Russia Bans Jehovah’s Witnesses As An "Extremist Organization"

Tyler Durden's picture

Russians will no longer have to dread the doorbell.

On Thursday, Russia's Supreme Court ruled that Jehovah's Witnesses was an "extremist" organization after the justice ministry applied for an order to shut down the group's national headquarters near St Petersburg, Russian TASS news agency reported. Russian authorities had put several of the group's publications on a list of banned extremist literature, and prosecutors have long cast it as an organization that destroys families, fosters hatred and threatens lives, a description the organization says is false.

In its lawsuit the Justice Ministry mentioned various violations, exposed by a snap check of the organization’s activities, including those of the federal law on resistance to extremist activities. The Justice Ministry wanted the organization and its 395 local chapters to be declared as extremist and outlawed and its properties to be confiscated.

The Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses told TASS it found this affair very worrisome, because a future decision would concern 175,000 practicing believers. ACJW spokesman Ivan Bilenko said the organization was prepared to seek protection of its rights in courts of any instance.

A court in Moscow on October 12, 2016 warned Jehovah’s Witnesses over what it ruled was extremist activities. Under Russian legislation the religious organization in question is to be closed down if it fails to eliminate the exposed violations within the required deadline or if new evidence of its extremist activities come to light. The Moscow City Court on January 16, 2017 upheld the warning over extremism handed to Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses group in Russia has said it will appeal against the court’s ruling.

ROFL... nice..... would like to kick them out of America too.

They should label Islam as an "Extremist Organization".  Islam and Muslims are 1000000X more extreme and violent than the Jahovas Witnsses crackpots.

For weapons of mass information, i.e. passing pamphlets.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are a interesting group. They have actually defended our rights (and won) in numerous Supreme Court cases.

Why not invite a handful of Russians to take care of that Berkley free speech crowd? They seem to know how to control extremists.

Yet, they let the blood cult Jews run free.

I hear that Amnesty International is opening up a new chapter in Russia -- Jehova's Witness Protection Program.

The JW's are the only religion out there who for decades have been saying our government will ban christianity and make it a crime to worship.

We are headed in that direction big time

NidStyles's picture

Quit calling it your government if it doesn't represent you...

There are only two groups on this planet that hate Christiainity enough to have it banned. Jews and Communists.

nightwish's picture

Yes and they are basically one and the same.

The JW's aren't aware who really is directly behind such provocation though, but are correct about who runs the jew show, the devil himself - if u believe the bible

Saw a guy milling around as I drove home a few weeks ago.  Parked, started unloading my car, and he walked back and onto my property.  Handed me a pamphlet and left; I didn't have to say "get off my lawn".

Still have the pamphlet, so took a look at it, and sure enough, it's from the JW.org folks.  No, I didn't go to the meeting he offered and have no intention of associating with them.  Interesting, though, that I was accosted not long before seeing this ban.

Same thing they do here.  Upset someone so badly they want to squeeze the living juices out of them.  No different then Islam.  Have to believe a certain thing, do a certain thing in order to be saved. Both have 5 or more of these "things" which are just weird.  Any thinking person can see right through it but it is still upsetting to have to deal with it.  They are extreme not in the sense of doing violence to outsiders just themselves.  You should see how they treat their own children who go a different way.

Re: What did JW's do to get labeled "extremelist?"
They started teaching people what the Bible teaches and the other religions started using political connections to interfere with their public preaching work and weekly meetings. This extremist push stemmed from other churches, not the Government. The Government is just following the will of their masters.

