Trump Warns Germany "Owes Vast Sums To US... Must Be Paid For Defense"

Tyler Durden's picture

Amid #NoHandshakeGate and the "we have something in common" moment, yesterday's meeting between President Trump and German Chancellor Merkel was at best cordial, judging by the G-20 discussions, and this latest tweet from Trump...

Of course this is not the first time he has pointed this out... NATO, he said, “has problems.”

“[NATO] is obsolete, first because it was designed many, many years ago,” Bild quoted Trump as saying about the trans-Atlantic military alliance. “Secondly, countries aren’t paying what they should” and NATO “didn’t deal with terrorism.”

While those comments expanded on doubts Trump raised about the North Atlantic Treaty Organization during his campaign, he reserved some of his most dismissive remarks for the EU and Merkel, whose open-border refugee policy he called a “catastrophic mistake.”

FACT CHECK: Trump is 100% Correct - Germany has been under-funding its defense budget for years... NATO's 28-member countries committed in 2014 to spending 2 percent of their gross domestic product on defense within a decade. But only the U.S. and four other members of the post-World War II military coalition are meeting the standard, Pence said.

Failure to meet the commitment, he said, "erodes the very foundation of our alliance."

"Let me be clear on this point: The president of the United States expects our allies to keep their word, to fulfill this commitment and, for most, that means the time has come to do more," Pence said.

More awkward looks to come...

The USA has been pushing their protection racket on  Europe for decades.

There is no bogeyman

nmewn's picture

So you won't have a problem with the US leaving.

Well good, neither will I ;-)

Whopper Goldberg's picture

Nope. not at all but the USA will continue to create enemies so they can use it as an excuse to stay because World Hegemony is their true goal.

Tallbert's picture

She worked hard for the treatment she received. She spends the money from the German taxpayers for her beloved Rapefugees. No money left for the North Atlantic Terror Organization or German defense budget.

J S Bach's picture

How does a conquered people like the Germans require a "defense"?  Logically, I don't get it.  Were they a truly sovereign state, I would understand.  I would then agree they should pay for any implements of war or defense - IF they were free to wield them.  Of course, they are not.  Today, their every action is at the hidden behest of the money powers and their puppets (i.e. Merkel).  Proof of this is their pathetic "gifting" of billion-euro Dolphin-class submarines to their masters' hideaway in the middle east.  Also, the unpopular policy (as with the rest of the West) of open borders to all third world comers is further proof that Germany is not governed by its indigenous population.

nmewn's picture

Now see, if the EU were an actual "sovereign state" instead of an overly complicated Rube Goldberg money skimming operation run out of Brussels, it could afford its own MIC and military and we wouldn't even be having this conversation ;-)

Vageling's picture

While I agree with what you're saying there is one thing you've missed. The gubbies are intentionally allowing our armed forces to decay. Military leaders made it very clear to them.

Oh and ask that woopie goldbitch about Mali. Yapping his fucking mouth off with protection racket. Like the UN isn't.

nmewn's picture

One of the funniest things we've had to deal with over these last years with these retards was the prospect of quasi-socialist blue helmeted UN troops sent here by globalists to patrol our streets...lmao!...I mean, really?!

They'd be shot down in the streets.

The second funniest thing is the former proud empires of Europe, reduced now to groveling while taking no blame at all for their centuries of rape, robbery and murder.

Its like a Grand Unified Theory of Cognitive Dissonance...or sumpin ;-)

What is Trump worried about?  Everyone knows that Germany repays her debts!

Or was this all a ploy to steal back Germany's gold?  There seems to be a bit of that going on lately.

Yet another masterful episode of "Skwerl Waatch"...

where we get to witness experts hands move the content of the orignal comment out of the way, in order be replaced by harmless diversionary material on a multiple of subject.

CONTEXT CREEP. Your Guide on how to Control and Eliminated Pesky Questions bout FORBIDDEN TOPICS.

Well how bout we creep right back to that original point? Where, as the guy was saying,

this Germany we speak of is not a sovereign entity with the ability to decide it's own fate or financial fortunes - being bound by a web of treaties, agreements, commissions and such to pay out vast sums of $ to diverse parties such as Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and such - for 'reparations' of some kind or other from events more than half a century earlier.

Which is but nothing compared to the neverending leaky bucket which is the scam called Jewish Claims Conference = shake downs of countries like Germany and the Swiss who fail to follow certain banksters instructions to the letter every now and again.

Burdened by demands on it's accounts which others on your list are not, the Germans are probably the least complaining, most subservient nation in Europe - if not the whole world. But that's not good enough for Donald Drumpf - who has a mandate to follow - destroy working relations between the Anglo states and the continental Europeans, preparatory to having Srael take over a weakened and divided NATO and impose it's will upon an equally so EU

I've never been a big fan of Germans - they seem arrogant and anal to no small degree. Likewise, I haven't the time of day for a statist enterprise of center command economic planning like the EU.

