Dan Hannan Destroys The Growing Support For 'Socialism' In 100 Seconds

Tyler Durden's picture

How is it that 100 years after The Bolshevik Revolution there are still people saying the idea of socialism wasn't so bad?

British MEP Daniel Hannan exposes the ignorance of this line of thinking... in 100 seconds.

Still... what are historical facts worth when you have virtue to signal!?

Socialism with global fiat. You can spend other peoples money for quite a long time.

Those who have 1st access to the newly printed money get the maximum benefit before inflation kicks in.

By the time your fiat currency, on paper or electronic, changes hands a dozen times it's already lost a chunk of it's value.

Great video, nice start.  The next theme is we are not all equal.  Pick the battles you can win for yourself and learn to enjoy the results.

Somewhere has campus reform has a video where they go around campuses asking a couple of questions:

Q: Do you like socialism?

A: Yeah!  It's great!  It helps people and blah blah blah...

Q: What is socialism?

A: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh!?  Derp?

We can all be equal in the eyes of the law. What we are not and will never be is identical.

Marxism deliberately conflates equal and identical; it is absolutely by design, not accident.. Since no two people, not even "identical" twins, will ever actually be identical, this is a guaranteed method of keeping the populace so busy fighting amongst themselves that they don't notice the communists making off with all the wealth.

And that is the one and only real point of it all. "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." The only true, intended beneficiaries of communism are the leaders, the more equal animals.

Now Rick Cormier in Socialism: Americans can be one major illness away from homelessness because we might not be able to afford our medical bill. But, when our home is burning and we need the Fire Dept. ... we never wonder whether we can afford to call them. We just call them with no awareness that it is one of the socialist systems we are depending on.

And MEFOBILLS on Communism: Communism is super capitalism.

Now back to propaganda.

+1 on the fire department ... but don't forget firemen are on more than the minimum wage and all the equiment, fire insurance etc is all capitalist.

Capitalism is built on the socialism then it sucks it dry as you keep trying throw money at it to make it work.

Answer:  because the Socialists, Marxists, Fascists, Globalists, Eugenicists, Satanists, Pedophiles, Cult-creeps, psychopaths, sociopaths, etc. etc. ec. haven't killed enough of us people yet.

But those fuckers won't stop trying, and that's why we are here to stop them!!!

Socialism, like any "ism", works until you run out of cheap energy.

HenryHall's picture

@El Vaquero

> Q. What is socialism?

A. To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible upon the basis of the common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange, and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry or service. (Labour Party, 1918-1995).

Q. Has socialism been tried?

A. Yes, the 1945 government of Clement Attlee for example. Largely undone by the followon governments of W.Churchill and A.Eden. Maumau, Suez etc..

Not that Attlee was perfect, he made a HUGE mistake in agreeing to join the Americans in a war in Korea. A war that Britain could not afford to take part in and suffered ENORMOUSLY the consequences of resultant insolvency. Easily the biggest mistake made by postwar Britain.

This article is pure propaganda. It gets everything so wrong that I don’t know where to start.

Bolshevism is a right wing deviation, because the left wing of Russia revolution lost.

Don't take my word for it. Research it yourself.

Below is an example: This book was written by Lenin.

"Left-Wing" Communism: An Infantile Disorder. Detskaya Bolezn' "Levizny" v Kommunizme) is a work by Vladimir Lenin attacking assorted critics of the Bolsheviks who claimed positions to their left. Most of these critics were proponents of ideologies later described as left communism.

The book was written in 1920 and published in Russian, German, English and French later in the year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22Left-Wing%22_Communism:_An_Infantile_Disorder

It is for sure conflating authoritarian systems with economic systems. But that is because you can't implement collectivism without force, which is why it will inevitably fail. If it isn't voluntary it isn't real.

"Communism forgets that life is individual. Capitalism forgets that life is social, and the kingdom of brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of communism nor the antithesis of capitalism but in a higher synthesis that combines the truths of both." MLKjr

Call the fire department and they just come but it's not the same in every community:  How many come, with what equipment, from what distance, with what training, with how much delay?  They are volunteers in my community, expensive union in other communities, refurbished used euipment in my community, new state of the art in other communities.  I can see the firehouse 1/4 mile away in my community, miles away in other communities.

