America: A Government Out Of Control

Tyler Durden's picture

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have"

Thomas Jefferson

Something odd and not quite as planned happened as America grew from its "City on a Hill" origins, on its way to becoming the world's superpower: government grew. A lot. In fact, the government, which by definition does not create any wealth but merely reallocates it based on the whims of a select few, has transformed from a virtually invisible bystander in the economy, to the largest single employer, and a spending behemoth whose annual cash needs alone are nearly $4 trillion a year, and where tax revenues no longer cover even half the outflows. One can debate why this happened until one is blue in the face: the allures of encroaching central planning, the law of large numbers, and the corollary of corruption, inefficiency and greed, cheap credit, the transition to a welfare nanny state as America's population grew older, sicker and lazier, you name it. The reality is that the reasons for government's growth do not matter as much as realizing where we are, and deciding what has to be done: will America's central planners be afforded ever more power to decide the fates of not only America's population, but that of the world, or will the people reclaim the ideals that the founders of this once great country had when they set off on an experiment, which is now failing with every passing year?

As the following video created by New America Now, using content by Brandon Smith whose work has been featured extensively on the pages of Zero Hedge, notes, "we tend to view government as an inevitability of life, but the fact is government is not a force of nature. It is an imperfect creation of man and it can be dismantled by man just as easily as it can be established." Unfortunately, the realization that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and absolute central planning leads to epic catastrophes without fail, seems a long way away: most seem content with their lot in life, with lies that their welfare money is safe, even as the future is plundered with greater fury and aggression every passing year, until one day the ability to transfer wealth (benefiting primarily the uber rich, to the detriment of the middle class which is pillaged on an hourly basis), from the future to the present is gone, manifesting in either a failed bond auction or hyperinflation. The timing or shape of the transition itself is irrelevant, what is certain is that America is now on collision course with certain collapse unless something changes. And one of the things that has to change for hope in the great American dream to be restored, is the role, composition and motivations of government, all of which have mutated to far beyond what anyone envisioned back in 1776. Because America is now saddled with a Government Out Of Control.

Watch the two clips below to understand just how and why we have gotten to where we are. Also watch it to, as rhetorically asked by the narrator, prompt us to question whether the government we now have is still useful to us and what kind of powers it should be allowed to wield.

whole lotta folks know, in their hearts, we are headed for hell.

what to do about it?  Not a g-damn thing.

For sure there is no sense in starting a revolution, just look what happened in France after the 1790s,

or Russia after the first world war.

No sense in looking for different, new, charismatic leaders with new ideas, either,

just look at what happened in Germany after Weimar began to collapse.

Just let it fall, all by itself, just as it is doing, so much like the Tower of Babel ...

the funniest thing is that rich people have the most difficulties with adversity

and the least skills at changing themselves, creating new uses for old tools, getting along with their neighbors and working together,  and so forth ... they are really the most stupid and unfortunate beings on earth ......

No, man. You're not getting it. These troubles were done to us, they are not "our character flaws." We didn't get into a totalitarian regome because we had thoughts or feelings. It was done to us, on purpose, by evil people.

We had things done to us. By evil people. Sure. But, since many of us have been brainwashed by agents of these very same people that we go to a "better place" when we're dead, what happens here on Earth takes a back seat.

Religion. Marx was close. It isn't the opiate of the masses. It's the hemlock of the masses.

in english, when you describe yourself as a member of a religion it means you belong to that religion so are religious. if you describe yourself without that adjective it leaves the religion box unchecked. so,

descibing yourself as a jew while railing against religion fails the sequitor test rendering your entire rant as a non sequitor, therefore, meaningless.

your retort solidifies your status as an idiot since you have confirmed your thought process as normally illogical.

so some of us know all of this is happening. unfortunately the vast majority of people have very little clue about what is happening and what is being done to them. another large group of people have an inkling but define it as a me vs. you, right vs left, republican vs democrat cage match. the rest are idiots engaged in the mud wrestling of gay marriage, religionutism, global warming, etc.

the only sure thing is that the foundation has been set  for a catastrophic event pitting the people of the usa against the .gov of the usa. .gov knows this(or is very afraid of it) judging by the various laws and executive orders whose intent are to give .gov the power to declare war on the people.

the only thing missing is a catalyst. would some american(s) please volunteer(thank you grace) to kick this off. ows did not work. someone has to incite violence. maybe hacking a shutdown of facebook or cable tv would work since americans aren't impressed by self immolation or assassination.

