Another Collusion Narrative Dies: New Emails Support Trump Jr.'s Account Of Infamous "Russia Meeting"

Tyler Durden's picture

Another Trump-Russia collusion narrative has bitten the dust.

In a stunning revelation that goes a long way toward alleviating the cloud of suspicion that has hovered over Donald Trump Jr. since details about a meeting organized by Trump Jr. involving Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort along with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and her entourage were first publicized in July, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that newly disclosed emails between Veselnitskaya and Azerbaijani-Russian billionaire Aras Agalarov largely support Veselnitskaya’s account that the meeting focused on her yearslong lobbying effort to kill the Magnitsky Act.

The emails, which were provided to WSJ by Scott Balber, a lawyer for Agalarov, cover a period of time leading up to the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower. They begin in October 2015, when Veselnitskaya first shared information about her anti-Magnitsky efforts with Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika.

Veselnitskaya also shared allegations about a US investment firm called Ziff Brothers possibly dodging taxes in Russia. The firm later donated to Democrats.

In October 2015, Ms. Veselnitskaya shared information about her anti-Magnitsky campaign with Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika, a top official appointed by the Kremlin, Mr. Balber said. In May 2016, less than two weeks before the June 9 Trump Tower meeting, Ms. Veselnitskaya also provided Mr. Agalarov with a five-page set of talking points that included the same information she had given Mr. Chaika, Mr. Balber said.

Included in the information she shared with the men, Mr. Balber said Monday, was a single reference to Mrs. Clinton. Ms. Veselnitskaya alleged that a U.S. firm, Ziff Brothers Investments, had dodged taxes in Russia and later donated to Democrats, including possibly Mrs. Clinton.

Mr. Chaika’s office released a statement in spring 2016 alleging Ziff Brothers Investments of evading taxes in Russia. The company hasn’t been charged and has previously declined to comment on the allegations.

The emails largely support Trump Jr.’s and Veselnitskaya’s version of events. Trump said the meeting proved disappointing. In July of this year, after reports of the meeting first emerged, Trump said that Ms. Veselnitskaya “stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Clinton,” but “it quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information.” Trump said he cut the meeting short after Veselnitskaya started talking about the Magnitsky Act.

The meeting is now being probed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating whether associates of Mr. Trump colluded with Moscow as part of his probe into Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 U.S. election, according to people familiar with the matter.

The emails represent a blow to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who’s been aggressively investigating the meeting between Trump Jr. and Veselnitskaya. While Trump Jr. is still exposed for his infamous “if it’s what you say it is then I love it” comment made in response to publicist Ronald Goldstone’s claim that Veselnitskaya had damaging information about Clinton – the pretext for setting the meeting – all of the leaks have so far supported Trump Jr.’s version of events: Namely, that Veselnitskaya did not provide Trump Jr. with the “opposition research” he had been seeking.

We suspect this new information will not be the lead story on MSNBC, CNN, or at The Washington Post.

Do these jackasses never tire of this shit?

On the rare occasion that I scan cnn or msnbc etc.

That is the ONLY fucking thing that they ever talk about.

For months and months and months on end.

I really cannot understand how even their syncophants can bear it.

The theater goes on...What part of 'ALL' emails and their content are known to the NSA/FBI/CIA

I wonder what Mueller and his cohorts charge per hour for this type of "investigation?"

On the other hand, that variably photogenic Veselnitskaya is a real fox in the green bathrobe pic... but it only goes to the waist - anyone found a shot of down below?

We suspect this new information will not be the lead story on MSNBC, CNN, or at The Washington Post.

They've been scooped by NewsFront anyway.

Hey, that's another good shot ...she looks a little like Valerie Bertonelli in that one.

She's a lot better lookin than Mueller! (probably a better attorney too)

Maybe we can get them to cover Hilary's emails??

Sorry, hell is not in ice form yet...

The Ministry of Propaganda will not support this kind of heresay. The Russians must have influenced the evidence.

Catch up.

And as long as Assange and Rohrabacher are ignored by everyone in DC they're ALL a bunch of depraved frauds that should NOT be taken seriously.

Seems a more likely story, is that Putin did get Hillary's emails and used them to blackmail Obama (who sent her emails suspiciously using an alias, and then later lied about learning of her server in news reports) into their actual appeasement of Putin.  And then Putin and Democrats arranged a meeting between these shady Russian operatives and Trump's team, so they'd have a reason to claim collusion, and to spy on Trump's team during the election as well, plus the fake dossier (the more "evidence" making people wonder about Trump the better).   Remember the 1/20/17 NYT headline of "Wiretaped Data Used In Inquiry of Trump Aids" where after it came out letting us know Obama wiretapped a political opponent during an election, they walked it back quickly and claimed it was inadvertent and the wiretapping was of Russians.

Seems like many in the country are still suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome - that's why the "syncophants can bear it" because if it isn't true, then they have to admit they are idiots.  Better to bear the fake news coming out of CNN and the rest of them.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've stopped caring about the "Russian interference" made-for-TV stories months ago.

Peeps should just stop watching this or clicking on it.

Can we get to real issues, that matter to Main St?

Is Mueller so incompetent he can't even properly falsify the needed evidence?

The short answer is...yes.

Currently he's looking into how much Melania spends on shoes.

Yeah, I saw something about that.

The burning question I have is, will the NYT's burrow into her tax returns to try and get something on The Don too? ;-)

they tried with the servers in Trump tower. Obviously it was a way to make Trump look suspicious. They even put russian language on the software to make it look russian. What a frame job.

What is this Meuller escapade costing?  Is this his last grab at the golden cash bucket?  It must be getting awful embarrasing for him to keep up this charade! There is that saying about "Knowing when to fold them".!

The man is waaay beyond embarrassing himself, one look at how his "anthrax investigation" went should convince even his most vocal supporters of that.

Any normal person would have crawled under a rock but no...he is not "normal" and the American public was treated to a 24/7 Alinsky Fake Nuuuz cycle of what a brilliant and unimpeachable investigative mind he is.

Fucking ridiculous, he's a statist hack just like Comey without the least bit of interest in the truth, only what The Machine wants and Trump is a threat to The Machine.

Most corrupt country in history

Automatic Choke's picture

actually, i don't think so.   seems to me (reading history with generous reading between lines) that corruption has always been pretty strong among all the power grabbers from the getgo - not just here in USA, but pretty much anywhere.   i think it is a human trait - those who want to rule over others are simply not to be trusted.

what makes me optimistic (??!!? get that, optimistic??) is that more of it is exposed these days than in the past.  for this, i think we can thank nearly frictionless communication, i.e. internet.  the big bad folks at the top really can't control the information flow like they used to, so it appears as if all hell is breaking loose.    i look at it as a good sign - sort of like purging your lower gut after a years-long run of food poisoning.....

Stan522's picture

So then why is Mueller still searching for a crime.....?

Apeon's picture

Because he CAN'T find one----stooped

Vilfredo Pareto's picture

Yeah.  If they actually had trump on anything they wouldn't be leaning on manafort.

There is no telling what trump has said thru the years that have been picked up on incidental communications, but surveillance was badly burned on incidental communications before.  They may have the smoking gun but even if they did they wouldn't dare reveal it unless they can parallel construct.

But a good attorney will get parallel construction out in the open right away and hope he can catch a few LE investigators in lies.
