Paul Craig Roberts Laments "The Assault On Trump"

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by Paul Craig Roberts,

We are witnessing an assault by the national security state and its liberal media on a President of the United States that is unprecedented.

Wild and unsupported accusations of treasonous or illegal Russian connections have been the mainstay of the news since Trump’s campaign for president. These accusations have reached the point that there is an impeachment movement driven by the national security state and its liberal media and endorsed by Democrats, the American leftwing which has turned against the working class as “Trump deplorables,” and luminaries such as Harvard Law Professor Larry Tribe. The Washington Post, which was not present at the meeting of President Trump with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, purports to know that Trump gave Lavrov US national security information.

The Russian government has offered the presstitute media a transcript of the meeting, but, of course, the pressitutes are not interested.

The latest story is that Trump tried to bribe FBI Director Comey, before he fired him, not to investigate Trump as part of the “Russian investigation.” Clearly there is no intelligence left in the American media. The President doesn’t need to bribe someone he can fire.

What we are witnessing is the determination of the national security state to keep their prized “Russian Threat” in its assigned role as the Number One Threat to the US. The liberal media, owned by the CIA since the 1950s is in accord with this goal.

The American media is so accustomed to its enslavement by the national security state that it does not think of the consequences. But Professor Stephen Cohen does. I agree with him that the greatest threat to national security “is this assault on President Trump.”

Cohen said that there is a 4th branch of government, the intelligence community, which obstruts the management of American foreign affairs by the executive branch and Congress.

As an example, he reminded us that “In 2016, President Obama worked out a deal with Russian President Putin for military cooperation in Syria. He said he was going to share intelligence with Russia, just like Trump and the Russians were supposed to do the other day. Our department of defense said it wouldn’t share intelligence. And a few days later, they killed Syrian soldiers, violating the agreement, and that was the end of that. So, we can ask, who is making our foreign policy in Washington today?”

In the 1960s, President John F. Kennedy thought he was in charge, and he was assassinated for his belief. JFK blocked an invasion of Cuba, the Northwoods project, a preemptive nuclear strike on the Soviet Union, and spoke of ending the Cold War.

In the 1970s President Nixon was driven from office, because he thought he was in charge of foreign policy. Like Kennedy, Nixon was a threat to the national security state. Nixon pushed through SALT 1 and the anti-ABM Treaty, and he opened to China, defusing those tensions as well. The military/security complex saw its budget dwindling as the threat dwindled. Nixon also determined to withdraw from Vietnam, but was constrained by the national security state. Nixon, the most knowledgeable president about foreign affairs, was forced from office, because his efforts in behalf of peace constituted a threat to the power and profit of the military/security complex.

It is important to understand that there is no evidence whatsoever against Nixon in the Washington Post “investigation.” The Post’s reporters simply put together a collection of inuendoes that cast aspersion on Nixon, whose “crime” was to say that he learned of the Watergate buglary at a later date than he actually did. Nixon kept the burglary quiet until after his reelection, because he knew that the CIA’s Washington Post would use it in an effort to prevent his reelection.

The “crime” for which Nixon was really removed was his success in establishing more peaceful and stable relations with Russia and China.

Trump, being in real estate and entertainment, was unaware of the landmines on which he was stepping when he said it was time to normalize relations with Russia and to rethink the purpose of NATO.

The US military/security complex sits on a budget extracted from very hard-pressed American taxpayers of $1,000 billion dollars annually. By threatening to normalize relations with the enemy which was created in order to justify this vast budget, Trump presented as the major threat to the American National Security State’s power and profit.

This is why Trump will be broken and/or removed as President of the United States.

Once again democracy in American is proving to be powerless. There is no one in Washington who can help Trump. Those who could help him, such as myself, cannot be confirmed by the US Senate, which is owned lock, stock, and barrel by the military/security complex, Wall Street, and the Israel Lobby.

Trump tried to connect the suffering American people to their government, an act of treason against the oligarchy, who are now making an example of Trump that will dissuade politicians in the future from making populist appeals to the people.

All theater.  Remember that in plays the beleaguered hero wins in the end against all the odds.  The producers have something nasty in mind.  Another 911 to give Trump dictatorial powers.  Benevolent dictator of course, except for the unfavored.  Anyone who has looked into 911 knows Freemason insiders did it 33 years after they built the buildings.  Who fits that description better than Trump.  Who benefited the most but the Trump camp which rode the disaster of the Iraq war to the presidency.  All theater and planned.  The audience believes it but not any of the big players.  They watch the real play behind the scenes.

