hailed across Europe on Thursday by governments facing a rising wave of nationalism.

Rutte received congratulations from European leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who faces a strong Social Democrat challenge in a September election and has shed some support to an anti-immigration party, Alternative for Germany, which is set to enter the federal parliament for the first time. Merkel told Rutte: "I look forward to continuing our good cooperation as friends, neighbors, Europeans," her spokesman said. While Rutte won fewer seats than in the last parliament, he still declared it an "evening in which the Netherlands, after Brexit, after the American elections, said 'stop' to the wrong kind of populism."

The vote result was a disappointment for Wilders, who had led in opinion polls until late in the campaign and had hoped to pull off an anti-establishment triumph in the first of three key elections in the European Union this year.

The market reaction reflected that accordingly, with the euro climbing to highest in more than a month, the Euro Stoxx 600 index up 0.7% at 377.6, DAX just shy of all time highs, and the France-Germany 10-year bond yield spread sliding as low as 59 bps.  Furthermore, as noted earlier, the Le Pen win probability implied from betting odds fell to 29% following the election outcome:

The result was also a major relief to Wall Street analyst, as demonstrated by the following excerpts

Olaf Van Den Heuvel, chief investment strategist at Aegon Asset Management, in an interview on Bloomberg TV

  • “It’s a good outcome for the Netherlands, it’s a good outcome for Europe. It’s a victory for the economy. I think in the end that shifted the election result.”
  • Says French elections “may still haunt” due to higher unemployment, weaker economy; Aegon likely to remain “relatively cautious” in positioning across Europe

Bruno Colmant, head of macro research at Degroof Petercam, by phone

  • “This is very good news for the euro zone. The level of market stress just dropped, and it sends a pretty strong message to foreign investors: you can now focus on the macro-economic indicators.”
  • Says should pave the way for the ECB to slowly start to unwind quantitative easing and normalize policy, without having to cope with disruptive political events

Stephane Barbier de la Serre, strategist at Makor Capital Markets in Geneva, by phone

  • Election results are supportive for European assets
  • Shows that crucially, there is just no way Geert Wilder’s Freedom Party could enter some kind of coalition; however, Dutch political landscape more fragmented, possibly more than ever in its history which may complicate formation of a new coalition
  • In terms of impact on French election: we could say results may sap Le Pen’s ambitions, but difficult to extrapolate trends between two very different countries: French GDP growth is currently more or less half the Dutch one while unemployment is twice as high
  • Maintains conviction that Le Pen currently has no chance whatsoever to become the next French president

Stephane Ekolo, chief European strategist at Market Securities, by phone

  • “It’s a big relief for markets, and this will prompt U.S. and U.K. investors to review their forecasts about the French presidential election. It’s positive for European assets, but without euphoria. It’s ‘back to business’ and we can focus on fundamentals and central banks again.”

Simon Wells, chief European economist, at HSBC, in note

  • “We always viewed the Dutch election as sending a signal about a bigger European political event –- the French presidential election”
  • Markets may interpret the Dutch result as an indication that the wave of populism sweeping across Europe is no longer rising
  • “In this case, we also think it would restore some faith in political punditry and polling, since there would have been no big upset relative to the latest opinion polls”

If you like your immigrant nation EU, you can now keep your immigrant nation EU.

Good luck with that, seems to be working out brilliantly.

Lore's picture

I don't believe it. The Dutch electorate cannot possibly be so blind.

EuroPox's picture

I look at the results and I see a collapse of support for Rutte and for the socialists - their combined share of the vote was over 50% in 2012 and is now down to about 27%!

Nobody expected Wilders to 'win'; with the Dutch system you always get a coalition and all the others have said he will never be allowed into a coalition.  Let them try and put any sort of coalition together and see what a mess it is!

What's not to like - and don't be fooled by the spin of the MSM, this result will cause real problems (the greens got nearly 10%) and I don't think Wilders will be making it easy for them...

Lore's picture

THANKS for lending clarity. I avoid controlled media ordinarily, but family turned on the shitbox last night...

