Zombies R Us: "We, The People" Are The Walking Dead Of The American Police State

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by John Whitehead via The Rutherford Institute,

RIP George Romero (1940-2017).

Romero - a filmmaker hailed as the architect of the zombie genre - is dead at the age of 77, but the zombified police state culture he railed against lives on.

Just take a look around you.

“We the people” have become the walking dead of the American police state.

We’re still plagued by the socio-political evils of cultural apathy, materialism, domestic militarism and racism that Romero depicted in his Night of the Living Dead trilogy.

Romero’s zombies have taken on a life of their own in pop culture.

Zombies also embody the government’s paranoia about the citizenry as potential threats that need to be monitored, tracked, surveilled, sequestered, deterred, vanquished and rendered impotent.

Case in point: in AMC’s hit television series The Walking Dead and the spinoff Fear the Walking Dead, it’s not just flesh-eating ghouls and cannibalistic humans that survivors have to worry about but the police state “tasked with protecting the vulnerable” that poses some of the gravest threats to the citizenry.

Why the fascination with zombies?

Perhaps it’s because zombie fiction provides us with a way to “envision how we and our own would thrive if everything went to hell and we lost all our societal supports.” As Time magazine reporter James Poniewozik phrases it, the “apocalyptic drama lets us face the end of the world once a week and live.”

In other words, zombies are the personification of our darkest fears.

Fear and paranoia have become hallmarks of the modern American experience, impacting how we as a nation view the world around us, how we as citizens view each other, and most of all how our government views us.

The propaganda of fear has been used quite effectively by those who want to gain control, and it is working on the American populace.

Despite the fact that we are 8 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist, we have handed over control of our lives to government officials who treat us as a means to an end—the source of money and power.

We have allowed ourselves to become fearful, controlled, pacified zombies.

Most everyone keeps their heads down these days while staring zombie-like into an electronic screen, even when they’re crossing the street. Indeed, a Nielsen study reports that American screen viewing is at an all-time high.

Psychologically, such screen consumption is similar to drug addiction, transforming viewers into a more passive, nonresistant state. Historically, television has been used by those in authority to quiet discontent and pacify disruptive people. Prisons officials actually use TV to keep inmates quiet.

We are being controlled by forces beyond our control.

This is how the police state takes charge.

As the Atlantic notes, “The villains of [Fear the Walking Dead] aren’t the zombies, who rarely appear, but the U.S. military, who sweep into an L.A. suburb to quarantine the survivors. Zombies are, after all, a recognizable threat—but Fear plumbs drama and horror from the betrayal by institutions designed to keep people safe.”

What we are experiencing is a betrayal of the very core values—a love of freedom, an adherence to the rule of law, a spirit of democracy, a commitment to accountability and transparency, and a recognition that civilian rule must always trump military methods—that have guided this nation from its inception.

The challenge is not whether we can hold onto our freedoms in times of peace and prosperity, but whether we can do so when all hell breaks loose.

Anyone who has been paying attention knows that it will not take much for the government—i.e., the military—to lock down the nation in the event of a national disaster.

The government is not out to keep us safe by monitoring our communications, tracking our movements, criminalizing our every action, treating us like suspects, and stripping us of our means of defense while equipping its own personnel with an amazing arsenal of weapons.

No, this is not security. It is an ambush. And it is being carried out in plain sight.

For example, for years now, the government has been carrying out military training drills with zombies as the enemy. In 2011, the DOD created a 31-page instruction manual for how to protect America from a terrorist attack carried out by zombie forces. In 2012, the CDC released a guide for surviving a zombie plague. That was followed by training drills for members of the military, police officers and first responders.

The zombie exercises appeared to be kitschy and fun—government agents running around trying to put down a zombie rebellion—but what if the zombies in the exercises are us, the citizenry, viewed by those in power as mindless, voracious, zombie hordes?

“We the people” or, more appropriately, “we the zombies” are the enemy in the eyes of the government.

So when presented with the Defense Department’s battle plan for defeating an army of the walking dead, you might find yourself tempted to giggle over the fact that a taxpayer-funded government bureaucrat actually took the time to research and write about vegetarian zombies, evil magic zombies, chicken zombies, space zombies, bio-engineered weaponized zombies, radiation zombies, symbiant-induced zombies, and pathogenic zombies.

However, in an age of extreme government paranoia, this is no laughing matter.

The DOD’s strategy for dealing with a zombie uprising using surveillance, military drills, awareness training, militarized police forces and martial law is for all intents and purposes a training manual for the government in how to put down a citizen uprising or at least an uprising of individuals “infected” with dangerous ideas about freedom.

If there is any lesson to be learned, it is simply this: as I point out in my book, Battlefield America: The War on the American People, whether the threat to national security comes in the form of actual terrorists, imaginary zombies or disgruntled American citizens infected with dangerous ideas about freedom, the government’s response to such threats remains the same: detect, deter and annihilate.

