Art Cashin's Seasons Greetings
As the year grinds to a close, we bring you the most poetic ending possible. That of the veteran trader artiste-cum-fermentation committee chairman himself...
‘Tis three days before Christmas
and at each brokerage house
The only thing stirring
was the click of a mouse
Down on the Exchange
the tape inches along
Brokers bargained and traded
as they hummed an old song
The Fed struggled and struggled
but few jobs did we see
Despite lots of projections
there was no QE3
The space shuttle ended
and Borders shut down
Alec Baldwin, with an iPhone
behaved like a clown
Prince William took Kate
to be his fair bride
And Lohan took a necklace
she then couldn’t hide
Kim Kardashian married
(it lasted ten weeks)
And in this year’s hot movie
we hear - nobody speaks
We had hacking and fracking
Angry Birds filled our screens
And vampires did love scenes
who knows what that means
Spider Man finally opened
Harry Potter matured
Hurricanes brought great flooding
but we somehow endured
There was Sheen, there was Weiner
they brought little to cheer
But it’s Christmastime, Alice
and Santa is near
So stop looking backwards
have a cup of good cheer
And kiss you a loved one
raise your hopes for next year
And amidst all the trading
Christmas themes we will heed
And share our good fortune
with families in need
And tomorrow they’ll pause
as we wait on the bell
To sing a tradition
a song for old “Nell”
Don’t let this year’s problems
impede Christmas Cheer
Resolve to be happy
throughout the New Year
And resist ye Grinch feelings
let joy never stop
Put the bad at the bottom
keep the good on the top
So count up your blessings
along with you worth
You’re still living here
in the best place on earth
And think ye of wonders
that light children's eyes
And hope Santa will bring you
that Christmas surprise
So play ye a carol
by Mario Lanza
Unless you are waiting
to celebrate Kwanzaa
Hanukkah’s just beginning
But Ramadan’s gone
Different folks, different holidays
yet each spirit lives on
Whatever your feast is
we hope you all still
Find yourself just surrounded
by folks of goodwill
Friday, as the bell rings
hark to your heart’s call
And as Santa would shout
Merry Christmas to All!

lovely :)
Though amid the religious diversity, Art Cashin missed mentioning the Winter Solstice, for all the pagans and Stonehenge Druids and so forth, and really all us believers in God and the divine who see the handiwork of God most directly in Nature.
And given the world might end at the next Solstice, Mayan-Calendar-style, good to mention it at the moment.
For those who love cats and especially those who have a tabby striped-type cat, a story of Jesus and Mary:
It is said that baby Jesus was cold in the stable, even with Mary holding him. A tabby cat came in, and put himself next to Jesus, lending his body warmth to the very special Child, keeping him warm through the night.
In the morning, Mary was very grateful. To honour cats till the end of time, Mary took her finger and gently drew her initial in the Latin language, 'M', on the cat's fur above his eyes.
And that is why, to this very day, when you see a tabby cat with striped-patterned fur, you can usually distinguish the 'M' pattern on the cat's forehead.
If you died with your pet cat in the house, it would eat you, down to the bone given enough time. A dog would lay down and die with you...

A Class act.
Politically correct holiday sentiment seems to have left out the infant that started it all. Oh well, what else would one expect from an abortion dominated society with no future.
I had unprotected sex with a hooker last week and gave her a gift card to the local abortion clinic. They are having a sale on the 25th.
You should have been at thye head of the line.
Maybe Santa will leave a discount coupon to your local AIDS/HIV clinic in your stocking.
well stated brother.
>> left out the infant that started it all.
Started it all? Heh, get in line, newbie. As superstitions go, the Jesus/Christmas thing is fairly new.
You live in a fantasy land that rivals the Federal Reserve's balance sheet. But, the word infant is a powerful word as well as what the word represents and judging by your reaction, it is more powerful than you would like to admit. But what you admit and condone is of no consequence for those that live in the real world. You must respect the ghost of Christmas past as he shows you the misery of your Christmas present and the death that awaits you in the not too distant Chirstmas future. But change your ways and you will know what real joy/life is.
Thank God for "superstitions"
Thank Saint Obama for all the supplicants at the altar of American Liberalfascism.
And Merry Christmas to you, you filthy animal!
Easy Francis
Hey, don't touch his stuff.
Consumermas. Don't be passing down life lessons here from your cloud of judgement.
Happy Holidaze Art!
He forgot to mention/remember the Fallout 3 style wasteland that used to be called Japan... just like the rest of mainstream media and the world lol
Some things are too scary to remember, so we conveniently forget.
Kim Kardashian...Kim Kardashian?
I don't seem to remember the name.
Maybe the face would ring a bell.
And the paper-shuffling didn't end with a bang, but with a whimper...
...and to all: a good fight!
Hey, Tyler,
I penned a parody to "Twas The Night Before Christmas" with a Ben Bernanke theme - "Because Every Day is Christmas; Many Visits from Saint Print."
It is too long to post in the comments. How do I get it to you?
Merry kiss my ass and happy screw you.

Art Cashin is brillant. I wish someone would compile all his morning notes and poems, etc, and publish them.
I just wish he hadn't been so negative 10% off the 2008 bottom (SPX 800). That was just wrong.
dupe.
So, he should have been more honest, consistent and said Xmas. But, what am I thinking, honesty and CNBC...LOL
Art's call of the 3/09 rally made me a fan forever. Merry Christmas
One thing about the Chinese - they're open about their aims of world domination and totalitarianism and quashing freedom of speech or democracy.
Same with propping up the stock market:

No amount of manipulation can defy reality. Eventually reality is going to catch up with the chinese, and then they will also have an economic collapse.
Jesus Christ Art!
Jesus Christ...
Just what it this fermentation committee? :s
