Is This The Top? Champagne Shipments To US Reach 2007 Record Highs

Tyler Durden's picture

Forget the deplorables; ignore the hollowing out of America's middle-class; dismiss the non-recovery in the nation's labor force; because 'everything must be awesome' in the United States - they're drinking the most champagne since the market top in 2007.

As Bloomberg reports, last year 21.8 million bottles of Champagne arrived on U.S. shores, an increase of 6.3% from the prior year, and a fourth straight gain, according to data released this week from the Champagne Bureau, USA. This is the most bottles since 2007 (and we suspect it was not Hillary's friends who were drinking it).

The U.S. is the highest value market for the French product with sales at about 540 million euros ($582 million), and second in volume to Britain, which guzzled more than 31 million bottles last year.

Yesterday Alex Jones issued an apology to the owner of Comet Ping Pong, and admitted there was no truth whatsoever to the Pizzagate story, which was originally labeled by Zero Hedge as a "scandal".  Strangely there has been no mention of Jones' admission here.  Does Zero Hedge have any integrity?  Will Tyler apologize?

I guess not.  Sad!

The story was posted here last night at 11:54. Its at the head of the page as I write these words.

Why don't you open your fucking eyes before opening your mouth, so to speak.

hedgeless_horseman's picture

I know that I have said here from day one that Pizza Gate is nothing more than a bad bait job to try and discredit sites that ran with it.  As far as I recall, Tyler never did.

So go fuck yourself.

Didn't your parents work hard in the hope of something better for you than troll?

I don't know, maybe postal worker? Fry cook?  Used car sales?

What a disappointment you must be to them.

Zero_Ledge's picture

Um, yeah Tyler did run with it, calling it a "scandal."  Here's the lead paragraph of the story posted on Dec. 5:

"As we reported last night, the "Pizzagate" scandal took a turn for the bizarre, when a man with an assault rifle walked into the Comet Ping Pong restaurant on Sunday afternoon to "self-investigate" the popular Washington pizza parlor owned by James Alefantis that has been accused of being an international child sex ring run by prominent Democrats, following the release of Podesta emails. 28-year-old Edgar Maddison Welch, of Salisbury, N.C., fired the rifle at least once inside the restaurant but no one was injured, before he turned himself in."

Note Tyler's use of the word SCANDAL.

You link to a New York Time article.

Tyler posting an article about the actual lunatic with a gun at COmet Pizza is hardly running with it.

Zero_Ledge's picture

That's Tyler's link to a new york times article.

Here, I'll make it easy for you, here's a link to the original ZH article:

Ingigo mentioned that Tyler posted an article re Alex Jones admission.  Will you apologize?

I'll make it easier for you.

Zero_Ledge's picture

If I failed to see a link in a banner or somewhere, then fine, I apologize for missing it.  However, I would point out that I do not run a for-profit website that reports on "scandals".

However, there has been no actual ZH follow up, or correction after running all those Pizzagate stories in December, so I would argue they have a lot more to apologize for.

Zero_Ledge's picture

Again, note the use of the word "scandal."

hedgeless_horseman's picture

How much time and money did your crack team of trolls require to get the one word, scandal?

Whetever it is, the ROI is fucking pathetic.

Zero_Ledge's picture

It took about 30 seconds.  You google "zerohedge pizzagate scandal."

Standing up for integrity and truth is worthwhile.  You should try it some time.

Thanks for the entertainment boys.

Zero_Ledge's picture

Actually I have a PhD in engineering. And my parents were very proud.

How pathetic that you can only resort to ad hominem attacks.

Oh yeah, go fuck yourself too, tough guy.

I can't go more than 37 freakin seconds in a comment section without seeing a reference to pizzagate.  I think it was not only a distraction but an intentional effort to drag our consciousness through the muck, just like disney and their perverted subliminals and naked breasts (yes "the rescuers down under" flashed naked breasts in the background.)

