China Warns Trump: "We Will Prevent A North Korea Regime Change"

Tyler Durden's picture

In a troubling repudiation of President Donald Trump’s demands that Beijing do more to rein in its bellicose neighbor, Beijing, through the state-owned media, cautioned the US president on Friday that it would intervene (militarily) on North Korea’s behalf if the US and South Korea launch a preemptive strike to “overthrow the North Korean regime,” according to a statement in the influential state-run newspaper Global Times.

"If the U.S. and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so," it said.

At the same time, the Chinese regime  made it clear that its preferred outcome would be a continuation of the status quo, warning Kim Jong Un that it would "remain neutral if North Korea were to strike first." The article, cited by Rueters,  reiterated calls for a diplomatic solution. However, the possibility of talks between the two sides was looking increasingly remote as both Trump and Kim continued to exchange threats of nuclear annihilation, with Trump clarifying Thursday that his earlier promise to respond with “fire and fury” should the North continue to threaten the US may not have gone far enough.

China - North Korea's most important ally and trading partner -  has reiterated calls for calm during the current crisis. Beijing has expressed frustration with both Pyongyang's repeated nuclear and missile tests and with behavior from South Korea and the United States, such as military drills, that it sees as escalating tensions.

"China should also make clear that if North Korea launches missiles that threaten U.S. soil first and the U.S. retaliates, China will stay neutral," the Global Times, which is widely read but does not represent government policy, said in an editorial.

Meanwhile, as the North may be planning its next ICBM launch, the US is stepping up military exercises with Japan and South Korea.

“On Thursday, U.S. and Japanese troops began an 18-day live fire exercise on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, which was to include rocket artillery drills and involve 3,500 troops. The Northern Viper drills are one of the scheduled exercises that Japan's Self Defense Forces conducts regularly with their U.S. counterparts and are not a response to the latest tensions. South Korean and U.S. troops are also gearing up for an annual joint drill from Aug. 21, called the Ulchi Freedom Guardian, in which up to 30,000 U.S. troops will take part.”

US officials were also discussing coordinated contingency plans on Friday to formulate exactly how the allies would respond to an attack.

“South Korea's national security adviser Chung Eui-yong and his U.S. counterpart H.R. McMaster spoke on the phone for 40 minutes early on Friday, a spokesman for the presidential Blue House in Seoul said. The two discussed responses to North Korean provocations and the security situation on the Korean peninsula, he said.”

Not surprisingly, analysts have compared the standoff between the two nuclear powers (the North is a recent, if untested, member of this club) to a modern day Cuban Missile crisis.  "This situation is beginning to develop into this generation's Cuban Missile crisis moment," ING's chief Asia economist Robert Carnell said in a research note. "While the U.S. president insists on ramping up the war of words, there is a decreasing chance of any diplomatic solution."

Judging by the markets' reaction in the past 48 hours, this troubling reality has finally filtering through to risk assets.

China Warns Trump: "We Will Prevent A North Korea Regime Change"

Looks pretty much like an ultimatum to me.
Is the USA ready for Chinese nukes to take out many of their cities.
You better be.
And you won't be half as keen on the war, death, bloodshed and destruction you have inflicted across half the planet - when you get a taste yourself.
There won't be much sympathy.
Just leave NK alone.

overmedicatedundersexed's picture

china has the key to NK..why will they not use it?..does anyone of an IQ above room temp here understand why china does not remove Kim? I see no real upside to china unless they want war more than bush did in his Iraq madness..NK getting nukes that can reach japan and areas of usa helps china how?

Pacman7293's picture

China hates Japan since forver. They also hate the USA. They hate anyone non-chinese bascially. But cover it up with their pretntious "culture".

As a minimum, China will help take out SK and force the US to evacuate its tranny army.

He's forgive them, of course. So should the US, and by doing so stay on the moral high ground.

he would condemn them all to hell

China just became neutral in the eyes of N Korea. Another wise move by the Chinese. They understand that just removing the "threat" is never enough for the US. For the US, war has to be an "investment", followed by pipelines and fast food restaurants. The US has given itself and its real motives away for some time now. The mask is off.

Pacman7293's picture

They are saying they will attack the USA if we have a conflict with North Korea. That's what it means.

Looks like "beautiful chocolate cake" ain't workin according to plan for China's next round of USD purchases

This was never about North Korea. This is about the next Trillion $$$ purchase that Yankee Jewdle needs from China that is dumping it's holdings of U.S. Ts that is on "life support" in order to keep the delusion of prosperity for 1% of 300 million people in North America living at the rest of the World's expense!

P.S.

Don't forget about the Russian Federation that is the most significant "silent partner" to China in this PR campaign by the U.S.

Hint: I see this project being abandoned shortly for asymmetric "fun and games" to take place somewhere in the Baltic States and Ukraine as well as Syria getting another look see for syphilis-in-chief's powerful naval "armada" to investigate!

flapdoodle's picture

Just my opinion but the last paragraph I think you got backwards. North Korea is the fun and games taking place to counter the fun and games taking place in the Baltics and Ukraine.

Think about it - the (((neo-cons))) would really just prefer that North Korea go away, which since the back-stabbing at Sochi (a.k.a. now as the Ukraining "liberation"), they have had a boner for retaking the Khazarian homeland, the true home of the "Jews". Little Kim is dividing the attention of the Deep State from their real goal.

