Alessio Rastani Makes Prime Time TV Circuit

Tyler Durden's picture

The "BBC TV" trader, whose clip Zero Hedge first presented to the broader world and has since become an internet sensation with well over 1 million views, has just made the prime time TV circuit with a first stop on CNN. Here is some more of his story.

Jim Boulden has more:

Firstly, Rastani is an amateur trader using his own money (as a "hobby", he has told other media) and he's not registered with the Financial Services Authority to trade other people's money. He doesn't claim otherwise, but there was a feeling after his first interview that he was some sort of suit from the City or Wall Street giving sage advice to his clients.

He does or can have other clients though. His website calls him a speaker and trainer of others who want to trade.

In my interview, Rastani said he does trade being prepared for a recession, but that as a "human being you don't want it. As a trader you think differently. You're going to have volatile... conditions to make money in that market."

He also said he was a religious man. He was also clearly nervous about the whole affair and was undecided for an hour to whether he should actually sit on our set for the interview. He said no a few times, before we sat down.

"The question is, why are they paying attention to this?" he asked. "In my opinion somebody out there doesn't want my voice to be heard and they want to attack me and damage me."

He talked of the 'Big Boys' being desperate to keep people like him from talking about the coming economic storm.

He admits there may be a book in the works, but one that focuses on traders whom he admires.

When I asked him if he was for real, he said he would not say things about the markets he did not truly believe. When I asked him if he is a member of the so-called "Yes-Men" who have faked TV interviews in the past, he would not say yes or no. "Let people believe what they want to," he said.

To my mind, he should have been touted up front as a guy who has strong opinions on the markets, but certainly not as a 'trader' or "investment adviser" in the classic sense. That does not make his view any more or less valid but, with that preamble, I don't think it would have gone viral.

But he did it on the Beeb, an organization so tightly controlled, they can report on a building collapsing before it even happens.

And get away with it.

Now, they are trying to get away from Rastani's truths. Far, far away.

So this is psy-ops? BBC knew he was a flake, put him on the telly just to discredit him and have the masses think that anyone talking doom-and-gloom must have either (i) a hidden agenda, or (ii) be nuttier than Dr. Ron Paul? That's some kind of plan!

With that said I agree with him and I have been waiting years for the house of cards to collapse.  I hopw the GDP number tomorrow doesn't incite the crash because I haven't gotten short again since I covered last Thursday.

I compare him to car mechanic.

If my car breaks, it gives an opportunity to make money to someone repairing it.

Is it immoral for him to make money because of my demise? No.

Is he happy if my car breaks? As human probably not, but as car mechanic surely is.

The same counts for Alessio and ZH goldbugs.

Sentence for the new day: for a pessimist, future may only fulfill his expectations, or surprise him positively. Optimists have much harder live.

Greek official: Ability to pay new taxes exhausted

Greece has "exhausted" its ability to pay more taxes to cover budget gaps, the deputy prime minister declared Wednesday, saying he himself can't pay a new emergency tax without selling property.

Parliament approved a new emergency property tax Tuesday to be added to electricity bills later this year, as Greece remains under strong international pressure to abide by its painful deficit-cutting targets. Greece will go bankrupt by mid-October if it does not get an expected euro8 billion ($11 billion) loan.

"I believe that the tax limits of Greek society have been exhausted. I would say they have been exhausted for some time," Pangalos told private Mega television

It's pretty funny to see all the outrage among my friends and acquaintances on Facebook over this guy who thinks almost the same as I do. Just goes to show that the masses are still a long way from having any clue what we are talking about. They think we want to profit from their suffering. They don't believe depression is even a possibility, and if they did, they would be all for whatever megabailout plan Obama would come up with. Okay there's one Ron Pauler, out of a hundred.

Roubini connected with the mass consciousness for about a month back in 2008. But they quickly went back to their narcotized state: the stock market was the opium of Reganomics.

But now, 3 years on, things are very different. People can't deny away their pain and anxiety anymore, and there's now a critical mass of frustration adn anger. It's not a joke this time and people are not so dumb that they don't realize that this time IS different: we're not going to have a cyclical recovery/expansion that normally follows a deep recession. That is a deal breaker

But as you said,  he doubled back to the fold, and I stopped reading him.

I got the standard fob off reply thanking me for comments and that they would be considered in due process etc...(I still have copies)..
Every so often I dare to believe they might be doing something .. Specially when we started seriously poking Mr Murdoch in the eye.. ie the elite are not beyond the law and a close partner indeed of the banking elite was Mr Murdoch.

This airtime for Mr Allessio also made me think some one with a heart want's to let Joe Public know what's going down..

He is the BBC's Rick Santelli. Obvioiusly what he said resonated. It must have hurt when he kicked the squids in the nuts. There is no evidence he is wrong about an economic shit storm coming, on the contrary. Even Benanke said that things are difficult to control and Geithner said there would be no downgrade for the USA.

If Restani is just another nobody, and even he gets it, what does that say about the tiny brained CNN and CNBC? Clue: it says they are the ecnomic reality cloaking devices.

Maybe CNN should interview celebrity retard Ashton Kutcher and ask him why he is also preparing for economic Armageddon. Even the mentally challenged get it, so why can't CNN?

There is something about this fella I really like.  I believe strongly in my perception of people and this fella is for real.  Compare this fella to someone like Bill Clinton.  After the first sentence out of Bill Clinton's mouth I knew he as phony as a three dollars bill (no pun intended).  This fella is refreshing and honest so we won't be seeing much more of him on the worldwide establishment media, but I think he will turn up again sometime, again in a very favorable light.

So, he is bait, without a doubt.

it will seem as confirmation, especially to gold bugs and permabears [zeroes...or zeroids] when october brings the obligatory hallow's eve scare.  the world comes to and end, all retail trade bails the market and invests in CD's, and emergency food and batteries sell for a premium

perfect setup for the real GS et al to go way, way long the usa market.

To paraphrase our newest celebrity....

Banks will kidnap, rob and rape you repeatedly,  and will eventually dump you out of a moving car, far from home, naked, disoriented, hungry, and and begging for help.  After you recover, buy some bonds.

Purchase additional items now to prevent a repeat of above scenario.

You've been warned.

He did call 26.40 AG a few days before the smash. Hope he banked  that one

I don't think I have ever heard as lame an interview as this. I compare it with Larry King interviewing Dolly Parton. Two dumb worlds colliding.

This guy still keeps proving he is an asshole.

CNN has proven that it now has someone dumber than Wolfe Blitzer. Ted, can you use an old chit and send this along to the CNN management for cripes sake !!

I can't wait to read the book, "How a Loser Day Trader Proved He Was An Asshole Too". Forword by Tonya Harding.

Next...

It's the opposte that is true. But drum up the Euro's problems and the USD will be the last man standing.

What's with the suggestion that CNN represents 'Primetime' TV but the BBC doesn't?

Give me a BBC interview anytime over CNN.

If all it takes to get famous is to make clever surly trader comments with a bearish bias, Tyler should have gone on TV a long time ago.
