Trump Told Russians Firing "Nut Job Comey" Eased Pressure From Investigation

Tyler Durden's picture

It's that time of day again. The market is nearly closed, the weekend draws close and the mainstream media needs a new narrative. Well voila - from none other than anonymously source US officials, The New York Times proclaims that

President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved “great pressure” on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting.

“I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official.

“I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”

Mr. Trump added, “I’m not under investigation.”

Is that what they are laughing at in this image? Or are they scoffing at Anthony Weiner's sexts?

The NYTimes adds that The White House document that contained Mr. Trump’s comments was based on notes taken from inside the Oval Office and has been circulated as the official account of the meeting.

Additionally, one official read quotations to The Times, and a second official confirmed the broad outlines of the discussion, suggesting that the long knives close to Trump may be getting sharper.

There may heva been a method to Trump's madness, an "art of the deal" if you will. According to yet another government official briefed on the meeting and quoted by the NYT, "Trump was using a negotiating tactic when he told Mr. Lavrov about the “pressure” he was under. The idea was to create a sense of obligation with Russian officials and to coax concessions out of Mr. Lavrov - on Syria, Ukraine and other issues - by saying that Russian meddling in last year’s election had created enormous political problems for Mr. Trump."

It's unclear if this particular approach worked, although in retrospect it certainly provided hours of entertainment for the Russian foreign ministry.

In response to the NYT story, the White House did not deny the quotes but instead said that Comey's "grandstanding" and "politicizing" of the Russia probe hurt diplomatic efforts with Moscow.

"The President has always emphasized the importance of making deals with Russia as it relates to Syria, Ukraine, defeating ISIS and other key issues for the benefit and safety of the American people," White House spokesman Sean Spicer says in statement. "By grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into Russia’s actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russia," Spicer says

"The investigation would have always continued, and obviously, the termination of Comey would not have ended it" Spicer said adding that "once again, the real story is that our national security has been undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations"

Meanwhile, Comey is now merely the latest high profile figure portrayed in a similar way by Trump:

Weird, isn't it?  It's almost like certain key words in the stories attract them, like flies to shit, to clutter up these comment boards.  You know, I wouldn't even mind so much if they were actually making decent arguments or inconvenient points, but half of them are barely at third grade grammar so that's clearly too much to ask.

The saddest part is I'm actually becoming convinced that's part of the plan: make the comment boards here, which are notoriously good, basically unreadable and useless so we just stop coming--because let's be honest, the comments are like 70% of the reason to read ZH if one isn't actively trading markets or just flipping doom porn.  (I do love me some doom porn, though.)

Makes one really miss MBD.

Yeah, the troll brigades are out very hardcore over Seth Rich.

Ironic once that little story dropped, suddenly the impeachment talk dies down, Assange is off the hook...

It's like the swamp dwellers can feel the noose tightening...and it is.

jeff montanye's picture

certainly changed the focus from those russian hacked dnc emails to more recent stuff trump had done.

what gets me is that it seems so obvious seth rich was hit as revenge and a warning to others.  the pathetic d.c. police's "botched robbery" explanation isn't as likely as some dude who wanted to bang his girl and found seth in the way.  i mean come on really, what robber takes the time to beat the victim severely if he's going to shoot him to death, or already has?

and not only how crooked are the fbi but how stupid as well to not have at least pretended to have investigated the seth rich murder.  that one really has me scratching my head but they are on record in the legacy media as to their not having done a smidge of work on that lead which pulses like a blinking neon beer sign in the night. he could have been a russian spy or a trump mole or both.  as far as they knew.  right?

so far i can find sharyl attkisson on the equally puzzling question of why, when they were searching for who stole dnc data, the fbi allowed the dnc to refuse them their clear legal right to examine evidence, with a search warrant if necessary.  this whole thing is as crooked as can be and it was done so poorly a high school newspaper reporter could break it. of course unless hillary clinton killed her/him first.  there's always that (mr. president).

so far the google search "why didn't the fbi investigate seth rich" gets no real response.  who wants one of these pulitzer prizes?  anyone?

Exactly.  Hey, if you walk across a field you have to dodge the dogpiles.  We just need to consider it an inconvenience.

We all simply need to keep pulling on the thread.

Dave where the fuck are you ? I know you are here. I got my clown wig and a long sock hanging from my genitals. I'm about to start knocking on doors and running thru hallways. Stange indeed.

"It's recently been revealed that the U.S. government contracted HBGary Federal for the development of software which could create multiple fake social media profiles to manipulate and sway public opinion on controversial issues by promoting propaganda."

"Emails obtained by political hackers from a US cyber-security firm called HBGary Federal suggest that a remarkable technological armoury is being deployed to drown out the voices of real people."

The globalists are not "taking us to big war" unless they pack up to move from the northern hemisphere before setting off an extinction event. Let me know when the Queen moves to South America. Otherwise it's fear porn.

There is quite a bit of hearsay on this latest manufactured assault from the MSM.

It seems to me that the context of the conversation (from Trump's perspective) was this:

1. Comey is a political hack and is acting like a nutcase trying to use the FBI to protect his political allies (i.e., the Clinton Crime Syndicate).

2. Part of that abuse of his position has been a constant attack on me and my associates having colluded with the Russians in order to steal the election.

3. There have been no formal charges and there is no evidence of any wrongdoing.

4. He admitted that I am not under investigation.

5. This attempt to manufacture a scandal (very similar to Dan Rather's manufacturing of fake documents to damage Bush during an election cycle) has made it very difficult for me to have talks with Putin.

6. Firing this partisan nutcase (who should have been fired long ago according to Democrats) got rid of someone who was abusing their position...and removes the pressure that has created so that I can now have talks with I should have been able to do all along but avoided because of the pressure that this attempted manufacture of a scandal has created.

At this point, I'll take Trump's word over Comey's.

Not for long and you only pledge loyalty to your leader in a dictatorship, not in a representative democracy.

Jeffersonian Liberal's picture

Do you seriously believe that the patriots who pledged their loyalty to George Washington believed they were under a dictatorship or that they were so stupid they didn't see that they were under a dictatorship?

You may want to rethink your statement.

He's doing it all wrong.
Like this President Trump "uh.. you know...we got some folks around here... um.. that drove the car with Seth Rich into the ditch.. and um..they just need to get out...I mean they are real nut jobs...clinging to their fake popular vote and Starbucks double lattes..
They need to just stand back and let sane people the car and get to the truth"

the entire American Oligarchy is criminally corrupt and complicit. Their fear of Trump is that he is proxy for their fear of the American People. Which they should be.

Whether or not the American People deserve Trump may be one thing. However, The American Government sure as hell does.

And Clinton and Comey.

Lockheed Martin, a Clinton Foundation donor and Clinton Global Initiative member got 17 private contracts from the Clinton state department.  Comey also worked for Lockheed and his last year there was paid a $6 million salary.

frankly - and I am generally a comey supporter - when comey came out in july...stated the 37 reasons why HRC should be in prison...then said, "but no reasonable prosecutor would charge her"

...i knew something was very wrong with him.

i chalked it up to death threats on his family.  weird and unexplainable for a straight shooter like him to practice such pretzel logic.

What? Comey was with HSBC launderer, and took millions from the Clinton Foundation, twit

rosiescenario's picture

That was my reaction, too, at that time; however, I have dug into Comey's past history which started with White Water, included being a director of the money laundering HSBC, and is linked into a foreign arms deal that benefitted the Clinton Foundation. If you look at the facts on him he is as bad a swamp critter as any other.
