Matt Damon And Russell Crowe Fingered For Pressuring Journalist To Kill Weinstein Sex Story

Actor Matt Damon took heat over Twitter Monday evening following viral claims that he and Russell Crowe pressured a New York Times journalist into dropping a negative story on Harvey Weinstein in 2004.

On Sunday, journalist and founder of The Wrap, Sharon Waxman, penned an op-ed detailing how Damon and Crowe called her “directly” to pressure her into dropping a story about Miramax Italy’s head Fabrizio Lombardo handling “Weinstein’s women needs” during European film festivals and other events. Waxman had located a young woman in London who Weinstein paid off after an "unwanted sexual encounter." While the woman would not violate her non-disclosure agreement, Waxman had proof of the payoff.

On Monday, actress Rose McGowan – who was featured in a bombshell NYT Exposé detailing Harvey Weinstein’s sexual abuse of young actresses, retweeted the story after it was picked up by – asking “Do u realise [sic] how deep the cover ups go?” reports:

Sharon Waxman, founder of the Wrap, writes that her own investigate reporting, which took her on an international trip to uncover rumors of Weinstein’s sexual misconduct, was cut from the Times in 2004 under pressure from several Hollywood elites. Waxman alleges in the Wrap that Matt Damon and Russell Crowe called her “directly” to dispel the reports she was following about Miramax’s Italian head Fabrizio Lombardo, who was allegedly hired “to take care of Weinstein’s women needs.”

In response to Waxman’s op-ed, the New York Times claims her story “did not have anything near what was revealed in our story,” adding “Mainly, she had an off-the-record account from one woman.”

McGowan then tweeted “Hey @mattdamon what’s it like to be a spineless profiteer who stays silent?”

UPDATE: Matt Damon responds (via Fox News)

Speaking to Deadline, Damon has a much different recollection of the events in question.

“My recollection was that it was about a one minute phone call. Harvey had called me and said, they’re writing a story about Fabrizio, who I knew from ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley.’ He has organized our premiere in Italy and so I knew him in a professional capacity and I’d had dinner at his house,” Damon explained. “Harvey said, Sharon Waxman is writing a story about Fabrizio and it’s really negative. Can you just call and tell her what your experience with Fabrizio was. So I did, and that’s what I said to her. It didn’t even make the piece that she wrote.”

Damon goes on to explain that he was never aware that the story he was commenting on had anything to do with sexual misconduct at the time, and he says that he was not among the numerous celebrities now claiming that they knew something about Weinstein’s actions prior to the recent exposé by the Times.

And now, Angelina Jolie and Gwenyth Paltrow have come forward with allegations against Weinstein

People reports:

Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie are the latest stars to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment, adding their accounts to the dozens of women who have described their alleged experiences with the movie mogul.

In a new New York Times report, Paltrow says Weinstein sexually harassed her in a hotel room after the movie mogul hired her for the lead role in Emma when she was 22. The encounter allegedly ended with Weinstein placing his hands on her and suggesting a massage.

Angelina Jolie said she also had a “bad experience” with Weinstein in a hotel room during the release of Playing by Heart in the late ’90s. The Oscar winner claimed Weinstein made unwanted advances to the NYT.

“I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did,” Jolie said in an email to the NYT. “This behavior towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable.”

Harvey’s Swan Song

As a result of the NYT piece last week, Weinstein was fired from his company – but not before he would send an embarrassing email to fellow hollywood bigwigs asking for their immediate support. Weinstein writes:

My board is thinking of firing me. All I’m asking, is let me take a leave of absence and get into heavy therapy and counseling. Whether it be in a facility or somewhere else, allow me to resurrect myself with a second chance. A lot of the allegations are false as you know but given therapy and counseling as other people have done, I think I’d be able to get there.

I could really use your support or just your honesty if you can’t support me.

But if you can, I need you to send a letter to my private gmail address. The letter would only go to the board and no one else. We believe what the board is trying to do is not only wrong but might be illegal and would destroy the company. If you could write this letter backing me, getting me the help and time away I need, and also stating your opposition to the board firing me, it would help me a lot. I am desperate for your help. Just give me the time to have therapy. Do not let me be fired. If the industry supports me, that is all I need.

With all due respect, I need the letter today.

One wonders who wrote letters for Harvey?

The mogul does have his defenders, after all. Fashion Designer Donna Karen, who loves the pizza in Haiti – which is not known for its pizza, suggested to the Daily Mail that Weinstein’s alleged victims may have been ‘asking for it’ in a rambling interview.

Director Kevin Smith, on the other hand, is ashamed to have made money with Weinstein:

A 4chan post from 10 months ago suggests “The Fappening” leak of celebrity nudes all came from Weinstein’s iPhone:

How many Hollywood celebrities and executives – particularly those who feigned outrage at Donald Trump’s ‘pussy grabbing’ comment, have remained silent as countless humans beings were trafficked into Harvey Weinstein’s lair to satisfy his urges?

Looks like the only thing needed for evil to prevail is virtue-signaling Hollywood actors to do nothing about one of their own.

I'd like to extend a big hearty, "Right @#$%ing ON!" to Brad Pitt for what he did all those years ago, when this pig tried accosting his then girlfriend, Paltrow.

The problem is, is that there are dozens, hundreds? of men, with mothers, sisters, girlfriends, wives, friends, who looked the other way, when only one guy had the nads to do something about it, even on the level that he did, which apparently, nobody else had or has since.

Always liked Pitt. His movies were always watchable. Hated his guts 'cause he was such good looking SOB!

Way to go, Mr. Pitt! More men need to stand up to these little sacks of crap, and actually beat the living hell out of them.