Decided to head east this weekend and check out Union Square, among other things.  OWS (and its sympathizers) are still there, and so is a relatively excessive show of force.  If you want to know what it feels like to live in a 'police state' go check out Union Square. It's palpable.

Go to Union Square (or any oposition venue) and feel (it) first hand and then form your own opinion.  Imagine any protest where unpopular 'public opinion' is up against 'the state.'  Vietnam protests come to mind... The NASDAQ has grown about 27% over the same period.

Let's boil down all the complexities into one idea. Think of all the people in government and related industries, whose livelihood depends upon

- the stock market NOT crashing

- gold and silver NOT becoming preeminent

That's a lot of pressure. Think of it. The FED manipulates every single financial market so the status quo goes on - it's an "open secret," so to speak.

What a fucking nightmare.

On of the things that bothers me is that they can confiscate your house, your food, your water, etc.  Many have been prepping for the potential of major problems in the US.  But, with the way the Law has been worded they can come and take all of the goods you stockpiled in preparation of a collapse.

The ridiculous growth also occurs at the local level.             My County is fairly large geographically, but not heavily populated.  A couple cities of about 10,000 people each, a sprinkling of villages with 200-800 residents each, and a bunch of farms & Martha Stewart Country Living rural homes.  The population count hasn't grown much over the past forty-something years.  Growing up, the Sheriff's Department split the county into sectors for patrolling.  One or two squad cars per sector, and the Deputies shared the cars for their shifts.  Each squad had a shotgun in the trunk, a police radio, and a spotlight.  The Deputies had service revolvers and big flashlights.  Somehow they kept crime from running rampant.        Today, the Sheriff's Department has five times as many Deputies.  Each Deputy has their own squad car that they take home with them so they're available at all times in case of a crisis.  The squad cars have police radios, CB radios, radar detectors, GPS systems, onboard computers, and a bunch of other gadgetry.  The interiors look like space shuttle cockpits.  The Deputies are armed with tazers, shotguns, fully automatic rifles, Glock pistols, and flash grenades.  Maybe other stuff I don't know about.  They wear Kevlar vests.          The Department has also accumulated a LOT of additional crime-fighting equipment.  They've got snowmobiles on trailers in case there's a big blizzard and they need to chase bad guys around on impassible roads. Also trailers full of 4-wheelers in case they need to pursue bad guys off-road. They've got several fully-equipped four-wheel-drive SUV's  to pull the snowmobiles & ATV's around on their trailers.  And two powerful speed boats in case terrorists infiltrate the local lakes & rivers and pursuit is called for.  Also a helicopter and pilot.  And two K9 special officers for hunting down Osama Bin Laden in that manner.  Plus a million-dollar communication center housed in the new multi-million dollar County Jail building.  And a hostage negotiating team.  And a HazMat unit with a special $100,000 truck full of gear, in case Sadam Hussein attacks our cornfields with chemical or biological weapons.  A full-time School Liaison Deputy.  There's more, but you get the picture.          Response time is great!  If the Sheriff's Department gets a 911 call about suspected kids riding minibikes in the road in sector four-niner-foxtrot, they arrive with two squads and secure the area within ten minutes.  They nab mandatory seatbelt scofflaws left and right.  Dogs At Large don't remain at large very long, believe me.           I feel safer!   PS - I tried to format this with decent breaks and spacing, but the ZeroHedge posting editor is messed up this afternoon.  Makes my post look like shit!

I didn't post anything on purpose to see the reaction of human's imagination.

I see that everybody here is afraid and feeling that something bad is happening and something much worse is going to happen.

Having lived in such a system before, I can tell you it's far, far, far worse than you could imagine.

If only, iiiiiiiiiif only americans were allowed to visit Cuba........... (I'm not cuban).

However, for people seeking slavery, which is voluntary exchange of personal freedom for the safey of a piece of meal every day, it's a paradise.

And if US Gov will end up going out control, it will be because the number of americans seeking slavery will outnumber the number of americans seeking freedom which in the current system of majority rule, leads to "DEMOCRATICALLY VOTED SLAVERY".

