Air Force To Recall Up To 1,000 Retired Military Pilots After Trump Unexpectedly Revises Sept 11 Executive Order

Tyler Durden's picture

In an unexpected development, President Donald Trump has signed an executive order allowing the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots to address what the Pentagon has decribed as "an acute shortage of pilots," Fox News reported.

The order, which Trump signed Friday, amends an emergency declaration signed by George W. Bush in the days after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. The Air Force is only allowed to recall up to 25 pilots under current law. The order signed by Trump temporarily removes that cap for all branches of the military.

A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Cmdr. Gary Ross, said in a statement that the Air Force is currently "short approximately 1,500 pilots of its requirements." That number includes approximately 1,200 fighter pilots.

"We anticipate that the Secretary of Defense will delegate the authority to the Secretary of the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots for up to 3 years," Ross said.

"The pilot supply shortage is a national level challenge that could have adverse effects on all aspects of both the government and commercial aviation sectors for years to come."

Currently, the Air Force has no plans to take advantage of the recall.

“The Air Force does not currently intend to recall retired pilots to address the pilot shortage. We appreciate the authorities and flexibility delegated to us,” Ann Stefanek, an Air Force spokeswoman, told Fox News.

Now, the question is, will the order inspire some retired pilots to come out of retirement voluntarily, like this guy.

Read the full text of the order below:

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.), and in furtherance of the objectives of Proclamation 7463 of September 14, 2001 (Declaration of National Emergency by Reason of Certain Terrorist Attacks), which declared a national emergency by reason of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in New York and Pennsylvania and against the Pentagon, and the continuing and immediate threat of further attacks on the United States, and in order to provide the Secretary of Defense additional authority to manage personnel requirements in a manner consistent with the authorization provided in Executive Order 13223 of September 14, 2001 (Ordering the Ready Reserve of the Armed Forces to Active Duty and Delegating Certain Authorities to the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Transportation), it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. Amendment to Executive Order 13223. Section 1 of Executive Order 13223 is amended by adding at the end: "The authorities available for use during a national emergency under sections 688 and 690 of title 10, United States Code, are also invoked and made available, according to their terms, to the Secretary concerned, subject in the case of the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, to the direction of the Secretary of Defense."

Sec. 2. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

And bring home and shrink the overstretched, overreaching military (as promised)...Stop doing the opposite of what you campaigned on.

So people don't want to kill and die for the zio-banksters?!  Strange.

This is why killing the myth of 9/11-Anthrax is important.

A State of Emergency was declared and is anually renewed since 9/11.

What a fucking crock.  Even if one accepts the official narrative -- I don't -- the idea that 19 guys with box cutters can alter the course of a nation is completely fucking ludicrous.

We've become a nation of retards.

Normalcy Bias's picture

The 9/11 Commission didn't even believe the official narrative for fucksakes.

This is the result of decades of equal-opportunity diversity recruiting into the air force. Black and brown people make shitty pilots, and white women simply don't care about being pilots. Intelligent and educated white men--i.e. exactly the kind of people who become skilled pilots-- are disgusted by what the armed forces have become and are simply leaving the air force to become civilian pilots.

@ Buck,

By the end of 2019 you'll have 18-year-olds fighting in this war who weren't even born when it began.

The greatest military the world has ever known can't defeat a bunch of men that wear dresses, climb mountains in sandals and fuck goats.

Name me one "war" that USA USA has ever won?  And that is a dumb question as nobody ever wins.  But tell me you idiotic warmongers which conflict was ever won?

Destruction of life and nature yeah.  Everything USA warmongers have done has resulted in loss of life/loss of habitat/loss of dignity.

Propaganda machines have pumped out crap for 100 years or more.  USA USA has not done much more that kill their own sons on the altars of profit.  AND then lied about it.

And now?  War will hide corruption.  Kill more innocents.  And the power brokers and money men will laugh once more.  I say to all do not honour any recall that will make you a tool of propaganda and send you to your death.

Refuse to serve.

TBT or not TBT's picture

Buck, it’s also the JAG officer corps going after pilots for calls they have made, bombing or strafing a position in support of ground troops when doing close air support missions. Every strike practically gets a pre court martial right after landing. Hugely stressful on pilots and weapons officers.

What?! My Gender Studies degree does not qualify me to be a Top Gun fighter pilot?

serotonindumptruck's picture

The war propaganda worked perfectly.

The orchestrators of 9/11 were counting on a "nation of retards" to not comprehend what was happening to them.

It was the only way that could work if they had any hope of pulling off such a massive crime.

You're right, of course.

They did pull it off, and we are a nation of retards (who deserve everything that's coming).

Hans-Zandvliet's picture

The U.S. has not become a nation of retards; they've always been that way.

Only, in the past it didn't show as much as today because your retardedness was still compensated by an overwhelming military overkill.

Now that this gap is closing, the U.S. starts to feel the pinch of being a retarded nation all along.

