Aircraft Carrier Enterprise Sets Off On Final Journey - Direction Iran
Today at noon Eastern, the storied aircraft carrier Enterprise, aka CVN-65, left its home port of Naval Station Norfolk one final time for its final voyage with a heading: Arabian Sea, aka Iran. There in a week it will join CVN 72 Lincoln and CVN 70 Vinson, as well as LHD 8 Makin Island, all of which are supporting any potential escalation of "hostilities" in the Persian Gulf region. As a reminder, back in January we learned that the Enterprise's final voyage will be in proximity to Iran, and in the meantime, the aircraft carrier held extended drills off the Florida coast to attack a "faux theocracy" consisting of fundamentalist "Shahida" states. Why the Arabian Sea in about 7-10 days will be home to not two but three aircraft carriers and a big deck amphibious warfare ship is very much an open question, although we may have some thoughts.

Thousands of sailors will deploy today from Norfolk on the USS Enterprise for the last time on Sunday.
Nearly 5,500 Sailors aboard the ships of the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group (ENT CSG) are scheduled to deploy from Naval Stations Norfolk and Mayport, Fla., March 9, 11 and 12, to support operations with the U.S. Navys 5th and 6th Fleets.
The aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65), commanded by Capt. William C. Hamilton Jr., will depart from Naval Station Norfolk for the ships 22nd and final deployment March 11.
CVN 65 will not be alone:
After the Enterprise leaves Sunday, three Norfolk-based guided-missile destroyers will head out Monday — the USS Porter, USS Nitze and USS James E. Williams.
The strike group is commanded by Rear Adm. Ted Carter Jr.
Carrier Air Wing 1, based at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, will be embarked aboard the Enterprise.
The Enterprise was launched September 24, 1960, by Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. and commissioned November 25, 1961.
Its record of high-profile service began with the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Since then, it has served in countless missions around the world.

There is indeed a German club. My son is learning German (has two years of it already). I guess you could say they do try to conquer the "next district" come to think of it. He was joking with me how all the language clubs at school got together for an assembly, and the German club was the only club that was able to get all their members there in their German club jerseys and uniform pants (pressed to the nines). The rest of the language club students were not that organized!! They were seriously trippin', they even filed in and out orderly! Total German Geeks.
They bring in German food and have a party twice a year. They want to go to a good German restaurant, we will see if they can pull it together, or not. They have a facebook page, the circulate German rock music and literature. They LOOOVE their German teacher (this guy is a trip, he looks and feels like Jesus Christ with a nice trim haircut and beard, soooo calm). I'm very glad my son chose German. He thinks the language sounds wonderful, can't stand French.

I was on the carrier USS Independence in the late 90's. We were in the Gulf with 2 other carriers with 2 more in the North Arabian Sea.
We were sure the shit was about to hit the fan and guess what?
All that happened was that 2 of the carriers rotated out of the Gulf and the 2 in the North Arabian Sea rotated in.
And month later we left and headed back to Japan.
Am I the only one but where are the airplanes on the Enterprise deck? It seems to me that if a carrier would start the journey all the aircraft planes used for the operation + material would loaded on the ship. I only saw one chopper and looking to the photo's it's a big crew and no planes? Or are all the jetfighters below deck or was this already planned as preparation for the sinking, no precious jetfighters lost... Seems Fishy

Jets need a certain angle to land safely on a carrier, they will get to the ship once it's in safe distance and has room for then birds to land! They'll be there don't worry!!! Same thing when they "fly off" once the cruise is over, one day before "port" they all return to their home bases!
The aircraft join the ship later that day and the following day once they are safely out to sea. Then they get 24 point tiedowns and then the order given to go 'flank speed" which is pretty fN fast. Last time I headed out over their with my fighter squadron Vf-143 Pukin Dogs F-14 outfit we were in the persion gulf in about 12 days. We were hauling ass so fast we were shooting rooster tails above the fantail. What a thrill ride that was and oh yeah, forget what they say in the books as it fastest speed of 33 plus knots..I guarantee you we were doing twice that speed or very close to it. Did a short stint on the Big E. Nice boat but I like the bigger flight deck of CVN-73 George Washington which was what I was on.

We're near an AF base in FL. We're used to practice flights and enjoy them (sons enjoy the jets). There have been more planes in the sky than usual recently - especially the night flights. Guess this explains it a bit. A Radio report mentioned it -too - said not to worry, just more practice for those Raptor pilots (the base had previously received a bunch more o' those jets). Well, things could get interesting.
Same thing out of Maguire AFB. KC 135 refuelers and the globe masters. I even saw a Navy P3C Orion which is rare. The last time I saw this much airforce traffic was when the surge was announced. War is coming.