It’s time to wake up, America, before you end up with a bullet to the head (the only proven means of killing a zombie).

Perhaps it's predictive programming for the coming T-Virus release in the USA? The old patented rabies/ebola combo.. ya that one.

The T virus. It's already spread. Look at liberal America haters nowadays.

German Nazi's and their tactics were never defeated. They were assimilated.

Oh, crap! The Russians are here. Grab what you can! As for convicted collaborators... what convicted collaborators? This guy isn't German! That's John Smith and another John Smith, and another! "Psst. Hold the passport up and smile. Keep your mouth shut till we're pass the checkpoint."

Welcome to America!

They should call it "Night of the Living Goyim" because a lot of these movies are just the tribe yucking it up at the zombie goyim that they can manipulate easier than a zombie.

What makes zombies so much fun to kill is their lack of any redeeming human characteristics.  All they really want to do is stagger around and eat human brains.  The heroes of the story get to kill and kill and kill without any sense of moral shame.  This is precisely what we want, as Americans, in an enemy.  Guilt free extermination on all levels, look what we did to the people of Iraq.  Depleted Uranium weapons make for the perfect tool of Ecocide.  The only problem is that our brave soldiers bring their radiation diseases home with them.  But once they're limping down our city streets, the cops will gladly blow them away for us.

SubjectivObject's picture

No.

Zombies let us take out all our frustrations on, depersonalize, and vent our inner urges toward other humanoids.

Without meaningful consequence.

Only Zombies believe they live on a spinning globe hurtling through space, but can't feel it because of magic.  Or that a magical word called "gravity" could hold trillions of tons of water onto a spinning globe while allowing birds and airplanes to fly.  Tell one of the Zombies the Earth never moves and they will ridicule you as a mental defective and tell you to take pills and see a psychiatrist.  Stupid young people don't grow smart as they age.  We live in an age of massive superstitious beliefs in BS like space ships and traveling to Mars when even the dullest child can see the Earth dwarves the Sun and the whole heliocentric model comes from religious fiction.

even the dullest child can see the Earth dwarves the Sun

When I was twelve that view was held by my five year old cousin. I said to him, "You see that house on that hilltop way over there? See how it looks small enough to hold in your hand even though you know it's much bigger than that? It's the same thing with the sun. It's much bigger than the Earth but it's so far away it looks small." My cousin understood. Funny that other's don't.

And don't overlook the statistic in the article, that you're 8x more likely to be killed by a COP (Constable On Patrol), than by a revenge-seeking terrorist.

Now let's talk about national priorities, and the misallocation of capital and resources, ZHers and Mr. President.

All part of MAGA?

The Zombies are an English rock band, formed in 1962 in St Albans and led by Rod Argent (piano, organ and vocals) and Colin Blunstone (vocals).

The group scored British and American hits in 1964 with "She's Not There". In the US two further singles, "Tell Her No" in 1965 and "Time of the Season" in 1968, were also successful. Their 1968 album Odessey and Oracle is ranked number 100 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

It's a choice. Live in fear or not. When your time is up, it's up.

Most live a fear-based life. I am striving every day to eradicate fear from my life.

It's said by some our souls may be millions of years old, and almost every person we meet in our human lives we have met before.

"The more bombs I get over the target area the more lethal I am," said Commanding Officer Capt. Rick McCormack, of the new $13B USS Gerald R. Ford attack aircraft carrier, still stuck in shake-down trials without a proven launch system. Get it?!

I got your zombies right here! Congress is giving the Luciferian Satanists $754B of your childrens' lost inheritance next year. That's 3x Reagan's budget in the Cold War. It's almost twice Nixon's $394B Viet Nam War budget or Bush Jr Iraq War budget!

FOR WHAT!? WAR!? WHERE!? THE PENTAGON LOST TRACK OF $8,000 BILLION DOLLARS IN DEMONIC ATTACKS AGAINST DESERT HILLBILLIES WHO HAD NO NAVY OR AIR FORCE!! THEY HAD TO GIVE TALIBAN AND ISIS WEAPONS TO KEEP IT GOING!

THE PENTAGON NO LONGER HAS ANY CONTROL OF THE BLEEDOUT!!

So $754B won't be enough, and the zombies will burn through their 2018 budget in six months, just like this year. Next the zombies will take over our SS and MC Trust Fund, and we will meekly mewl, "Oh, how could this happen to  US, we did not know!"

Then our children and our elderly will be abandoned in unheated apartments, while workers fight over cash gigs on street corners, servicing the Exceptionally Rich. The US now has nothing the World wants in trade except our food.

We will be just another starving diseased and over-populated Chiquita banana republic with a fat military:corporate junta.

