Pepe Escobar: Why Jihadism Won't Be Allowed To Die

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by Pepe Escobar via SputnikNews.com,

A serious working hypothesis is being discussed for a while now among independent geopolitical analysts. Here it is, in a nutshell.

Daesh may be dying – but the world is still encumbered with its walking corpse.

Plan B of Daesh’s masters may have been to indoctrinate repeated waves of misguided youth across the EU and “seduce” them into D.I. Y. jihadi terror, creating fear and insecurity in Europe. I’ve just been to Barcelona — and that’s not happening. No Fear.

Daesh can also manipulate its brand name to stake a claim into what we may call the New War Belt in Southwest Asia. That’s also not happening, because the “4+1” – Russia, Syria, Iran, Iraq, plus Hezbollah – with the addition of Turkey, and with China in a “leading from behind” role, are all working together.

The unfinished war across “Syraq” coupled with spasms of jihadism in Europe could certainly still metastasize into a massive Eurasian cancer, spreading like a plague from Afghanistan to Germany and vice-versa, and from the South China Sea to Brussels via Pakistan and vice-versa.

What would happen under this cataclysmic scenario is the complete derailment of the Chinese-driven New Silk Roads, a.k.a. Belt and Road Initiative (BRI); its integration with the Russia-driven Eurasia Economic Union (EAEC); and a massive security threat to the domestic stability of the Russia-China strategic partnership, with uncontrollable bellicose scenarios developing very close to their borders.

It’s no secret which elements and institutions would very much cherish internal political chaos in both Russia and China.

Charlie gets stronger

Dr. Zbig “Grand Chessboard” Brzezinski may be dead, but geopolitics is still encumbered with his corpse. Brzezinski’s life obsession is that no peer competitor to the US should be allowed to emerge. Imagine as he lay dying contemplating the ongoing, ultimate nightmare; a Russia-China pan-Eurasian alliance.

The less disastrous scenario in this case would be to seduce either Moscow or Beijing into becoming a US partner, based on which one would pose a lesser “threat” in the future. Brzezinski focused on Russia as the immediate threat and China as the long game threat.

Thus the obsession of the US deep state and the Clinton machine in demonizing all things Russia – like an infantile neo-McCarthyism on steroids. Inevitably, what this geopolitical back hole has precipitated is China’s even more rapid advance on all fronts.

Not to mention that the Russia-China strategic partnership kept getting stronger every day – an eerie echo of Capt. Willard’s line in Coppola’s Apocalypse Now; “Every minute I stay in this room I get weaker, every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets stronger”.

And yet Charlie is not squatting; he’s conquering via trade and investment. And he’s not in the bush; he’s all over the Eurasian plains.

A basket of Hobbesian flare-ups

The other American dalang, Henry Kissinger, is still alive, at 94. Advising President Trump before the January inauguration, and posing as the supreme gray eminence on China matters, he suggested Russia should be courted.

But then came the clincher. Clearly identifying that the Russia-China-Iran alliance holds the key to Eurasia integration, Kissinger revealed his true colors; it’s the weakest link – Iran – that should be neutralized.

Thus his recent proclamation/warning about an “Iranian radical empire” developing/stretching from Tehran to Beirut as the “vacuum” left by Daesh is filled by the Persians.

And here we have Kissinger once again as the unreconstructed Cold Warrior that he is; exit Communism, enter Khomeinism as the supreme “evil.” And may the Lord bask in praise of the Wahhabi matrix of jihadism enablers; the House of Saud.

The Kissingerian recipe sounds like music to the US deep state; Daesh should not be routed, it should be “realigned” as a tool against Iran.

Who cares that the notion of an “Iranian radical empire” per se does not even qualify as a joke? Lebanon is multicultural. Syria will continue to be ruled by the secular Baath Party. Iraq rejects Khomeinism – with tremendously influential Ayatollah Sistani privileging the parliamentary system.

The “4+1” – backed by China — have forged a serious alliance in the fire of the Syrian war. None of this will change by a Kissinger decree. As for “filling the vacuum”, the alternative is Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra, a.k.a. al-Qaeda in Syria. “But wait!” — say the neocons/neoliberalcons of the War Party. “We like that!”]

And that brings us full circle to the initial working hypothesis. Daesh won’t be allowed to die – as much as the geopolitical re-engineering of what Dr. Zbig used to call the “Eurasian Balkans” refuses to die.

ISIS-Khorasan, or ISIS-K – that regroup in Afghanistan – can be so handy to wreak havoc in the intersection of Central Asia and South Asia, so close to key BRI development corridors.

