President Trump And Turkish President Erdogan Deliver Joint Statement: Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

With relations between Turkey and the US suffering sharp recent deterioration, especially following tensions over the treatment of Kurdish militia in Syria, the strategy to eliminate ISIS, what role Syria's president Assad  would have in the future of the middle east, and especially after Erdogan effectively declared himself quasi-dictator, many were looking forward with interest to today's joint statement between the two presidents to see what if any compromise could emerge on the future of Syria, and specifically how fraying diplomatic ties between the two nations could be redeemed.

After Trump welcomed Erdogan to the White House he told reporters the two would have "long and hard discussions" that would make their bilateral relationship better.

"It's a great honor to have President Erdogan from Turkey here," Trump said before the start of their meetings. "We're going to have long and hard discussions. I know that they will be very successful. We've had a great relationship and we will make it even better. So we're going to have a very, very strong and solid discussion."

Is Erdogan standing on an elevated platform to appear the same height as Trump? I thought Erdogan was short.

Is not White House tradition to pardon Turkey every year in November? Why is this year in May?

Erdogan is evil an a scum bag.

If President Trump shakes hands, hope he washes his hands thoroughly to make sure his ilk will not infect our President.

Erdogan is quite tall. The problem with Turkey is their long history of working with the Mossad and Shin Bet.

Syria being primed for yet another attack by the USSA, which Turkey has been doing all along with Israel and the USSA.

Now Assad is OVENING THOUSANDS!!! It’s Decision Time, Donald Trump! May 15, 2017

The stark resemblance to Confederate statues being torn down in USSA is quite stunning:

ErDog will do his best to destroy any weapons Trump gives the Kurds.

HRClinton's picture

The US has two geo-strategic reasons to keep Turkey in its sphere:

1. To keep Russia and China out.

2. To keep these terror groups from denying expansion of our financial system.

All of Erdogan's crimes against democratic values are therefore forgivable, and our Media allies will report, not report, or spin accordingly.

HowdyDoody's picture

These Kurds are now arresting their Arab 'allies' even though the Kurds are a minority in the area. They clearly have been given a clear signal by the US to divide Syria, just like ISIS.

With Turkey turning to the east, America is desperate to make friends, but Turkey has recently attacked US forces fighting with the Kurds and said it will do so again.

This won't go anywhere. With Turkish Stream and Russian nuclear plants, plus the S-400s, Turkey is still trying to play both sides, and it looks like he might get what he wants from all major parties involved. He controls all the oil and gas into Europe and much of the water into the middle-east.

Democrats need 22 more votes from GOP and Independents to impeach Trump. His approval rating per Gallup Poll released on Monday was only 38% the lowest of all four presidents. His days as president is running out.

A great honor?

Trump legitimizes a third-world dictator by inviting him to the White House... someone responsible for all kinds of nefarious shit, especially the brokering of black market oil, and he calls it an honor?

Hyjinx's picture

What do you want him to do?  Curse him out in public then try to "negotiate" with him?  That would be idiotic.  You can drop the hammer on him later if he doesn't cave.

Caleb Abell's picture

Heavens NO!  I just can't believe that the US would have anything to do with a country that engages in "nefarious shit."  Golly, we've spent over two centuries helping every nation we could, and after all of these years spreading goodness and kindness around the world, we find out that our new president will actually talk to someone who has been Naughty.  Oh, the humanity!

Wait a minute, don't let Jesus hear about this.  He may take back the merit badge he gave America for being exceptional.

Perhaps, if Erdogan and Trump have some extra time, The Donald can explain to our ally why the US has slaughtered millions of people over the last six administrations.  I'm sure we had a good reason for it that wasn't naughty.

something else most people don't consider:

presidents REPRESENT their nation's people. they are not royalty. remember the outrage at Obama's casual reception at the Beijing airport? and who among us would defend his record of drone attacks upon innocent women and children? but "we" (not me) still expected him to be treated with respect, right?

Erdogan's visit is the strengthening of relations between two nations' peoples. the Hittites are honorable, renown warriors. diss Erdogan and we're telling 75 million Turks to f*ck off at a time of peak ME chaos--short of all-out war between nations. not wise. triggers are more evident with hindsight.

Americans should continue to respect and honor our two nations' alliances independent of individual human frailty. most would agree it's nice to travel to Japan without fear of retribution for the two atomic catastrophes President Truman ordered... or agent orange orphans stalking us due to LBJ's insanity.

yep... i'm pleased Trump is reaching out to Erdogan. my granny always said, "You get more ants with sugar than vinegar." or something like that. (:

rejected's picture

I wonder,,, could someone tell me the difference between a quasi dictator and what the US has had since 1963?

I mean the People have repeatedly voted for change only to get the same-o.

The People did not want NAFTA, CAFTA nor any other 'free' trade which is exactly what we got.

The People want Guantanamo shut down and no more gulags but it's still there.

The People do not want huge deficits, but deficits get bigger every year.

The People do not want never ending wars but government starts one or two every year it seems.

No matter who get in office - any office at any level of government- it just gets worse.

I could go on and on, but all I ever get is it's the Democrats fault or the Republicans fault when both parties have occupied the office at one time or another.

Divide and conquer has always been a fundmental strategy of the deep state power brokers - since fthe beginning of recorded history - thus the two "opposing" parties, both of which are guilty of creating the deep shit we find ourselves in.