(Thanks in advance for all the down-votes ;-)

Normalcy Bias's picture

Too many people are figuring out that War is a Racket.

They'll probably have to bring back the draft before long.

11b40's picture

That would be the quickest, surest way to end these military adventures. Bring back the draft, and make everyone put some skin in the game, then watch the ant-war protest mushroom.

Normalcy Bias's picture

Yep. Just as during the Vietnam 'Conflict,' not much of a stink was made until Middle and Upper Class kids were subject to the draft.

swmnguy's picture

That's why Nixon ended the draft. Vietnam was already a lost cause, but it took the middle class out of the antiwar movement, leaving the MIC with free hands to this day.

11b40's picture

That is exactly right.  Vietnam taught TPTB a big lesson.  If you want to have endless hot wars, you gotta go with a mercenary force.  So far, the strategy has worked out very well for them, and now, the very mention of a draft sends all the little snowflakes into a tizzy.  I mean, we all have a right to shirk our duty & send someone else, don't we?

Not Too Important's picture

Are you speaking of a mercenary force like Al Quaeda and ISIS? Or the Private Military Contractors that train them for the NWO?

Not Too Important's picture

Here's a thought for our European bros. I heard the Germans are asking the EU to be able to draft from all EU countries to staff the German military. OK, so the Germans take the most fit men and women - thank you, wearable fitness trackers - and send them to war, either massed at the Russian border or off the continent to a foreign country. They're not going to take the Muslims, they sure as hell aren't going to be assimilated into the German army, so while EU's fittest is out fighting God knows who, the Muslims are left to do whatever the hell they want to do, with only a small police force to stop them.

Raping and murdering Europeans while the fittest are off fighting NWO wars, and probably dying en masse.

Would that be the plan? And would that be the plan in the US if millions of angry murdering and raping Muslims are allowed in?

Just asking...

'Wrecking the planes is one way to fight the pilot-shortage.  ;-)

The USAF doesn't have the manpower to maintain the planes another 1,000 pilots would be flying. Neither does the Navy.

People have no idea how unprepared the US military is for a real fight. What is left of the annual military budget that doesn't go 'missing' - trillions - goes to purchasing hi-tech weapon systems that don't work. What little is left pays salaries and food in the chow hall.

But our 'enemies' have tens of thousands of state-of-the-art missile systems that are all ready to go.

We don't stand a chance, unless the goal is mutual suicide. Now what would a bunch of Satan worshippers do?

and just where has all the 'locked-up' liquidity gone?

Too risky. There is no way to tell what he might bomb or where his plane will crash.

the navy can't keep pilots from passing out in training exercises as the marines and air force also having same problems. (only hear about the navy?)

obama let go dozens (perhaps hundreds) of top brass in the defense dept as did bush jr., and clinton...--- why?

was it insubordination???

this reminds me of Stain's 'Great Purge' of the 'red Army in 1937-38 killing off thousands of top military commanders...--- why???    why the link, i just feel a connection?            Ps. just boggles the mind what dictators can get away with..., without transparency!

???? GOT-IT!

here in the ussa (ya don know how lucky ya are) we retire them, rather than killing them? imagine a pilot junking a $35 million F-?? ereoplane in the side of a mountain [?]...--- isn't very cost effective even for the MIC!

It's probably more likely that these military pilots, once they have received military training, quickly realize the profit potential by resigning their commission and becoming civilian airline pilots.

If the F/A-18 Hornet fighter pilot realizes that he can make ten times his military salary in the civilian world, flying the equivalent to a Greyhound bus, then can you really blame them?

JRobby's picture

Read Sully's book. They used to be paid well considering the level of training, skill, knowledge and experience required.

Not Too Important's picture

Drones have to be flown by pilots. Pilots don't want to go through all that training just to sit at a game console all day. So a lot of existing and potential pilots just say screw it, and go do something else.

When they put enlisted airmen at the drone game consoles and pilots in airplanes, things will improve. But the lag time is horrendous, if high school kids aren't planning on taking the college classes they need to be pilots. It's a 5-6 year timeframe from when .mil does change their rules, and it doesn't look like that will be anytime soon.

Of course, smart kids will be learning about foreign missile systems compared to the POS called the F-35, and never give flying another thought. I would guess most USAF and Navy planes would go down in a few hours anywhere near a hot zone.

If I was a smart kid in high school, for instance, and realized that after a million dollars in debt to become a doctor only to make $60,000 in whatever mess of a healthcare system we will have in 12 years, why bother.

Besides, there won't be anything left in 8 years but nuclear cancer and death, and that's if the NWO doesn't blow the place up beforehand.

Nobody For President's picture

Drone pilots no longer need to be aircraft pilots. There is a new classification - Drone Pilot, with wings and all. Turns out kids that spent a lot of time on video games and sims make fine drone pilots...

tmosley's picture

Seems like they should be recruiting drone operators more than pilots.

Or really, AI programmers, so the drones can fight on their own.
