Facebook Founder Warns "God Only Knows What It's Doing To Kids' Brains"

Tyler Durden's picture

38-year-old founding president of Facebook, Sean Parker, was uncharacteristically frank about his creation in an interview with Axios. So much so in fact that he concluded, Mark Zuckerberg will probably block his account after reading this.

Confirming every 'big brother' conspiracy there is about the social media giant, Parker explained how social networks purposely hook users and potentially hurt our brains...

"When Facebook was getting going, I had these people who would come up to me and they would say, 'I'm not on social media.' And I would say, 'OK. You know, you will be.' And then they would say, 'No, no, no. I value my real-life interactions. I value the moment. I value presence. I value intimacy.' And I would say, ... 'We'll get you eventually.'"

"I don't know if I really understood the consequences of what I was saying, because [of] the unintended consequences of a network when it grows to a billion or 2 billion people and ... it literally changes your relationship with society, with each other ... It probably interferes with productivity in weird ways. God only knows what it's doing to our children's brains."

"The thought process that went into building these applications, Facebook being the first of them, ... was all about: 'How do we consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible?'"

"And that means that we need to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in a while, because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever. And that's going to get you to contribute more content, and that's going to get you ... more likes and comments."

"It's a social-validation feedback loop ... exactly the kind of thing that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you're exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology."

"The inventors, creators — it's me, it's Mark [Zuckerberg], it's Kevin Systrom on Instagram, it's all of these people — understood this consciously. And we did it anyway."

In this 'confessional', it appears Parker has become "something of a conscientious objector" on social media.

Howeever , as Axios notes, Parker ends with just enough crazy to make you wonder...

"Because I'm a billionaire, I'm going to have access to better health care so ... I'm going to be like 160 and I'm going to be part of this, like, class of immortal overlords. [Laughter]

Because, you know the [Warren Buffett] expression about compound interest. ... [G]ive us billionaires an extra hundred years and you'll know what ... wealth disparity looks like."

My God! Who would have ever imagined that!! Young people stopped using Facebook years ago. I remember my daughters telling me (2 years ago) "dad, no one uses facebook anymore". Due to the fact that one cannot delete your facebook account - just place in in the unused / dormant state. The accounts numbers keep rising till the advertisers find out the whole business model is a scam. A better metric would be to track actual posts to pages - I would think the numbers are in terminal decline. This is stupidity at its finest!

I bet she is posting on instagram.  One way or another...

I'm just a FB stalker. I can tell there's not as much activity on a businesse's homepage. (Thanks Google, for the albeit limited access.)

fb wants to make friends with everyone. the only problem is that you will end up adding people who don't like you and they will block your account losing all the pictures you have and unable to get access to the websites where you were signing in with the fb account

If you rely on a female teen for analysis of societal issues you need help. Female teens do not think. They react and follow the dictates of their hormonal imbalances. Poor creatures. I feel sorry for their plight.

I don't do facefuck or other social media.  I do some linkedin, but that is it. Ghostery takes care of the rest.  Look, look.. look at spot... see spot on facefuck

spastic_colon's picture

i dont do any of the socials.....not because i dont need the constant life affirmations, but moreso because i dont necessarily need or like hanging out with people that much, i do on occassion but do not seek it out by any means.

It's a huge liability in respect to security

when you read the legal weasel they all are bound to 3rd party agreements.. of 3rd party agreements.. which is to say there is no security

just post all you PI online if you care to do so

what ires me is those who made the promises to keep info safe and fucked that up...

so it's like pretending that it will not happen, either the abuse of the data or the breach

real simple.. don't enter PI into a system and it cannot be lifted

I have specific systems for specific use

I don't use a cell phone as an example for banking

spastic_colon's picture

this is why their companies and stocks do so well; they are subsidized by .gov whom will of course never divulge the extent to which they pay for your info; probably shows up in their quarterly's under special, non-GAAP, adjusted, off balance sheet, footnote, line item.

"We'll get you eventually.'"

Sorry dipshit, you're totally wrong on that one.  There's people out there you didn't "get", and I'm far from being the only one. And then there's this little gem:

I'm going to be like 160 and I'm going to be part of this, like, class of immortal overlords. [Laughter]

What an arrogant prick!  There's probably thousands out there that will go out of their way to make damn sure that never happens just because he had the temerity to say something like that.

No one under 25 uses Fuckbook.  So its doing nothing to their brains.