EuroPox's picture

If you look at the results, it is likely that there will be 13 parties in the Dutch parliament - including a muslim-migrant party on 2 or 3%.  The Greens are basically far left commies - so how is Rutte supposed to put a new coalition together?  If you exclude Wilders and the Greens, you need over 50% from the remaining 75% (ish) available ... from 10 parties!  Not the basis of a stable government you would have thought.

"we can focus on fundamentals and central banks again.”

Yeah right. When did fundamentals count for anything since 2008 and QE?

greenskeeper carl's picture

That was my thought as well, Phil. In other words, the can has been kicked, and we can go right back to ignoring the problems that desperately need to get addressed so they can build up for a couple more years until they are no longer able to ignore them, at which time the pols will throw their hands up in the air and say 'no one could have seen this coming'.

Wilders gains 7 seats while Rutte loses 10 after a globalist full out effort.

What is not to like about the result?  Feels good man.

The Dutch Electorate is furious!!!! EVERYWHERE people talk about the fraudulent outcome. There are reports of voter booth committee members that have noticed anomalies! Containers with ballots that were not opened and validated, that magically appeared.

This is how the massive fraud here has been committed: Through "Magical Additions": Blank ballots filled out and added to the pool post-closure of a voting booth. Our ballots had NO sequence identification AT ALL!

NOTEWORTHY: NEVER we've had a shortage of ballots! In many voter districts, additional ballots had to be printed because of shortages, some booths remaining open for voting the entire evening up till midnight!!

The voter turnout was massively more than it has ever been. This is the reason that they ran out of ballots in a good number of places! They never anticipated the turnout to be what it is, thinking there would be enough ballots left to use for the "Magical Additions". This is why more ballots needed to be printed.

Nearly the entire country voted ANYTHING but the VVD, the fraudulent winning party. It's this same party whose members had and have been under investigation for pedophilia; being part of the global ring. One such politician is Joris Demmink that's known to have been involved with pedophilia. The satanic cabal is running RAMPANT here. There is NO conceivable way this party should have  won. NONE. NONE at all.

The Dutch people have been duped and butt-fucked HARD. (God) Help us.

the Dutch helped to defeat Hitler. Now they are helping to defeat themselves. Hitler and the fascists in general were defending traditional European values and nationalism. The jews now own Europe and America; they instinctively hate everyone but thenselves and ruin everything for everyone but themselves. Until we disappear them, nothing will improve.

ArtificalDuality's picture

Thing with Jews, just as with Islam is that there are different schools. There are legitimates and there are imposters. America and Europe have been conquered by illusionists and deceptionists that have their origins in the 8th century, the Khazar region, now Ukraine.

Here a report about ancestry DNA research:

And here a thorough rundown of the satanic, babylonic Khazar mobsters:

That gave us a Europe riddeled with the occult:

This is the power clan whose members appear in tight suits as our politicians and corporate (big) wigs and own pretty much the entire Western world and are out to get the rest of the world. Where ordinary people are used as no more than mere 'batteries' to their system of deception.

This is what must be stopped and fully exposed. What they show to the public is not what they are behind the scenes.

ArtificalDuality's picture

A Khazari's favourite tactic, that they exploit these days, most notably enabled through the design and set up of WW II is this:

Any verbal call-out on any of their members for their individual evil deeds is immediately dispersed amongst 16 million people through the "Anti-Semite!" meme. These folk will not take critizism aimed at their individual beings and will attempt to use the "group-binder" dispersal tactic.

This in fact is a display of committing a mind crime; involving 16 million people in an attempt to divert attention from the individual committing wrongdoings.

Using the "anti-semite" meme in this way is a fallacy as these call-outs are not aimed at the entire omnious group, but at individuals instead. And in fact, this way you can recognize their occult Khazari members.

Soros for one likes doing it. They commit mind crimes, and then follow up with yet another mind crime in an attempt to defend theirselves. There would be plenty Jews that'd be like "fuck speak for yourself!". But, this is how these Khazari deceptionists use the "Anti-Semite" meme as a mental body armor to thwart any critizism on individual committed (mind) crimes.

Using this argumentation you can stop these deceptionists using these mental defense tactics right in their tracks.

ArtificalDuality's picture

Oh look: Down voting from Khazari's shittin' bricks. Their gig is up. Days numbered.

