Stephen Hawking: Earth Will Become A Flaming Ball Of Fire By 2600

Authored by Mac Slavo via SHTFplan.com,

Physicist and professor Stephen Hawking is warning that earth will become a flaming ball of fire by the year 2600.

He also warns that if humans want to avoid permanent extinction, we should be making plans to evacuate the earth.

Hawking claims that mankind will destroy the earth making it a fireball within the next 600 years. The renowned physicist believes soaring population sizes and consequential increasing demands for energy and food will lead to the catastrophe. Hawking also says that humanity should begin looking to the stars to avoid this fate, with our nearest neighbor Alpha Centauri the best candidate for our escape. Hawking also urged financial backers to put funds behind a project that would send probes to the star system.

The Alpha Centauri system is the closest star system to our sun and consists of three stars. Of those three stars, Proxima is the closest to our sun. At a mere 4.367 light years away, on our sky’s dome, we see this multiple star system as a single star – the third-brightest star visible from Earth. And it’s this system that Hawking has his eye on.

Hawking made the comments while speaking via video link at the Tencent Web Summit, held in Beijing. The British cosmologist, who was diagnosed with motor neuron disease at age 21, is backing the Breakthrough Starshot project. That project will likely see a probe sent to Alpha Centauri in the very near future; 20 years or so.

“The idea behind this innovation is to have the nano craft on the light beam. Such a system could reach Mars in less than an hour, or reach Pluto in days, pass Voyager in under a week and reach Alpha Centauri in just over 20 years,” Hawking said praising the Breakthrough Starshot project. Astronomers feel that there is a reasonable chance that an Earth-like planet exists in one of the habitable zones within the star system too.

Right now, the fastest spacecraft would take 30,000 years to reach Alpha Centauri. But Hawking also threw another doomsday prediction on the table.  At the 2017 Web Summit, held in Lisbon and attended by around 60,000 people, he warns that AI (artificial intelligence) is on the verge of replacing people.

According to Hawking, humanity must be prepared to tackle artificial intelligence to stop robots replacing people. Hawking said the technology could transform every aspect of life in some good ways, but cautioned that intelligent machines pose new challenges. He said robots are already threatening millions of jobs but that this new revolution could be used to help society and for the good of the world, including alleviating poverty and disease.

The rise of AI could be the worst or the best thing that has happened for humanity,” Hawking said via video link at the opening night of the summit on Monday.

“We simply need to be aware of the dangers, identify them, employ the best possible practice and management and prepare for its consequences well in advance.”

No matter what people here or elsewhere have to say about it, one thing is guaranteed: The earth will either go on chugging along "forever", or it will morph into a giant flaming hellhole. So those are the options, and it is not a political question it is a totally geological issue. Either it happens or not, and all the blowhards belching out their "political opinions" will have no effect one way or another.

Rather than droning on and on about pollution, and "carbon credits" and all the other horseshit, I'm looking at the the new methane "potholes" that are suddenly erupting in Siberia, and no doubt in upper Canada (but maybe "they" don't tell us about that?). If this "clathrate gun" triggers a sudden release of vast quantities of methane we will all fry like chickens on a giant rotisserie. It's simply about geology, not politics.

It's ludicrously pathetic when all these alt-right people "adopt" one point of view while the fake-left simultaneously gloms on to the exact opposite position for no real reason, and then they rant and argue about it forevermore. When they all could, by chance, have adopted flip-side dogmas and carried on forevermore in just the same fashion. Sometimes I think that the human body is explicitly designed to satisfy the needs of its asshole.

Yes, yes, the planet is over-populated and we are going to "send" some people to populate other planets and that is why you will never see them again.  That is definitely what happened.  They are happy and they don't want to speak with you again because they are too busy - errr, they're sleeping for 100 years becoz that is how long it takes to get to the other "planet".  Yeah, that's what happened.  And they sold their house and all their stuff so they could afford to pay for the ticket.  You should go too so you can be with them.  Think how lucky you will be to avoid this planet turning into a fire ball.  Think of your children ...

Hawking is another anointed priest who really never did anything of real value. He is now a political pseudo-scientist pushing the PC lines of thought on the environment.

As much as he bugs me, he was taught the incorrect model of the universe, IMHO.

There is a much more coherent, holistic model of our universe, one that was abandoned after politics and the worship of Albert Einstein hijacked modern physics and cosmology turning it into a broken game of advanced mathematics, not real science.

The electric universe was a leading model until the early 1900s. It was resurrected in the 1980s by a couple of scientists. Today their group is a methods and experiment-based effort and they are answering most of the Standard Model anomalies in not only the theoretical area, but actually predicting the results of many probe experiments done by NASA/JPL on comets and our Solar System. They hold an annual conference with more than 40 highly qualified speakers from a wide array of disciplines. This is a DEEP dive but very rewarding. Enjoy:

I stopped watching the first YouTube video linked above when (very early on) a mythologist was featured to help explain how millenia-old myths allegedly got it right.  Am I really supposed to believe that  Einstein's theories of relativity (so elegantly simple and yet so mathematically profound) can be completely undone by a mythologist showing us various simple drawings (with similar themes) made by early man (in different parts of the world)?