Since 1963 the fledgling Deep State has been running most of the show. They got

JFK. They got Nixon.  They got Carter with Desert Sabotage.  Then they got

Reagan and that's when the Deep State teamed up with the Jeocons.  By then

we had lost Iran and ex-CIA director and President Bush was tasked to get it

back.  He failed so first he started a war between Iran ad its neighbor, Iraq.

We gave Saddam poison gas and satellite photos to no avail.  So Bush started

a war with Iraq to shut Saddam up about the poison gas a satellite pics.

Then we decided to destabilized the Middle East.  Knocked Iraq's oil production

down. Destroyed Lybia's production.  Less production. more crude for us.

Then the subprime mortgage fiasco.  A decade long recession.  That cut demand for oil.

More crude for us.

Only Russia stood up against us, so we turned on them.  We hated the Russians since the

the Twenties, 1945, anyway.

Now we have gone to the brink of war with Russia, whose main defense

is its arsenal of Nuclear Weapons.

The idiots in the deep state don't think Putin will use them to prevent the deep

state from becoming the deep universe.  I think he will.

What the consensus of the ZH Denialists?

Benito_Camela's picture

What exactly do you think ZH is in denial about? I think 85% of people here would agree with 85% of what you said. You ruined a perfectly good post with an idiotic question at the end.  But I upvoted it anyway.

That nuclear war or Putin castrated are the only solutions to OUR MAJOR PROBLEM

johnjkiii's picture

Nixon got himself. He was a paranoid, liar and got caught. The Kennedy angle is typical conspiracy BS, unproven and unprovable but a great tool to use in idiotic stories like yours. Russia has been operatng well within its historical perspective that it is the persecuted state and it needs to protect itself by expanding its borders. This is nothing new, nor is its use of fake news and subterfuge to distract its enemies. Corporations act in their own best interests which include colluding with the government to impose regulations on competition. None of this is ay different than any other time in history. ven the MSM operates much like the "Yellow Press" of the 19th Century. The only real difference today is that every yahoo with an opinion can get into print.

francis scott falseflag's picture

Conspiracy theories can never be proven my friend or else they'd be called

indictments and trials.  World class conspirators never leave any smoking

guns and potential witnesses usually are unintended suicides.  As far as

Nixon is concerned, there is no reason to tell you, but other conspiracy nuts

will like: it's very possible that the night guard who discovered the

taped open lock late that night.

Of course, if you're not into conspiracy theories, nothing is ever out of the

ordinary to you.  The bullet that killed Kennedy taking that ricochet trip in the car,

Jack Ruby in the Dallas police garage with a gun, killing the only man who knew

whether there was a plan or not.  Then Ruby dying of brain tumors, like Reagan's

DCIA dying of brain tumors after his 'accidental' lobotomy by a CIA surgeon in 1986.

The dumbest thing a fellow who doesn't believe in conspiracy theories can do is

suddenly show up at a blog where conspiracy theories are de rigueur and offer

no proof against them except his own "common sense," which may be common

but certainly isn't any sense at all.

Putin would if he had to. We do have at least some folks still fighting the deep state apparatus on various levels. There is hope. I just hope that Trump has the balls to start tearing some shit up.

The deep state is fuled by American greed.

Without which it could never exist.

We are conjuring our own demons and incidentally that is how all demons are conjured..

The demons we ALL fight are our own creation.

We have conjured one big bad motherfucker this time it's hideous and it has no soul, just like almost all people who have conjured it.

Just be a better person and stop worrying about it.  It's all you can do anyhow.

Yes it's used by literally ever low life on planet earth, every power hungry faction imagineable is drawn to it like a moth to a flame but first and foremost it has to exist to draw them.

It's the fucking power we've concentrated and we're all powering it ourselves and we refuse to cut the power.

The visionary of the famous "Fatima event" said in 1957 that God will use Russia as the instrument of punishment to the world. There is nothing the deep state can do to stop that. The term "punishment" is not just for the sake of making people suffer but to restore many people back to God. Russia is only one country/government out of three in the entire world that acknowledge Jesus Christ. USA no...

Benito_Camela's picture

God damnit there is nothing "liberal" about the corporate media except that they will occasionally advocate socially liberal opinions and they happen to ignore the transgresions of politicians called "liberal" by the right, but not actual liberals in practice - those such as Obama.