Son of Captain Nemo's picture

No fd you stupid greedy Kike

My interpretation is that Yankee Jewdle can't win at either game which is why they will just go somewhere else to start shit up they can't finish against the immovable object that the PCR and Russian Federation represent given there track record at homing in on smaller prey they wind up losing in the end to as well...

Ask the Western inhabitants of Ukraine how well that project has come out 3 years later and "why" Porko-Jew is never seen wandering around the State buildings much in Kiev and is instead in the bowels of some bunker with the likes of Ihor Kolomoisky and Hunter Biden when they are not in Tel Aviv together?!!!

Omega_Man's picture

This chinese position opens USA to easily do a false flag... I suppose something else will happen in the background to get Russia involved.... such as in Ukraine, or India will take orders to fight on china's border.

Pacman7293's picture

Yes but no matter what happens the USA will be wrong as far as China is concerned.

Generally, we see little movement in the list of the "Worlds 10 Worst Problems" when they are counted down from least to most crucial. The fact is we would be remiss or negligent not to do some serious reshuffling to reflect the drum beats of war flowing out of Washington and North Korea. Please note, the leap from fourth to first place for "Weapons of war and mass destruction" is very significant because it can be very difficult to get this particular genie back in the bottle once it is out.

Like many people, I do not find what is known as the concept of Mutual Assured Destruction, or MAD to be reassuring. What the world would look like following a nuclear war is very murky, yet today it seems many people consider nuclear weapons as just another tool or option available to solve pesky disputes. The current list of the "Worlds 10 Worst Problems" are listed in the article below.

Will remain neutral, militarily.  A moral and even an economic anchor nevertheless.  Even that will change, once China becomes more powerful than the West, that being their wish.

I recall long time back a visiting Chinese head-of-state had boasted that thir missiles can hit Los Angeles.

So Mr. Chubby-Two-Nukes is merely the midget walking in the footsteps of his mentor.

Sandmann's picture

I bet US missiles could hit LA too........no matter where they are aimed

These wars seem to be planned out. If you look at what is going on with India and China, World War 3 is about to start.  I wouldn't call this nothing.  Our media is silent about the india/china side of the conflict, but it doesn't look like that situation is going to be resolved without military intervention.

"The world is on the verge of radical change. We see how the European Union is gradually collapsing, as is the US economy -- it is all over for the new world order. So, it will never again be as it was before, in 10 years we will have a new world order in which the key will be the union of China and Russia. "

Either the US allies with Russia, which it obviously should, or China gets them as an ally. Kind of obvious, except to the moronic masses swallowing establishment propaganda that "communist China is great while mixed economy Russia is terrible". Its time put Crimea in the past where it is and where it belongs. Its Ukraine's fault for giving Russia their nukes and I don't see why Trump should blame Russia more than Ukraine for the stupidity of what happened. "Oh I promise if you give me your nukes I'll be nice to you". LOL, oh yeah, Ukraine had it coming, idiots. I'd just tell Russia keep going until its half gone and we'll stop you there because Ukraine had it coming to them in all fairness.

Honestly I was hoping that this nation (excludes all of the war pigs, and that is a feedlot full) would pivot to the ONLY sustainable future which is a tri-polar world, with about 20 mini-polars, freely trading on a gold standard while raising the quality of life for all.

Nahh, lets just keep democracy weapons falling on innocents in the name of our freedom. Yeah, that is a working plan !

Debugas's picture

so the real problem is US armed forces on Korean peninsula !!!

both Koreas could have merged together long ago if US troops agreed to leave the peninsula

Sandmann's picture

The US refuses face-to-face negotiations with N Korea. There is no Peace Treaty after 64 years. The US conducts annual military exercises in S Korea every year  just as it is now starting to do on Russia's borders.

With US track record it is clear why everyone wants nuclear weapons

Pacman7293's picture

None of these counteries that we destroyed did much to appease the USA beforehand. The world should respect a leader.

historian40's picture

That's bs.

Afghanistan requested the US provide evidence of bin Laden's accused crimes before they would release them.  Bush said there's no question of guilt or innocence, "we know he did it".  All they asked for was evidence and the long dragged out war could have been prevented, IF that is what it was about.  It wasn't, since the US was already attacking that nation by proxy before the excuse of bin laden and 9/11 was invented.

Libya gave up their "WMD", and shortly therafter attacked and destroyed.

Iraq jumped through hoops of inspectors and shaming for a decade, all the while the US softened that nation up with starvation sanctions, and then attacked based on lies anyway.

Syria gave up their chemical weapons only to be accused and attacked anyway.

Ukraine moved toward Russia, so the US STate Dept overthrew their government and created yet another failed State.

Iran has bent over backwards to appease the US, and to this day the warmongers are still trying to convince the world the Iranians want to nuke the world with some secret atomic super weapon.

You can't appease the empire.  You can just obey wholely on all points or be killed.

homiegot's picture

I guess Bill Clinton's deal with N Korea didn't count?

HRClinton's picture

Yes, and the US conducts these military exercises during NK's harvest time, to force them to divert farmers to defense, and thus starving the country.

The (((Usurpers))) shout in pain, as they strike you.  The world is getting wise to (((them))).

We have negotiated all right. Clinton gave them ICBM technology. We gave them free trade in exchange for cheap goods and profits for corporations. Time to pay the piper.  Our leaders were not thinking about what was best 7 generations down the road.

I told people China will not reign in NK for the west just so it can set up another puppet regime like SK. China is in alliance with NK, Syria, Iran, and Russia to take on the US fiat dollar.
