Dubai's "Torch Tower", World's Fifth Tallest Residential Building, Is Engulfed In Flames

Tyler Durden's picture

A massive fire has engulfed the fifth tallest residential building in the United Arab Emirates, the 86-story Dubai Torch Tower - the same building which was also damaged in a major blaze in 2015 -  where social media footage showed flames spreading up much of building and burning debris falling down. According to BBC, civil defence officials have "successfully evacuated" the building and are now working to bring the fire under control.

Firefighting brigades from four stations have been sent to battle the flames at the Torch Tower, the fifth tallest residential building in the world.

It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze in one of the world's tallest buildings.

The fire is believed to have started on the ninth floor before ascending towards the top stories: “It's big fire started on 9th floor. Civil defence and police in the scene now to control the fire,” a Dubai police spokesperson told Gulf News.

Dubai’s Civil Defence Director General and Police Commander are at the scene coordinating the rescue efforts. “No injuries have been reported so far in the Torch Tower fire incident,” Dubai's media office said in a latest tweet.

The 79-story skyscraper opened in 2011, and it was the world's tallest residential building at its opening, but has since been surpassed by several others.

The Torch Tower is said to be the 32nd tallest building in the world, according to the Skyscraper Centre. It has 676 apartments.

Did it implode into its own footprint yet?

TBT or not TBT's picture

Was it built anything like WTC 1, 2, or 7?

tmosley's picture

Exactly.

Birdcage with floors bolted to the outer cage neccessitates a collapse into its own footprint. Complaining about that is like complaining that a marble dropped down a steel pipe doesn't explode out the side of said pipe.

J S Bach's picture

I don't think the Dubains have access to the thermite needed to implode large buildings the way our Mossad-infected government did with the twin towers.

It could burn for a week and the skeletal structure will remain firmly intact.  Need anymore proof about 9/11, doubters?  (I'm sure you do.  But, it's okay... you can go back to your baseball game and beer.)

"Torch Tower"
Kinda like Millstone, Turkey Point, Diablo Canyon.  Aptly named nukes
Nice high rise name  "Torch"

Like naming your little girl "Salope" after the neat name necklace that hooker in Paris had on you admired so much.

About as attractive as Nolan's Dunkirk.  Do Not Go There

NoDebt's picture

If you think "Torch Tower" is a bad name it's sister building the next block over is called "The Towering Inferno".

(1970s reference.  If you weren't around then, just keep on moving to the next comment.)

waiting for the asymetric fire to cause a symetric collapse in 3...2...1...OK in 3...2...1... Huh, why is it still standing? Oh wait, Larry 'pull it' Silverstein doesn't own that building does he. Nevermind.

any islam burning warms my heart.

French Bloke's picture

Well, it's certainly a torch now - a beacon of light. And just like the Kebab (grenfell) tower, no actual english people inside....

Harlequin001's picture

Remind me again why I didn't buy a condo in a high rise building?

de3de8's picture

The author writes "burning debris falling down". I guess it would have been better if it was falling up or maybe falling sideways.

moneybots's picture

WTC 7 was not a symmetric collape.

Floors in the east wing of the building collapsed first, underneath the East Penthouse.

You must be the poor guy designated by the company to play "moron of the day" on this board. Do they pay you well ?

Antifaschistische's picture

From the video, it appears to be building with the foam facade....and the foam is burning...you can see the pieces falling are light and falling slowly.

This is amazing that they would use this material on a building like this.

but...I could be wrong.    steel, glass and concrete do not burn like this....and it is not burning internally like the WTC

Only if you can fly there from Airport '76.

There has to be an OJ joke in there somewhere...

I thought I told Ahkmed to BBQ those goat steaks outside?

Like naming your little girl "Salope"...

That's funny. Salopé might give it that foreign je ne sais quoi.

French Bloke's picture

Loads of Salops in Paris. Very few are French though...

What will it take, to prove steel high rises won't collapse from an airplane impact and 'jet fuel fire'?

