Concealed carry for the masses in NYC... you've obviously never been here or are incredibly fuckin' stupid ("law biting..." definitely stupid).

Most people here already live life with a "hair trigger" mentality. Concealed carry? It would be the wild west times a 1000.

And what happens when the first shot is fired? In a large crowd like NYC most of the armed crowd ready to "save the day" would have NO idea who fired first. What happens next when an armed crowd (all out for themselves) sees strangers wielding weapons all around them? I'll tell you retard... everyone would start shooting at everyone else.

You and everyone that agreed with you are fucking imbeciles that watch FAR too much television.

Ps. I'm pro gun for all you retards out there, so go fuck yourselves.

"I'm pro gun"  Please state why.  Thanks!

Seems that you might have some cognitive dissonance going on here, it's kind of like saying that you believe in being an atheist in the country but not in the city.

OK, here's one for you...  I'm currently having a dilemma over how to fence goats.  I really like them and have a need for them.  BUT, fencing them is a nightmare: there's a joke(?) that one needs a fence that's capable of containing water.  Some people say that you CAN contain them using electric fencing (all but bucks that is, which I would not want).  Apparently, many people have success with training their goats to the fence (I'm aware that this works for cattle and pigs).  What's the training involve?  Getting them to ZAP themselves on the fence.  The PAIN registers and most will then associate the fence with that pain: some goats, however, learn that they can time themselves to the pulses (fuckers are escape artists!).  My point?  There will always be an initial shock, after which things settle down/stabilize.  Yeah, there MIGHT be shootouts, but once the quick-draws are ZAPPED then most will realize that it's not a good idea to try it.

Anti-gun folks tend to point at environments with seemingly stable govts.  I suggest that people always assess risk, and that in this case it would be: what risk is there IF the govt goes unstable?  We've seen what can happen in such a case, one need only talk to a survivor of Nazi rule: those who resisted had a higher rate of survival than those who did not; I'm thinking that the resistors had a more ready access to lethal weapons, and the thought of using them, than those who didn't resist.

But... cities, BIG cities ARE fucked.  Remember: BIG = FAIL!  There's going to be a LOT of deaths coming, and there's little that we can do about it (other than set the mindset for how we'll go forward after we pick ourselves back up).  I suspect that most will come via BIG policies (refer, again, to Nazi Germany) rather than from individuals.

could you identify the particular location of the shootings and not the state?  EACH LOCATION HAS ITS OWN CARRY LAWS, e.g. the aurora theater, columbine school, etc.  Essentially, it is illegal to carry firearms in particular places...  e.g. inside school buildings.  It is also illegal to carry in private places that have followed the law regarding notice to persons who carry concealed...  it isn't merely a "it's a private establishment and I can kick out whoever I want if I see them packing" issue...  it's expressly against the law also...

failure to abide by the law would likely result in confiscation of your right to carry concealed...  among other penalties...

They passed laws against DIRECT killing of people. However, if you are a large agribusiness or pharmaceutical or tobacco company- you can kill indiscriminitely through the use of drugs, chemical food additives or paid science that requires proof to eliminate your product, but no proof it doesn't harm.

We kill thousands everyday through corporate actions, through military- industrial profit seeking, through state violence, but that is fine and dandy. Those deaths cannot be laid at someone's front door or they feed patriotism's lies.

Can we just start paying attention to the gross crimes of wall street, government and corporations? For such a minority of economic and political capital, we pay a huge cost to support these criminal enterprises.

99.99% of the time, firearms are simply defensive protection.

Ask any cop.   Most have never needed to fire their weapon while on duty.

But cops are smarter, more capable and have superior judgement than you or I.

To recap, a year ago, the shooter was fired by the victim. Most likely the shooter was still unemployed and still pissed off. He knows he can't get into the Empire State Building with a gun, so he stalks the former boss at a building exit.

Maybe he got lucky today, maybe it took a few days to catch up with the former boss in such a crowd. But however long it took, he managed to shoot the ex-boss in the head today.

At this point he has to get away on foot, since he's on the sidewalk. The sound of the shot(s) alerts both the crowd and the ever present NYPD. The police nearby see the guy fleeing and fire off 14 rounds at a man on one of the most crowded sidewalks in NYC. They kill the shooter and wound 6 other people.

And the word "heroic" is already being used to describe the police actions.

What's heroic is that the police stopped their gunplay after hitting only 6 people other than the shooter.

While these two idiots (Bloomberg/Obama) subjugate your liberty and freedoms you can willingly praise, bow down and lick their stinkn' toes, at that point, maybe, you'll hear that pop, having a moment of clarity, realizing that your head has come out of your ass recognizing what you've done to yourself.

Where the fuck were you types when the Patriot Act/Dept. of Homeland Security/TSA bullshit was sailing thru Congress and Bush II and after which 'subjugating my liberties.' I didn't see a whole lot of the concern then that I see now. But imo that was equally as bad as what's happening now. And dickhead Obama after implying otherwise approved of the continuation of all the above.

I'm not sayn' Repubs are the perfect freedom and liberty fighters, however when it gets to a level where both Bloomberg and Obama have the imaginary idea that their, so called, sophisticated and elite minds are God's gift to humanity while destroying one's ability to make a living or forcing the populace to minimize their sugar drink volume, then one knows all bets are off and things gotta change.

By the way, witnesses say the gunman was holding a 32oz Big Gulp while on his rampage...hm....

