"Bannon Declares War On The GOP": Key Highlights From His 60 Minutes Interview

Tyler Durden's picture

Steve Bannon appeared on 60 Minutes Sunday night in his first-ever TV interview. The full interview, which Charlie Rose defined as the one in which "Bannon declared war on the GOP", can be watched, with a full transcript, below (link):

Here is Charlie Rose's introduction:

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, during his brief tenure in the West Wing and his few months as CEO of President Trump's campaign, earned many nicknames among his admirers and his ever-expanding list of enemies. He was the "great manipulator," "Trump's Svengali," "the Grim Reaper," "Propagandist-in-chief."

He describes himself as a "streetfighter." And he proved it in this, his first-ever television interview.  Bannon is back running Breitbart News -- the website where the alt-right and conspiracy theories meet conventional conservatives. The streetfighter, shiv-in-hand came ready to brawl, and not with liberals or Democrats.

... but with the "Republican establishment." For those pressed on time, courtesy of Axios, here are Bannon's most notable quotes, starting with his war with the GOP: "The Republican establishment is trying to nullify the 2016 election. That's a brutal fact we have to face."

  • On 'the establishment': "In the 48 hours after we won, there's a fundamental decision that was made. You might call it the original sin of the administration. We embraced the establishment. I mean, we totally embraced the establishment ... Because ya had to staff a government."
  • On his relationship with the president: "I think I'm a street fighter. And by the way, I think that's why Donald Trump and I get along so well. Donald Trump's a fighter. Great counter puncher. Great counter puncher. He's a fighter. I'm going to be his wing man outside for the entire time, to protect [Trump]" and "to make sure his enemies know that there's no free shot on goal."
  • On Trump's Charlottesville remarks: "I was the only guy that came out and tried to defend him."
  • On the "Swamp": "The Republican establishment is trying to nullify the 2016 election. That's a brutal fact we have to face."
  • On Gary Cohn's critical interview with the Financial Times: "If you don't like what [Trump's] doing and you don't agree with it, you have an obligation to resign."
  • On Republican criticism of Trump's national security strategy: "That's the geniuses of the Bush administration. I hold these people in contempt, total and complete contempt ... They're idiots, and they've gotten us in this situation, and they question a good man like Donald Trump," Bannon said, naming Condoleezza Rice, Brent Scowcroft and Colin Powell.
  • On Economic Nationalism: ""Economic nationalism is what this country was built on. The American system. Right? We go back to that. We look after our own.""
  • On the Russia investigation: "It's a total and complete farce. Russian collusion is a farce."
  • On Trump's tweets: "He knows he's speaking directly to the people who put him in office when he uses Twitter ... [General Kelly's] not going to be able to control it either because it's Donald Trump."
  • On campaign discussions following the Access Hollywood tape's release: "Trump went around the room and asked people the percentages he thought of still winning and what the recommendation. And Reince started off and Reince said, 'You have two choices. You either drop out right now, or you lose by the biggest landslide in American political history.' ... And I told him as he went around, I was the last guy to speak, and I said, 'It's 100%. You have 100% probability of winning.'"
  • On the Catholic Church: "Because unable to really to come to grips with the problems in the church, they need illegal aliens, they need illegal aliens to fill the churches."

Bannon will win. It aint Jeb Bush's globalist party anymore!!

CheapBastard's picture

Anonymous sources tell me "low energy" Jeb is sleeping thru this Hurricane Irma.

Hulk's picture

Yep tb, that's our next move...

I'm OK with Bannon for President!

King of Ruperts Land's picture

I'd go for Stephen Miller for Führer.

CultiVader's picture

Whoa! Saw this dude for the first time on my new 60" LED. Talk about hitting some branches on the way down. Yikes! And that's with makeup. Still down with his ideology.

Put some videos of your old lady on instead.

Was Bannon in favor of the Syria strike?  Did he want US out or in?  That's what I want to know.

And according to what I have read, Bannon opposed the strike and that's good for him.

HRH Feant2's picture

The whole nonsense about Syria has been pointless. It wasn't any of our business. Neither was Ukraine. Neither was Libya.

