Trump Boasts Of America's "Most Powerful" Nuclear Arsenal Ever

Tyler Durden's picture

While Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is quietly tamping down the flames of nuclear armageddon rhetoric, it appears President Trump is more than willing to play 'bad cop' with his bombing bragadocio. In a first tweet, he takes credit for "renovating" America's nuclear arsenal...

And then, while appearing to suggest he wouldn't press the big red button, makes it very clear how he feels about America's position in the world...

All of which should be put in the context of his 1999 discussion with Tim Russert on what he would do to North Korea (pre-emptive strike)....

Just back the hell off......or else!

It's always cute.......until someone gets hurt.

To quote a line from a US general in The Hunt for Red October: "oh my god, they got a mad man on their hands."

And now the mad man is not a defecting Soviet submarine commander, but some orange clown with a Twitter account sitting in the Oval Office of the White House.

"......there will never be a time that we are not the most powerful nation in the world!"

Careful with those double negatives Mr. President. You could hurt someone...including yourself.

"... there will never be a time that we are not the most powerful nation in the world!"

Now there's a statement that every right-thinking ZH'er can get behind!

This guy is sounding more and more like an out of touch Roman Emperor every day...

Cognitive Dissonance's picture

In Trump's defense, we like our maniacs to be well spoken and potty trained. It helps keep the illusion alive and kicking.

Seriously....most arguments against Trump come down to he talks and acts like a buffoon. That doesn't make him a bad president, just a bad illusion supporter.

"And now the mad man is not a defecting Soviet submarine commander, but some orange clown with a Twitter account sitting in the Oval Office of the White House."

Technically speaking, he's not sitting in the Oval Office.  He's on a 17 day golf vacation.

barndoor's picture

You don't hear a lot about the golfing on ZH these days.

It was a big topic during the Obama administration though.  I wonder what has caused people here to change their attitudes?

Whatever could it be?

barndoor's picture

DJT sounds like he's been watching a lot of Games of Thrones during his vacation.

That last episode has been playing on my mind as well.

Hey - everyone needs a break for Fox News every once in a while.

I'm a bit surprised though that he would watch TV where he isn't mentioned fro time to time. He probably thinks that Jamie Lanister is portraying him.  Think about it - there are A LOT of similarities.  Wealthy family is obvious, as are the romantic proclivities.

Wow. Replying to your own replies. It's fun now but when when it becomes a trend?

Trump actually getting positive things done for the country.

Yeah - I'm not going to open your reddit list to hear about how great Trump is (just like I avoided HuffPo for hard-hitting news about Hillary).

MillionDollarButter's picture

Yeah, I imagine the lifecycle of development for a nuclear weapon is under 7 months. @_@

Trump is well known for his hyperbole.

If the peanut gallery had read "The Art of the Deal", they would know this.

But we all know peanutz don't read.

barndoor's picture

"Trump is well known for his hyperbole"

Hyperbole is just a fancy/elitist word for lying.

Also, not a great strategy when it come to potential nuclear conflict.

How many tweets did it take him to write it?

Trump: I want this nuclear arsenal upgraded now General.

General: You mean right now Sir?

Trump: Right this very instant. I want you to do it right now, right now or your fired.

General: Uh...yes Sir. (picks up screwdriver, fiddles with equipment) Whew, OK Sir it was a tough job but we got her done.

Trump: So now it's the best?

General: Best in the world Sir.

Trump: That's what I wanted to hear.

Drumpet has talked himself into a corner & his ego doesn't let him back down. I think the only what this ends well is if trump resigns or is removed from office. As it stands we are now on the fast track to nuclear war.

"In Trump's defense, we like our maniacs to be well spoken and potty trained. "

There is no defense for Trump, he is just a bad president. That said, Hitlery would have been just as bad if not worse. There are no good guys, only weasels and egos. What we really need is Washington DC to go away.

Aaagh. Said Roman Emperors, Kings of England, France, Spain, Ottoman Sultans?, Etc.

Said, Al Davis about the Oakland Raiders

Ted Turner about the Atlanta Braves

Jimmy Johnson about the Miami Hurricanes

Even Mike DuBose (Mike Shula, Dennis Franchione, Mike Price) about my beloved Crimson Tide

Said Fonzie about "Happy Days" ... before he put on water skis and jumped that shark.

I do not think this is about blustering at all. I think this is a strategy. Donald may actually be learning what is really at stake. That is very good.

Re: "We've got a Mad man on our hands ..."

I can't completely shake the image of Trump as the president in the book/movie "The Dead Zone" (portrayed memorably by Martin Sheen).

Give Me Some Truth's picture

Is anyone else starting to think that certain personality types should not have access to the nuclear codes? Whether our arsenal of nuclear weapons are "new and improved" or perhaps a little dusty or in need of a fresh coat of paint is probably not particularly important.

Krungle's picture

Just the personality types that would actually use them. Unfortunately that happened to be nearly all the available candidates....

"You would have rather had Hillary?"

How about the other option: "None of the above". I didn't vote for either. I was pretty certain before the election that nothing good would come from Drumpet.

They all suck, they just get increasing bad. I am sure the next president (if there is a next one) will double down and be much worse that all the rest.

This was the same during the final years of the Roman empire, when worse of the worse kept on getting selected.

Let's assume what you say is true, that previous administration failed in this regard..

Tell me this - did you survive that failure?

thinkmoretalkless's picture

Previous administration was the best thing that could have happened to me at that time. Made some changes and sleep like a baby. Best thing was getting out of the city...didn't realize what a pain in the ass that shit was.

I've been low-grade prepping for a while, mostly Au, Ag, Pb.

But now I may actaully make the move to homesteading.

This shit is on its last legs - although I feel it has little to do with Obama.  I'm way more worrid about Trump.
