CNN Confirms Fox's Napolitano - British Intelligence Passed On Trump Surveillance To US Spy Agency

Tyler Durden's picture

Roughly a month ago, during the height of the mainstream media mania over Trump's alleged collusion with Russia, Judge Andrew Napolitano appeared on Fox and Friends with a startling new revelation, namely that President Obama circumvented U.S. law and employed a British intelligence agency to conduct surveillance of the Trump campaign.  Despite Napolitano's assertion that the information had been confirmed by 3 separate sources, the Obama administration and foreign intelligence agencies issued immediate denials and the mainstream media was all too happy to trash the latest 'conspiracy theory' of their competitor network.  Here's what he said:

“Three intelligence sources have informed Fox News that President Obama went outside the chain of command.  He didn’t use the NSA, he didn’t use the CIA, he didn’t use the FBI, and he didn’t use the Department of Justice.  He used GCHQ.”

“What the heck is GCHQ? That’s the initials for the British spying agency. They have 24/7 access to the NSA database.”

“So by simply having two people go to them saying, ‘President Obama needs transcripts of conversations involving candidate Trump, conversations involving president-elect Trump,’ he’s able to get it, and there’s no American fingerprints on this."

Of course,  Napolitano's efforts ultimately earned him a multi-day suspension from Fox News.

Now, some 30 days after Napolitano broke the story, CNN seems to have just confirmed it:

British and other European intelligence agencies intercepted communications between associates of Donald Trump and Russian officials and other Russian individuals during the campaign and passed on those communications to their US counterparts, US congressional and law enforcement and US and European intelligence sources tell CNN.

The communications were captured during routine surveillance of Russian officials and other Russians known to western intelligence. British and European intelligence agencies, including GCHQ, the British intelligence agency responsible for communications surveillance, were not proactively targeting members of the Trump team but rather picked up these communications during what's known as "incidental collection," these sources tell CNN.

The European intelligence agencies detected multiple communications over several months between the Trump associates and Russian individuals -- and passed on that intelligence to the US. The US and Britain are part of the so-called "Five Eyes" agreement (along with Canada, Australia and New Zealand), which calls for open sharing among member nations of a broad range of intelligence.

Of course, we're quite certain that, as CNN notes, the intercepted communications were merely "incidental" and in no way requested by the Obama administration, but rather, were conveniently volunteered, unsolicited, by British intelligence.  Moreover, we're sure that British intelligence also had very innocent reasons for "accidentally" happening upon the communication of Trump's advisors.  That said, we do wonder whether they also happened upon any communications from the Hillary campaign...

What dirt did they get on Donald to make him turn into a different person?

Soooooooo .... I guess that in their frantic efforts to connect The Donald and Russia they just verified The Donald's statement that the foreigners gave the eavesdropping/spying information to US entities
CNN vindicates The Donald.

Once again the Judge schools the MSM. Never doubt the Judge!

Oh, and owe Napolitano a BIG ASS apology & RAISE!

Typical MSM ... ridicule with abandon, then verify and bury it.

I knew something was up when they let Judge Nap back in.  Usually those are the kind of "suspensions" you don't come back from.

Ultimately, The Donald has proven by his actions that he's not in bed with the Russians.  He's proven he's full of shit about not getting involved in foreign wars, but he's definitely not allied with Putin.  Jezuz, what a what to prove something, huh?

CheapBastard's picture

At least he's gotten Obamacare repealed and passed the generous tax cuts for the suffering middle class and small business owners before he goes invading foreign nations that have ZERO to do with USA.

....oh, wait a second....

HockeyFool's picture

If Trump could have repealed 0bozocare and implemented tax cuts on his own they would be done by now. But you have rinos in congress that don't want either to happen.

As the old British TV series "Yes Minister" famously quipped "Never believe anything until it has been officially denied". Thusly, when GCHQ came out vwey quickly and forcefully in denial (Which in part was responsible for the excellent Judge Napolitano's "holiday") it was tanatamount to confrimation that it was true. So this latest "confirmation" is largely unnecessary.

Question: The US counterpart Agency to GCHQ is NSA not CIA (whose counterpart is MI6). So why would GCHQ go to the CIA? And, irrespective, is it not the prerogative of the FBI to conduct such (supposedly legally approved) domestic intelligence gathering?

Stinkytofu's picture

if my memory hole is correct, the brits did NOT deny it.

they said the accusation was ridiculous and should be ignored.

philipat's picture

That's what an "official denial" always looks like (Just as Obozo never actually denied that Trump and his team had been spied upon, just that he didn't order it directly)!! But yes, you are correct.

HockyFool, you are spot on! I think ZH has abandon President Trump. Sadly, the people here who I thought where highly educated, have not been paying attention.

We all know the world is FUBAR. The swamp creatures are fighting deadly. We all want the corruption, grafting, lies, stealing, putting us last, to stop, NOW. President Trump is doing what he thinks is BEST for America. He has not sold us out! He is fighting with all that's in him to MAGA. There is no other answer to why DJT would want to be the President. He has put his whole family in danger, lost friends and $. He put it all on the line. Do you honestly think that now, after all he risked, that he would say "well, someone's got some dirt me and I can be bought, so I'll dump all I've worked for and flip flop"

Donald will step down before he sells out. You can take that to the bank!

