Unnamed White House Official Under FBI Investigation In Russia Probe: NBC

Tyler Durden's picture

In an update to the original WaPo story, according to which a senior White House official was a "significant person of interest" in the Russia probe, NBC reported late on Friday that according to two US officials, an unnamed current White House official is under FBI investigation related to Russia collusion. While there is no concrete further information, some pundits have tossed around the name of Jared Kushner as a potential target of the probe.

* * *

The NYT/Wapo bombs are flying early today.  Shortly after the New York Times dropped a story alleging that Trump bragged to the Russians about firing the "nut job" James Comey, the Washington Post has just dropped another bomb of their own alleging that a senior White House adviser and "someone close to the president" is under scrutiny by investigators looking into possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The law enforcement investigation into possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign has identified a current White House official as a significant person of interest, showing that the probe is reaching into the highest levels of government, according to people familiar with the matter.

The senior White House adviser under scrutiny by investigators is someone close to the president, according to these people, who would not further identify the official.

Today's bombshell du jour, comes to us courtesy of yet another batch of anonymous sources.  That said, this time WaPo went even one step further and left out the target of their political hit job as well, describing him/her only as "someone close to the president."  So now we have anonymous sources and anonymous targets, the definition of 'quality journalism'.

Shortly after the article dropped, the White House released the following statement reiterating their previous assertions that they welcome a "thorough investigation" which they say "will confirm that there was no collusion between the campaign and any foreign entity."

"As the President has stated before - a thorough investigation will confirm that there was no collusion between the campaign and any foreign entity."

Meanwhile, despite the assertion that "someone close to the president" is a target of the ongoing Russia inquiry, WaPo's 'sources' said that the investigation remains focused on Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort.

The sources emphasized that investigators remain keenly interested in people who previously wielded influence in the Trump campaign and administration but are no longer part of it, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Flynn resigned in February after disclosures that he had lied to administration officials about his contacts with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Current administration officials who have acknowledged contacts with Russian officials include Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as Cabinet members Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

People familiar with the investigation said the intensifying effort does not mean criminal charges are near, or that any such charges will result. Earlier this week, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III to serve as special counsel and lead the investigation into Russian meddling.

Shocking that both the NYT and Wapo dropped stories just in time to dominate the weekend headlines, almost as if the releases were coordinated. Actually, make that 100% guaranteed...

If I were to guess who, it's probably Kushner.

At this rate, the Washingon Post and the New York Times might as well become "anonymous sources" themselves.

I have always believed that the problem of fake news would be solved if news media simply offered warranties on their news:

"If the news or information provided by CNN is found to be defective in materials or workmanship, CNN will provide a complete refund and pay you for the time you wasted consuming OUR fake news as well as the time you required to acquired the correct news."

Problem solved.

Instead the warranty on the news you get today is: "If our news convinces your kid that he can put on a cape and jump off a building and fly like superman, tough shit.  You have a stupic kid."

Davidduke2000's picture

trump only whines, he does not  appear to know how powerful the presidency is, yet he keeps quiet, I am starting to believe they have something on him which is shutting down what he was preaching during the campaign, or the whole thing as he always said, talk with no action since he became politician.

Catahoula's picture

Fake news bias propaganda bullshit. That's all

Davidduke2000's picture

the problem is they are becoming a tsunami these fake news, eventually people would believe, then trump let his military hit Assad forces, causing himself more loss of his support. as of today I no longer care whatever happens to this man, anybody else would do exactly the same crap, let it be biden or pence they are all full of shit.

Davidduke2000's picture

trump people are making the citizens believe that the market is great and the economy is humming on all cylinders, it is even easier for experienced propagandists to come up with a connection to the Russians including trump himself. trump today is polling at 41% because he has a big mouth like most business people, the same as Trex, and most of his cabinet, in business the more you talk the better you do, however in politics the more secretive you are the better you do.

Why trump did not deny that yosef lieberman is not even in the running for the FBI directorship, why they are keeping people believing he is and by doing so people start hating trump for hurting himself and giving the wrong impression about himself, the more these nasty little things accumulate , the worse his situation becomes.

Davidduke2000's picture

I think trump would eventually give up as he is not able to handle the situation, he does not want to go on the attack and he does not have the know how to defend himself and keep making mistake after mistake, he keep pulling shady characters from the swamp and appoint them to the top jobs to hurt him.

More high school journalism. Oh wait, even in high school you name your sources.

After what we have seen in the last few months, if anyone you know quotes the NYTimes or WaPo, smack them up side the head and kick them in the balls.

For being stupid.

It’s becoming obvious that our worst economic and political problems revolve around the global hegemony of corporate cartels headquartered in the US, where their military force resides. The only effective way, now, to regain our sovereignty as citizens of a constitutional republic is to severely curtail the activities of such corporations. To remain a free nation, we have to stop granting corporate charters to every con artist that comes along and start demanding a well-defined social value in return. The "Divine Right Of Kings” should not apply to fictitious entities just because they are “Too Big To Fail”. We can't take the incorporation of private transnational banks for granted anymore. The government must be held responsible to human voters, not fictitious entities.

