NBC Reports Former Soviet Intelligence Officer Attended Meeting With Don Jr., But There's A Catch...

Tyler Durden's picture

Just when you thought the Don Jr. story was starting to fizzle, due to revelations which would suggest that nothing of substance was discussed in his meeting with the now infamous Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, NBC News has just dropped a new "bombshell" detail that the heretofore unknown, and quite 'mysterious', third-party that attended that meeting with Veselnitskaya was none other than a Soviet-born counter intelligence officer.

Of course, once you get past the salacious headline, the story may not be as much of a "bombshell" as NBC would undoubtedly like it to be.  It seems this "former Soviet counter intelligence officer", a man that NBC refuses to identify for some reason, emigrated to the U.S. some time ago, is an American lobbyist and holds dual citizenship in the United States.

The Russian lawyer who met with the Trump team after a promise of compromising material on Hillary Clinton was accompanied by a Russian-American lobbyist — a former Soviet counter intelligence officer who is suspected by some U.S. officials of having ongoing ties to Russian intelligence, NBC News has learned.

NBC News is not naming the lobbyist, who denies any current ties to Russian spy agencies. He accompanied the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, to the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower attended by Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort.

The Russian-born American lobbyist served in the Soviet military and emigrated to the U.S., where he holds dual citizenship.

Ironically, and we're just spitballing here so don't hold us to it, maybe, just maybe, bringing a 'lobbyist' to a meeting in which your intent is to 'lobby' for the overturn of the Magnitsky Act might just be something that makes sense rather than being part of a larger plot to rig an entire American presidential election.

Don Jr.

Meanwhile, as Natasha Bertrand of Business Insider notes, the identity of this 'mysterious' 6th person was actually revealed last week by the New York Times as Rinat Akhmetshin.  And, guess what?  He was part of a lobbying team put together by Veselnitskaya to overturn the Magnitsky Act and was actually the person who organized the showing of that anti-Magnitsky Act film at the Newseum, which Veselnitskaya attended, 4 days after the infamous Don Jr. meeting.

Contacted about the meeting, Don Jr.'s attorney simply stated that the man was a "friend of Emin [Agalarov]’s and maybe as a friend of Natalia [Veselnitskaya]’s."

Contacted by NBC News, representatives for Kushner and Manafort declined to comment.

Alan Futerfas, the attorney retained by Donald Trump Jr., confirmed he has spoken to the individual.

"It’s very simple,” Futerfas said. "The person was described as a friend of Emin [Agalarov]’s and maybe as a friend of Natalia [Veselnitskaya]’s.”

Futerfas said he has talked with that individual who came to the meeting with Veselnitskaya. "He is a U.S. citizen. He told me specifically he was not working for the Russian government, and in fact laughed when I asked him that question.”

Futerfas confirmed that, “for the purpose of security or otherwise, the names were reviewed” but said Trump Jr. knew nothing about the man's background at the time of the meeting.

When asked about whether he had concerns, knowing what he knows now, Futerfas responded: “I have absolutely no concerns about what was said in that meeting.”

So what say you?  Elaborate plot to coordinate with Russian operatives which resulted in the first successful American coup in history or a useless meeting that has become a convenient tool in advancing the media's Russian narrative?

More revelations coming after this:  Some Trump campaign official once had gas pumped for him by a Russian immigrant.  And Trump Sr. was once seen drinking Vodka and eating Caviar.  I also heard somebody in the Trump campaign was once framing out his deck with a Hammer while his neighbor was simultaneously clearing some weeds around his house with a Sickle.  I mean, how much more proof do you need?

Uncertain T's picture

As long as this "Russia" thing keeps the media occupied, Team Trump is able to get things done out of the spotlight.... Such as, deportations, pedophile roundups, trimming EPA, re-channeling education dept, and judge appointments.

I see this Don Jr thing is a trap set by Team Trump for the media to fall into.

By the way, Don doesn't drink Vodka... must be a media plot! LOL

Anonymous sources say there were a couple more people in the room with them; Jimmy Hoffa and Elvis. They may have been planning to cede control of the US to aliens, the kings estate declined comment.

The whole thing is quite suspicious, we should form and independent commission to investigate.

Uncertain T's picture

This investigation would only be 'independent' if it is staffed entirely by Democratic operatives and media shills... That way Mericans can get to the real truth .... especially when Elvis shows up for his testimony.

sgt_doom's picture

Well, if anonymous sources said it, then you know it was the truth!!!!!!

Funny.  Whats really maddening to me is when I read about this story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, often called the Star and Sickle, you read the comments and 99% believe this conspiracy crap...or do they? When I post my comment (pro Trump) it almost never gets approved.  Sad!  Pathetic!  BIAS!!!  The Tribune is not fooling everybody. Trump almost won MN.  But let's face it, Trump is not doing much winning lately mostly due to the gutless Republicans and rinos.

Soviet....isn't that a term that was around when Buddy Holly rocked?

I'm pretty sure the 'Soviet' crashed and burned. I also recall Russia was one of 'em...like Ukraine, Tajikistan, Yugoslavia, Romania, Poland....but that was pretty ancient history. I wonder if Hungary invokes the same rabid response as 'Soviet'?

I know 'Russia' does.

Vodka?  That would be news about the Don since he doesn't drink

Now Ms Veselnitskaya is the same person our glorius Attorney General, Loretta Lynch gave a special visa to and then lost contact after her alleged meeting to resolve a bankruptcy issue AND THEN was part of a lobbying team to overturn an act of Congress.   Got it.  Just quoting the above.

Meanwhile, as Natasha Bertrand of Business Insider notes, the identity of this 'mysterious' 6th person was actually revealed last week by the New York Times as Rinat Akhmetshin.  And, guess what?  He was part of a lobbying team put together by Veselnitskaya to overturn the Magnitsky Act and was actually the person who organized the showing of that anti-Magnitsky Act film at the Newseum, which Veselnitskaya attended, 4 days after the infamous Don Jr. meeting.

It's hilarious how the right continues to lie and downplay the meeting.

From Donald Trump Jr's email about the meeting.

"This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump"

"Emin asked that I schedule a meeting with you and The Russian government attorney".

sgt_doom's picture

Much obliged for this comment.

I've been spreading that Russian-gas-pumping hearsay for several months now, was afraid it hadn't caught on . . .

True. Of course I'm only spitballing here so don't hold me to it. Trump jnr, Kushner and Manafort thought they were going to a meeting with a lobbyist to discuss adoption law, right ?

I'm just spitballing here so don't hold me to it; maybe Trump jnr ,  Kushner and Manafort only went  because they thought that they were attending a meeting with a Russian lobbyist to discuss adoption law ?

Little wonder that they never mentioned something so trivial to the boss.

Got The Wrong No's picture

Why would they go to a meeting for something that meaningless at that point in the election?????

lasvegaspersona's picture

ummm...just spitballing here....lobbyist= donations?

curbjob's picture

Oh, I dunno ?

.. maybe I'll take jnr's word for it as to why he went (with campaign managers in tow).

Aside, it's  also entirely conceivable that all 3 failed to mention it to Trump (or anyone else who might have thought it a good idea to tell him) ... but that really would be spitballing .
