Fox News Fires Bill O'Reilly "After Careful Review Of Allegations"

Update: Parent company 21st Century Fox has just confirmed

“After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the Company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel.”

*  *  *

As we detailed earlier, amid his sudden 'vacation', and following initial rumors of a split within the Murdochs over Bill O'Reilly's future, is reporting that the Murdochs have decided his 21-year run at Fox News will come to an end.

According to sources briefed on the discussions, network executives are preparing to announce O’Reilly’s departure before he returns from an Italian vacation on April 24. Now the big questions are how the exit will look and who will replace him.

Wednesday morning, according to sources, executives are holding emergency meetings to discuss how they can sever the relationship with the country’s highest-rated cable-news host without causing collateral damage to the network. The board of Fox News’ parent company, 21st Century Fox, is scheduled to meet on Thursday to discuss the matter. Sources briefed on the discussions say O’Reilly’s exit negotiations are moving quickly.

NYMag's Gabriel Sherman notes that:

the Murdochs’ decision to dump O’Reilly shocked many Fox News staffers I’ve spoken to in recent days. Late last week, the feeling inside the company was that Rupert Murdoch would prevail over his son James, who lobbied to jettison the embattled host.

It’s still unclear exactly how the tide turned.

Spokespersons for 21st Century Fox and Fox News did not respond to requests for comment, nor did O’Reilly’s agent, Carole Cooper.

Ghost of Porky's picture

I like O'Reilly.

But then again, I like pink slime in my hamburger.

Haus-Targaryen's picture

I didn't often agree with O'Reilly, but I liked the guy.  This is a shame.

He should do a 1 v 1 with Maddow. That would be excellent.

Philo Beddoe's picture

WTF? Haus. It must be happy hour in Germany. No downvote as this must be do to alcohol.

Bump Tucker Carlson up to the 8pm slot

pods's picture

Didn't even know he was still on TV.

Maybe he can start touring with Cosby?

PrayingMantis's picture

... O'Really made fun of Mad Max Waters' James Brown wig ... and Mordor, er, Murdoch took exception ... he was JB's #1 fan and nobody makes fun of JB's wig ... ;)

Fox news is preparing to go globalist.

froze25's picture

Preparing, the day the Murdoc boys came in was the day they did, probably well before that simply as "controlled opposition". They are flaming globalist Leftist. No slight on Tucker, I love watching him and wish him well with the promotion but the Murdoc kids are not anything like the old man.

Paul Kersey's picture

If all those advertisers hadn't pulled the plug on the show, FOX wouldn't have pulled the plug on BO. It's all about the money and not the ethics. Is it possible that O'Reilly could find a position in the Trump Administration, if he agreed to go to PGA (Pussy Grabbers Anonymous) meetings?

beemasters's picture

Never a fan from the start. But now at least the foxes at Fox will be safer.

HardAssets's picture

Yep - Faux is what the so called 'conservatives' can yell 'Damned right !' at while nothing ever changes. The so-called 'libs' have channels programmed for them.

winged's picture

It should instead prepare "chastity belts" for its sexually deviant hosts.

Bill let success get to his head and became arrogant.

Preparing? Are you new on this planet?

Tucker Carlson slowly taking over the world!

I have to admit I really underestimated the guy coming off the Fox "morning zoo" pablum couch.  Imagine a show based on doing a good job researching the facts of an issue before you interview a guest about it.  What a novel idea- actual journalism!

He sure as hell made his move and got hot at exactly the right time.  More power to him.

froze25's picture

Agreed, Tucker is entertaining. His facial expressions are priceless.

edotabin's picture

I like Tucker as well. The only thing is that sometimes the bickering gets out of hand. Back and forth and back and forth and back and forth........ and it's not really a debate, especially when they talk over each other. Just my 2 cents.

These allegations may or may not be true, they may be exaggerations, they may be something else, whatever.

A lot of allegations are fake but politically convenient.

The Freres Murdoch probably wanted him gone anyway.

Let's face it -- he irked uppities, politicians, Soros, money changers, NGO types, feminists, leftists, globalists, other overpaid media stars, had phenominal cable ratings, etc., any and all of whom were enough to earn him seething, envious, mortal enemies.

He had a huge audience that largely reflected the ordinary person who was routinely trampled by the system.

He routinely took shots at the power mongers who looked down at him and the rest of us from the safety of their perches.

A spitball or two met its mark.

Enemies at that level will do anything to bring someone down.

Don't be so fast to rule them out.

I would rule them in first.

And who's to say the chicks were not part of it from the beginning?

