"Russian Forces Were Notified In Advance": Pentagon Statement On Air Strikes In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

Pentagon Spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis has issued the following statement on the U.S. strike in Syria in which US ships launched 59 Tomahawk cruide missiles at Syria.

Statement from Pentagon Spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis on U.S. strike in Syria

At the direction of the president, U.S. forces conducted a cruise missile strike against a Syrian Air Force airfield today at about 8:40 p.m. EDT (4:40 a.m., April 7, in Syria). The strike targeted Shayrat Airfield in Homs governorate, and were in response to the Syrian government's chemical weapons attack April 4 in Khan Sheikhoun, which killed and injured hundreds of innocent Syrian people, including women and children.

The strike was conducted using Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs) launched from the destroyers USS Porter and USS Ross in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. A total of 59 TLAMs targeted aircraft, hardened aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars. As always, the U.S. took extraordinary measures to avoid civilian casualties and to comply with the Law of Armed Conflict. Every precaution was taken to execute this strike with minimal risk to personnel at the airfield.

The strike was a proportional response to Assad's heinous act. Shayrat Airfield was used to store chemical weapons and Syrian air forces. The U.S. intelligence community assesses that aircraft from Shayrat conducted the chemical weapons attack on April 4. The strike was intended to deter the regime from using chemical weapons again.

Russian forces were notified in advance of the strike using the established deconfliction line. U.S. military planners took precautions to minimize risk to Russian or Syrian personnel located at the airfield.

We are assessing the results of the strike. Initial indications are that this strike has severely damaged or destroyed Syrian aircraft and support infrastructure and equipment at Shayrat Airfield, reducing the Syrian Government's ability to deliver chemical weapons. The use of chemical weapons against innocent people will not be tolerated.

And moments after the Pentagon statement, House speaker Paul Ryan said that the US action was "appropriate and just."

Or before the real cruise missile attack.

I wonder if my hatred will subside if this turns out to have been some masterstroke of 4D chess?

What about the hate of the other 3/4ths of Trump voters who no longer support him after this violation of our trust?

It's all for IsraHELL and Trump's Jewish son-in-law, white house senior adviser Jared Kushner.

The timing doesn't seem at all coincidental: a smokescreen / distraction? Market technicals have been screaming big trouble for many months. We may be on the verge of a crash. Consider withdrawing emergency cash.

 Yep. coincidental.

Well when you put it that way ..

No coincidences ..

By the way, I got your snackbar reference ..

So ok, we can stipulate, all parties given advance notice ...

Here's the deal GM, it just occurred to me that here is the reason for the the flood

of 59 tomahawk cruise missiles on the Syrian air base at Shayrat.

You remember the Khibney demonstration by the Russians on the USS Donald Cook

in the Black Sea back in 2014?  The Russians allegedly showed the the US Navy

what they had in store the US's shipborne Aegis defense and attack radar.

Well, I believe that the massive attack of 59 tomahawlk cruise missiles was a

similar demonstration but for Russia's benefit.  The US has talked about its ability

to overwhelm Russia's advanced missile defense system by shear the number of

missiles it can launch simultaneously.

Doesn't it seem to you that a barrage of 59 cruise missiles at a slightly deserted

Syrian air base was to demonstrate, not to Assad but to Putin, what might happen

to Russian radar and Russia'santi-cruise missiles from a mega launch attack?

No worries, John McCain and Linseed Grahm are with him ... although they want, need him to go further.

Remember, he now has the support of neocons , and neoliberals alike ..

I think he's already gotten that bulletin ....

Although I believe he'll live to regret it ...

Oh, and this rotten game has once and for all, been exposed .. without excuses any longer. All doubt again removed.

JFK stood against the generals, the deep state, and we know how that turned out ..

CNN is not sure whether to celebrate his hypocrisy or his humanity, so there is that ...

francis scott falseflag's picture

Not necessarily, GM.  This Punch and Judy show may just be Putin and Trump

begining to work together.  Assad relies completely on Putin's proven

abilities, and if asked to sacrifice his Shayrat air field, wouldn't hesitate to do so.

We haven't seen any pictures of the destruction or heard of any casualties. And when

we hear about them tomorrow, it will be up to us to determine how much is true.

Putin could have done Trump a huge favor by not insisting on tit for tat.  And

pulling Trump out of a lower approval rating than Bush just before 911.  I don't know

what's going to happen next;  one possibility is an ISIS or moderate rebel captured or

coming forward with the 'real' culprit.

It could play itself out a hundred different ways,

but my point is that this doesn't spell the end of the Putin-Trump bromance.

Tump may owe Putin one for letting him flex his balls.

Don't expect to read about it in the NYT or Wapo.

Do know what time this news hit NYC?

Giant Meteor's picture

Well certainly I have considered this as well. Absolutely it pretty much takes off every rag and msm under the sun talking about stolen Russian elections, so there is that ..  As I mentioned earlier, CNN is trying to figure out whether to celebrate Trumps hypocrisy or his humanity.

And I would say NYC probably had advance notice, just guessing here ..

Hell this thing was being "channeled" all day ..

also, it takes a bit of heat off of deep state spying, obviously ..

francis scott falseflag's picture

I meant was the market open.  Did Trump wait till it closed so there

wouldn't be a terrible sell off, and make the boys work hard to prevent a bad opening?

If Trump waited, then there's no telling what a rib-tickler it was.

Putin and Assad have tolerated Israel's attacks with no consequences.

Makes Netanyoohoo feel more comfortable, like losening his belt

after eating too much.

Make no mistake.  Putin and Netanyoohoo have more than a bromance

cooking.  And Lieberman makes three.

The Plan all along was to take out 8 Mid Eastern Countries with Iran being the Last. This plan went all the way back to Bush Sr.. I don't care who's bidding it is, we are the Hammer and we as a Nation are guilty of allowing this to happen. They have divided us and we let these Pukes fuck us and the world. I'm so pissed off I can't see straight. Just finished buying another 100 ounces of silver to add to my plan for survival. When I moved into my present home there was a house one block over that had a fall out shelter built under the garage floor. Man, did I make a mistake not buying that place. After calming down from being pissed off at Trump etc, immediately deciding i am not voting for Trump in 2020, I have a different perspective. Perhaps he and the admin thought this was the only way to get the MSM and the Dems to STFU about this Russia conspiracy garbage. We all know the MSM Russia bs needs to stop and then some. We shall see how things go, if we end up just clearing out ISIS and not getting in war w Russia, I will be ok w this. Now MSM needs to shut up about Russia garbage.

Got The Wrong No's picture

The only way I could buy that at this point is if 99% of those missiles hit ISIS targets and the 1% left hit an old unused shed on Assad's air base. Trump should have verified who used the chemicals and what they were. I think he didn't want to appear weak. The way MSM handles this will be the tell. If they are for it then we can't trust him.

baghead's picture

It looks like trump used this to troll the media again.

Putin betrays another ally. Russia betrayed Iraq, Libya, Serbia and others and continues to betray Syria.

OK, Putin fan club. They TOLD Putin they would attack and he was too fearful to resist. But continue to defend him.

Don't Poke the Bear. lol

MrPalladium's picture

Fear had nothing to do with it. Russian air defenses are not effective against cruise missiles flying at 150 ft above the sea and ground. Any US aircraft would have been shot down by the S3 and S4 systems.