As a reasonable "liberal" I would prefer to work with my "conservative" neighbors and co-workers rather than brand each other and tear each other up as the deep state technocrats and oligarchs would like us to.  I have argued FAR more often with Democrats than I have with Republicans (although both are really two sides of the same coin) about the drug war, the reason that Trump had way more appeal to a lot of people than Killery, and the fact that Bush and Obama are the real reason that so many so-called progressives are convinced that Trump will start jailing journalists (and CNN and MSNBC employ no journalists) after running the least transparent, most litigious administration in history, after promising to do the opposite then letting Wall Street off the hook.  The so-called "left" as incorrectly defined by Limpbaugh and Mark Levin are just as unhinged and irrational and incapable of logical argument as some of the knuckle dragging right wing authoritarian neocons who secrettly only stand for American exceptionalism and empire.  Same fucking thing as the Neolibs.

It's too bad that Trump reversed his campaign stances on the deep state and Wall Street. Sessions is a retrograde drug warrior and I'm a civil libertarian who is willing to agree that guns and drugs need to be regulated by a reasonable state apparatus but in no cases criminalized unless another person has been deliberately harmed. This will draw ire around here, but nobody can come up with an example of a regular joe being thrown in jail for a long time or killed because of some gun crime that didn't involve anyone else getting hurt. OTOH, the drug war gets tacit sympathy and support from a lot of the right.  And I'm sick of paying for our "troops" guarding poppy fields in Afghanistan while American citizens are being thrown into a cage and forgotten about because they aren't members of the pharmaceutical cartel.

The MIC, Wall Street, et all run this country and they couldn't be happier that a comment like mine will get lots of downvotes because I spoke the truth at a venue like ZH. The dissent and division is what they want.  Nobody can deny that the time Trump's campaign harkened back to, the 1950s and 60s were characterized by incredibly high corporate taxes and taxes on the rich along with large scale discrimination and racism. But at least then the deep state had not totally co-opted the governance and direction of the United States of America. It's frankly too late now. We'll need to burn it down and rebuild it and I hope that the reasonable among us can agree on who gets the guillotine and who deserves to be listened to.  Both George Soros and Roger Ailes are scum in my book.

"...there is nothing "liberal" about the corporate media"

Thank you! Your sentiment is the very first time I have heard/read anyone other than myself mention that the media is NOT liberal nor left, it is entirely centrist and adversarial, working against the public and for the deep state regardless of which "party" is in office. You could see it when GWB was president, they pumped his ass up just the same as they had ever pumped any democrat. Their goal is not even profits but to serve those who make all the profits from their state dealings and coincidentally, those people who the media does serve, also own the very media itself and they are niether left nor right.

It’s becoming obvious that our worst economic and political problems revolve around the global hegemony of corporate cartels headquartered in the US, where their military force resides. The only effective way, now, to regain our sovereignty as citizens of a constitutional republic is to severely curtail the activities of such corporations. To remain a free nation, we have to stop granting corporate charters to every con artist that comes along and start demanding a well-defined social value in return. The "Divine Right Of Kings” should not apply to fictitious entities just because they are “Too Big To Fail”. We can't take the incorporation of private transnational banks for granted anymore. The government must be held responsible to human voters, not fictitious entities.

An omission in the US Constitution created the swamp of corporate corruption we now see surrounding our capital. It is a swamp that can't be drained at this point because the Constitution doesn’t provide a legal drain. This 28th amendment is intended to provide that drain so Congress can legally pull its plug. As a matter of political practicality we must rely on the Article 5 Constitutional Convention for which the electorate will need prior consensus to avoid preemptive state or corporate interference. This is what it will take, in plain language, to save the world; and nobody gets hurt:

28th Amendment

Corporations are not persons in any sense of the word and shall be granted only those rights and privileges that Congress deems necessary for the well-being of the People. Congress shall provide legislation defining the terms and conditions of corporate charters according to their purpose; which shall include, but are not limited to:

1, prohibitions against any corporation;

a, owning another corporation,

b, becoming economically indispensable or monopolistic, or

c, otherwise distorting the general economy;

2, prohibitions against any form of interference in the affairs of;

a, government,

b, education, or

c, news media, and

3, provisions for;

a, the auditing of standardized, current, and transparent account books, and

b, the establishment of a state and municipal-owned banking system

c, civil and criminal penalties to be suffered by corporate executives for violation of the terms of a corporate charter.

The Founders had to fight a bloody Revolutionary War to win our right to incorporate as a nation – the USA. But then, for whatever reason, our Founders granted the greediest businessmen among them unrestricted corporate charters with enough potential capital & power to compete with the individual States, smaller sovereign nations, and eventually to buy out the Federal government itself. Now that these fictitious entities own the USA and command its military infrastructure by virtue of the Federal Reserve Corporation and run it by virtue of regulatory capture, MSM propaganda, and Congressional lobbying, they’ve set their sights on the creation of an all-inclusive global financial empire. The US Constitution is the de facto “Charter” of that Empire. Only we, the people, can amend it, and in doing so, restore the Republic.

