All The Olympic Charts That's Fit To Print, And More

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: a perfectly-timed release by S&P: S&P AFFIRMS UNITED KINGDOM 'AAA/A-1+' RATINGS; OUTLOOK STABLE.

As a reminder...

In honor of today's commencement of the Olympics here are some entertaining charts that for once have nothing to do with an insolvent Europe or America, China's RAND() function, or much hated, non-magic based math, and instead have everything to do with the Olympics, and sport in general.

Olympics: a blessing or a curse?

Bet on the bookies:

A motley selection:

Who Goldman expects to win the most medals (hint: Goldman has bought CDS on them)

And finally, EURO2012 may be over, but here are some charts for the football fans:

Yeah, a real humorous day!!

On another note, as we all know Super Mario is willing to hand out money that they do not have to give, Greece is wanting to give the ECB a haircut to try a stay afloat. The ECB will have to take a $70 to $100 Billion Euro haircut for the Greeks to remain in the Eurozone.

This means the ECB will be out of Billions of Euro's that they didn't have to begin with. Mario better open up more Monopoly game boxes to try and fund his (DREAM SEQUENCE).

The IOC collects billions from television contracts — the BBC just signed on for $1 billion for the British TV rights for the next four Games; NBC bought U.S. Olympic TV rights for 2010 and 2012 for $2.2 billion. For the 2008 Beijing Games, the IOC pulled in a reported $436 million just from sponsors.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765591797/IOC-earns-a-perfect-10-for-...

The IOC makes mad money off this shit . . . on everybody else's dime.  Who is the IOC . . . and whose pockets does the money they "make" go into?

Just curious.

Thank you, sir.

The IOC distributes over 90% of its revenues to organisations throughout the Olympic Movement to support the staging of the Olympic Games and to promote the worldwide development of sport. The IOC retains less than 10% of its revenue for the operational and administrative costs of governing the Olympic Movement.

Good ole operational and administrative costs.

I'm no fan of the Olympic Games outside of a curiosity...but I would suspect any domestic governemnt program (defense to entitlement overhead) retains higher than ten percent, if thats what you are fishin for.

But of course, without an actual budget outline to look at (continuing budget resolutions and printing ad fintium), its knida hard to tell for sure for the taxpayer.

So, I think a general tax strike is in order.

Update: Egan-Jones has already downgraded Germany to A- level. If the country were not a euromember, it would have kept its AAA. In fact, Germany can only lose in whichever "solution" of the eurocrisis:
* If Germany returns to the D-mark (please do!! in silver!!), that currency will rise heavily.
* If one or more of the PIIGS leave the euro and Germany stays in, the euro will rise, the new currencies will devalue and Germany will lose lots of money.
* If the eurozone stays intact, the euro will head lower and the richer countries including Germany will "have to" continue paying for the bankrupt members and their own banks.

I feel very sorry for the Germans.

I haven't paid much attention to the Olympics, but from what I've been reading here and there, it seams that the games are secondary to what they think it can do for the economy if they just push it hard enough.  The money spent on this pomp is incredible - a stimulus in and of itself.  I mention this only because it also seams to me that when you try this hard, it just isn't that much fun for anyone anymore.  The missiles and regular army soldiers don't help either.

The grandiosity that is the Olympics fits perfectly in the age-old puzzle that will never be solved.

Grandiosity is a symptom of an illness of the personality,

the same illness that keeps the world in a perpetual state of turmoil,

yet provides diversions and distractions for the masses unprepared and unwilling to deal with the very truth that makes them miserable.

Sasquatch would have made a hell of an East German weightlifter.

Bread and circuses for the masses - Londinium.

Anyone familiar with Britain's current state in finance, economics and seething social tension knows that the Games are a diversion from Britain's terrible reality. The political class and banksters Party on. There will be more fireworks on the streets after this Olympic spectacle ends, and costs Britain more than it gave...for its brief glittering moment. Circus for the masses. No bread, as time will tell, soon. The whole thing is a mockery of the common person. The politicos, corporatists run off with the kudos and money. The ordinary person will be left with tarnished medals, and the bill.

Total waste of money that could be better spent on depleted uranium rounds to bring freedom and democracy to the world.

A real show is a few 2000 lb. bunker busters popping off 1...2...3...

Fuck sportmanship...Let's blow shit up!

A little broken window foreign policy with some Krugmanesque Magical Money Multiplier Effect will have the economy right as rain in no time.

Yes We Can.

Britain was the best choice to upstage the Stalinesque Olympics in Beijing !      A little freedom, some genuine joy of a freer people, a little class, a little understatement, a little tradition .... the Queen was a nice touch !               Monedas         1929           Comedy Jihad:   China, you've still got a long way to go .... especially in the humour department !

Downgrades don't really even matter.  The US borrowing cost is now the lowest ever.  I won't trust any rating agency with a penny.  They were the ones who caused the who big problem in the first place.  Screw them.

Bass-san you will be waiting a very long time.  In the mean time I think I'll play Bass-san's game with Triple A rated UK:
