Russia's Foreign Minister Trolls The U.S. In Cyprus

Tyler Durden's picture

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in the Republic of Cyprus on Thursday for a working visit, which will last until May 20. There Lavrov is expected to hold talks with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulidis. On the sidelines of the session, Lavrov met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland.

At that point Lavrov took another pot shot at the US, a continuation of the trolling which started yesterday when Putin offered to provide US Congress with the transcript of the Lavrov-Trump meeting, which earlier this week led to media turmoil after the WaPo reported that Trump disclosed confidential information to the Russian foreign minister.

This was the exchange in question, which the Russian ministry of foreign affairs was all to eager to tweet earlier today.

Thorbjorn Jagland: These pictures (protocol photoshoot) won’t cause any problems for you?

Sergey Lavrov: It depends on what kind of secrets you pass on to me

[Laughter in the room]

When the people who used to produce Pravda in the old Soviet Union call your story "fake news" its pretty sad.

shovelhead's picture

Didn't Krugman used to write for Pravda, the State newspaper?

He still does. The NY Times.

dark fiber's picture

What was wrong with Pravda?  We have WaPo we don't have the right to talk about Pravda.

Make America A Laughing Stock Again.

Love this guy, in a respect way that is.    He has the intellectual horsepower of Andrei Gromyko, but with an ease and wit that was somewhat absent with Gromyko.

N0TME's picture

Gotta say, Lavrov has a good sense of humor.

Great man in him.

Go Russia!

shovelhead's picture

You have to admit we set him up for the best jokes.

dlweld's picture

He's quite kind and gentle in his humour. Not pointing out directly or harshly that the USA is becoming a laughing stock, as US leadership is skipping through the flowers chasing imaginary butterflies, singing, being happy and bickering and pointless. Reality is more in this direction congressman.

The US makes the Keystone cops seem organized and serious. Too bad about the nuclear arms.

He is a true diplomat, very rare these days.

Trump should get a message to "Vlad" that he'll have more fleibility after the next election. The CIAmedia didn't seem to mind that so much.

Not a joke at the expense of the US--a joke at the expense of the Lame-Stream Media.

The picture of Kissinger & Lavrov this week , was just as comical.

We are in the midst of a civil war. The leftists and the media have split the country over sour grapes. They may regret that at some point.

And yet again, no fucks were given by Lavrov.

Sergei Lavrov reminds me of Dirty Harry, in that, he gets all the shit jobs, sitting face to face with filthy 5 Eye Jerk-Off's.

They laugh because the USA is a bad joke, not to mention a dystopian nightmare.

Lavrov.........what a piece of work.

Vageling's picture

Lavrov has humor. You can't deny that. I laughed.

dlweld's picture

He comes across as an adult - makes all the tizzys, and odd issues, and running in circles, that the US leaders occupy themselves with seem like the behaviour of bunch of kindergarten kids - with nuclear arms.

Vageling's picture

Because it is, my brother. The game here is witty sarcasm. He did not mention the USG directly. Sure..! We adults paying attention know what his sarcasm meant. Subtle. He insulted stupid people with grace. The beauty of it!

Humor wrapped in sarcasm is a great tool. Defuses you know, if you get the message.

As for those fools in the USG? Don't they have a country to manage? Talking about priorities... No... Russia. Obsessed retards.

HRClinton's picture

I will admit that Lavrov has style.

Reset, anyone?

Centerist's picture

Lavrov's joke was funny, but you Russopheliacs all seem to think that Russia is the best thing since the invention of the wheel.

Sure, the US has some issues, but Russia is the country with the shrinking population and an economy based almost entirely on petroleum products.  They'll never field an Army the size of what they had in the Soviet era, and the people will continue to be crushed by security forces for speaking out against Vladimir the Super Bowl ring thief.

You talk about dystopian in the US, but Russia makes our privacy and freedom of expression infringements look like minor errors.

Go ahead and red arrow this, you Russo-trolls.  The only comments that will be in response to accompany the red arrows (if any comments) will be idiotic one-liners and Neo-Nazi drivel about Zio-whatevers.

Not one of you will be able to offer a substantive reason why Russia really is better than the US.  AK-pattern rifles (I own a few Russian ones) and some booze are about all they do well outside of their aviation sector.

HoyeruNew's picture

US's "privacy" and "freedoms"? just by using those fake words is enough to know you're a total troll.

BTW, FYI USA is still buying Russian made engines and is paying Russia for a taxi ride to the ISS.

Centerist's picture

Are you telling me that Russia has greater privacy and freedoms than the US? The whole premise of my original post is that while we do have politicians and bureaucrats who have  eroded those liberties, the liberties that we still have far exceed those of the Russians.  You cannot say that theirs exceed ours.

And you can thank a certain former president for the space travel issue.  Our private sector will bring about a solution to that, soon enough.