Essentially we are talking about economic fascism, i.e., the collusion of government and big corporations to rig the economy in their favour. Both benefit and the rest of us suffer plunder and control.

If most of the public placed a sufficiently high value on freedom and had sufficient intelligence to comprehend the system, which they do not on both counts, then we could probably resolve this issue peacefully by voting in people who actually represented us. Unfortunately the system has control of the election apparatus, and to make matters worse, almost all of the current political class have a fundamental belief in government supremacy over citizens which is what attracts them to seek government power in the first place.

As Roberts points out, this has been going on for a long time, and there is no reason to think that Trump will end this game now. Clearly Trump doesn't get it or he would not have appointed swamp critters to occupy positions of power in his administration. And Trump has almost no real support from Congress or the Courts since they are all part of the government scam themselves, and have no interest in changing it.

It will come down to a grassroots violent struggle, and this won't happen until life gets so bad that people see that revolting will be less painful than going along to get along. We are not at that point yet, but we will get there when two major events come to a head.

One is the collapse of the debt based monetary system where banks create money out of thin air and loan it into circulation, essentially making us indentured servants, but also creating an exponentially expanding debt burden that eventually can't be paid and leads to financial collapse. The second event is the end of the industrial age for want of sufficient energy to drive it. All sources of energy are controlled by the "low hanging fruit" concept wherein we acquire the easiest sources first and leave the rest for later, only later has now arrived. It progressively takes more and more energy to acquire a given unit of new energy, and we finally reach the point that we must expend more energy to get a unit of energy than is in the unit acquired, leaving no net energy, and the industrial age collapse because it is heavily dependent on energy.

Give it a decade or two at the most and we will be in the middle of a life and death struggle to survive, and that will make this fascists economic system intolerable. People will rise up, not out of some strong value in freedom or a sudden realization that they are being screwed, but out of desperation. It will be a Revolutionary War where not only must freedom loving people fight their rulers, but their neighbors who support government. Read about the 1861-1865 American Civil War in border states like Missouri if you want to get a flavor of what is to come.

Maybe this is how they plot against Trump (ANY president)?  This is truly a threat to the American system of government - people need to take a higher perspective than concentrate on any perceived shortcomings of their president - they need to develop an understanding of the true threat to America.

trump is not used to fist fight, he usually let his lawyers intimidate people he dislike, of course this does not work with a big media that prints anything then pay the price if it backfire, but with over 50% of the population hate trump some did not vote for him, some are disappointed with his warmongering, some are appalled by his spineless style of not fighting , and some are not happy with letting his aides picking his enemies in positions of power who end up turning against him. the man really tried to have romney as secretary of state because his knowledge is very limited in international affairs and he's easily swayed by propaganda and fake news. from criticizing the government for going after Assad to going himself after Assad, this change of heart was the work of neocons who want to give the Golan oil to israel and carve Syria up like a pizza because that's what saudi wants and is greasing the pockets of politicians to get its wish.

With the appointment of a swamp permanent resident Muller who will take all 4 years to investigate a non story and by keeping the leaks going he may extend the investigation into the next presidency and if the rumors are correct , it appears that trump may appoint yosef  lieberman as the head of the FBI, trump will turn the government into an israeli government run by generals who's only game is to enrich the war machine who keep greasing the general's pockets with tax payers money.

Once tired and drained, trump may give up and resign to get his life back together, but it will be too late as he implicated his kids in his adventure and by leaving he will damage his brand forever.

Either he buys a new pair of balls and go on a savage attack a do or die situation or he will be ridiculed by history as the shortest presidency that only brought hate and disappointment to the people who bought his story and hype.

Most of us have know for years what you write is true. The only fly in the ointment is the money arm of the military industrial complex. Most of them have bought into the premise that they can do business as usual in the worlds socialist economic utopia. Anyone who doesn't believe that countries use psychological warfare and propaganda to sway the opinions of people both in and outside of their country should be considered naive. To many people America is more than a little hypocritical when they criticize other countries for trying to gain influence considering our history of meddling in the affairs of other countries.

Americans have every reason to be concerned and worried considering revelations of just how big the government intelligent agencies have grown since 9-11 and how unlimited their spying and surveillance operations have become. The article below explores this growth and questions whether we have lost control.

After 10 months of investigation, there still isn't ONE SHRED of verifiable proof of ANY collusion between Trump, the Trump campaign and Russia!