Moscow and Beijing though, know exactly what’s goin’ on. The phony Caliphate was useful in an attempt to break off BRI across “Syraq”, as much as Maidan in Ukraine was useful to break off the EAEU.

Other war fronts will follow – from the Philippines to Venezuela, all bent on disrupting regional integration projects under a Divide and Rule strategy of US satraps manipulated into Hobbesian asymmetrical flare-ups.

Sixteen years after 9/11, the name of the game is not GWOT (Global War on Terror) anymore; is how, under the cover of GWOT, to disturb geostrategic expansion by the people who matter; “peer competitors” Russia and China.

The last thing the MIC wants is victory.

Gotta leave some jihadist roaches alive.

Then the "war on terror" can continue unabated forever.

Jihadism is a very convenient tool for Western governments - to keep the populace on edge in fear for mass control purposes, to justify their wicked foreign policy agendas of imperialism, and to keep Israel safe.

Is it such a surprise that Western governments have abused this tool for this long? Why are we getting drawn into pathetic conflicts in the Middle East even more and more, and why are refugee crises emerging? Blame the CIA empire and all their lackeys for this shit show. They have all the firepower to put out the fire of Jihadism, but they choose not to.

jeff montanye's picture

all people living in the occupied territories in palestine, including gaza, should have israeli citizenship.  this would end the burning center of the conflict.

after that it's mostly u.s. domestic politics: can the voters ever get control of the government and put these heartless soulless evil doers in jail or useful pursuits, like enforcing the littering laws?

Brazen Heist's picture

You can't vote your way out of this.

These people need to be either removed by force, or we let them burn down the house and bring themselves down in the process.

Trump had the chance to start a much needed reform of this broken system from within, but instead he sold out and joined the dark side. I've no hope for this shit anymore. I'm rooting for the Neocon/CIA to be defeated, so we can rebuild a better, fairer and more balanced multipolar world order from its ashes, and bring back an accountable government to the people, not corporate fascists. But corportaocracy is where we're headed unfortunately.

Memedada's picture

Headed? You arrived at that station long ago. USA is owned and has been so since the creation of the FED. The US population is groomed, conditioned and well-indoctrinated by its owners – very apparent on this site – to welcome its total enslavement (a pure de jure thing, since the enslavement is already de facto implemented).

Now the rest of the world only hopes for the US Empire to implode and not explode…

Paul Kersey's picture

And here I thought jihadism was a way for Israel to constantly keep the Middle East destabilized, Sunni against Shia, so that the Arabs would not unite against Israel, and as an excuse for the U.S. corporate war profiteers to extract trillions of taxpayer dollars to keep the owners of the military-surveillance-industrial-complex in multi-generational wealth. Who knew it was about China and Russia?

Except that islamic jihadism was a near constant plague on other civilizations for nearly 1000 years before the current country of Israel even existed.

Sorry history doesn't fit your meme.

You should also google America's first war as a nation.

Hint 1:  "from the hall of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli"

Hint 2:  At the time, America did not even have ONE base or soldier in the middle east.  And had not bombed even one muslim bomb making day care facility.

Kissinger has no allegiance to soviet or any ideology other than that of his unseen power Masters. He is a talented errand boy messenger. He preceded Soros but has the same job - maintain conflict. Ideologies for him are merely various mind control systems thru which to manipulate the masses;

Masses of which he believes there are too many,
And masses who would be mindless without his Masters' mind control systems:
Religion
Political parties
Communism
Hollywood
Drugs, street and prescribed (Prozac nations)

Dr. Zbig “Grand Chessboard” Bullshitty

Brazen Heist's picture

America's good JIhadi / bad Jihadi bullshit blows up yet again.

Funny that TPTB tried spinning democracy, freedom and human rights into the fabric of this game.

Its always been about trying to fool the masses. The ones who know what's really going on are impervious to their propaganda.

I wouldn't be surprised if the US begins supporting ISIS in Afghanistan against the Taliban.

Mementoil's picture

The Jihadi idea is not new. In fact it is very ancient.
Muhammad himself has sent his followers to raid caravans headed towards Mecca and plunder their money.
This has allowed him to gain power and wealth without working, and it has remained the basic tenet of Islam ever since.
The Islamic empires which emerged after his death were strong so long as they could conquer new lands and absorb their resources, but quickly declined once their military advance was brought to a halt. This has happened once in the south of France (battle of Tours 732) and centuries later at the gates of Vienna (1683).
Islamic culture contains no work ethic and has little appreciation to scientific research or economic development. They are obsessed with the idea of acquiring power through military conquest. Due to their technological inferiority they have been miserably unsuccessful at modern warfare, and so they have no alternative but to use guerilla warfare, which has proven much more effective.