My cousin voted for Geert sums it up most of the Dutch are stupid fucks over here. Slitting their own throats with jobs, imigration, rapefugees and Islamic crazies.

Mroex's picture

FUCKING greedy stupid scumbags. So Europe suffers an islamic invasion, rape , arson and yes murders committed by these "refeusegees" is off the chart. The white Europeans are being pushed out and bred out of existance and these filthy cocksuckers can only think about protecting their precious EU, relieved that Holland will not be having any sort of "Brexit" type leader

mily's picture

As you can see media-applied anaesthetic works really well

mily's picture

Talk to your friends in big cities and you won't belive how brain washed IYI are

Ghordius's picture

"So Europe suffers an islamic invasion..."

and? nobody enters a sovereign country that is member of the EU club from any islamic country because of EU laws

yes, Wilders is against immigration *and* against the EU, but it's two different national issues, in the Netherlands and any other EU member

what is really holding up millions of refugees in Turkey? a deal. brokered by Merkel, paid by... you know who?

meanwhile... all that blathering in the media, while Hungary's Orban has finished his fence and set up his camps, and there is only *talk* about fines while the Eastern members aren't taking up any refugee quotas

seriously, ZH was very weak on facts about anything european when I joined this fray, and got incrementally more lunatic since then

a factoid for you: 90% of Europeans (aka White Christians for some, though that's wrong on many levels) live... in Europe, where they are... 90% of the population of Europe

the US... well, that's different. and debatable. but this UK/US media "thing" about Brexit/Trump being a kind of revolution spreading elsewhere was only good for one purpose: more clicks

take Brexit: it won't change the British immigration laws for non-Europeans into the UK, because... it was always British laws governing that

so bloody stop conflating matters at a kindergarten level

artichoke's picture

You need to put in a regime in Greece that stops them, rather than relying on Turkey's good will.  You had one, then you arranged for it to be overthrown and now Greece is open.

You protected against African invasion by controlling Libya.  Then you cooperated in taking out Gaddafi.

Goodbye western Europe, you did it to yourselves.  We the USA helped too, but we've finally gotten rid of the bad presidents -- and you should welcome our help now and even beg for it, but you won't do it in time.

Ghordius's picture

Tsipras isn't the Greek Prime Minister anymore? his coalition isn't a far Left coalition that is extremely... welcoming anymore? that's news to me

Libya? you mean one of the dozen countries destabilized... by us? do I get Freedom Fries as a side-dish to that?

yes. I see your help. I see you helping the KSA... in Yemen

give me a break, will you?

BarkingCat's picture

Libya was mostly attacked by EU members with US only providing minor support.

It was French and Britsh planes doing the bombing raids on Khadafi's forces snd serving as rebels' air force.  Then you had Italians involved and even Norwegians.

Consensus: We can now focus on continuing to assfuck the middle class.

Ghordius's picture

check the Gini Coefficent for that, and compare countries

I don't think so, Dutch election is a blow to populism, however, its also a blow to USD, Euro raising against dollar, remember, USD is now the risk indictor. I think this is the turnning point.

If I was the EU I'd slam through a resolution real quick saying that individual European countries will no longer have any sovereignty above the level of trash collection- it's all just one Europe under the EU, ruled out of Brussels from here out.  When you're a globalist, you gotta make the most out of every win.  The markets would be up by thousands of points the next morning.

GreatUncle's picture

"that individual European countries will no longer have any sovereignty above the level of trash collection"

2 way to lose sovereignty the people sign it over, that's a referendum or crushed by war.

After that you can end up with decades or centuries of revolt and protest.

Ghordius's picture

the EU has an all-powerful steering committee called EU Council, which is the only body that has the right to propose anything

who sits there? the national goverments. our national ministers, like Schäuble, the German FinMin, like Merkel and May and Rutte, etc. etc.

now, WHY would anybody in that "Summit" (as the English-speaking press often calls them) want to propose anything like that?

get real. the EU is a club of sovereigns. it's purpose is cooperation among them. pooling and sharing is NOT the same as giving up sovereignty

reality. try it

EuroPox's picture

The EU Council is indeed comprised of the heads of governement but the daily decision making body is COREPER  - the Committee of Permanent Representatives, which meets at least once a week.  In addition to the heads of the member states' missions to Brussels, COREPER has representatives of the US government at its meetings - but that is NEVER mentioned in the official minutes.  COREPER is the decision making body and (for example) has decided on every renewal of EU sanctions againt Russia - the EU parliament does not even get a vote on it!  It is through COREPER that the US exerts its 'influence' on the EU.