However, there's a point reached with all this overt scammin of the same victims over and over again - by the professional "victims" and their western stooge enforcers,

which forces the sympathies to shift from one pole to the other, just via common sense. They've milked this milch cow as much as is possible. Now, either let it out to fresh pastures to wander of it's own will, or sign off on the extortion racket forever. In writing. Witnessed. With a caveat that excludes all finger crossing and Kol Nidre loopholes of the usual kind.

If US didn't spend all its time creating chaos and fake enemies all over the planet the world's military spending could be cut in half, at least. What is called 'defense' spending in US is actally 'attack' spending. Defense Department is really War Department. It's the only thing keeping the dollar as the world's reserve currency.

Germany is occupied territory.

Everyone, everywhere who isn't part of the .01% is being raped and robbed, and most of this stems from what's going on in US.

United States Department of Defence used to be known by its more accurately descriptive name of United States Department of War, but I guess that's not the best of titles if you are trying to hide what you are up to.

> intentionally allowing

Same thing happened to American made auto's in the '70's. They were intentionally built like shit so nationalistic Americans would buy imports as an alternative. First Japanese - then everyone else's. It's how the globalists work. The American military is being set up to fail so an alternative can be presented.

jwoop66's picture

Yes!  This is exactly it.  This is the reason for everything on the decline in the US.  The economy, the loss of manufacturing, the excessive desire for accumulating immigrants.

How do you get Indians, chinese, bolivians, whatever, to go along with your globalist schemes when you hold all the whole pie?  Simple,  give them a piece of the pie.

ii) Countries aren't paying what they should?
iii) NATO “didn’t deal with terrorism.

i) OK, no problem there.
ii) Why whould people pay more for something that is obsolete?
iii) North American Terrorist Organisation - sure it deals with terrorism. Ask Libyans, or Syrians or those in east Ukraine.

BTW the Oklahoma National Guard is in Ukraine, courtesy of Inhofe and McStain. Which nation are they guarding?

well now, since Trump took over the office of the POTUS, I believe the prevailing think has done a 180 and the immigration phantasy is going to be summarily dumped. So, just be a bit more patient and you will see major changes deployed upon the immigration BS we have been fed by obama and ilk.

Teja's picture

Wrong, regarding your globalist car theory at least. I would say it was like this:

Nationalistic Americans buying only American cars as long as they are oversized -> American car makers see no point in improving quality, only making cars larger -> American car makers loose out in all overseas markets -> American car makers see even less point in building efficient cars as Americans don't care -> Foreign car makers are successful in America because American car makers have become too shoddy even for Americans -> American car makers are rescued by government

Market economy at its best. Similar to evolution, also evolution has had its dead ends in isolated regions like islands. Dodo. As soon as foreign competition in the form of rats or foxes comes in, Dodo dead.

So, no globalist conspiracy needed. Only invisible hand of the market, combined with block-headed management and customer base not interested in quality products. Schumpeter would be happy, only up to the point where GM was rescued, of course.

Killdo's picture

I studied about this for my Project management certification - the USA car industry actually sent their experts to assess if Japanesa were really more efficient. So these idiots went there and after they measured productivity - they reailized the Japs were around I think 800% more efficient or some huge figure like that. They flew back to the USSA to tell their bosses about it. Then they all agreed it was just not believable that such huge productivity was possible. So they kind of agreed their measueremnts were wrong.

About 5 or so years later they sent another bunch of idiots to Japan to measuer the same thing. they came back with the same conclusion, but this time they took it more seriously and tried to do something to catch up but of course too little and too late.

Never assume these senior people and CEOs are wise (also celbrities or directors at HBO etc). They are usually not smart at all and got where tehy are through luck and long time ago when there was much less competition and more manufacturing in the US. I know some of these people and can tell you htey are not that bright at all - most think like accountants. One of them was a director of Engineering for Johnson & Johnson, he was good at engineering and making stuff, but he still thought it was a great idea to move all the production to China etc (to get a bigger bonus even though he already had far too much money). I know another one from Sony - even worse.

Most of these so called authorites are a bunch of incompetent , cut off from reality idiots.

that's why I think in the US the employment policy is kind of cultish  - they want you to be not just proven-slavish, but also a bit desparate as well - and maybe to go to the same church if possible.

They don't like employing peopel with balls , especially if intelligent too.