Fire help, maybe once every 10yrs for people, even possibly 20yrs.  Go to the doctor that often and we can probably afford your "free" healthcare.....but it still won't be the same as someone else's "free" health care.

I believe you think your firehouse vs. healthcare facilty comparisons are viable, you've been well programmed.  Reminds me of SJW that compare mandatory driver's liability insurance to mandatory Obamacare and think conservatives are just giving the golden kneegrow an unneccesary hard time.

Escrava Isaura's picture

Throw money at is not socialism.

It’s crony capitalism.

HopefulCynical's picture

What you commies all call "capitalism" is actually banksterism. It's debt-money and it's designed to be purely parasitic in nature. Those who own the money supply use it to extract the wealth of the entire society into their own pockets.

This has nothing to do with free market economics. In fact, free markets are prevented by debt-money grift.

There's a reason the Communist Manifesto calls for the creation of a central bank. Again, everything in Marxism is ultimately for the benefit of the ruling class, even as they claim that their system is designed to do away with such  class. It's all a bald faced lie, sold to mediocre simpletons with a grievance against the excellence that they know they'll never obtain. Marxism is ultimately powered and sustained by jealousy and resentment.

Escrava Isaura's picture

Your history is very distorted and selective. Let's see if we can shed some light.

Anarchists have the wider back, because they can tolerate more than conservatives and liberals can. I am a liberal.

Conservatism has the narrowest back. Conservatism like people that looks at thinks like them.

Liberal and conservatives like structures. Top down.

Anarchists, if they are really anarchists, are the opposite. There won’t be inequality. Land has no right.  Anarchists have patience for mediocrity. Anarchists are not aggressive and greedy. Anarchists don’t care about efficiency.

If the anarchists were running the industrial society, you would not see either state or private power. You would see worker’s councils, consumer councils, communities’ assemblies. You would see regional banks with their own currencies. All representation would be local.

HopefulCynical's picture

I spoke of free markets and of communism, also of debt-based financial grift. Nowhere did I mention anarchy or conservatism. Therefore, your attempt was to obfuscate, not to shed light. Here is some light shed on your assertions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VogzExP3qhI

css1971's picture

You're not a Liberal. You're just a Fascist who doesn't like the name.

Escrava Isaura's picture

Here’s why I am a liberal. Liberals can adjust the think. Liberals can, and do change the approach.

Excerpt from you link, but there were many more that I could have used:

Adopting Thomas Malthus's population theory, they saw poor urban conditions as inevitable, they believed population growth would outstrip food production and they regarded that consequence desirable, because starvation would help limit population growth. They opposed any income or wealth redistribution, which they believed would be dissipated by the lowest orders.

Neither starvation to limit population growth and income dissipating happen. The contrary is the true. There are no easy fixes but, I would have started by educating the population about not having too many children in the 50’s.

And, on income disparity, if it grows beyond a certain amount, say 10 times more than the workers, these people would be taxed at a higher rate.

A liberal should know that it’s too late for those solutions to work, or make a difference now. The conservatives, on the other hand, wouldn’t have even tried addressing those, because they don’t see population growth and inequality as problems.

SummerSausage's picture

What you describe is still socialism. A handful of elites deciding how the pie is divided up - with the biggest slice always going to them and their friends.

GreatUncle's picture

I can only guess capitalists do not recognise that your whole concept is based on socialist quicksand where the system keeps injecting liquiditiy in it and hence the downvote.

SummerSausage's picture

Under capitalism if it doesn't find a buyer who will voluntarily pay and a seller who will voluntarily sell at that price, it fails and a new product/service appears to fill the need.

In socialism, money is taken by force to purchase the unsatisfactory, unwanted product people rejeted and another program is demanded by government, funded by more confiscated wages,  to do what the first one did not.  Current example: Obamacare.

Billy the Poet's picture

Capital is the investment you make today in order to be more productive tomorrow. A farmer who sharpens his plow has invested in capital. Please explain how plows are based on draining socialism dry.

Many times it would be better to let the structure burn up completely rather than let the fire department rush in to save a burned out shell.  A shell by the way that you have to pay to have removed, a cost not covered by your insurance.

The real purpose of the fire department is to keep your fire from burning the neighbor’s house down.

Billy the Poet's picture

But, when our home is burning and we need the Fire Dept. ... we never wonder whether we can afford to call them. We just call them with no awareness that it is one of the socialist systems we are depending on.