Shpedly's picture

So my local pizza joint raised prices big time. I hardly think it should be a call to arms and be called "pizzagate". WTF

Shpedly's picture

Not that I have a dog in this fight but you said, "my parents "were" very proud. The word, "were" is past tense, so what the hell happened since then? Sitting around picking fights on chat rooms is my guess.

The auto detailing shop down the road is hiring. Spanish proficiency is a plus.

Champagne is for girls. Guess alcoholic wives are on the rise.

If your opinion of this website has been so compromised as to question it's veracity and journalistic rigour, you're more than welcome to peruse other web publications.
Obviously your finely honed PHD grey matter is far to superior for the likes of Tyler's pedestrian, click-baity articles.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

I've been stockpiling all that Champagne getting ready for my upcoming Dow 10000 celebration.

Good then to know that a good Champagne becomes better and better by aging. Your stockpiled champagne will be delicious at the time of Dow 10000 !

Shpedly's picture

Lol. Yeah, I still have my Dow 10'000 hat.

indygo55's picture

Yep, nothing but celebrations here. Shrimp cocktails, caviar and champagne. We are at a perpetual top. We will never see another crash again.

“Stock prices have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau. I do not feel there will be soon if ever a 50 or 60 point break from present levels, such as (bears) have predicted. I expect to see the stock market a good deal higher within a few months.”

I don't really like Champagne that much but I had to assault my cirrhosis inflicted liver with 2 glasses to celebrate the death of scum Rockefeller. I'll bet the volume picked up sustsntially upon his death. The warehouses would be emptied overnight if Kissinger and Soros both bought the farm at the same time.

Yes We Can. But Lets Not.'s picture

I myself have some champagne reserved to enjoy as the looming SpyGate scandal unfolds and results in prosecutions of Obama folks and high-level intel types.

Hey, where in the world is Barack Obama?

Silver Savior's picture

I like the taste of $2 a bottle wine a lot better. The high priced stuff makes me sick.

Shpedly's picture

Champagne? Gimme a break. Its just like PBR beer. It's just another "hipster" fad. Real spirits drinkers don't buy or drink that shit.

northern vigor's picture

Thanks for explaining the meaning of the article....nothings gets by you does it?

I'd say the Elites (German-Jews) are Celebrating how many people that have been killed in the Mid-East.

The more that get droned, the more bubbly is needed.

What a wonderfully creative way of analyzing "market tops". Few will analyze the market from this unique lens and therefore, if the lens, or theory is able to describe/provide insight into the fundamental reality of what's going on, this is a unique edge for those who wish to utilize it, (over say those euphoric (likely) champaign drinkers saying the bull run will never end)

I'll stick with the cheap stuff xD

Market On The Razor's Edge

SGS  Market Timer Status:  LONG
LONG as of close of November 11, 2016
SGS is a Long-Term (weeks to months) Timer SGS ticked lower for the week, signaling more selling head.  It seems, however, that everything including financial markets, is sitting on the razor's edge and could easily fall on one side or the other.
If Trump's Russiagate starts to snowball, then we should see SGS cross its zero line and turn "SHORT". In that case, a good chunk (7% to 10%) of fluff would come out of major indices.

Short-Term (days to weeks) Outlook SPX broke out of its narrow trading range to the downside last week.  Shorter term, chances are good that selling picks up momentum this coming week and SPX tests its 50 D-SMA around 2330 and possibly its Old-ADL around 2300 to 2260 depending on how aggressive selling becomes.
Long-Term (weeks to months) Outlook If Russiagate develops legs, then chances are hight that SPX sells off to test its PUL-2 around 2230 and possibly its 50 W-SMA around 2200.
My Plan No change since last week, I am going to follow SGS and start buying SPY if SGS starts to uptick and closes above its DTL. If SGS continues lower and crosses its zero line and turns "SHORT", I would start opening short positions in SPX by buying SH. Current Long-Term Portfolio (2017)
Past Long-Term Portfolios (2008-2016)