Thanks to Jihad warfare, the world is absolutely terrified of Muslims and does its best to appease them at every step. No cartoonist will dare draw a picture of their prophet and no journalist will dare point the obvious connection between Islam and Jihadi terrorism. All world leaders keep repeating the stupid mantra that "Islam is a religion of peace", in spite of all the evidence to the contrary.

And so why is it a surprise that Jihad terorrism grows and metastasizes? It is by far the most successful "product" the Muslim world has to offer, and when something is so successful you always get more of it. Whether it is carried out by ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hammas, Boko Haram, Al Shabab, Hizbullah or any other brand name, the basic idea stems from Islam itself, and so long as Islam is not reformed you will get more of it.

General Titus's picture

Hezbollah is actually a political party and militia that has ben in alliance with the Christians of Lebanon, has kept it secular, and has stopped secular Lebanon from being destroyed like Iraq,& Libya.  The rest of your post is mostly spot on my friend.

"The object of jihad is to bring the whole world under Islamic law."

Bernard Lewis - The Middle East: A Brief History of the Last 2,000 Years (page 234)

People need to take the blinders off concerning mohammedanism...it's not some new thing dreamt up by the MIC or George Soros, even though they may try to manipulate it to their own purposes.

fel.temp.reparatio's picture

thanks for the history lesson, i guess you thought zh needed one... and for your personal insights too, a true smh read. so, let me be blunt...

first, jihadism is a movement of wahabism (ksa, qatar, uae). wahabi is an offshoot of the hanbali school, which split from the sunni branch of islam fairly recently.

second, the company has all the means necessary to put an end to the jihadists in 'syraq' once and for all. but doing so would forfeit control. specifically, locational control.

finally, if you're blatantly going to be a shill for the warmongers mr 39 weeks, i suggest you lift your game (this is fight club!). or, perhaps stay away from the msm - which you distrust when it come to internal politics, but trust when it comes to international politics?

heh ;-)

swmnguy's picture

People who focus on Islam and "jihadism," call it what you will, are just the latest to mistake means for purpose.  As they say, Amateurs talk strategy and tactics, while professionals talk logistics.  And in order to talk logistics, you have to understand the true conditions and objectives.

As usual in all these "Intractable, Inevitable, Inexorable" conflicts, especially those sold to the public as being religious in nature, the true conditions and objectives involve food, water, resources, trade routes, and power.  That's all, as always.  While there are always religious fanatics who will do crazy things because their imaginary friend tells them to, one can always observe that even the fanatics are working toward the same true objectives as always.

The various Byzantine, Ottoman and Persian Empires didn't have much trouble with Jihadis.  When Indonesia has engaged in genocide it wasn't for religious reasons.  It's not about Islam, any more than the brutality of European history has much to do with Christianity, never mind the lip service.

The Irish "Troubles" were said to be unsolvable religious strife, but that's been more or less solved, by focusing on the true objectives and not allowing religious distractions to get in the way.

When somebody tries to tell us a conflict can never be resolved because the other side is "completely unreasonable," rest assured there is a party that is completely unreasonable and is sabotaging resolution.  And it's probably the one talking to you, trying to manipulate your understanding.

StarGate's picture

The Islam of the Ottoman Empire also developed the SLAVERY systems that were later adopted by the Spanish and thru Queen Elizabeth Tudor the British systems.

The Ottomans had several layers of slavery. Women at the bottom as food for passion and domestic work. Men captured were either castrated for domestic work or incorporated as slave soldiers. Male boys served as food for homo passions and were trained as prisoners to become soldiers for future conquering expeditions.

Once conquered and the next layer of slavery system established, Islam could be "peaceful" for the conquered as long as they stayed within their assigned role.

Believe the Battle of Vienna in 1683 actually began on Sept 11 - "911".

because muslim nations and christian nations are opposed to increasing their wealth and standard of living through war, and they believe in merit and competition to dictate which people are the most successful and least. They are so honest, honorable, and filled with integrity that if Jews were better at making money than gentiles, then christians and muslims would accept that peacefully, without censoring there media to conceal the truth from Jews. In God I trust, not lying goys.

That's not as radical a thought as it appears at first sight.

One part of the discreet partnership is the "brains behind the outfit", doing all the planning and scheming and the other part are the "foot soldiers" doing all the dirty work and providing funding.