You are the one who is unaware. My town of 4400 has three volunteer fire departments.

People can organize themselves voluntarily in order to provide safety and security to the community. Your plan to steal our money today (and tomorrow through massive pensions) is nothing more than a scam.

BAYONNE, N.J. — Newly retired city Fire Chief Greg Rogers will receive an annual pension of $167,118 and a payout of $231,798 for unused vacation, sick time and terminal leave, according to state and city records.

Rogers, whose annual base salary was $241,080 at the time of his retirement on March 1, served in the city Fire Department for more than 35 years and worked as fire chief for nearly eight years.

jin187's picture

Does that mean in a communist country, I just call the yacht service without considering the cost, and they will build me whatever yacht I want?

Joking aside, one of the issues we face in this crony quasi-capitalist country, is the huge unfunded liabilities being racked up by socialized programs no one thinks about, like the fire department. Many localities have had to close their fire departments, and/or merge with others just to pay the massive pensions, health coverage, and other kickbacks enjoyed by public employees. As more and more fire departments see their resources stretched too thin to provide adequate coverage, those with means have also begun to hire private firefighters to protect high value properties.

Wall Street and the Boshevik Revolution By Antony C. Sutton

We find there was a link between some New York international bankers and many revolutionaries, including Bolsheviks. These banking gentlemen — who are here identified — had a financial stake in, and were rooting for, the success of the Bolshevik Revolution.

One barrier to mature understanding of recent history is the notion that all capitalists are the bitter and unswerving enemies of all Marxists and socialists. This erroneous idea originated with Karl Marx and was undoubtedly useful to his purposes. In fact, the idea is nonsense. There has been a continuing, albeit concealed, alliance between international political capitalists and international revolutionary socialists — to their mutual benefit. This alliance has gone unobserved largely because historians — with a few notable exceptions — havean unconscious Marxian bias and are thus locked into the impossibility of any such alliance existing.

Hans-Zandvliet's picture

That's it: excelent example; 100/100 points.

And you ignorant Gringos, who anounce the death of socialism every month, no use to cherrish any illusions: socialism will never die!

It's simply impossible because it belongs to the human nature. Why? Because Homo sapiens sapiens is a social espicies, which means that we evolved as a sepies, through hundreds of thousands of years, living in groups. Living in a group means having the capacity to negotiate with your fellow tribesmen and tribeswomen, knowing how to compromise between your own interests and those of the others, how to define and persue common interests together.

The roots of socialism are fundamentally nothing more and nothing less than just that: behaving in a social way (because, you see, that's the root of this -ism in the first place!); a way of living together (a social contract, that is: the basic agreements of living together) that can be supported and agreed upon by all group members (be it a tribe or a nation).

Democracy is fundamentally an instrument to organize these basic agreements in a larger group (a nation of millions), where all members cannot know every other member personally anymore (since the stone age, social groups have become larger and more complicated).

Capitalism is the enemy of humanity, because it fundamentally promotes the interests of the individual over the shared interests of the group as a whole. Many people (specially in the US!) think that a capitalist economy equals a democratic society, but captitalism is fundamentally the opposite of a democracy and, like the Monopoly game, enevitably leads to more and more wealth and power in the hands of less and less people. The capitalist Monopoly game will not end until ONE SINGLE PERSON owns everything and everyone else on our planet, unless the game is disrupted by the dispossesed. We can see the evidence of this game all arround us:

  • Transnational coorporations buying the votes of the people's democratic representatives in congress
  • The military-security-industrial-political complex (in other words, the Deep State) doinging whatever it wants to make more profits, regardless of the will of the people and the puppet-president they voted into the White House.
  • The dissappearing middle-class, the increasing poverty in the (once) 'richest country in the world', student loan debts, bank bailouts (privatizing profits and socializing debts), collapsing bridges and potholed highways, limitless money for any futile war, but no money for affordable medical security for all, raiding pension funds (paid for by the people themselves throughout their working life) to pay off the coorporate banksters, etc, etc, etc.

Many readers of ZH denounce those corrupt capitalist treacheries every day, without ever connecting the dots: it's the very soul and consequence of capitalism; it's the inevitable outcome of the Monopoly game! They denounce the results, while continuing tho support and defend the capitalist system. Why continue to support and defend the Monopoly game when you don't like the outcome (unless, how hypocritical, you're the winner)?