An omission in the US Constitution created the swamp of corporate corruption we now see surrounding our capital. It is a swamp that can't be drained at this point because the Constitution doesn’t provide a legal drain. This 28th amendment is intended to provide that drain so Congress can legally pull its plug. As a matter of political practicality we must rely on the Article 5 Constitutional Convention for which the electorate will need prior consensus to avoid preemptive state or corporate interference. This is what it will take, in plain language, to save the world; and nobody gets hurt:

28th Amendment

Corporations are not persons in any sense of the word and shall be granted only those rights and privileges that Congress deems necessary for the well-being of the People. Congress shall provide legislation defining the terms and conditions of corporate charters according to their purpose; which shall include, but are not limited to:

1, prohibitions against any corporation;

a, owning another corporation,

b, becoming economically indispensable or monopolistic, or

c, otherwise distorting the general economy;

2, prohibitions against any form of interference in the affairs of;

a, government,

b, education, or

c, news media, and

3, provisions for;

a, the auditing of standardized, current, and transparent account books, and

b, the establishment of a state and municipal-owned banking system

c, civil and criminal penalties to be suffered by corporate executives for violation of the terms of a corporate charter.

The Founders had to fight a bloody Revolutionary War to win our right to incorporate as a nation – the USA. But then, for whatever reason, our Founders granted the greediest businessmen among them unrestricted corporate charters with enough potential capital & power to compete with the individual States, smaller sovereign nations, and eventually to buy out the Federal government itself. Now that these fictitious entities own the USA and command its military infrastructure by virtue of the Federal Reserve Corporation and run it by virtue of regulatory capture, MSM propaganda, and Congressional lobbying, they’ve set their sights on the creation of an all-inclusive global financial empire. The US Constitution is the de facto “Charter” of that Empire. Only we, the people, can amend it, and in doing so, restore the Republic.

How about a Soros influence probe?

No? Not allowed by the Master Tribe?

It's okay influence if it's from a Hungarian who collaborated with the Germans in the arrests of Ashkenazim during WW2? Arrests that resulted in rides to a "death" camp.

If the Holocaust is so damn important then why does Soros get a pass?

Davidduke2000's picture

We can be sure it's not a joo, as joos and clintons never do anything wrong, they are pointing Bannon.

Vilfredo Pareto's picture

If it is Bannon then they are wasting their time on the Russian campaign collusion tinfoil hat theory.   Bannon wouldn't take money for shenanigans from the Ruskies.  As a newsman he can talk to anyone and coordinate with other news organizations just like the DNC did.  As we know now a heads up on a puff piece or playing favorites and scratching the back of a reporter for favorable placement is not a crime.  It wouldn't be a crime even if Bannon were " colluding " with an international news organization such as RT or Wikileaks.  If they twist up some weird Sarbanes Oxley or McCain feingold campaign violation for a news organization then we will know the fix is in cuz Hillary and the DNC did the same thing with news services.

Vilfredo Pareto's picture

I bet the Tyler's are right.   It's Jared.   The FBI is scarily thorough.   They have his contacts investigated down to junior high and every last email or social networking app he has ever used.    They know all your secrets, Jared.   But if you were engaging in pay for play you do need a little time in the slammer to think about your sins lol.

Old Hippie Patriot's picture

In the year and a half before Trump even ran, Kushner was dealing with Russians. Trump was only recently told about Kushner's false statements about Russian contacts in his security application.

Vilfredo Pareto's picture

I can't see any of this, manafort, Flynn, or anyone directly connected to trump unless he was stupid or reckless.  I guess we can't totally rule that out lol.

Yeah trump is cozy with ruskies, a few known sweetheart real estate deals, possibly a big loan from a Russian bank.  Surely he keeps those deals as legal as the Clintons did.

Kefeer's picture

Who cars if someone was "dealing" with the Russians really?  If someone dealt with China, Mexico, Canada or anyone else - what is the big deal?  They want people to think about Russia in such a way.

Obama directly interfered with European election and some Europeans endorsed Clinton directly - that is interfering with elections.  Stinkin hypocrites.

If it's Kushner, involves his business dealings, and gets Jared removed from the White House, that would be the one instance in which I would cheer.  That kid is cancer.

Bonus:  Ivanka would likely have to resign in shame as well.

Exactly how much do you know about Kushner?  Crickets...it is that kind of blind hate that the left is known for - are you a liberal?  Then quit talking like one.

For those of you keeping score at home, Donny is not going down for collusion, as he is the classic unwitting fool. Members of his campaign and Administration are the ones going down for collusion. Donny is going down for money laundering and RICO violations.

And the happiest person in all of this?

Melania, an inspiration to immigrants everywhere. Is America a great country or what!

There will be an opera written someday.