Koba the Dread's picture

Probably some architects and engineers could tell you that. . .if anyone asked them.

hitex's picture

Glad to know Im not the only one who began thinking about this. WTC 7 fire was way less burdensome before collapse than this! and its now happened 2 times and looks quite stable.

Mr 9x19's picture

is that was the event promised by the donald at 18h30 ET ?

hitex's picture

remember, he is a time traveler after all

J S Bach's picture

If you understand physics, hitex... you understand the truth.  Period.  Alas, most pea-brains do not. (Nor would they care anyway... so long as their bellies are full and their brains anesthetized.)

Koba the Dread's picture

Yes, physics helps but, my gawd, there was a time in this country where common sense also worked pretty well. These days common sense is a very rare, uncommon trait. Global warming, anyone?

moneybots's picture

Each fire is unique to its circumstances.

THE WTC7 fire was in a building with a different design than other buildings and the building was struck by debris from a collapsing WTC1, which caused unique damage to the building. Also uniquely, the NYFD never fought the fire. The NYFD expected WTC7 would collapse and it later did.

hitex's picture

oh please, what garbage you preach!

It collapsed at free fall speed! with that many floors and no resistive force from any of those floors to slow down the collapse - and as tho it doesnt look EXACTLY like an old Vegas resort demolition

Dame Ednas Possum's picture

As a master's educated chartered professional civil engineer with 25 years designing, building and maintain civil assets please be assured that WTC 7 was a controlled demolition.

A '6.5 second freefall descent of 47 storeys into it's own footprint' kinda controlled demolition.

The official narrative is credible as Jimmy Saville.

"The official narrative is credible as Jimmy Saville. "

And as perverted...

And as dead...

I guess you bought into the magic bullet theory too.

Never mind WT7.... Look at pics of WT6 ... with its exterior walls intact & a gaping hole in the middle... where's the fucking rubble ??

veritas semper vinces's picture

Spot on.

It's amaizing to me that there are people still believing the official story. You need to live in an alternate Universe, with different laws of physics to believe it.

And  there aare the minor details of who benefitted from it and who gained(aka follow the money),and who had access to do it.And why no gov response(all those mighty, mighty agencies and military all protecting us,worth billions and they were totaly impotent against boxcutters.Ha!)

moneybots's picture

The Twin Towers were a unique design, as you well know.

The totally out of control fires were the cause of their collapse.

moneybots's picture

Down votes, you know i am right.

hitex's picture

take your NIST report and go elsewhere with this garbage

DjangoCat's picture

We'll be watching.  Time to burn yet.

Eyes Opened's picture

Very very frightening...

Akzed's picture

The rubble pile was almost non-existent. Cars at the curb were left uncovered.

The Towers did not fall down, implode, or collapse. They were disintegrated fom the top down.

www.wheredidthetowersgo.com

TheEndIsNear's picture

Not to mention the fact that the rubble was filled with molten steel for two weeks after the demolitions, with temperatures exceeding 1500 degrees Fahrenheit according to NASA satellite IR imaging. Only explosives and incendiaries with their built-in oxidizers can achieve those kind of temperatures. Air fueled fires cannot burn that hot. Firefighters on the scene described it as looking like a foundry.

hitex's picture

EXACTLY - the smoke color also indicated the fire was oxygen starved as well - that doesnt get you molten steel

moneybots's picture

Explosives do not produce copious quantities of molten steel, just as a cutting torch doesn't.

Fantasy is not reality.

Eyes Opened's picture

You've never used an oxy-acetylene torch... have u ??

I have, many times, & it produces molten metal, how'da fuck u think it works ?? Evaporation ??   LOL !!

I have 911 photos of burnt cars, firetrucks, half burnt cars, with perfect paint on one part of the car and torched right next to the clean area.  Paper in the vehicles and plastic bottles in a torched truck untouched.  What ever set these vehicles on fire, dozens of them, and not even near where the Towers were.  The website is still up, but it is old because the host died, and the family keep it up in the host's honor.  the link is gone and I can not find the same photos anywhere.  I have to sort through them to get ready to post them.  I just have not done that work yet.
