"Appeasement Will Not Work": Trump Responds To North Korea "Hydrogen Bomb" Test

Tyler Durden's picture

Following remarks from the leaders of South Korea and Japan, President Donald Trump has responded to North Korea's latest "perfect" nuclear test, emphasizing that South Korea's "talk of appeasement will not work," and that Kim Jong Un and his government "only understand one thing!" He added that the nuclear test is an embarrassment...to China.

In both tone and substance, Trump's response echoed his tweet from last week when he said that the US's policy of paying the North "extortion money" wasn't working, and that "talking is not the answer" to the North's nuclear threat, although it is unclear if the latest provocation will prompt the US president to do anything more than just jawbone again.

Elsewhere, China's foreign ministry said that North Korea had conducted the nuclear test “with no regard to the general objections of the international community." It added that it "strongly condemns" the test and that China would be willing to work with the UN Security Council to pass even more restrictive sanctions.

“The Chinese government resolutely opposes and strongly condemns this,” the ministry said in a statement.

“China will work together with the international community to comprehensively and completely implement the relevant resolutions of the Security Council of the UN, unswervingly push forward the denuclearization of the peninsula, and unswervingly maintain the peace and stability of the peninsula,” it said.

China's foreign ministry also once again called for the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Easy solution.

Invite Chinese troops into South Korea.

Withdraw all US troops from South Korea.

Ultimatum to DPRK & China. Stop your missiles & nukes or we will bomb them from afar.

Downside? No, there isn't one.

No US troops in SK to be shot up.

North Korea is a rogue nation which has become a great threat and embarrassment to China

Embarrassment to China? China??? Really???

Just stop yanking Little Kim’s chain, for fuck’s sake! Fire and fury my ass!   ;-)

Of course talking is not the answer when the talk consists only of threats and demands. Too bad the US believes that diplomacy consists of threats and demands.

When this is all over, the survivors will wonder why the US was so afraid of actual diplomacy.

It's so easy to see the world as good guys vs bad guys. The reality is that it's almost always our bad guys vs their bad guys. Good guys generally don't have the stomach for all the lying and murdering it takes to get into power.

US sanctions is what’s triggering North Korea actions. The best Trump can do is to go back to Clinton’s policy, which cooled off North Korea military buildup.

I strongly believe war with North Korea is built in the cake, otherwise the US economy will resemble Brazil in about 5/7 years.

Wondering why?

To Make America Great Again you’ll need these customers, and their energy.

About 75 per cent of the world's people live in Eurasia, and most of the world's physical wealth is there as well, both in its enterprises and underneath its soil. Eurasia accounts for about three-fourths of the world's known energy resources."

Isn't it funny, or actually embarrassing, how the US of A complains all the time about other nations "being hostile towards the US" while the US is the most hostile power on earth versus about 80% of the entire planet. The way the USA threatens everybody with destruction (except their obedient lakais, as long asd they are obedient) one cannot but wonder when  the "rest" of the world (i.e. the huge majority) one day decides that enougb is enough and that one has to preemptively destroy the biggest danger to world peace out there, i.e. the Washington deep state

'military response'

""They only understand one thing': America and South Korea agree to 'military response' after North Korea celebrates its most powerful nuclear test ever which sparked 6.3 magnitude quake""

Donald Trump has warned that North Korean officials 'only understand one thing'
He also complained that appeasement 'will not work' in the dramatic tweets
US and South Korean leaders are now discussing 'military measures' to be taken
They will 'show their powerful response through action,' Joint Chiefs of Staff said
North Korea detonated hydrogen bomb sparking powerful 6.3 magnitude quake
Terrifying tremor was detected in northeast near the Punggye-ri test site
Blast directly ordered by Kim Jong-Un and was large enough to destroy a city
South Korea pledges to deploy most powerful US tactical weapons in response

My view, for what its worth, is that we are unlikely to see a war in Korea in our lifetimes. In reality not much has changed strategically in the area. What has happened is that NK appears to be successfully upgrading its deterrent, that has served it well, from a lowish key WMD based on chemical/biological agents to a longer term and more visible nuclear option.

The US plus allies just hasn't, doesn't and never will, have sufficient debilitating force that it can apply before NK can respond with a critical blow on SK. Unless the US is prepared to see very large numbers of its troops and even larger numbers of SK civilians and military die along with seriously upsetting all kinds of supply chains it won't happen. That has been the case for a long time.

