Trump Trounces "Hypocrite" McCain, Thinks Rand Paul "May Find A Way" To Save Obamacare Repeal Bill

Tyler Durden's picture

In a surprising demonstration of wit, President Donald Trump told a crowd of rowdy Alabamians Friday night that it would be amusingly “ironic” if Kentucky Senator Rand Paul offered to vote for the Republicans’ floundering Graham-Cassidy health-care bill after John McCain blindsided the administration by withdrawing his support On Friday. The two senators, Trump explained, do not get along. And by swooping in to save the Republicans’ Obamacare repeal-and-replace effort at the last second, Paul would be coronated a hero.

After saying earlier this year that he is determined to win Paul’s vote on health-care, the president appears to be making good on his word, launching what appears to be a personal charm offensive to try and win the support of one of the most intransigent Republican senators. That campaign continued Saturday morning, when the president tweeted that he “might have” a way to finally win the Kentucky senator’s vote.

I know Rand Paul and I think he may find a way to get there for the good of the Party!

The tweet was part of a series about the Graham Cassidy bill, which was effectively killed on Friday when McCain withdrew his support. In the series, Trump took shots at McCain, and also Alaska Moderate Lisa Murkowski, who opposes the bill. The third Republican “no” vote belongs to Sen Susan Collins of Maine.

Trump began by bashing McCain for opposing repeal and replace after campaigning on repealing Obamacare during his most recent Senatorial bid. The president also warned that McCain’s decision could elicit substantial political backlash in his state as premiums skyrocket…although, given his recent brush with brain cancer, we doubt McCain is still motivated by these types of political considerations…particularly after opposing a bill sponsored by his close friend, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham.

In a plug for Graham Cassidy, Trump said adopting a system of large block grants to states would be “a good thing to do.”

In a shot at Murkowski, Trump tweeted that Alaskans would be angry after their premiums skyrocket 200%, implying that they would express that anger by voting against their senator. But “Lisa M” still has a chance to be a hero by changing her mind and voting for the bill.

So, has Trump found a way to save the repeal and replace effort by turning Paul? Maybe, maybe not. As the public is well aware, Trump is fond of bluffing.

Of course, the math is simple: Republicans have 52 seats and need 50 senators to support the bill, which would require Vice President Pence to break a tie, under the special budget rules being used to avoid a Democratic filibuster. The clock on those rules runs out at the end of the month, effectively closing the Republicans’ window to pass a repeal and replace bill – for now, at least.

Of course, on Friday, Paul reaffirmed his opposition to the bill in a series of tweets on Friday, saying he "wouldn't be bullied" into supporting it after Trump had admonished him via twitter earlier in the week.

That sounds like a "hard pass" to us.

You just know that any Bill written by Sen. Graham has to be a back door screw job for the American People.

My impression is LG intentially sabotaged the Trump presidency once again by proposing a bill that even he wouldn't accept knwoing his good buddies would vote against it.

both of you may well be correct; but if the bill actually eliminates the individual mandate, i say pass it, natural process will kill the residue

There is a certain satisfaction to hacking of that nasty limb and watching the rest bleed to death. Painfully so, so generations might look back and say, ,"Remember that awful corrupt failue of socialized health care? Let's make sure we never do that again.

I think Trump's plan is to create turmoil in the GOP since nothing is getting done (because the RINOs want the status quo and Obamacare government control of healh insurance and health care) to place the blame on them so he can get re-elected.  At least he can deregulate some via executive order.  And the government keeps spending and growing.

It's going to be ugly but interesting.  And note that Trump attacked Paul first, because I think he realized Paul was his biggest competition for president.

I voted for Trump thinking how fun it would be to watch 4 years of retards like you, melting down. Never could I have imagined how much better it actually would be. Screw 4 years. When he gets reelected the spontaneous combustion will be a sight to see. Can't wait. Ain't life grand?

I voted for him also and I also enjoy snowflake tears, but leading the US requires more than the ability to piss alot of people off. That the Donald indeed does real well. Leading the US, well as he said at the UN, stawk market is at record highs and the lowest unemployment in 16 years. He said that and a whole lot more. I dont think you understand that the US IS melting down.

>>Rand Paul is the only REAL Republican left.... and Trump who the elite hate..<<

Don't be so easily swayed by the propaganda.

The Evidence (not lies) shows the dElites LOVE Trump!

1. Gave Trump $2 billion in free advertising. Would you give your enemy $2 billion in free advertising?

2. Pulled an October Surprise based on an alleged criminal investigation that had already been determined to not lead to criminal penalties. What a coup for Trump... the establishment telling the world his opponent should be locked up while in office. Comey decide mid-2016 NOT to prosecute Hillary, then the Banksters told him to announce a phony investigation under the false pretext of criminal penalties... because they hate Trump right?

Watch the magicians hands, NOT HIS LIPS!

3. Trump explained how he loves the Banskters in his first debate with Hellary.

4. Goldman Sachs runs the Treasury... and a Skull and Bones Goldman Sach operative as well.

5. Another Sachser is running the economy.

6. Trump followed the Bankster agenda to attack Syria twice to gauge the public reaction... just like you'd expect from a Bankster handmaiden.

