North Korea Says Army Is "On Standby Waiting For An Order Of Attack"

Tyler Durden's picture

Global markets are closed for the weekend, so we will need to wait until tomorrow evening to see how investors react to the latest back-and-forth between the North Korean government and President Donald Trump. In North Korea’s latest salvo in its war of words, a state-run newspaper declared in an editorial that the country’s Paektusan army is now “on standby to launch fire into its [the US’s] mainland, waiting for an order of final attack."

The comments follow a Friday report from KBS World Radio, the official international broadcasting station of South Korea (which is owned by the Korean Broadcasting System), that "North Korean authorities have dispatched emergency standby orders to the leaders of the ruling Workers’ Party committees and civil defense units."

Here’s more from Fox News:

“North Korea took its turn Saturday in the country’s escalating, back-and-fourth with President Trump, with the state-run newspaper saying leader Kim Jung Un’s revolutionary army is “capable of fighting any war the U.S. wants.”

The assertion was made in an editorial that also states the Paektusan army is now “on the standby to launch fire into its mainland, waiting for an order of final attack."

The editorial also argues that the United States ‘finds itself in an ever worsening dilemma, being thrown into the grip of extreme security unrest by the DPRK. This is tragicomedy of its own making. … If the Trump administration does not want the American empire to meet its tragic doom in its tenure, they had better talk and act properly.’”

Late last week, in a response to domestic criticism about Trump’s bellicose commentary, the president said that his rhetoric concerning North Korea - particularly his now infamous promise to respond with “fire and fury and…power” if North Korean leader Kim Jong Un continues to threaten the US - may not have been “tough enough.”

* * *

Fox also reported that Chinese leader Xi Jinping pleaded with Trump to tone down his rhetoric during a Friday night phone call with the US president.

“During Trump’s phone conversation Friday with Xi, the Chinese leader also requested that the U.S. and North Korea tone down their recent rhetoric and avoid actions that could worsen tensions between the two nations, Chinese Central Television reported.

‘At present, the relevant parties must maintain restraint and avoid words and deeds that would exacerbate the tension on the Korean Peninsula,’ Xi was quoted as saying.”

As we noted last night, it doesn’t look like Xi was able to sweet-talk Trump into once again delaying an investigation into China’s trade practices that many expect will lead to an all-out trade war between the world’s two largest economies. China is North Korea’s only major benefactor, and is responsible for 90% of the country’s foreign trade. Trump’s decision comes despite an IMF warning last month that “inward-looking” policies could derail a global recovery that has so far been resilient to raising tensions over trade. We also have noted the tendency, throughout history, for trade wars to blossom into the real thing…

Indeed, it seems that relations between the two world powers are deteriorating once again even after Trump praised China for signing off on the latest round of UN Security Council sanctions against the North – which are expected to reduce North Korea’s exports by more than $1 billion.

But despite Xi’s repeated jawboning and half-hearted promises to act, China has so far been reluctant to take meaningful action to curb North Korea’s nuclear program. Now any effort would probably be too little, too late, as the US and Japan now believe the North has developed a nuclear warhead small enough to fit inside on of its ICBMs. This newfound capability could allow the North to deliver a nuclear payload to the US mainland – a fact that was not lost on global markets this week.

The escalating tensions between NK and the US – particularly Kim Jong Un’s threat to launch a missile at Guam, a US island territory in the Pacific – helped keep the S&P 500 below its 50DMA for the longest stretch since April

…and the Chinese VIX to its highest level of the year.

On Monday, we will learn if US investors are sufficiently terrified to dump stocks…or if “buy-the-f**king-all-out-nuclear-war-dip becomes the mantra of the day.

Kim would be a fool if he went on the offensive "from inside" NK against anyone.

From outside NK?

Go ahead Mrs. Kim, launch those 4 missles at Guam.

All the U.S. really needs to do is take out Kim.  But...almost a 60 year-old proxy war with Communist China.

Aye...there's the rub.

Son of Captain Nemo's picture

And all it really comes down to eb is that the Americans need to live with the understanding that China isn't going to be "purchasing" another $5 trillion tranche of worthless green petrodollar "shit paper" with their Au so that Yankee Jewdle can turn around (yet again) to threaten them 2 years later with the next life support "tranche"!...

It's nothing but "dump" the USD FROM HERE ON OUT!

