'Sanctuary' Crackdown Begins: Homeland Identifies 3 Maryland Counties Harboring Illegal Immigrants

Tyler Durden's picture

A month ago, Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh wrote to federal authorities asking that they declare the state's courts, schools and hospitals off limits to immigration agents. Frosh, a Democrat, wrote that he was sending the letter in response to new immigration guidelines issued by the Trump administration that greatly expand the number of people considered a priority for removal from the country.

"I am concerned that the Administration's aggressive new policies will discourage the most vulnerable immigrants from seeking judicial protection and medical care, which will cause avoidable injuries and potentially even deaths," Frosh wrote.

"I ask that you take action to remove this immediate threat to the health and safety of immigrants in Maryland by declaring our courts and hospitals to be safe locations, where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs & Border Protection authorities will not be allowed to identify and seize potential deportees."

Frosh's request mirrored efforts by jurisdictions led by Democrats in Maryland and around the country to declare themselves sanctuaries, meaning they won't use local resources to aid efforts to seize immigrants.

However, all that was before AG Sessions surprise press conference last week in which he detailed the administration was stepping up its push back against cities that break the law by not enforcing actions against illegal immigrants.

"Today, I'm urging states and local jurisdictions to comply with these federal laws.  Moreover, the Department of Justice will require that jurisdictions seeking or applying for DOJ grants to certify compliance with 1373 as a condition for receiving those awards."

"This policy is entirely consistent with the DOJ's Office of Justice Programs guidance that was issued just last summer under the previous administration."

"This guidance requires jurisdictions to comply and certify compliance with Section 1373 in order to be eligible for OJP grants.  It also made clear that failure to remedy violations could result in withholding grants, termination of grants and disbarment or ineligibility for future grants."

"The DOJ will also take all lawful steps to claw back any fines awarded to a jurisdiction that willfully violates Section 1373."

Sessions also called on states like Maryland and California to scrap their plans for becoming a sanctuary state.

"That would be such a mistake."

"I would plead with the people of Maryland to understand this makes the state of Maryland more at risk for violence and crime, that it's not good policy."

And, as Fox Baltimore reports, it appears the administration is cracking down on Maryland already...

Three Maryland counties have been identified as protecting illegal immigrants in their custody.

Homeland Security has identified Baltimore, Montgomery and Prince George's counties as non-cooperative jurisdictions after defying a federal request to hold immigrants in their custody.

In an emailed statement Baltimore County spokesperson Ellen Kobler says, “Regarding the detainer listed in the Declined Detainers Outcome Report, we cannot identify any individual in Baltimore County Detention Center records that matches any of the information in the ICE report."

On a weekly basis, jurisdictions that fail to co-operate with detainer requests have started to be identified by Homeland Security.

An executive order requires it.

Prepare for more tears from Schumer, and more pained expressions from Pelosi who appear quite comfortable supporting people breaking America's laws.

Prepare for more tears from Schumer

Chuck Schumer cries, because his inner-child is Chucky from Child’s Play!   ;-)

Chuck Schumer’s uncontrollable crying ain’t no laughing matter. It is a serious medical condition.

It can be turned into uncontrollable laughing with a handful of Viagra pills washed down with Milk of Magnesia.  ;-)

Title: 'Sanctuary' Crackdown Begins: Homeland Identifies 3 Maryland Counties Harboring Illegal Immigrants

My Response: What took the TRUMP TEAM so long to get started?

Better send some "CRYING TOWELS" to the PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS who must now be in mourning and are now contemplating death threats.

Can't wait to hear MSM. POLOSI and SCHUMER's response. It will be classic.

"Aye, Chihuahua" - I wonder if we'll see any footage of Mexicans running south now...

Prolly need to put the guy(s) who torched I-85 in Atlanta on the payroll to go to work in Maryland.

Let's try out a thought experiment here.  If I say "War is when your government tells you who the enemy is.  Revolution is when you figure it out for yourself,"  you would probably chuckle and agree.

Now how about this:  an "illegal immigration crisis" is when the welfare state tells you what the problem is.  Can you work out the rest for yourself?

RAT005's picture

His letter not to persecute immigrants shows great leadership.  As to illegal immigrants, deport immediately, even with encouragement to apply for legal immigration status if they choose to reenter.

The democraps always pretend there is no difference between the two.

Pursue those who pay the illegals to live here.

Fight Club means you're gonna get hit.

Dabooda's picture

Except sometimes it means you're gonna get drooled on, by effing idiots.

The Gun Is Good's picture

The flaw in your logic being that "the welfare state" hasn't told anyone what the problem is (illegal immigration / invasion by foreign nationals) because the welfare state is designed to accelerate and exacerbate the problem. Rather, citizens have figured out what the problem is, and revolution may indeed result.

Government has created the problem over the past decades while denying it has done so, but an administration actually willing to enforce law in an attempt (no matter how effective or not) to reduce the problem is entirely new.

So we're seeing just a bit of revolution being represented in government for a change.

