Alabama Governor Resigns, Charged With Two Misdemeanors

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was booked at Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon on two misdemeanor charges. Although last week the Alabama Ethics Commission found reason to believe he had committed four felonies, Bentley has only been charged with “failure to disclose information on [a] statement of economic interest” and “failure to file campaign finance reports.”

Bentley has resigned from his position as governor and has been replaced by lieutenant governor Kay Ivey, Alabama’s 54th governor and second female governor.

The now-former state leader has been embroiled in a year-long scandal that revolves around Bentley having sordid relations with Rebekah Mason, who was employed in the governor’s office as a senior political advisor. Mason was referred to internally as “Flim-Flam.”

Impeachment proceedings have been looming over his head over accusations he abused his power and used state resources to cover-up the illicit affair. He allegedly threatened staffers, fired the state’s top law enforcement official, and used official vehicles to shuttle Mason around.

As part of a deal cut with Bentley’s attorneys, the state attorney general’s office will not pursue further charges. According to, the terms of the deal require him to:

  • Resign immediately and leave public life.
  • Plead guilty to two campaign violations: converting campaign contributions for personal gain and failing to report campaign contributions.
  • Serve two years of probation.
  • Perform 100 hours of unpaid community service as a physician.
  • Repay the $8,912 his campaign spent on the legal fees of former aide Rebekah Mason, whose involvement with Bentley led to the charges against him.
  • Forfeit all the money in his campaign account, which is currently a little more than $25,000.

On a side note, yes, he really does look that much like Mr. Burns...

He was a republican gov. Then he started committing crimes. So he changed parties to democrat (about 2 years ago).

Unless he rooted for the Redskins.

When switching parties he said "I have done a lot of soul searching over the last few months and have decided that the Democratic Party’s platform is much more closely aligned with my core beliefs on the economy and the role of government in a free society..."

The role of government platform: Unbridled corruption.

At the current moment we're completely Tyrannically Lawless.

We have been for quite some time. In the past, their Criminality was "Hidden in plain view."

Now it's out in the open, in your face Criminality & Lawlessness. Complete debachary.

Thing is, the bar & precedent has been set so high among these Criminals I doubt we will ever see another person arrested in our lifetime.

"...the bar & precedent has been set so high among these Criminals I doubt we will ever see another person arrested in our lifetime."

Sans mass protests in D.C. (which are sadly unlikely, given the sheeple's apapthy and/or debilitating cynicism), I think we've reached the point at which citizens will have to perform wet work on the ruling class criminals themselves. (They own and have thus corrupted the legal system and policing entities in this country, so there is no recourse outside of straight-up vigilante action.)

It should however be easier than traditional modes of violent revolution, since the criminals are very few relative to the overall population, and, more importantly, they are well known to us.

"This old dude pissed someone off by not giving them their cut, plain and simple!"

Very perceptive and very close to the truth. He allowed his mistress to start dictating policy and making decisions. Certain factions lost control of the Governor because he fell under her control and influence - so he had to go. He did. The swamp drained him.

Bullshit. Prison is what's required. At least a year. Send a "message" like the US likes to do with its military all the time to the rest of the world. It's the old "do as I say, not as I do" crap.

The funniest part is that he would not support Trump because Trump had potty mouth and said some bad things against felines, cats...pussy's or something...

Another well-connected political parasite gets away with felonies that would send any non-Intellectual Yet Idiot classes ruling moron American to prison.  There is no Rule of Law in the United States of America.  There is only "Rule Out Of The Barrel Of A Gun" that the IYI classes ruling morons use to fill up American prisons for the sole benefit of Prison CONporations.  Prison CONporations profit enormously from the slave labor or wrongly imprisoned American citizens and they give a generous cut of the profits as bribes to the political parasites.

"She loved him for ???"

Money and power. Rebekah Mason was the defacto governor of the state. She traded sex for control of the State. Once the affair was discovered, Bentleys wife left him, and the legislature saw their chance to regain control of the State from Rebeka Mason by getting rid of Bentley.

Mason's husband, Jon, has "forgiven" her and remains on the State payroll as a paid consultant.

The word on the street is that Mr. and Mrs. Mason were in cahoots with her having an affair with him in order to gain power and money. Basically Mr. Mason pimped his wife out, and she voluntarily agreed with the arrangement. It's amazing what people will do for money and power, and how gullible ageing men can be when it comes to a pretty face.

All in all, it's a sad affair - no pun intended. Now, the female Lt. Governor has been sworn in. Her first official act is to restock the Governors Mansion with a never ending supply of gin and tonic, which is her libation of choice. Starting about 2 pm every day.

The good news is, State government here is pretty much non existent. Which is how we like it. Drink up Governor, it's a small price to pay to be left alone.