Well I can feel it in my bones...

there is something else going on

Trump is not dumb regardless of what people might think and he is not a risk taker, he wouldn't be able to build his empire on continues risk taking, I think he is teasing KIM because he wants to see how far can he go

Kim's honour and opinion is all he got, and he might be a paper tiger after all.. North Korea army is in shit state the only thing they got is their ICBM

if Kim shows weakness nobody in his country will respect him and Trump is trying to froce Kimt o put his money where his mouth is. We know that's not a problem for US

all he is waiting for is a bit of action....

or no action at all..

the question remains.. is Kim that stupid ?

I think Trump already saw his weakness and big mouth (Trump got big mouth himself but at least he got some track record of success)

Kim was educated abroad he likes basketball, photography and traveling around he abused his power few times but he is really trying to be a good leader (he is better than his father was) inside Kim is crying for help he is not going to get

he got few options

1) suicide

2) calling this off

I think he will go with suicide, he will not risk life of his people that's all he got

North Korea is his country and country of his father and grand father and he spend some time building shit up. He is proud of it. And now he will let Trump destroy it ?

he is also young and immature

"What separates the winners from the losers is how a person reacts to each new twist of fate."
D. TRUMP

I have a funny feeling Trump got Russia on his side

but it's not official

Putin don't care about sanctons he never have he know how to get around them and I'm sure last time Trump meet up with Putin they spoke about it and Trump said to him ... Listen.. Congress will do what Congress normally does and I have to sign this shit I have no choice

In the end Those sanctions can only hurt Merkel and nobody else anyway Nord Stream is still going ahead and nobody is saying anything ? did Trump just closed his eye on it ?

Only allience with Russia could allow Trump to fuck with China

he is not that stupid to pissed off the whole world

or is he ?

in my opinion....

Trump wants to collapse the Markets ;) he wants to reshape the world and draw some new lines he needs military on his side and he needs victory to lead this country

I would like to remind everybody what trump was talking about DOW jones and Dott Frank

all of a sudden he likes it ? nope I don't think so... and he is talking about new record highs in dow jones ?

nope... if conclicts starts market collapse

Fed might think they will blame this on Trump

but now Trump can blame this on North Korea ;) and start fresh !

he dont eve have to go to WAR he just have to push this further and further

in the end of the day this might be the greatest PLAY of all..... and main players in that are Putin Trump and Xi

maybe this was all planned in advance... greates plan to FUCK LEFT in the ass..

I don't know how you come to your conclusions other than you feel something. Second I don't believe that Trump has a lot of power, it is the deep state that rules.

nekcif's picture

Agree with most of your points, and some great out of the box thoughts..

Trump as a business man knows the only way to get the US back in order is to strengthen its role in the world. The biggest strategic mistake the US has made was to let jobs and businesses being outsourced to China in particular. With little foresight, it should have been obvious that such a populous tightly controlled nation would become a monster down the road when they amassed enough industry and knowhow. This move on the US part was shortsighted for a quick buck made, and political corruption, Clinton satelite launching technology, etc. accelerated they military prowness as well.

The only way to attempt to contain and partially reverse this is through economic strength, cut corporate taxes for manufacturing businesses to 0%, cut other rates as well, except financial industry! You will see how quickly manufacturing will move back to US.

Yes, goods and products will become more price in the meantime, but wages will rise, and in the midterm surpass the increases in goods.
Inflation will kick in high gear due to this, and that will accelerate the reduction in debt after a temporary significantly increase, like in a war time, just this time the war will be economic.

This will be the only way to maintain the superior role of the US, and become the beacon of the world again.

We would change to trade surpluses over time, and any future outsourcing should be strategically consider to many smaller countries in south america and Africa, this will prevent the ascent of one single rivalry nation again.

I think Trump has a similar idea/strategy in mind, he knows it is the only way out, and the right way.

He knows we, and the world for that matter are at the end of the financial shenanigan....and when the global finance system collapses, the country coming out the best after times of quarrel, and loss of confidence in financial instruments, is a country that brings stability back in, the huge US military helps, but a country needs to be selfsustainable to be independent and able to weather the storm when other countries, especially China cut of their supplies and demand depts to be paid when shtf, and even the US is always being talked down, the US is extraordinary in that regard, and its people will pull together, even if it does not look this way right now, with all the quarrel and division in the country...

A NK conflict might just be what we need to set it off with the least colleteral damage to us......