Homo sapiens sapiens wasn't born a capitalist some 200,000 years ago and was free of this pathological cancer until a few centuries (arguably, millenia) ago. If we don't manage to cure ourselves from this cancer, it will lead us to our death.

Like Rosa Luxemburg said, early 20th century: "It's either socialism or barbarism". Since then, we've seen the barbarism of two world wars already and now we're well on our way to the ultimat barbarism of WW-3 (all just to advance the profits of the few filthy rich, over the corpses of millions of slaughtered poor). That's what capitalism ultimately leads to: the utter distruction of our livelyhoods (jobs outsourced) and life itself on the only planet we have: Planet Earth.

So: socialism will never die. It can never die, unless every single human being dies. Che Guevara (the picture of this article) continues to be venerated as a Saint in all of Latin America, like Bob Marley in the Caribbean, Nelson Mandela in Africa, MLK in the US, etc.

chestergimli's picture

I had read on the web many months ago from a site that said that Capitalism is Jewish usury. I suppose that the person who said this had dissected the capitalist ideal and that was the conclusion that he had come to. As far as private property is concerned, if a government an take it by hook or crook, how is it really privately owned.

We are on this planet for but a short time and anything we own is ultimately given to us by the Most High God which means that he actually owns it all. According to Genesis, the Most High God put us on this Earth to keep and dress the Earth. Would that people would know and understand this.

My grandfather was a Stalin's adviser and a member of NKVS (Stalin's secret police).

I didn't like him. I thought he was a butcher slaughtering tenths of thousands of people. Now, I changed my mind. I think he did not kill enough. Do not forget that Stalin has slaughtered overwhelming majority of Bolsheviks. These were not normal human beings. They were sadistic vampires.

Thanks to Obama and zio-banking mafia, America is on verge collapse and a brutal bloody civil/racial war. I am absolutely puzzled why zio-mafia is so eager to destroy America. After all, it will take just two thermonuclear devices to wipe out Israel from a face of the Earth. It will take a few nuke devices more to do the same to England.

Now, when I am watching CNN, MSNBC, Fox, etc., I remember "the old good times" back in USSR. There is no news in America anymore but rather only lies and propaganda. Trust me: this will have a very bad and bloody ending.

That's right folks. In a near infinite universe, among near infinite amounts of stars, and planets, this is the most important one. And being the most important one, the God of our planet is obviously the God of the entire universe, maybe even all universes. He knows everything, past, present and future, and somehow finds time to care about all of it. Every speck of dust, every fleeting molecule of anti-matter. God's there. He's watching you pee right now. Better not touch yourself to much while you do. He'll see you, know what you've done, and condemn your soul to hell for eternity because of your long list of sinful abominations against the universe, such as touching your wiener too much.

But fear not. Even if you have touched your wiener in an abominable manner, God loves you, and wants your soul in heaven. Thus, we have this book, written by random people, 99.98% of the way into human history, telling us how to get into heaven. Sorry neanderthals. Guess you should have learned to read before touching your wieners. But I digress.

So God decided one day that the only way to keep Heaven stocked with souls was to have someone suffer for our sins besides us. Yay socialism! So he knocked up a North African with a white baby named Yeshua. We just call him JEEBUS so people south of the Mason-Dixon line can pronounce it. JEEBUS traveled a small part of the world doing good works, entrusting only the Romans and their sycophants with his message from God, because fuck Asia, America, and Africa. That message being, that you just have to accept him as your lord and savior, and none of your sins would keep you from getting into Heaven. Using their new Hell Immunity powers, hordes of Christian barbarians from the former Roman Empire pillaged the land with fire and sword, forging the great civilizations we have today out of the bones of heathens, and quenching them with the tears of rape victims and orphaned children.

So yeah, don't abandon God. Without him and JEEBUS, we wouldn't be sitting here right now, chugging Irish Car Bombs, and using the leftovers on filthy Protestants. We wouldn't have PS4, or microtransactions. Most importantly, we would have to go to Hell every time we touched our wieners. Praise be to JEEBUS!

Your diatribe failed to convince me.  You want to believe that life and our seemingly infinite universe just sort of happened, I am cool with that. If I am wrong and there is no God so be it. If you are wrong, Jeebus may not be happy with you. We all worship something. Choose wisely.