We are not going to like some of what he's doing, maybe a lot of what we see as flip flopping. I wonder too. But as sure as your reading this, America is a better place because of Donald Trump. He will negotiate using leverage to get the most optimum deal he can to MAGA.

Zorba's idea's picture

that ain't going to happen...Trump showed his true caller when he tried to hustle RINOcare and theatened the Freedom caucus. Further, check out Trumps so called chicken shit Tax reform for the MC...we'll have enough to make a few installments on OhNO!care premiums. America need an internal Brexit from all the elites, oligarchs and deep staters

Not really, because the Donald said he was bugged by the British, not that he/his people were picked up because the Russian agents they were talking to were bugged.  The story claims the latter.  The Donald and Judge N claimed the former.

knukles's picture

I don't see the fine definitions (Which I do see and agree with you on, BTW) as being relevant any longer in this Kabuki Theater of the Absurd.

Might as well party because it won't be as fun when we're all in shackles under an oppressive ... er .... uh ... I mean .... (Hiding under coffee table fort with blankie over the top, a Color Me Oppressed coloring book and a half box of black crayons.)

"Russian agents" is a loaded term.

LetThemEatRand's picture

I couldn't agree more.  The article makes a lot of sweeping claims and presents them as fact.  Chances are, it's just more BS.

"Not really, because the Donald said he was bugged by the British, not that he/his people were picked up because the Russian agents they were talking to were bugged.  The story claims the latter.  The Donald and Judge N claimed the former."

I certainly don't follow every tweet but are these really the facts? Trump tweeted that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower. The Judge said that the British accessed the NSA database at Obama's request. In any case it does seem that information about candidate and PEOTUS Trump's people was reported to Obama administration officials. That certainly seems to cross the line.

LetThemEatRand's picture

I've frankly lost track, but the article claims that the intercepts were by British/European intelligence, not the British accessing the NSA database.   Don't confuse my pointing out what the article says as thinking it has any truth.

Billy the Poet's picture

This post redacted in the interest of forum decorum and world peace.

LetThemEatRand's picture

Billy, when you're right you're right.  And you're a man of honor for retracting your earlier post here.  I don't always admit I was wrong, but when I do I admit it to Billy the Poet.

I mistakenly said in several posts here that the article said the Trump team was monitored talking to "Russian agents."  That was a misread/mistake on my part.  I should have said "Russian individuals" and/or "Russian officials."

nmewn's picture

Its just CNN trying to cover Obama's ass.

We already know about the two FISA warrants and Susan Rice basically getting daily updates.

LetThemEatRand's picture

I agree with you, Nmewn.  The article actually supports the "intelligence agencies were just following protocol" line.  I can't figure out why the Tylers said it supports anything else.

Creepy_Azz_Crackaah's picture

Speaking of which, what ever happened to all of the Brazil articles? There used to be one daily.

Billy the Poet's picture

Official protocol and nefarious political acts are not mutually exclusive but rather synonymous. That's the point.

man from glad's picture

The irony is the naivete of many that think only the great USA is capable of spying, subterfuge and trouble making. The English practically invented black ops and modern spy techniques. The Donald was a threat to them (they wanted Hillary) and they responded. We may never know thier full involvement but i'm sure it was more than a "tip". What is so unrealistic and hard to grasp by so many about this?

nmewn's picture

The "reality" is there were two FISA warrant requests by the DoJ and/or? with the second one being approved (that would be Low-Renta Lynch, an Obama appointee and known granny consort/tarmac visitor with Bubba). The first was turned down (which almost unheard of, thats how shoddy the "probable cause" must have been) but the other a month or two later was approved.

Inquiring minds want to know what was the "evidence/probable cause" given for the first one and then the "evidence/probable cause" for approval of the second one or did they just judge shop around the ole FISA court Star Chamber until they found the right one?

Then we want to know who leaked Page & Flynns names (still not charged with anything) into the press, thats a confirmed felony in our country.

man from glad's picture

Agreed. I'm afraid though by the time all the FOI requests are complied with all we schmucks will get is a lot of black-out text where the juicy bits once were.

nmewn's picture

Yeah, Judicial Watch just got thousands of IRS docs pertaining to the Obama administration attack on the Tea Party.

Funny what one can get off of "recycled hard drives" and "accidently erased backup tapes" once the prior people in charge of such things in government are out of office and vacationing in Tahiti.

Its like a miracle or obstruction of justice...or sumpin ;-)

GCHQ-- That's exactly what Judge Napolitano warned, for which he suffered a temporary suspension from Fox News-- though he got it totally right & saw the big intelligence picture. Couple of pointers from a former spook: 1) The whole point of foreign spies is they're hiding behind a cover, so there would be NO WAY Trump's people would ever suspect they had been approached.

2) FRIENDLY intelligence among allies, like Britain's MI-6, should have warned Trump's people DIRECTLY. MI-6 could have whispered to the Secret Service, who would have immediately notified the Trump Campaign. Instead, British Intelligence said NOTHING. They warned TRUMP's OPPOSITION in the Democrat Party, but made no outreach to the GOP's top candidate. That could be construed as a hostile action. There's no escaping the conclusion that MI-6 really let its ally down!