It would have been nice if the US had done something and stood up to Erdogan. I don't understand why the US still has military bases in Turkey and why Turkey has been kicked out of NATO. Other than lil Kim, Erdogan is a Hitler in the making. The world will not be kind to the US for keeping Turkey as an ally.

grizfish's picture

Erdogan controls the bases where CIA and Mosad drugs and weapons are distributed.

HRH Feant2's picture

That is speculation. What isn't speculative is that Erdogan is building a new caliphate. That he has oppressed people in his own country from professors to journalists to military.

Mark my words, once the western world dealt dealt with lil Kim the next big problem is Erdogan. Not for the US but for Europe and Russia.

Bannon is a phony. If he really was a "streetfighter," he would have stayed in the administration and, you know, fought. That's what the American people need, somebody to actually implement an America-first agenda, not talk big and cuck out like Trump has been doing. But Bannon is just another talker. Now he's back to running Breitbart as if it were his own personal vanity site, and this will accomplish exactly nothing.

Hulk's picture

He may be more valuable on the outside, now that he has seen the inside firsthand...

CheapBastard's picture

That's what I'm thinking. I hope he gets his TV station running soon so there will be Fox and BannonTV.

CNN, MSNBC, etc are so foul.

DeaconPews's picture

FOX is a lost cause. The Murdock boys are flaming liberals.

BarkingCat's picture

Maybe they are just flaming

Drater's picture

....Bannon unchained

Honest Sam's picture

No proof yet.

Wait and see if his walk equals his talk.

az_patriot's picture

That's not true at all.  If Bannon had remained inside the administration, he would have been severely restricted in what he could say and when he could say it.  And many things he couldn't have said at all.  By exiting back into the media, Bannon has complete freedom to speak his mind, tell the establishment to take a hike, and defend the Trump administration publicly.

This rule applies to almost all things "political" in life.  For example, I used to be an officer on our community's HOA board.  While I was on the board I did many things to improve the community and clean up the messes created by previous members, but my hands were tied in other areas -- like speaking my mind to others in the community and shoring up other homeowners to keep after the HOA so things don't run off the rails.  Once I was done with the internal cleanup, I resigned.  Now that I'm "just a homeowner" I have a LOT more power because I can publicly speak freely and keep the HOA from crossing the line into interfering in people's lives.  Bannon is doing the same thing, only at another level in life.

King of Ruperts Land's picture

The country needs guerrilla warriors to implement the dirtier aspects of MAGA.

new game's picture

a strategy of winning. eliminate the enemy, permanently. in the final analysis is will be kill or be killed(or imprisioned). just sayin...

samsara's picture

It would have to be by individuals, more than two people and it will be compromised

blue51's picture

Bannon told the Purple Tie wearing Benedict Rose , that Cohn was spineless and should resign . Loyalty takes balls

jmack's picture

This is like a MDB satire post, right?

Playtime's Over's picture

Fuk u, luv Bannon.  Just what we need.  The Dems can be dealt with if we had an opposition?  I may be dissappointed with some of the moves Trump has done inside but this pales to my hatred of theGOPe and treachery of these slimy unipary swamp creatures.

I was at an upscale local pub, and talking about putin hacking the election for trump...

me:  there is no proof putin hacked election.

him:  oh yes there is, plenty of proof..

(instead of arguing, i just said)

me: ok, putin stole the election for trump right?

him: yes.

me: ok then, who was commander in chief for the last 8 years before putin hacked the election?

him:  obama.

me: who was president before him?

him: Bush for 8 years.

me: so, after 9/11, when they took all our rights away because cavemen took down 3 towers, now, Putin beats the mossad, the mainstream news, CIA, FBI, M16, aclu, slpc, etc and takes over our election system?  Was does that say about obama?  Seems to me, that Putin just kicked the ass of the entire world, while the U.S. was losing all their God given rights to protect us?  What does that say about the obama administration?   Seems all the alphabet agencies cant rig Russia elections, maybe we should move to Russia where we are more safe?  All our rights have been taken away, why does not the DNC blame obama, the commander and chief, for allowing this to happen?

Are you getting this guys?  Putin hacked the greatest country on the planet, Putin decided who our president will be, ALL UNDER THE WATCH OF BUSH AND OBAMA WHO BOTH TOOK OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHTS AWAY TO PROTECT US??????????????????????????????????

Mr.BlingBling's picture

Maybe we had to be there? You know, heard it first hand, seen your body language.