In many ways it's like a cult of ass-lickers (who then filter the news to the top - so the CEO has no idea what's actually happening because nobody wants to be associated with bringing bad news)...

lies, fraud, ass-licking and fear + debt slavery - they usual USSA formula of collapse

Teja's picture

Full ack. Have worked for long enough with American managers. Some good. The higher placed, the worse.

American cars at those times built in cities that still have 90 % of population not suitable for high quality work.

Go figure , cheap match trying to shove your nigger assembled shoddy engineered "fully commoditised fully compliant"

Hitler meme and accussation and vow to build 1st world Autobahn`s across the US without bolshevik speed limits dumping

down the better faster more able drivers giving right of way to winners instead of losers.

It isn't and does not pretend to be a sovereign state. It is just an association of sovereign states. Currently the members are sovereign. This is how Orban is able to make his stand against them and why Greece could have saved the world, but caved in to the 1%. Sovereignty is, however, a push that Brussels is making.

I love Iceland.  It's the Bluto Blutarsky of NATO.  "0.0 of your GDP on defense?  Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

SilverRhino's picture

Trump shouldn't be sitting with Merkel explaining these facts.

He should be sitting with the Queen of England and submitting a bill.

They can either pay it off or sign Canada over to the US.

land_of_the_few's picture

Indeed people should not get confused between "occupation/tribute" and "defense". Although in the case of delusional countries squealing about the Russkies coming (every year) then f**k 'em, let them pay up if they really think so (not convincing) nstead of getting big brother to do it. Germany does not fall into that grasping squealer category.

Plus Germany has a massive economy, but it seems it does not need an equally massive 2%-er military unless they particularly need to frighten Luxembourg or Portugal or somthing? Bless Trump and all but they don't need Uncle Sam there and they don't need to tool up either. Unless if to avoid trainees having to shout "bang!" when practising with broomsticks.

How much does Israel owe us for their defense?

Tallbert's picture

You are completly right. Germany is not a sovereign state and completely controlled by the US and Israel. The demand to increase the defense budget is a request for payment for the US occupation and therfore just an expression of the degree of the occupiers mental distortion. I recently read an article about the US demanding Cambodia to pay for the bombing of their country in the 1970th.

Lots of Americans believe that their military needs bases around the world to protect foreign countries from their enemies and do not recognize that this is a greatest deception of all. The US is the biggest troublemaker. The Deep State and countless secret organizations are unsetting the whole world and try to control every single individual.

This tells me that even the exceptional nation is not governed by its citizens. To end slavery in the land of the free and the world the fucks in the dark and their puppets need to be captured and lined up in front of a firing squad.

+1. Japan and Germany are vassal states, to the US. WWII really set the One World Govt along quite a bit. They started rounding up the Middle East on schedule (ref. Albert Pike, et al), late 90's. BRICS nations are next, Brazil and India pretty well under CIA control, Russia and China next up to fall.

After reading Tradegy and Hope, I fiqured I wouldn't make it to see, one world govt., but looks like its within a decade now. You, me and a million ZH's cannot stop it now. Even Trump, the septuagenarian will be their.

The dollar is the RESERVE CURRENCY, all this talk of debt is either to usher us into a global currency, where we lose the reserve status, a disaster for the us budget, or, just theater show.

tmosley's picture

If the US were to cut our military expenditure to the NATO mandatory minimum of 2%, it would get us most of the way to a balanced budget.

We could still have by far the most powerful military in the world at that level, if we invested a quarter of that into R&D on mosquito-sized and smaller drones that could be equipped with poison injectors or gallium/mercury payloads. Could depopulate a country over night, or literally return it to the stone age, crumbling their metal weapons and infrastructure to dust. Bigger deterrent than nukes. Can be focused with stronger AI. Eliminate enemy leadership in minutes.

PT's picture

I'm no political analyst but my guess is that if the US cut their NATO expenditure then the other countries would stop feeling obliged to do whatever the US tells them to do.

Feel free to argue that one.  I'm listening.

Jubal Early's picture

The US doesn't have a "Nato Budget". Nato requirements are based on defense spending as a percent of GDP.

One of the reasons the Neocons have been Putin-baiting for the last few year is to force Nato countries to choose:  Either they are with Nato, or they are Putin allies.  The same thing they say to Trump or anyone else who impedes the project for Greater Israel.

Vageling's picture

Like the USG will let NATO go. Who will buy their overpriced wartoys? Suddenly European start shopping at the Russians. Who are you going to sell the joint failure fighter to?

MIC is already pissed that they can't scam us into weird stealth bullshit boats with some bullshit canon that needs uber expensive rounds. Even USN admitted it can't afford it.

tmosley's picture

I would rather ask the question: "why would any American care if other countries do what our government tells them?" Let them run their own countries.
