What Is It About 1906ET That Spooks Precious Metals 'Traders'?

Tyler Durden's picture

The always-efficient so-called markets exhibited some interesting behavior once again this evening.

First of all, Dow futures flash-smashed higher after re-opening following AAPL's earnings blow out, only to settle back down to reality very shortly after...

However, it was the precious metals 'markets' that went a little turbo. At 1906ET, Silver futures flash-smashed higher, running the day's high-stops, before plunging back to earth...

Gold futures also followed suit tonight...

This would normally be shrugged off as just another example of the utter farce that global capital markets have become. However, a glance back in recent history at the silver market's most recent chaos moment - on July 6th - and a 'funny' thing stood out!!!

Gold also followed suit that night too...

h/t @TFMetals

At exactly 1906 ET on July 6th, Silver futures flash-crashed (some say over 10%, though many data feeds have been subsequently 'cleansed' of that sin), before normalizing.

So what is it about 1906ET that sends the algos in overdrive? Or is it all just coincidence? Probably nothing, right?

It's deja vu all over again...

There is no market .. a pegged/set is not a market. Rigged...simple as that.

Some little bitch sitting there laughing at all the money they are "earning"

they are actually spending money to do it... you don't earn money hitting the bid like that. you flush it.

You all know by now how bullish I am on PM long term, right?
Well, right now I have turned bearish short term.
This recent breakout in gold has failed to be followed by Silver or the miners, and has been characterized by low volume and general lack of vigor.
I'm afraid another ten o'clock "fat finger mistake" is imminent.
Gold will probably need to retest its long term rising trend line before it swings higher in earnest.

I would love to be proven wrong on this, but right now this what I see.

I see bullion banks piling on the shorts again.  Crash is inevitable

When it breaks below $1000 I'll go to my LCS so he can tell me to fuck off.

I don't think we will ever see gold sub 1000$.
My bet is that it drops to 1180$ and after that the true bull run begins.

I think your on to something. One more wash and rinse before Indian wedding season. I think this might be the last time. Gold demand into Asia is apeshit right now and the Dollar is declining rapidly.

Bottom I see on gold is around 1185 and rising (trend) so if it does flash crash below that level and then bounce back above within the week, it will be very bullish going forward (buy with both fists).  I seriously doubt you'd see $1000 except on a flash crash.  Silver also looks to be headed for a big rip sometime in the near future as well.

Nice to hear others are seeing the same.

long-short's picture

hmmm

possible we'll see 1185 in a flash crash effort to take out 1200 stops that overshoots.

i'd say that idea's only 25% at best tho--you're running out of runway with seaonal strength here

plus quite a few bullish pressures for gold, not least continuing $ weakness.

in fact the best shot for that manicured flash crash would be a dollar rally to resistance

better be quick tho--$ weakness is nowhere near done yet.

the game is up--nobody believes fed anymore for sure...

Indeed. The bankster's control through paper contracts.

Just 3x long indexes. Soon the VIX will be at 3.

lol with the growing alt-media outcry of market rigging, "they" must have figured the flash crashes were a dead giveaway. so now it's flash smashes. either way, paper prices drift lower.

enjoy your games while you can, you bastards... a day of reckoning grows nigh.

ticker on coinflation.com "broke"... right on cue... so many puppets... their strings are getting all tangled

Latitude25's picture

Yeah well a couple of weeks ago gold flash crashed to minus $1200 too.  I now own 20000 tons and the FED paid me to take it.

Just means the machines broke and the humans had to be called in to scrub the candlestick chart.  This is all part of Yellems "no crisis in our lifetime" meme.