Internet-is-Beast's picture

I've tried broaching this methane threat on ZH before and it is clear that it doesn't resonate with this crowd. In general, they don't seem to have much interest in science, being mostly lawyers and financial types. For instance, whenever the subject of Einstein comes up, there are those who tend to berate him as someone who stole ideas from others or they try to replace his theory of gravity with that crackpot electric universe idea. Many have never actually studied relativity, even special relativity, which is the logical consequence of Maxwell's discovery that the speed of light in the vacuum is a numerical constant. (What a pity--it is an absolutely beautiful theory and can be understood with high school math!) There are also some flat earthers who spout off periodically. Science education really seems to be in a perilous state these days, even though we are currently in a golden age of physics in particular. Hawking has come in for a fair amount of abuse as well. I can't say much about him since his discoveries cannot be understood by those who do not specialize in his type of relativity research, even if you understand tensors and all that.

Hugh_Jorgan's picture

Crackpot Electric Universe? Seriously?

How many places does the Standard Model apply fudge factors or rife speculation to allow them to continue on their erroneous line of reasoning? I'll give you a hint, it's almost one hundred. Einstein received a Nobel Prize for the one valuable thing he gave us, the photoelectric effect. The rest of his ideas were interesting but were little more than flights of fancy, none of which have been verified but did spawn a sea of contrivances to continue to this day. $15B CERN has solidified the abject failure of the Standard Model. It all began with the cosmological constant which Einstein called it one of the biggest mistakes of his career.

The Electric Universe model needs no such apologetics. Spend the time to understand it instead of dismissing it as your professors would. It IS a paradigm shift but it was also something Maxwell thought highly of in his day.

Internet-is-Beast's picture

Tell me who are the Nobel Prize winners in electric universe theory.

Do you deny that the speed of light is constant, as discovered by Maxwell and subsequently used by Einstein in special relativity?

Do you understand the need for Lorentz transformations and how they follow from the fact that the speed of light is constant?

Do you understand the equivalence principle which expresses the gravitational force as an acceleration?

Do you understand how the Einstein field equations show that mass tells space how to bend and the curvature of space tells mass how to move?

What problem do you have with the above considerations, given that they are entirely natural and logical and require no leaps of faith?

Do you understand the role that special relativity place in quantum field theory?

Do you understand how the Higgs boson was predicted by assuming a massless gauge field and symmetry breaking? Does finding this particle using the LHC represent a massive failure?

My understanding is that physicists now regard the cosmological constant nowadays as a very fortunate supposition of Einstein. You are aware that relativity, both special and general has had astounding success in its numerical predictions? Relativity is essential for GPS, for example.

bluez's picture

Um, yeah. Electromagnetic force is always a combination of magnetic field strength and electrostatic force. At any significant distance from its source the strength of a magnetic field drops off in proportion to the inverse cube of distance. In the vastness of space that is damn fast. Electrostatic field strength drops off in proportion to the inverse square of the distance from its source, so for example, if you move --/ x /-- inches away from a lamp, and that diminishes the intensity by 1/2, then if you move --/ 2 times x /-- inches away, the intensity will diminish to 1/4. In the vastness of space the inverse cube diminution is overwhelmingly greater than the inverse square diminution, so we can forget about magnetic fields.

And it is quite well established that electrostatic fields are statistically balanced out in nearly all regions of space larger than planet-and-moon systems. Thus gravity, which has no known "negative" counterpart, and whose force drops off in proportion to the inverse square of distance, is what exerts the only significant influence.

Seriously, if mankind manages to destreoy this beautiful planet and to extinct itself, then that is what mankind deserves. Spreading to other planets where we would just repeat the exercise strikes me as something that the universe can really live without.

Seriously, even if he is the same fucker that's been around for so long (which I highly doubt) - *anyone* could be talking through that voice box. How would we know otherwise?

What better mouthpiece than a 'scientist genius' who is completely handicapped in order to stimulate a "compassion" response, thus giving more weight to his words than anyone else?

I just don't buy it, or ANYTHING that is said by these poor re-creations.

Gorgeous's picture

One would have to seriously doubt a science genius is worried about the earth both turning into a ball of flame and being taken over by AI bots.  Because the AI bots would surely become intelligent enough to stop burning coal and build windmills to plug themselves into, and pay their carbon taxes. And the bot collective would surely recognize that the Deniers should be the first to get Darwined. To make the planet safe again.

The earth-will-be- A- flaming-ball-fire- in the year 2600 .. (in robotic Stephen Hawking s speak)

Well here's the thing, ain't nobody here gonna be around, including him I presume, to prove him wrong.

I mean just try it ..

Make up anything, and you know, just throw it out there ..

Watch

The earth will be a ball of fire, like much sooner than that .. In fact next month looks good .. nothing else scheduled.

See how easy that is !?

Okay, everybody now !

Exactly.  Any doomcaster worth his brimstone knows that a good time-frame has to outlast the audience.  Gore botched it when he said our children would never see snow and the ice caps would be melted by 2014, because the time came and passed, and we're still here to see the mud on his face.

Tyler understands: "On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero."  <-- Who among us will volunteer to hang around and see this through?

Even if 2600 is 600 years away, putting a specific date on (what is reputedly) Hawkings' warning makes this doomcast sound more like it came from (a propagandist like) Al Gore than from a serious, fully functioning astrophysicist.