Being cynical, one of the long term functions of not agreeing a peace has been to keep the need for a US military presence and expenditure in the area. Looked at from that perspective what has been achieved over the past few months has been stunning. Everyone seems to have forgotten that just 2-3 months ago we saw the appointment of a new President in SK who was promising talks with NK and a possible more peaceful lower defence cost future, investing in peace not weapons.

Instead, just a few months later, no talk of talks with NK just commitments to major increases in defence spending by its allies, not just NK but Japan too, on US defence products. Not cheap items either, these are top end anti-missile (of all sorts) systems, AEGIS Ashore etc. There will of course be commensurate increases in US spending as well plus a ripple effect around the world no doubt. There will be very significant profits earned out of this, to be shared out.

So, is someone going to be allowed to bring down death and destruction or create a flood of money? Expect the theatre to continue for a while to cement the decisions then watch it subside as today's leaders negotiate their rewards in the MIC. Also look out for good things on the other side of the equation. The NK have been playing this game for decades, they know their role. It takes two to tango and this is a prize winning performance.

Implied Violins's picture

Personally, I think the Norks are undercover 'Deep State'. Kim did, after all, attend a high-level western Ivy-League type school in the heart of the economic powerhouse of Switzerland.

If a nuke does go off in America the Norks will get the blame, just like the Saudies got the blame for 9/11...but it will have been the 'Deep State' that arranged for it to happen.

Same playbook. Different actors. Same (((producers))).

"Appeasement Will Not Work"

How many appeasement has this country made in its entire history? Zip,nada. It's funny how righteous they sound talking about human rights, and killing millions of civillians all over the world. Don't they have rights? Talking about appeasement when they know only to blackmail, kill, rape and pillage. I'm so tired of this double talk ,this unbelivable hypocrisy.

More than anything ,this pretending to be the good, moral, honorable, virtuous guys, when in fact, they are the opposite,is ,for me,the most infuriating part of all the lawlesness of this country.

The Don has morphed into an "honorable" neocon. We have a government made of the biggest thives in history, the Goldman Sachs boys, merged with the biggest criminals, the Pentagon boys(you can throw in here the See Eye Ayy). So,what do you expect? great diplomacy? Look at how they are treting the Russians. No respect for the international law, dilpomat immunity,Geneva conventions. Those don't exist when the AAZ Empire is involved.

I'm so disgusted that I honestly want  this freak show to blow up and be  done with .

What did you expect? US is a byproduct of colonialism and fundamentalism in steroids. It’s built in the Americans DNA, not mattering if you are conservative or liberal.

Just look at US history. Give you an example…………..of many:

The Sand Creek massacre (also known as the Chivington massacre, the Battle of Sand Creek or the massacre of Cheyenne Indians) was a massacre in the American Indian Wars that occurred on November 29, 1864, when a 675-man force of Colorado U.S. Volunteer Cavalry attacked and destroyed a village of Cheyenne and Arapaho in southeastern Colorado Territory, killing and mutilating an estimated 70–163 Native Americans, about two-thirds of whom were women and children.

Good thing 'colonialism' never happened in Brasil though.

Your colonization dates back to 1500, and ends with Ryan Lochte coming down to piss on your buildings, or what's left of them

JB Say's picture

Chattel slavery was so brutal in Brazil that they had to keep importing more Africans to replace slaves worked to death. In the USA there was a natural increase in the population reflecting a different set of conditions for the slaves there. So shove your historical moralizing up your Portugeek ass.

Big Creek Rising's picture

Well, not quite. Much of the increase was due to the "breeder plantations" that started after the constitutional end of importation, which was followed by huge drops in productivity due to pests and bad management, so several huge operations switched to producing negros instead of cotton.

RedBaron616's picture

Sorry, I have read extensively on slavery in America and I have yet to read of plantations that produced nothing but slaves. Source, please?

GreatCaesar'sGhost's picture

Well let's not forget the Hungate Massacre, that brought about the retaliatory attack on the Indians. In the lesser know Hungate Massacre children as young as three, unarmed and living peacefully, were murdered by the savage Indians.

The Sand Creek incident, like the My Lai Viet Nam incident are one off’s  where some whacko at a low level had too much power to do bad things,,, kind of like the idiot cops in Salt lake City (Infuriating: Police Arrest on Duty Nurse For Refusing to Break Law )

Go read the book “The Lucifer Effect if you want to understand how that kind of shit happens.

You can likely get the book from your library but..........

UN General Assembly & UN Security Council?