But that fact will destroy Fuckbook's valuations.

Sofa King's picture

You're right about that.  Kids  want nothing to do with this shit...it's all the look-at-me 20somethings and up.  The old people like it cause, well to be frank, they're old so who knows what the fuck is going on in their minds.

As far as this douche-nozzle goes, I think the term kids are using nowadays for this type of ass-clown is SPED.

RKae's picture

Old folks: it's about pictures of grandkids.

They'll sell their souls for pictures of grandkids.

Good God.

amadeus39's picture

You got a problem with that? I can think of worse things to sell one's soul for.

Yes, I understood it as well and chose not to exploit people. In the end, all these pysop vampires will hang for their crimes against humanity. Final death.

pynky01's picture

...exploit human psychological vulnerability is what the marxist jews do best... we know what the prompt is... the question is what did all those people (who threw the jews out of their country)  know that we idiots can't seem to grasp ... for some reason Americans have been dumbed down to the point that we cannot connect the dots... like the traitor jew kissinger said... Jews have been persecuted for 2000 years ...they must be doing something wrong... but hey we got fb goog yt ...to play with... good luck to all you cattle/debt slaves...at this point I am too old to care ...however, let's get these wars going I would like to see a few nukes go off before I die...

That's one reason why I QUIT FB years ago was the the fact FB tracked every website you went to and if you wanted to leave a comment, it defaulted to your FB account. NO THANK YOU !

If you know to open up a website HTML code, you will see that almost all websites have FB code in them to TRACK you !! That should scare the crap out of everyone concerning privacy !

Maybe I should send my genitalia pic to Facebook so they can protect it?

It's a fucking joke people.. Win10 update sees to have broken allot of shit last night, that and flash.  But look at how callous these tech companies are in respect to invading your privacy?  I can imagine the youth of tomorrow to log in to facebook to figure out why they got a tinder rash!

GoyimUprising's picture

I tried to send mine, but the file size exceeded their limits.

Irrational number's picture

on fb you will be blocked for the "genitalia" word

hola dos cola's picture

The Win10 update... Now that's worth an article on ZH. Really. And I kid you not.

I used to use FB until I pissed off everyone I knew by speaking the truth.

We should commission studies...have Congressional hearings...no amount of resources are too great to get to the bottom of this.

Or, people could deactivate their accounts already and allow this advertising machine to mercifully die on the vine.

Wonder which option we'll choose?

31 yo male, disconnected from facebook and twitter about 3-4 years ago.  It was fun in college ('04-08).  After that it became depressing, watching friends transition at various paces into "real life".  At that point it evolved into some sort of strange, fake competition.  So I don't miss it at all.  I'm free to live life at my pace, without others watching in, and without the temptation of comparing myself to anyone else.

Cash Is King's picture

No offense but truthfully, you should have learned all that shtt before college! Your parents failed you not FB & TWTR. Thankfully, you had the epiphany before you wasted your entire adult life chasing your friends successes. JM2C.

affirmed_78's picture

Nah, my parents were great.  It's FB that leads people down that dark path.  Since I was an adult, it was my choice to participate or not.  I'm just glad I unplugged when I did.  Judging from their last earnings report, most people are still stuck on it.

The Divided Stoopids of DuhMerica's picture

I laugh at fakebook!!!

Don't even know how to use the stupid fucking dumb waste of time.

Only retarded cud-chewing herd animals would get caught up in that bullshit...

About 99% of all stupid fuckers out there.

konputa's picture

The fuck you will douchebag. Like many here, I'm not on FucktardBook and I will not join.  Oh and I don't use services that require federated logins.

You want to hurt these guys? Boycott porn, sm, tv, radio. Get a life whilst draining their revenue streams. Find alternatives to all the mainstream commodities - socks, jocks, diapers, food, (((they))) have a lock on all of it. Keep score by the number of corporate layoffs and corporate tools getting the boot.

RKae's picture

Sounds good, but although it clears my conscience, it doesn't hurt them.

I haven't had a Coke in 40 years. They're still around.

I don't go to Disney movies or Disneyland. They're still around.

I don't patronize Starbucks... etc.

pynky01's picture

same here ...boycotts are for sissys ...karma is way too slow for me... it is fast coming the time we will have to make a choice... you want to live on your knees or you want a future for your children... for me and my family we are loaded for the ((( ))) who come a knockin at our door...as they say in nawlins let the good times roll...let's dance...