PS your downvote is not from me.

yogibear's picture

So the globalist invasion of Europe continues.

The libtard EU is out to destroy itself and any nationalism. Maybe the Swedes or Dutch can make their countries Mecca #2.

Just a matter of time before the Islamic extremist start pushing gays off of building rooftops.

Nike is even pushing Islamic clothes. Maybe even normalizing the complete covering of woman's faces and men beating of women according to  sharia law.

Does Islam allow a man to hit his wife?

"Yes, but only if she doesn't do as he asks. The beating must stop if the woman complies with her husband's demands. Behind verbal abuse and abandonment, beating is intended as last resort solution to coerce submission."

NobodyNowhere's picture

Man can beat wife if she refuses to come to bed.  As per the 'holy' scriptures.

Mroex's picture

Yogi, you struck chord for me, I have been noticing more and more trendy female SJWs wearing scarves round their head in a very definitive muslin style. These scarves also have the same patterns and coloring you see the real muzzie skanks wear. FUCK NIKE, Thanks for letting me know I was just not projecting or imagining what I see.

Wilders was high on rhetoric but short on policy. To his credit he realized that the EU is defunct and wanted to the Netherlands to follow Brexit.

Re Brexit

There is a trade imbalance in favour of the European Union so it is in the interest of the EU to make amicable arrangements with the United Kingdom. What's more, the UK can do its own trade deals on a one-to-one basis instead of having the EU to deal 27 member states before it makes a trade deal.

The UK will opt for a hard Brexit especially when one country (or part of a country in Belgium) can stall negotiations for so long. Spain could act in a similar fashion over Gibraltar and has the cheek to maintain its Gibraltar sovereignty claim. Claim?

The Dutch people have chosen just like Greece and their call to make.

Economically the Dutch have supported keeping Greece in the position they are in and it is not going to improve anytime soon.

If Amsterdam hasn't had Muzzie riots downtown then the joy jumping jubilation is misplaced in extrapolating the results to France. Just more hopium for the opium crowd. Parisians have been riot rocked and they don't tolerate interruptions to their sedate lifestyle. I have no idea about Ms Marine but neither do the experts because they are all liars, can't even believe their own colleagues' projections.

The people of Europe will topple it all eventually and it will all continue downhill resulting in a deeper hole to escape. I will not be surprised to learn that Soros voting machines played a part in the results and I know exactly nothing except the character of the scum Cabal. That's enough.

Long term they will come to regret this vote.In ten years you won't recognize Europe. They're whistling past the grave yard.

In order to build a "one world government," the Elites must replace the current governments. One way to do that is to remove the "nationalist" belief structure by an influx of refugees who refuse to assimilate. Plus, the refugee crisis threatens security, which the globalists will promise to resolve. Its a two-pronged attack.

Wake up World. You are only a couple of decision points away from an irreversible future that takes choice away from you forever.

Chose wisely.

The western Europeans deserve what they will get from the muslims, a huge loss of tourism revenues and civil wars are on the menue.

By the time they realize what they have done, it will be too late, their cities will be controled by muslims like London and paris.

artichoke's picture

Western Europe was an aberration of about 100 years and it appears it's coming to a close with a new Muslim conquest.  The cultural centers were always in the east historically, and the eastern countries remain with their heads screwed on straight.  They will not fall to the Muslims.

JoeTurner's picture

Agreed. A reverse iron curtain is emerging where eastern europe will be free and prosperous and western europe will be a totalitarian caliphate...

numapepi's picture

Certainly not the way Europe has. I grant you that.

Once Europe is fully in the hands of the Muslims the Caliphate that will follow will have an arsenal of nuclear weapons. They might have a philosophy that precludes them ever inventing A Bombs themselves, but they will be only too happy to use them, to follow their ideology and conquer the rest of the world.