What are these entities and resolutions/mandates/articles that one talks about?

[Was it not] ~ '69' years hence in 1948 the birth of a better/ fairer/ and moar stable world entity...--- but, [was it not] just for the chosen few???

The poor down-trodden non-aligned nations get what they deserve in 'All Africa', the Eastern-Europe[?] via..., 'North-South-East West Asia' as in oriental fucktards!

But the glorious West and Civilized European entities... incl. the Baltic States get the Middle-East colonial non-aligned states, with a laggard South America thrown in as an equlizing vote?!?

But[t], it is Zionist Israel that makes the mockery of a UN Security Council when at birth it was emasculated by America, England, and the French in May/1948 that gave the Zionist Israel via France its Nuclear Arsenal through the 'Greater Zionist Landgrab in Palestine'...--- thusly perpetuated in tymed`intervals perfectly and secretly procuring USSA/ British delivery systems without ever signing a agrreement as an actual signatory to non-proliferation treaty.

IAEA get the fuck out--- so, the IAEA never looked back at Zionist USSA affirmation--- a 'no go space`safe zone'?

and so,... today it is all North Korea's fault for mirroring 'Zionist Israel's actions!

give me a 'fucking break' you hypocritical dumbfucks running Zionist America today!!!

Congress is but all 'Traitors' to wanting World Peace as in our bellicose actions since decades before the dawn of the 20th century!!!

I'm tired of hearing this orange tweeter and complainer in chief bitch all day everyday. Shit or get the hell off the pot.  Light the candle or snuff it out. If you light the candle, its the end of EVERYTHING. And that fat assed, comfortable lifestyle is over.  We exceptionals will get to find out just how exceptional we are, here's a hint: "we aren't".

If we attack the norks, the Chinese will have no choice but to defend them. The Russians will be forced to support the Chinese. So will the Pakastanis. The Indians will support the west.  It will be a nuke missle free-for-all, and it will also be over in about 45 min after the first bomb.  We're almost there.  Instant population control, yippiee!  But orange will save-face in the bunker until supplies run out and they too die with everybody else.

The world is no longer willing to roll, over while we bomb everyone who will not submit to our financial lootery, blatant hypocrisy, and enslavement.  They are as pissed off at our government as we are, refer to congress ratings.  If the west cannot grow the hell up and accept the fact that we are going to have to learn how to share this world, equitably, (oh lord, share=socialism), then it will end. Maybe the next species will do a better job. Got popcorn and beer.  Grow up or die. One way or the other, let's get it started.

The real threat to American citizens and other peaceful people is in Washington, which recently threatened violence against anyone who wants to trade with people who live in North Korea.

It was not DPRK that threatened violence against American citizents -- it was the imperial president in Washington D.C.

US troops are the scum of the earth. Where were they to defend us against ObamaCare? Where are they to defend us against the thieves in Washington D.C.?

They are lauded as heroes, but they will happily take their paychecks stolen from you as they drone you and your family for being "insurgents" who refuse to be robbed.

EI, that is fucking nuts.  Clintoon policy is why this problem is still here.  We should've dealt with it when MacArthur wanted to.  Truman screwed up and every POTUS since has not had the foresight to finish the job.  Twenty years ago would've been easier to deal with than 10 years ago.  Ten years ago would've been easier to deal with than now.  Now will be eaiser to deal with than 10 years from now.   Are any of you intellectual morons able to see a trend here?   Soon NK will be selling/supplying nukes to anyone with cash.  (Iran that the talkin' monkey gave 150 billion to ring any bells?).  Making nice with someone of Kim's mindset will never work and you cannot expect rational westerized responses as proven by the last couple of decades.  POTUS is correct and we should tell China publically or privately to de-nuke NK by EOY or we will--no exceptions.

BTW, we know where every single piece of NK artillery is and can take them out much quicker than the nay-sayers think.  Reminds me of the people that said the Kuwait oil fields would burn for decades if we attacked.  (Example only; Not at all supporting that war.)  But like Iraq, this is just another IC failure.  IC is too busy spying on Americans and trying to generate Russia/Trump evidence to actually do their job.

I've got to go with Steve Bannon's take on this. There is no military solution that won't end up blowing up Soul Korea, a city of almost ten million people. I don't know what the answer is, but blowing up Soul is the wrong answer. Hard to believe that the US can't extract that fat little shit.

Paul Kersey's picture

Trump's Generals, of course, sent Bannon packing. Convenient?