Thus we had 9/11 where both Israel and Saudi Arabia worked together to pull it off. Now we have Syria where Israel is operating mostly behind the curtain with S/A providing the weapons & funding for outright terrorism to overthrow the government. Reports of injured ISIS terrorists being treated in Israeli hospitals and Israel carrying out its own bombing runs in Syria to fulfill its aim of seizing permanent control of the Golan Heights.

These two nations are more closely in lockstep than many people realise.

Keep in mind, "wahabbism" was created by British "Masonic" Intelligence to break up the Ottoman Empire. Now it is used for a multitude of purposes, all of which are against the wishes of the peoples of the UK, US, & France (but paid for by them but controlled and directed by their masonic intelligence agencies)

Interesting article and "there's a follow-up to it".

Here's a small quote from it;

  • "Since the beginning of 2014, representatives from Israel and Saudi Arabia have had five secret meetings in different countries to discuss their common goals. As a result, they formulated a seven-point plan, which even includes the creation of a new state!"

As I mentioned earlier, there's a lot more going on between these two countries than their religions might suggest.

All true enough but the US petrodollar (and markets backed by) is a ponzi.

(Hey I never said the truth was palatable - the matrix is like that.)
Iran is a great proxy for Rus/China. One happy to push at Western Imperialism (as they see).
Kissinger's behind the curve, Rockerfeller trained, but outdated. His game's too well known.
US will always back the destabilzers abroad. It works til US troops hit the turf.
Then its become a resource and technology drain. China will be quite happy for a US vs DPRK war. If it kicks off, North's first missiles will go to the Asian tech factories. 7 out of 10 mobiles made in China...would soon to be 8, 9 or 10.

The more Pax AMericana stays tied to the ME OIL PATCH as life buoy to its global Petrodollar fed life style of hyperconsumerism destroying the planet and organising perpetual war games to that end, the more the seeds of Wahhabism will stay alive like Promethean fire used to fan the flames of "greed and power--dominus e mercator" mantra of Man's own folly.

Kissinger is the iconic machiavellian inventor of this game of USA uber alles's dictat, concocted-- like the Metternichian model of Congress of Vienna-- to avoid Armageddon head-on, in its nova-Rome vision, vis a vis its Carthagenian rivals in the age of thermonuclear MAD.

We are in a painful paradigm shift of Sophoclean magnitude : Oedipus Rex has to do what he has to do and then get blinded for his hubris and for having acted out to fruition his self fulfilling prophecy : the legacy of his own brilliance; having solved the Sphinx riddle and having considered himself the most exceptional of all men...

The word Jihad has a very positive connotation and evokes positive feelings in most people. I think using words like "mass murder", "homicide" and "war" are more constructive, because the text, as written, is nonsensical.

Debasing the Prophet is 1000 years old and contributes nothing to public discourse. If you were collocated with peaceful people that you were certain would end your life immediately you'd probably keep your comments limited to Global Warming or something like that.

Spain, I don't care; they shouldn't have been sending their terrorist nationals to Southeast Asia to bother me if they are going to complain. https://youtu.be/dy37wGK-6mY

Bush passed the No Fear Act in early 2002, the whole retaliation and anti-discrimination thing. Somehow Obama figured out how to razzle dazzle your healthcare away by mobilizing the antiwar sentiment at the time, who knows what the law is used for now. The oceans stopped rising though, so that's a positive I guess.

I trust the British like I trust the plague.

Flankspeed60's picture

"Jihad' evokes positive feelings among most people? You are completely insane. Nowhere in Western civilization or anywhere outside the ME is this true, any more than hearing 'Aluahu Akbar' as a calming, meditative phrase. Mohammedanism, and Mohammedans - as they were once rightly called, are the only sect of humanity completely incompatible and irreconcilable with the rest of humanity. 95% of the world's conflicts involve Mohammedans engaged in the pursuit of a world-dominating caliphate. As for 'debasing the prophet,' it has become a hate crime to simply repeat verbatim what has been written of him by his contemporaries and lauded by his followers, that he was a pedophile, a rapist, and a highway robber and murderer who pillaged and plundered his way to Islamic 'glory.' Take your bullsh*t somewhere else - it's not likely to find much traction here.

sheketebaka's picture

It is not a hate crime, it is inciting homicide. You remain alive because you are not collocated, and you have contributed nothing to public discourse.

The only thing your civilization has going for it is Christianity, which you can find anywhere. I invite you to take some time away from your societal diseases of pornography and substance abuse to publish your home address.