MANvsMACHINE's picture

I can't see your body language but I imagine you crawled up in a ball hiding in your mom's basement. Close?

I have a house in Oregon, almost paid for, 37 acres about 40 miles out of the city all off grid, solar panels, rain catchment etc, a marksman, and etc etc, and a beautiful girlfriend who goes along with me...The guy I talked to, actually said " well you have a point, maybe I should think about what you are saying"...one person at a time is what I do.....You however, bring nothing but ctiticism with no context...you are a troll.  At least HE understood what I was saying and said I made a good point...I will remember you and expose you for the fraud you are.

jmack's picture

Not to mention the secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, had a well publicized "reset" with Russia, when she took the post...so now her very tenure in the post, which was used as justification for voting for her for oval office, was sooo spectacularly unsuccessful that Russia covertly undermined her ascension to the office which was hers by default, per her lapdogs in the media.

   It boggles the mind.

WTFUD's picture

Looking at the faces, lately, of the House Leadership, you'd be surprised to learn that the Repugs hold both Houses. Sum's matters up!

Cautiously Pessimistic's picture

Bannon did not let ol' Charlie Rose get away with much, and you could tell Chuck was trying hard to control every piece of the narrative.  I respect Bannon a lot, but I don't think he, or Trump, stands much of a chance.  Unfortunately, I think the globalists win eventually.  I hope I am dead wrong, but I don't have a good feeling about where this all ends up.

krampus.'s picture

Here's my thing. Ok so Trump has 4 years at least, maybe 8. What can he undo in 8 what has been going on for at least 40? So yes it's a setback of only 8 years. What then happenes in 8 years, you might ask? Well my belief is they will go after us hard as punishment for Trump. I mean 2nd gone. Universal heathcare, selfdriving cars, cashless, gold ban anything that would give us a small amount of freedom. So yes Trump is good for the american person but it's only fleeting. It will get way bad after.

jmack's picture

Trump getting mauled like a rottweiler's chew toy, by the deep state, is doing more to reveal the current state of America to complacent Americans, than anything in 4 decades.   The veil is off, the bright lights are on, and in his failures, he does this country a deep service.  We cannot fix the problem, until we admit we have a problem.

And DC has a very, very, big problem.

HRH Feant2's picture

Fraud? What isn't completely fake and fraudulent in that shithole swamp?

Mordor on the Potomac.

I would jump up and down and scream like I won the lottery if someone did the world a favor and nuked DC during the annual SOTU address.

HisBoyElroy's picture

Say what you will about Trump, he is in a battle and is surrounded by scum, but because of the PERMANENT damage he did to CNN and the rest of the media, I will always be glad I voted for him.

Oldwood's picture

Trump is the great illuminator. Whether he accomplishes much as president is debatable, but the fact that he has shown each and every one of the criminal hacks for what they truly are, is NOT.

What we do with this is wholly up to US. Either we collectively demand accountability or we drive our heads ever deeper in the sand in hopes of not seeing or felling the ass rape headed our way.

Decisions, decisions......

Freddie's picture

Until Trump fires Jared Kushner-Soros and his wife - nothing changes. Trump and voting are kabuki.  We get conned every time.

My guess is Trump was let in because they are going to tank things.  DC and the entire US govt is TOTALLY corrupt.

Bannon is the real deal.

MANvsMACHINE's picture

It won't take more than 8 years to convince the American public that they have no freedoms or rights and that it's in their power to take these things back.

IntTheLight's picture

In 8 years, the new minority majority will rule. And rights will be out the window.

az_patriot's picture

The truth is that most Americans aren't interested in the shit being shoveled by the establishment and the liberal media.  We came out in droves this election cycle to vote for Trump, and we're going to show up in even greater numbers for the mid-terms to throw out as many RINOs and other asswipes as possible.  Trump will certainly be re-elected in 2020.  The establishment is only beginning to feel the wrath of the voters.  There aren't enough crazy leftists to overcome us.

krampus.'s picture

But what happens after Trump leaves office? That's what I'm wolrried about. People will what free shit back by then

King of Ruperts Land's picture

Why would you let the Globalists win? Do you have no children? Do you not still have a heartbeat and draw breath?

Globalists are clearly traitors and need to be killed or captured.