The police, army, DEA, IRS, FBI, etc, are the enforcement agents of the government. If people agreed with most of what the government does, these enforcers would be highly respected; unfortunately the laws passed by the sociopaths who occupy government positions are not intended for much other than plunder and control, and the government and citizens are at odds. Bad laws foster disrespect.

When the government becomes our ruler instead of the protector of rights, of course the enforcers become in many cases, the enemy of the citizenry. The citizens come to fear the enforcers, and the enforcers perceive the citizens to be the enemy. The cycle of repression and resentment spirals upward with increasing violence.

This will not end well, as should already be evident. We are on a collision course with civil war with at least three camps being the opponents, (1)the present plunder and control establishment, (2)the communist/socialist/fascists insane left, and (3)those who place a high value on freedom. It is anyone's guess how this plays out, but it will end with violence when the pain and suffering brought to us by government exceeds the pain and suffering that enough of us estimate will come from fighting back. Just like the American Revolution and the Civil War were triggered by seemingly small events, so will the coming civil war be triggered by something unexpected and relatively inconsequential.

This is a well written piece. I agree, 'Merica in particular has a large zombie population. I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and went down to Fremont St. one night. It was like the bar scene from star wars with every form of weirdness you can imagine.

And I'm not just judging people partying, not at all. What I'm talking about are 60 year old women in see-through white tee shirts and pasties! When did that become a good idea? There were three or four people with carboard signs just outright begging. What is this, fucking Oliver Twist? One guy's sign said "Fuck You, I want whiskey". What is that about? These people are idiots but some bigger idiot probably gave him a dollar.

Most of these people are likely not Save-able but will work as camouflage if it really goes down like the author suggests. The volume of the masses is staggering, even if it's 3%. I will say this, the militarized police can practice all they want, preferably not on my dime. But if they decide to go for real they better make it quick and decisive because as soon as the word gets out that it's on, may God help them!

Jeff Sessions Wants Police To Steal More From Civilians, Fear of Arkancide prevents him from prosecuting Killary.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is one of the worst things to happen to the United States since voters were forced to choose between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. He’s continuing to ramp up the failed war on drugs by insisting the police steal even more cash from the citizens they are supposed to “protect and serve.”

“We hope to issue this week a new directive on asset forfeiture — especially for drug traffickers,” Sessions said in his prepared remarks for a speech to the National District Attorney’s Association in Minneapolis. “With care and professionalism, we plan to develop policies to increase forfeitures. No criminal should be allowed to keep the proceeds of their crime. Adoptive forfeitures are appropriate as is sharing with our partners.”

Give Me Some Truth's picture

Re: AG Sessions ramping up forfeiture efforts ... and bragging about it.

This is scary. Not good. Add it to the growing list that we zombies won't get agitated by. Instead, we will politely applaud this initiative.

Beware the government's wars on Drugs and Terrorism.

The Gun Is Good's picture

Indeed. Someone above talked about what could be a relatively insignificant event causing civil war. Being a resident of a legal marijuana state which also has laws protecting the production / sale of raw milk and other non-FDA / -USDA -regulated foodstuffs, I see it possibly being when Sessions' / Fedgov's attempt to overrule a state's law when they send the FBI goons in to SWAT / shoot / kidnap a pot grower / raw milk producer... since Sessions has such a hard-on to bust people for the small stuff....

Funny....to me, The Walking Dead is a prediction of things to come when the economy crashes 10x worse than 2008, or during an EMP attack.  The cast are the prepared folks who have survival means while the zombies are the the rest of the society who are desperate to survive off others.

"The TOTALITY OF BEINGS" - that includes YOU - "is the SINGLE OBJECT of a SINGULAR WILL TO CONQUER.... ... In the face of this abyss one can try to shut one's eyes. One can erect one illusion after another. THE ABYSS DOES NOT RETREAT."

Or, as your friendly neighborhood SWAT ("Sphincter Watching at All Times") Team might, more colloquially, put it to you at 2.30 in the morning:

The walking dead is a perfect metaphor for the recent generation who happened to be just docile on his/her job, pushing the button or just mundane labour not able to find spare time to check reality or not care much or less due to a different factor.Factors such as eating too much GMO burger and getting fat, stress of life making people work none stop, watching too much fake news as a real, etc

The majority 90% of humanity in the developed nation are living the matrix, hence are the walking dead no matter how they think about themselves.

I'll go out on a limb here and posit that if an audit were to occur it would show that those cops that generate the most convictions are also the ones getting the promotions. Cops are modern day Roman tax collectors.

Imagine, if you will, a judge showing up for work and not having anyone there to stand before his court. No one whose life could be destroyed by the state. No one to fine. No one to send away. Once an institution is created you then need to feed it.