Some of us here are still trying to live the 'american dream'. We tolerate the intolerable at times and put up with administration, hi costs of living and general stupidity of the individual. We raise families, work an HONEST days work and do good for the general society that we choose to live in. Whether someone agrees to it or not, we truly don't give two fucks and we've earned that right.

But what really yanks at New Yorkers are the assholes from the bleacher section spewing their hatred towards NYC, due to either a loser mentality (they couldn't do it or have the balls to leave Flyoverlandia, USA), core hatred or jealousy.

The classic arrogance and haughty insularity of the typical New Yorker comes through in this asshole's post in spades.  If this guy wanted to elicit any sympathy, he only managed to dig his "New York Citiers = Pricks" hole that much deeper.

I've got news for you, asshole Oaf --- your congested, completely removed-from-nature concrete jungle represents nothing to me but my idea of Hell on earth, and there is NO incentive that ANYONE could possibly provide that could entice me to live in the crowded, impersonal, socially atomized rat-infested anthill of (in)humanity that you call home, just as you would probably be loathe to live in the poorer sections of Hong Kong or Mumbai --- or in your much-despised and flippantly dismissed "Flyoverlandia".  It has NOTHING to do with jealousy, but you may be correct that I "could not cut it" in NYC --- because I would be so miserable my existence there would surely end in suicide.

Nice way to shoot yourself in the foot, fool.  Oh wait, that's right --- your ragingly statist city government will not let you even own a gun!

God, I hate New Yorkers (referring to the city, of course, not the state).

Bloomberg's position on guns is the right one especially for NYC - i wouldnt live anywhere else for a lot of reasons  - the restrictions on guns in NYC being just one - people who are insecure need validation and an extension of their limited manhood - i have lived in nyc and elsewhere for 60 + years during difficult periods in NYC history and never needed a gun for protection - either you have street smarts to avoid trouble or you dont - there are people who get mugged repeatedly for a reason

gun owners need bigger dicks and they would be fine without the firearms!

You commenters upset about NYC gun laws really just have to ask one question:  would there be more gun murders in NYC if the gun laws were less restrictive?  I don't know the answer to that question and you probably don't either.

Of course, it's easy to buy a gun in a less restrictive environment and drive to another state.  And incidents like this will happen from time to time.

Finally, the Second Amendment as interpreted by the SCOTUS doesn't prevent a government unit from regulating the registration process.  I know many of you think a gun should be easier to acquire than a driver's license.

Who's upset?  Apparently New York's gun laws are working fine, what with all the not-murdering-with-guns going on, right?  Look at Aurora, Colorado.  City banned concealed carry, theater didn't allow weapons.  All these gun control laws are flat-out brilliant.

Look at Chicago, its as a bad as the 30's, all the blue sates with strict gun control laws are the worst in crime stats with weapons.

Yeah, and more chances to be a victim, Gulley, check out DC,Chi Town, etc, etc...................v.s. big cities like Dallas, and Houston, etc.

The crime stats are always skewed anyway, I don't think deaths from gang fights, and drug dealers, should even be counted.

They are a world unto their own.Texas has a few million folks, and its a lot more polite state than most.

You cannot afford to run around and try to be top stud, you get your ass kicked or shot if you get dangerous.

An armed society is a polite society. When you carry, you must be cooler headed than if you were not

Actions have life changing consequences. Haven't has as much as a traffic ticket in 40+yrs, so reactionary in what sense?.

You leave me alone, I leave you alone............life the way it should be. Be at peace with all men as far as it depends on you.

Because the maximum sentence for ANY crime in Norway is 21 years, and everyone may apply for parole after 10, it's boilerplate. There are also additional laws that allow the authorities to extend the sentence past 21 years if the offender is determined to be a danger to society.

It happens every year at this time.....and right after the uptick in murders in Chicago.

The drug runners are cleaning house right now.  If you haven't made your payments, can't account for your product, etc, they are going to eliminate you.

Once they finish at home, they pay visits to their "outreach" markets, of which the west end of my hometown is one.

Yes, perspective. What's wrong in the heart of america is much deeper than crooked-politics for banksters and a police state backed cronyism.

The entire fabric of the country is in tatters, the connective tissue is rotting away daily. Those that were once considered loyal clear-thinking forthright protectors and social anchors, are now seen and known to be mortal enemies, that you dare not trust for any reason.

19 shot in one day in one city equates to >6900 shot in one year, in one city.

"Eeerily, just minutes before the mayhem, Mayor Bloomberg was warning about the dangers of “too many guns on the streets” on his weekly radio show.

“The argument guns don’t kill people, people kill people is one of the most disingenuous things you can say,” he said shortrly before 9 a.m. while discussing tougher guns laws being proposed in Albany.

“It does take a person to pull the trigger, but if they didn’t have the gun... We are the only developed country in the world with this problem.”

So Bloomberg is channeling his inner Walter Winchell? Tomorrow's news today, Big Mike on the mike, fighting for Truth, Justice, and the American Way?  I like him on one level, a self-made man with a pretty good journalistic organization, but his crusade to make the rest of the country dance to his tune is NOT my speed.

On a bigger level-- there does seem to be a hell of a lot of paranoia in NY these days referred to on ZH and elsewhere. A buddy of mine down there used to love it, now he can't wait to get out.  Too many people, too many buildings, is that whole Pelham 1-2-3/Taxi Driver vibe back??