Keep in mind that his often confusing, contradicting, bordering on comedy like comments.....the savings due to expelled diplomats from russia ........Priceless....are in my opinion made intentionally to create Chaos, ridicule the press, congress, etc.

This behaviour does not harm him, because the people who elected him either liked because of this, or the others who voted for him do not care about that, because they knew what they get during the campaign. The one who did not vote for him would either never vote for him, or only once they see what he accomplishes for the country. I honestly think he would win with a wider margin today then in November...

You think he is incompetent due to his behaviour, but he has already acomplished allot given the opposition he is facing from the swamp.

These are my humble thoughts......and just as a sidenote, I am a 2-1/2 year naturalized US citizen, and proud of our country, and so relieved that Trump became President, and even more happy that I coul cast my first presidental vote for him, otherwise the ship would have sailed for good, and no turning back......

...sorry for the length, I had even more to add......

I have no fucking idea what's going on over on the next street, let alone what's going on in NK.  Leave 'em alone, for Christssakes...

edotabin's picture

I suppose there are a few lunatics that want war. I 'm definitely not one of them.

KJU would be wise to negotiate a position of figurehead and allow the Korean people to unite in peace. It will take them a very long time to fully integrate anyway so he'll live out his life as exalted whatever the hell he wants to call himself and all will be well. Not a single shot fired. Historically, he would go down as the Great Visionary who united his country instead of being some dark footnote of history.

It's understood many here are furious over previous ginned up wars. I was against many of them myself but to defend people like Kim is counterproductive. By exposing certain things we can, over time, make a change. We can discuss, analyze, make fun of and even curse at leaders, the system, MIC, Z- iOS, the FED, fractional reserve. Look at what the Internet and two words "Fake News" have done to the media. So yeah, I'd much rather live as I do now rather than being executed by an anti-aircraft gun because I don't like someone's haircut. And i definitely don't want to be threatened by them constantly either.

So, I know I've bored everyone (myself included) with this idea (and alternate versions thereof) over the past week or so but you gotta try. China isn't the same as back then, Russia isn't either. We can't allow 70 year old wounds (and that's what Kim is) to fester.

Does anyone here want a zucchini for free?  I hate to throw food away but it is starting to get out of control.  All from one plant.  We should bomb North Korea with zucchinis at this time of year.

I'll add a couple bushels of tomatoes to your zucchinis.... Then there are all those brussel sprouts which not only hurt like hell when dropped from a mile up, but smell to high heaven as they start to really spoil!

Manipuflation's picture

I have too many cucumbers.  Our tomatoes aren't ripe yet but there plenty of them.  I'll take some Brussels sprouts from you.  I love those.  I'll give you my overstock of broccoli in return.  Look at that, it is the fresh garden produce trade on ZH.  No taxes, we'll just barter.  And we are doing it because we can.

I crossed some Sugar Anne peas with some Russian snap peas some years ago and still have seed.  It is time to plant them.  You really have to see this hybrid in action.  Mendel would be proud.  I had a friend who did a garden with me one summer and he started to call the peas "The Federal Reserve Peas" because they never stop.

It is all cool and it is about sharing between neighbors and not edicts by the fucking state.

I think it would be a good idea to remove all US troops from the Asian arena.  The western most US troops should be in Hawaii.  No ships, no planes, no tanks, etc. west of Hawaii.  Then what would Kim have against the US if we leave him alone?  Hell, for 1 billion dollars, the USA could buy the Lakers and give them to Kim so he could have his own NBA team.  After all, 1 billion dollars would be close to the cost of ONE DAY of a major war - we would be getting off cheap and could finally concentrate on our OWN problems of which there are many...

Herodotus's picture

Let the Japs takeover Korea once again.  They seem to have done a good job of keeping the place under control in the past.

edotabin's picture

LOL but he'd want the Golden State Warriors next and before you know it he would have the NK-NBA going on. He, of course, would be the starting center :-)

So I wonder how Washington likes being the opening act?

Cause you gotta know that the US v North Korea is really just the undercard for China v India.

Talk about locked and loaded those two countries really are ready to rock.

I really hope it doesn't happen but if it does I hope Trump has the good sense to stay the fuck out of it.

newmacroman's picture

Yup, same card US played in Ukraine to open a second front for Russia to deal with while the real target was Syria. US is now pulling the strings on the Indian puppet to open a second front to distract China while NK is the target.

Strategically cunning even if neither Russia or China fell for it.