Remember the sports team members from North or South Carolina who were accused of sexual assault?

It all turned out to be fake but in the mean time the media sided with the skank who made up the whole thing and ruined young lives for nothing.

Then there was the Rolling Stone article about sexual assault that was more raunchy fantasies.

This happens all the time and the accusers should be severely punished if they are found to be liars.

And they along with their media gossipers should be made to pay for all court fees.

Mr. Universe's picture

I never did see what happened with all the Trump accusers? What happened to them, did they recant? Sue? Where are they now?

johngaltfla's picture

If anyone believes that this is about some alleged sexual harassment, I've got some nudie pictures of Janet Yellen to sell you.

NewsCorp was having problems with regulators (aka, socialists) in the U.K. regarding the proposed takeover of ALL of the Sky properties. The snotty commielibs warned that some of the U.S. content was inappropriate for British consumption and that they felt Fox News under Rupert Murdoch did not provide a balanced approach to world news (aka, pro-globalist).

I have the feeling that with O'Reilly gone and a few more of the so-called politically incorrect on-air talents and reporters "retiring" soon, the merger will be approved.

fleur de lis's picture

Yep, I agree.

I just don't think he would be that stupid.

Hope we hear his version of events.

ross81's picture

Just watch that interview with Jeremy Glick over a decade ago and you'll understand exactly what kind of scum O'Reilly is. Glick had the balls not only to publicly oppose the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but to say to O'Reilly's face that the US was responsible for arming, training & financing the very Jihadist infrastructure that attacked America. O'Reilly gleefully went about his task in savaging this young man who's lost his father on 9/11. Political correctness my asshole.

johngaltfla's picture

O'Reilly is a long known piece of crap. His schtick works with the 63 and older crowd but his demos under 40 are the shitter.

He does some good things but other things just make you sigh and change the channel.  FNC's days are numbered as their time at the top is coming to an end just like CNN's did when they became Clinton's non-stop alibi network in 1992.

Creepy_Azz_Crackaah's picture

With both Billy C's - the sexual predators.  Only one was, and is still, adored by "womyn's groups."

dark_matter's picture

And Bill Clinton. Three peepees in a pod.

At least Tucker knows how to dress.  Very cool.  I like O'Reilly, but who the hell dresses that guy?  Sometimes he looked like a clown.

more integrity and guts than O'Reiily has in his shriveled Irish dick

Buzz Fuzzel's picture

I'm not an O'reily fan but I'm beginning to wonder about the younger Murdoch's and the future of an alternative conservative media.

Darktarra's picture

Michael Savage was 100% correct about the leprachaun!

Freddie's picture

O'Reilly is no conservative and neither is the Murdochs.   I have told conservatives for over 12 years that Fox and ALL of TV are not your friend nor is any of the shit Hollywood spews.

F TV, F Hollywood.  The only one worth a shit is Judge Napolitano, Judge Jeanne Pirro, Steve Santelli and maybe Dr. Steve Piczenyk but he worked for deep state.   Tucker Carlson seems to be better but I do not watch TV.  Coulter was against President Jared Kushner-Soros-Free Bagels attack on Syria.

BarkingCat's picture

That's how Tucker gave Madcow her start on MSNBC. Then they jettisoned them and later brought back Madcow.

Son of Loki's picture

I like his Jesse Watters segments that show how clueless Americans are.

Maddoxis just envious because he doesn't have a vagina.

They will probably replace him with one of their eye candy dolls, who look like part-time pole dancers.

She might get a Rachel Madoff haircut, for a more Progressive appeal.

BarkingCat's picture

Former pole dancers. They are all past their naked eye candy expiration date.

Debt-Is-Not-Money's picture

Thats when they are converted from pole dancers to poll dancers!

Son of Loki's picture

I vote for Jenna Jameson. She'll be a whole lot better then competitors like trans-Rachecl Madcow and more intelligent then shills like Far Heed and Chuck Tott.

ZippyBananaPants's picture

Chuck Todd is a giant asshole.

LoneStarHog's picture

His bubble was popped by Murdoch using a PINHEAD!

Obviously, FOX will hire the Obamas to replace Riley.  If Barack is indicted for drug smuggling by AG Sessions before the announcement, Tucker Carlson is the second choice.  Meanwhile, RT reports that the brother of the St. Petersburg bomber is in police custody.

A separate statement from Russia’s Investigative Committee said that Azimov had an RGD-5 field grenade on him when he was captured, and that he is currently being interviewed “to establish his role in the crime, and any other circumstances relating to it.”