Western Europe is in that exact condition right now. If that's exactly what americans want, so be it. Free will is free will but I'm not joining the misery, since that's what it is, sharing of misery.

I'd like to post one of my favorite quotes:

I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.

Most males under the age of 45 in America have been screwed.  Not all, but most.

The boomers control the corrupt government, banks, and corporations, and they all think they're going to live forever.  They may pretend to write a will, but they don't actually believe in inheritance.  Go ahead, try asking them about how much they have, what's in their name, who gets what.  See how far you get reminding them of their mortality.

The liberals and their ilk are constantly telling us how bad and evil we are if we can't work with gossipy females and incompetent blacks, even though we secretly know that we are keeping this whole show together.

They have managed to convince half of us into risking our life and limb in the Middle East to protect Israel and the banking and oil interests, and have done so by claiming that all of those Arabs out there are "terrorists" who are going to come over here and kill us all.

There's probably no good way out of this now.  We are neutered and controlled, like so many show dogs.  For those of us in the know, best to just sort of drop out and find someplace where you can get away from it all.

If I am not mistaken the government by the people has the authority to completely throw this government out.  We can also find place them in prison for a couple years if we want.  I guarantee you they will come out better people.

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.” Thomas Jefferson, Declaration of Independence, 1776

Sorry DC Thomas Jefferson is a much better man than you.

"It is an imperfect creation of man and it can be dismantled by man just as easily as it can be established....."

If anyone dares mentions dismantling this government, they are going to be considered a terrorist.  Thousands or tens of thousands will die before TPTB give the power up.

The video is high on dramatiics and the government in reality "has no control" is what is occurring.  We have this element of Congress that is so digitally illiterate that feels once they make a law that is not digital today, that it will survive businesses who are digitally advanced in running business intelligence algorithms that model and work around certain provisions.

I would like to see Big Data used if nothing else just for querying in Congress, so everyone has the same starting point and they don't do that and all come up with their own source of numbers.  Speaking of numbers, they don't lie, but people do.

The data sellers are the ones in control here sadly.

    Fake Jefferson Quote

The e-mail signs off with a quote that supposedly comes from Thomas Jefferson: "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have." But Jefferson never said that.

According to Monticello researchers and Jefferson scholars who maintain the online Jefferson Encyclopedia: "We have never found such a statement in Jefferson’s writings. As far as we know, this statement actually originates with [Republican President] Gerald R. Ford, who said, "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have," in an address to a joint session of Congress on August 12, 1974."'

"The government, or at least root elements of it, see the American people as the enemy, and why not?  We are, in the end, the only force on the planet in a position to deconstruct the machine, so it only follows that we find ourselves locked in its crosshairs."

US citizen governments are only out of control when they are perceived to assault US citizens thought to be dynasty long entitlments.

For others, where are the differences?

The US of A government, while preaching property rights, stole that much land from the Indians. How is it not out of control?

Once again, it is all situational. As long as the government does not touch me, well, it is under control.

    US world order.

It's out of control because it's owned by the Sabbattean ( cult of the all-seeing-eye) Jew Rockefellers, whose name was Ruggenfeld in the Germany where they migrated from. And just look here to see what their financial house, JPMorgue, is doing now - in cooperation with Marc Rich, the Israeli operative pardoned by Clinton, and Bruno Iksil:

-- There is no avoiding these issues now. There is no running away or room for rationalization. There are but two choices. The only way to avoid massive bloodshed in the United States is to ensure that Ron Paul is elected. He will be our agent for the return of stolen rights. The second is to do nothing or attempt half-hearted measures that will accomplish... absolutely nothing. More than a year ago I wrote here at Collapsenet that if Ron Paul is not elected this year, there will be a bloody and violent revolution. That is the absolute truth. Even with a Ron Paul victory there will be many difficult challenges but he has consistently taken a position that without our liberties nothing else matters. Let those who fear freedom run from this site. Let those who fear pain and suffering and loss go hide in emotional, spiritual and psychological caves where they will assuredly be found and eaten.

Let those who shrink from this realization know that they have abandoned the status of human, opting instead to be the disposable, proprietary livestock which they are. -- Michael C. Ruppert