I believe weinstein is the child molester that Corey Feldman talked about, once the charges start to pile up on the pervert, Feldman and other actors who were molested by this sick joo are going to admit it was him who molested them.

weinstein loved to eat menstruating young girls, what a disgusting man.

The worst part is that this ONE alpha male fucker is going to bring out droves of female chauvinists who conclude once again that ALL males must be privileged, overpaid, women-abusing predators!

The hypocrisy of all these women who knew about these predators but didn't warn any other women, or guardians of child actors, or children, is just as sick as racist NFL multimillionaire jocks campaigning for criminal racism by advertising their totally selective, failed knowledge of history.

Everywhere you look, Weinstein was protected.  From Joo media who killed the stories to the Joo prosecutor.  Not to mention Joos in Hollywood. Hopefully Weinstein will speed the sinking of the ships of his production company, his old firm and Disney who are all run by Joos.  Not only those people but the sycophantic hollywood types who just bandwagon opinions and repeat what they are told to say.  Boycott now.  Boycott until these people are out of the picture.

slobbermut's picture

You really need to stop timidly pussyfooting around and tell us how you really feel about all 'joos' in general! LOL

*Honestly, find the seeming indemic 'Joo' hatred on ZH one of the most bizarre things I have encountered here; and in no way is that to be construed as defending/excusing that disgusting H. Weinstein....with a lot of luck he goes to jail.

LightBeamCowboy's picture

At what point does it become obvious that Weinstein and his ilk aren't in the film business to make movies as much as making movies gives them access to beautiful young women and children who are beholden to them and upon whom they can carry out their sexual perversions?

It is with shock and sadness that Michelle and I learned of these terrible acts committed by our dear friend and campaign contributor Harvey Weinstein. We express our sincere condolances to the many victims, and find consolation in the many inspiring films that these stars made, after Harvey made the stars.  For those making wild unfounded speculation, Malia assures me that Harvey has an upstanding member among the film community.

Michelle and I will remember Harvey in our prayers and ask all Americans to do likewise.  Sex addiction is serious ailment, which our media have not devouted enough attention to, and we wish him a speedy recovery.  No, we won't be giving any money back.

Matt Damon And Russell Crowe Fingered

The writer is busting a gut...

toocrazy2yoo's picture

Damon and Crowe were just coverin' for a bro. There's so much Social Justice in this whole deal, in spite of the depravity of this Madcap Jew, I'm gradually coming over to Harvey's side, like I did with Cosby and others. When the broads are jumping up and down yelling, "Me too!" and coming out of the woodwork for a check by the dozens the instant the news breaks, I have to consider that Harvey did bad with the broads he paid good money to. The rest of these broads can go screw.

As to who "knew"? Everyone knew. The Clintons, Obama, the entire Hollywood cadre' that raised Hell because Trump said he grabbed pussies. Bet Trump knew, because HE'S been up to his balls in Hollywood and has wallowed in and consorted with the depravity of Democrats for decades, too. Fact is, Trump, out of Bro-courtesy, likely didn't finger WeinStein's depravity when he could have, by mentioning that Harvey (a cash cow to Hillary) was clearly more deprved than Trump. Now, we're to hassle Hillary and Obama and Hollywood for keeping quiet about a rapist? What's different? THAT is what Democrat Depravity DOES.

And so? Take all this and do what with it? The game goes on, ladies, the game goes on. Hollywood's got what you want, how much of your body and soul do you wish to surrender? We know what they are, we're really just arguing price.

I found the Bourne Ultimatum and it's sequels, totally fucking boring.  Here is the script:  Matt Damon shoots a gun, runs, fights, shoots, runs, fights, shoots, car chase, fights, shoots, jumps, shoots, shoots and blah-blah-blah.  What was the story about?

Harvey Weinstein has become a "Sacrificial Lamb" for the BIGGER EASTCOAST/WESTCOAST and WASHINGHTON DC Pedophine rings and /Prostitution ring, this will go all the way to the TOP. Go back to old stories and you will find who has the "PHONE BOOK OF ALL THE CALL GIRLS" .

First I wonder why ibankcoin gives a flying fuck about this.

Second I wonder why people are taking sides with the trashy sluts who served the ugly fat bastard instead of just condemning the whole lot of them, "victims" who got rich thanks to the fat bastard and the bastard himself.

This is incontrovertible evidence of Hollywood group think at its worst.  The first reaction was to defend Weinstein.  Then the political winds shifted and they turned on him.  Paltrow and Jolie could have "come out" right away, but held back until getting a green light from some powers that be, so far unknown to us.

Reminds me of the NFL which was for taking a knee before it suddenly started supporting standing for the anthem.  Fucking left wing loser shitheads can't think for themselves.

Actually, it might have been hard for a young 20-something actress to go up against a rich, powerful Hollywood mogul.

Nobody would have taken her side. See?

That's why he says in his email that he isn't guilty, but if he went to therapy, maybe he could stop!

lew1024's picture

Yes 'Hollywood group think'.

But Hollywood is many people and many interests. Weinstein was a powerful man. Same as Clinton, and people were punished for discussing Clinton's crimes.

People with careers have to be political, so I can't fault the actresses, any more than I can fault the many people in the many agencies who know things are going wrong, but being a whistleblower is career limiting at best, maybe life limiting.

All the victims didn't give in, why include them? All they did was what everybody does when the have a bad manager, they gossiped among themselves to allow everybody to avoid problems when they could, and otherwise kept their head down.'s picture

The best method of striking back at this nest of vipers/scum is to pick up a good book and read it, refraining from paying for the garbage that comes from Hollywood these days (and for a long time past).