Rikky's picture

>>They started teaching people what the Bible teaches

You should be clear about what Bible you're talking about.  If you mean their own Jehovah Witness "translated" Bible then yes.  They have some pretty stark differences with the mainstream Protestant version that's for sure.

in4mayshun's picture

Any reliable Bible translation, and there are several. The original intent and meaning of the Bible is not that hard to discern, people are just to lazy and stubborn to actually care to do the research.

cornflakesdisease's picture

Yes, it's far more accurate.  So much so, that the bapistist produced the new divine name KJV.

cats rule's picture

there are no differences in their bible and on their website you can see they use all the mainstream bibles available that most christians use. including king james, interlinear, buyington and a couple more.  get the facts

Care to let us in on exactly what the JWs did that the Russian government classified as extremist?

Some of the specifics appear to include exercising total control over all details of members' lives, prohibiting blood transfusions for its members in defiance of doctors’ recommendations, defiance of government institutions and civic duties, refusal to serve in the army, etcetera. The big one, though, seems to be the expectation that members be hostile against all those who do not recognize JW teachings, thus inciting religious enmity.

Russians generally tired of proselytizing, aggressive Western religious tactics.  Interested cult recruits can take tour abroad and complete brainwashing without bothering neighbors.  Orthodox more integrated into our perspective, even for nonbelievers the perspective gives framework for events and holidays.  Unfortunately mormons established a presence and persist due to masonic tentacles

in4mayshun's picture

Yes, imagine the chaos that would break-out if EVERYONE refused to serve in the military! LOL! The politicians would have to duke it out themselves.
BTW...its a Bible command to "learn war no more" and to "love your enemies." If that's extremist behavior then I guess they're guilty.

Mark 12;17 say's "pay back Ceasers things to Ceaser but God's things to God".I know of no more civic minded people that promote loving families and care for many after local disasters Goggle J.W. and disaster relief. Yes they will not Go to war to kill another person just because they live under a different flag.Check it out for yourself https://www.jw.org

Watchtower JW are a "masonic run" org... no further explaining needed ( I hope )

They don't vote because they only believeve in God as their head of state, they remain politically neutral in all matters, they are law abiding, they refuse to take up arms in any armed conflict! Real extemist stuff!!!

Putin hates anyone who's not a patriot willing to kill for Russia, besides this is a favour to the all mighty Russian Orthodox church who hate how much Jehovah's wittnesses expose them by telling the world what real christians should look like, eg. peacefull not in bed with government and power hungry like them.

They have banned them in Moscow, and also in St. Pete for "engaging in unlicensed health care services". This is presumably something to do with their attempts to take the place (and cash) of psychiatry in general, which they usually try to badmouth.

By the way the JWs are in Eastern EU like shit stuck to a blanket. I used to know a genuinely charming JW girl so I find it hard to be nasty about them, but they are weirdos. The no-transfusions for the dying kids bit is particularly dusturbing.

Perhaps I will join up to the JWs to get some jiggy-jiggy. Hey you think evangelical church members honestly join for other reasons? I can tell you this, the Money Churches with the cutest Pastors and the pertest girly-Hallelujah pop church-stage combos get the most asses on seats, always. The Lutheran Pastors can, and do, bang their way through an entire congregation, pretty much.

And, I would be surprised if evangelical catholic girls can walk straight down the road on a Saturday morning without walking like a cowboy when they go home. Some will be wincing when they sit down.

I up-arrowed that comment because it is true.

However, the question for you to answer is, "Why do you call the JWs crackpots?"

Obviously you have a reason for writing that; do you mind if I ask what it is?

And if you don't mind, then please tell us, what is your reason?

That one is easy.  Bad memories from college days of them routinely knocking at the door early Saturday, Sunday mornings long before the hangovers from the night before were gone.   Very inconvenient.   LOL

valjoux7750's picture

Ooh, ooh can I answer That?  because they believe when the world ends that they will inherit it all. Former friend of mine told me " see that house? That house? That car, that car? When the world ends those will be mine".  If that ain't a crackpot.....

in4mayshun's picture

Ya your friends are badly misinformed. That's not a teaching of JW's. Probabably worth checking your facts before posting rubbish.

Fact, The guy was a JW that was what he believed through what his religion taught him.