Dabooda's picture

I'm afraid you mis-identify "the problem."  Immigrants - legal or illegal -- ONLY become a problem if you have a welfare state which redistributes (steals) money from some people to give to others.  "Free" education, healthcare, welfare, and retirement benefits are "the problem."  If all these "services" were privatized, then immigrants who pay their own way, while making the country more productive, would be a pure blessing.

Why not send Spanish speaking illegals to Syria and the Syrians to Mexico? Tell em it was mixup at the airport

BlindMonkey's picture

Sounds like a great idea.  I'm ready to see "Raqqa" and "Aleppo" as "Mexican Word of the Day" memes.

I like how you think.

Maryland seems real interested about illegals suffering injuries and death.  They don't seem to worry a lick about Americans suffering the same fate at the hands of these same illegals.

shamus001's picture

Dont you LOVE how they refer to them as "Immigrants" to appeal to your sense of American history? Not "Illegal Immigrants" attending your schools and gettingg free healthcare while you go bankrupt thru ACA to provide care for your children?

Police round up criminals at the hispital ALL THE TIME. How is this different? These are ILLEGAL immigrants, citizens of another nation who ARE SIPHONING CASH and SENDING it OUT of YOUR COUNTRY.

This is DEFLATIONARY.

kochevnik's picture

They are undocumented immigrants.  They are no different than undocumented house guests, who come to your door then refuse to leave.  It is your duty to give them room, food, and shelter.  They only want a better life.  It is not their fault they have no identification, health certificate, education or money.  It is your fault, because you are thief who stole their land.  Why was it their land?  Because they had 600 priests there 150 years ago who named the streets.  If you force them out of your house, you are racist. To protect themselves, you can never work with them.  But you must employ them to appease your guilt

If those people are 'Undocumented immigrants ' is a drug dealer an 'Undocumented Pharmacist'?

Arrow4Truth's picture

A drug dealer is a pharamcist, an undocumented pharmacist is an illegal drug dealer.

Illegal immigrants is a kind term. The full exact term is: CRIMINAL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS !  Criminal = One who has committed a crime.

Can't wait to see millions of spanish-speaking roaches scurrying south.  Shine that light.

Why do liberals like them more than their own safety?  Proof that liberalism is a mental disorder.

Montgomery County is the largest pile of wealthy leftist liberalism in the US outside of California. They tried to outlaw Christmas a few years ago. They want the illegals for servants and gardeners. PG County is mostly black some hoodlums mixed with middle class. Thought they would want the illegals out, as they are competitors.  These outlaw politicans have to go.

I used to live in Hyattsville - just outside of NE DC.  In the late 80's the neighborhood started getting darker, and darker.  By 1990, the decision was made to hit the road before home prices began to reflect the blight moving in next door.   We got out just in time.  Been in FL ever since.  Now, the same thing is happening here.  Out of the 100 homes in my gated neighborhood, I think over 60% of them have a "z" in their last name.   I can't get my mail from my mailbox without hearing Spanish being shouted from one neighbor to another.

In July, I move once again, to Middle-TN, where the local elementary and high schools have an official racial makeup of 99.8% white.

Dancing Disraeli's picture

Hardly any English spoken at all in Hyattsville these days.  A sizable chunk of El Salvador migrated en masse and settled there.

Xena fobe's picture

In LA, I'm delighted when I hear Spanish.  It's a relaxing break from the shreiks of the Chinese. I never hear English out in public.

jerseychris's picture

You have both hit on something that has annoyed me about beaners for years (besides their just being here):  Why is English spoken and Spanish shouted?  ADIOS, vermin. make America great again..........leave so we can have some peace and quiet.

TwelveOhOne's picture

I've worked with people from Cuba.  Part of their background includes talking at the same time as other people.  Not shouting over them; just, bi-directional communication.

I was raised on unidirectional communication, and this greatly disturbed me.  Eventually had to fire those who couldn't learn to wait their turn.

99.8 is still "mixed".  KeK.

So these people come to this country uninivited, they break the rules in this society, and... we're not allowed to kick them out for breaking our rules?

Yeah. Take these cities' federal money away.

HardAssets's picture

Mexican citizens have a 'right' to break U.S. law and to demand that Americans pay for their schooling and emergency health care.

(The same does not apply to Americans in Mexico.)

To say anything else is raaaaycist . . . in Bizarro World.

You are either on the side of the Constitution, or you are against it. There is no in-between.

BadDog's picture

Yes. BTW, the Constitution defines a dollar as 371.25 of pure silver as THE dollar.  The Federal Reserve Notes that are currently called the dollar are fake.  Just like the MSM news.

10mm's picture

Nice BadDog. Don't here that much.

Catullus's picture

Where's the part in the Constitution that says cities and counties have to enforce federal laws?

therealestg9's picture

While it may not explicitly say it in those words, cities and counties however, should not prevent the federal government from enforcing federal laws. That's the main point.

Catullus's picture

Should they have to pay to hold someone in violation of a federal law in a county jail, waiting for the Feds to arraign them, transport them, feed them, house them, provide medical care?

Just haul them away if you're going to do it.

espirit's picture

... and I was taught to believe the U.S. Civil War settled all this.

Big deal, 2 days housing?  They could have avoided the problem by returning the criminal right away.