7. Trump mocks the idiots who think he will prosecute Hillary for her public crimes... after LYING and saying he'd prosecute her. THE BANKSTERS OVERLORDS WON'T LET HIM, and that's even if he wanted to do so.

8. Trump lies about making America Great again when it is IMPOSSIBLE for a nation under Debt-Based Money Tyranny to become great when they are on the verge of a debt-money bubble collapse.

9. Trump never touches the INHERENT FRAUD THAT IS THE DEBT-MONEY SYSTEM (see below for absolute, empirical proof of fraud).

10. Trump is playing the role of divider so that when the Banksters "pull" the economy and implode by slowing debt growth and even calling in loans, PEOPLE WILL BLAME TRUMP AS A FALSE SCAPEGOAT SO THE BANKSTERS CAN CONTINUE ON WITH THEIR DEBT-MONEY SCAM.

Trumpbots play the fool every bit as effectively as Obamabots, but both class of Galactic Chumps can't see their own reflection in the mirror of the other.

I don't disagree with Rand Paul on principle, but he's being a bit of an ass over this, and is terribly mistaken if he thinks that holding out will bring a perfect solution.  It won't.  If Obamacare is allowed to crash, we will all become subject to single payer, which will be a national disaster the likes of which most Americans can't even imagine.  Rand should vote YES and push for further reform measures down the road.

MrPalladium's picture

You are absolutely right. He is voting ideology and not for practical outcomes that can contain medical costs.

ogretown's picture

I agree. I tend to like the little guy.  He has principles, albeit outdated principles for this phase of the Empire, but nonetheless he deserves a degree of admiration.  But as Roger Denmather once said, 'if you cannot change the game, change games'.  The little guy is a politician and in so being has to play the political game. He is not playing the political game. Instead he stands there like a little stiff prick - reminding one of his ineffectual father, wrapping himself up in a 1950's morality that was a myth even back then.  It is probably high time the folks of his state sat him down and told him...'look, little guy bring some goodies to our state'.  But I do get a chuckle out of guys like Rand Paul and the Canadian guy masquerading as a Texas senator.  Sit down, read and be able to recite the Constitution, wrap yourself up in the flag and go forth and pontificate.  As to the cancerous war-hawk from Arizona, NO ONE expects he will ever lift a finger to do what is good for the country.  So in the end, it is still up to the little guy to do the right and get this onerous, but better than nothing, bill passed. C'mon shorty pants...do the right thing!

GrumpyGrump's picture

"Little guy"? Talking about your dick, or your IQ?

ogretown's picture

Actually, talking about the wee Mister Paul.  Unless you consider 5 foot 6 inches a tall man. But according the data, 5 foot 10 inches is the average height for American white males. The size of my penis or my IQ is of zero importance to the discussion at hand. That being said, very telling that is the first place you would focus - the size of ones schmeckle.

Hikikomori's picture

Hillary and her Resistance couldn't screw up the G.O.P. better than the G.O.P. is screwing up itself.

swmnguy's picture

Yes, indeed.  Passing this platter of shit just to spite Obama and pander to people who don't understand how much they've been paying for healthcare finance for decades is just what the GOP deserves.

Everyone who considers ObamaCare to be a disaster (including myself) should get a load of this horseshite bill.  This thing addresses the problem of cost, which is pretty much the entire problem, by allowing insurance companies to sell policies that don't cover anything that needs to be covered.  In no other nation on Earth is medical care for people who have insurance the #1 cause of consumer bankruptcy.

The cost of healthcare in the US isn't a new problem, either.  It was a problem prior to 1973, when the Nixon Administration introduced HMO plans to address the issue.  Every attempt to fix this since has failed.  It's becoming inescapable to conclude that the problem is the system itself.  Putting private insurance at the center of a system of corporate-owned clinics, hospitals, pharma and device companies produces a cost spiral that has priced health insurance out of the reach of many Americans and their employers.

So the GOP now proposes to take coverage away from 25,000,000 or more people, and allow countless millions others to buy policies that don't cover the kinds of costs they'd need coverage from.  Simply brilliant.  And people say single-payer would bankrupt the country.  Utterly hilarious.  As if America didn't already spend twice as much as people in any other country on Earth, for a financial arrangement that doesn't fucking work.  Americans don't even understand how much the stuff costs; they have no idea their employer is usually paying far more than they are.  Most Americans don't even understand that they only pay half the payroll tax; their employer pays the other half.  So to hear them say they can't afford "ObamaCare" is a hoot and a half.  Hell, many Americans don't even know there is no such health insurance plan as "ObamaCare;" it's all private insurance.

People that stupid deserve what they're going to get, and good and hard.

All Risk No Reward's picture

The problem with Rockefeller Sick-Management (it isn't healthcare by any stretch of a non-calcified imagination) is that it doesn't generate enough societal debt and Bankster corporate-front profits.

BanskterCare (Obama didn't do jack but sell it to suckers) went a long way towards resolving those Banskter problems.

What's not to like?**
